"Preparing for installation" or "Preparing to move to disk" problem

Hi there,
I'm trying to install Wacom Intuos4 Pen Tablet driver from a .pkg but nothing happens. Stucked at "Preparing for installation" screen. Tried to move the .pkg file to MachintoshHD but stucked again at "Preparing to move to disk" stage. I have a late 2012 iMac with OS X Yosemite. Can you please help me? ^^

I booted the computer from the installation disk and reinstalled, but this time after restart, I get stuck at the blue launchd screen when starting up from the startup disk... I accessed disk utility form the installation disk but it found no problems with the disk...
A safe boot will eventually open the login screen in safe mode although it takes about 5 minutes at the BootX booting screen and login drags pretty bad. After login, I'm stuck with only the standard os x background. To be clear, I've waited around a half hour at least once at each point startup has been stopping.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Reinstalling freezes during "Preparing for Installation..."

    Hi,
I'm using an Apple MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard).
I have installed Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium and Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium.
As written in my other post (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650516?tstart=0), I am unable to find a solution to reinstall my Adobe printer driver.
That's why I thought I might be able to just reinstall Acrobat 9 Pro completely.
However, when trying this, the installation freezes during the "Preparing for Installation..." screen.
I also tried installing in Safe Mode but without success.
I found some posts regarding this but mostly the solution is to uninstall CS4 completely and to reinstall it again from scratch. But of course I would like to fix the problem without the need to reinstall everything.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Wolfgang

    Hi Larry,
    thanks for your message!
I found that out later as well, see http://forums.adobe.com/message/2857742#2857742 .
However, the problem I tried to describe in this post, is that I cannot reinstall Acrobat as it just freezes during the Installation.
Do you know any work-around for that?
    Thanks,
    Wolfgang

  • OS X Panther "Prepares for installation" but nothing happens afterwards.

    Hi,
Long story short, I tried updating my computer without checking My computer would actually allow it. Couldn't find my Panther discs so my brother leant me his 10.1 discs and it booted and the installation went fine but now I have the Panther discs i'm having a problem starting up.
It opens in the desktop and tells me to restart my computer, which i do... I hold down C and after a few minutes it shows the loading screen which says it's preparing for installation. Unfortunately that's all it does, the screen goes blue and I am left with the symbol which says it's doing something. I left it for a few hours and came back to find it was still doing the exact same thing as when I left it.
I've also tried starting using the option key and selecting the disc but it goes through the same procedure and doesn't progress.
I know the disc drive works because I checked by playing CDs DVDs (not to mention starting from the 10.1 disc)
It wouldn't be so bad but trying to find all the updates for 10.1.5 is a nuisance and it's strange going backwards from 10.3 to 10.1.
(It's an old grape coloured iMac but it has had memory added and as I stated had previously had panther running)
    Help!

    Leah:
The black ones say Version 10.3
That's great. I will give you step-by-step directions to reformat and erase the HDD, and then install Panther (10.3), then update Panther to 10.3.9. This process will destroy everything on your HDD, so if you don't have an up-do-date backup, post back and let me know. (Question: Do you have an external firewire HDD for backing up?) Otherwise you can just go ahead. It looks difficult because laying it out step-by-step makes it look long and complicated. However, I suggest you first read the procedure through a couple of times, then post back with any questions.
Formatting, Partitioning Zeroing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
    Select language
Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note: 1 partition is normally better for an internal HDD. External HDDs usually have more than one. See Dr. Smoke’s FAQ Backup and Recovery for tips on partitioning external HDD.)
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    Select Erase tab
Optional: (Select the sub-volume under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
Select on Security Options button (Tiger) Options button (Panther & earlier).
Select Zero all data. (This process will map out bad blocks on your HDD. However, it could take several hours. If you want a quicker method, don't go to Security Options and just click the Erase button.)
    Click OK.
    Click Erase button
    Quit Disk Utility.
Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Check box to install X11 (Tiger) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
    Proceed with installation.
After installation computer will restart for setup.
    After setup, reboot computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
    Click Repair Disk Permissions.
    Connect to Internet.
Download and install 10.3.9 Combo Update.
    Computer will restart after updates.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
    Click Repair Disk Permissions.
    Good luck.

  • Installer hangs at "preparing for installation"

I have a Mac Pro with OS X 10.8.4 installed.
If I want to use the installer to install software it just hangs at "Preparing for Installation"
This appears to be the case with any type of software install. Only way out is to Force Quit from Installer.
    Can any one help?

What happens if you try starting in Safe Mode and running the installer, does the problem still occur?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)

  • Preparing to Move?

Since upgrading to Yosemite I notice that I can't simply move an item(s) from one folder to another without getting a pop-up message saying "preparing to move..." It can be a group of images, text files, application files, or merely one item. The Finder doesn't seem to be able to keep pace with "moving" even when no other task is going on in the background. And this "preparing" takes up to a minute in some situations.
Is there something I can do to avoid this? I have 8G of Ram in my Mac Pro. Is gong to an SSD for my start up disk the only solution (assuming that step wold be a solution)?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Occasional "preparing to move" message in Finder

    Dear Hive-Mind,
Occasionally I get a 'preparing to move' message in the Finder (10.9.5 - clean install when I migrated to an SSD on my MacBookPro9.1). I am moving 3-4 small files (less than 1MB each) from one folder to another.
The Finder then takes several seconds to complete this operation and the fans kick in as if the processor is being overloaded. I don't have a lot of stuff going on in the background (Safari, Chrome, Calculator, Acrobat Reader). 8GB of Ram, Mid 2012, 2.6GHz i7 Quad Core, 1TB Samsung 850 EVO.
This happened prior to the SSD upgrade also.
    Thanks,
    Marco

So it appears that the problem is now solved.
BTW the initial info was incomplete, as I had plugins installed (fogot them as they have become part and parcel of the app!!). The only plugin that survived was Attachment Tamer.
So, I removed attachement tamer and relaunched mail. Tried moving messages around, which worked.
Out of curiosty, I quit mail.app and re-instated Attachement Tamer, relaunched Mail.app: I am still  able to move messages and have the plug in installed!
    Go figure

  • Mountain lion error message (fail to restart Mac mini for installation)

    Hi,
I successfully downloaded mountain lion and attempted to install it several times on my Mac mini; however, it gives an error message when it wants to restart computer for installation purposes. The error message reads "An error occured while preparing the installation. Try running the application again." Well, I did as instructed several times to no avail. Is there anybody to help me out. I will be grateful.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

Logic 9.0.2 is the last version that runs on a G5 - 9.1.x is Intel only.
If you have only 50 GB left on your system drive, you should consider it full. Get an external drive and move your music, movies and photo's to it, and delete them from your system drive to free up space.
The free space on the system drive is being used by the OS to offload RAM, rule of thumb is to keep at least 20 % of the drives' capacity free. When you have less and less free space, your Mac will eventually become very slow (many "beachballs").
I believe the current Logic Package has version 9.1 on it, be sure you have the correct (9.0) version...

What I don't understand is this:  I originally bought and installed Photoshop CS6 back in March 2013, and it worked fine.  Yesterday my hard drive had to be replaced and my computer person salvaged as much of what was on it as he could, but now I have to reinstall Photoshop.  1) Why did it work before and it's not working now?  2) Is there anything I can do that does not involve reformatting the hard drive?

It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.

    Hey iraravitz,
Could you please let me know what version of OS are working on.
You might receive this error when you attempt to install on a drive with the HFS+ Case Sensitive file system, which is not supported for installation of Adobe Creative Suite 6.
So, please try installing on a drive that has been formatted with a supported file system.
You might refer the KB doc link mentioned below for the same:

  • When I try to update to iOS5, iTunes gets stuck on "Backing Up" its been there for hours and it barely moves

When I try to update to iOS5, iTunes gets stuck on "Backing Up" its been there for hours and it barely moves. It finished backing up one then it went to a "Extracting Software" on the iTunes status bar up top and then it gave me an error saying something along the lines of "There was an error with the server" and back to square 1. Ive been trying since the morning and same problem. Always stuck on the backup, help?

You may have lost your connection to the apple server or connection with your itunes library.
    1) You will need to shutdown Itunes and disconnect your iphone from the USB cable.
    2) Reconnect your Iphone to the usb cable, wait for the device to be recognised and or drivers to be installed.
    3) once all ok, your itunes should automatically open up/connect (if you have this setting set on), otherwise double click your itunes icon on your desktop.
    4) once all sychronised and connected. go to Summary tab and UPDATE your iphone again.
Hope this works for you, as this happend to me and tried the above steps and wala!!! all good.
If the above still fails, restart your pc/apple and turn off/on your modem and then try again.
this normally happens if your connection from your device to the itunes hangs or looses its connection, or have a bad connection to the internet / apple server.
in windows the RPC Locator is normally the cause of this, in apple i have no idea (as im not an apply user).
    Give it a shot!
if this helps you and works ...why not rep/like my response up!
