Prev , next like in hotmail/yahoo

Hi
I have a list of items displayed with minimal pages on a JSP.
User clicks on one of these items to see more details .
In the details page they want to have a PREV and NEXT button so that they can navigate between items without going to the list of items.
What is the best way to do this?
I was thinking of storing all the items in a list and use the index number of the current item to bo back and forth as the user wanted/
Any other ideas
TIA

Yes I have that in place,
I have several reports in the application like this,
Everytime when the user gets a list it might have different searches and conditions applied to that.
So one user try to do navigation from 2 different screens there is a problem , I am keeping only one list in the session.
When the user creates an alternate browser session the first list I kept in the session will be overrirden, so If he tries to navigate in the first session , I wont be able to find the next element properly,
I think I made the issue clear
TIA

  • Implement paging (prev/next) for jtable data obtained from database

    Hello all, first time poster and relative newbie to java.
    I am trying to learn java and in the process have stumbled upon this issue.
    I have searched through the forum as well as googled my way around for answers. And though I am more informed than I was, I still am a little stumped.
    I would like to implement a table that pulls data from a database (mysql), limits the results, and include prev/next buttons to traverse through the records.
    I think this involves writing my own AbstractTableModel. And I have seen some examples as such. But could use a little more help.
    I will always be pulling 10 rows, but the columns will change depending on query I am using so implementing a more generic set of methods would be great.. To be specific...
    Table: users
    Columns: userid, ufname, ulname, utype, ustatus, etc....
    For selection purposes I only need to show: userid, ufname, ulname. So I figure I write a query like:
    select userid, ulname, ufname from users limit index, 10
    Where index tells the query where to start from then use the results to populate the jtable. I can do this statically but do not quite understand how to implement the next/prev buttons so that the table pulls the next or previous set of data.
    If this can happen without the need to repaint/refresh the frame that would be great.
    sudo code (with comments) would be ok, but a basic working example of this would be even better.
    thank you in advance, if more information is required please let me know.

  • Prev/Next Buttons

    I am using some paging code to add a previous and next
    buttons to my spry gallery. I am attempting (unsuccessfully) to
    hide the previous button at the beginning of the recordset and the
    next button at the end. I have pasted the code below if anyone has
    any ideas.
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var pageOffset =0;
    var pageSize = 5;
    var pageStop = pageOffset + pageSize;
    var dsGallery = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("images.xml",
    "/gallery/photos/photo", { filterFunc: MyPagingFunc });
    function MyPagingFunc(ds, row, rowNumber)
    if (rowNumber < pageOffset || rowNumber >= pageStop)
    return null;
    return row;
    function UpdatePage(offset)
    var numRows = dsGallery.getUnfilteredData().length;
    if (offset > (numRows - pageSize))
    offset = numRows - pageSize;
    if (offset < 0)
    offset = 0;
    pageOffset = offset;
    pageStop = offset + pageSize;
    // Re-apply our non-destructive filter on dsStates1:
    dsGallery.filter(MyPagingFunc);
    // Tell our 2nd region to update because we've adjusted
    // some of the variables it uses in its spry:if expressions.
    Spry.Data.updateRegion("list2");
    // Change the XPath for the 3rd data set so that the 3rd
    // region updates. Remember, position() starts at one and
    not
    // zero, so we have to add one to our pageOffset and
    pageStop.
    dsGallery.setXPath("/states/state[position() >=" +
    (pageOffset+0) + " and position() < " + (pageStop+1) + "]");
    -->
    </script>
    <input type="button" value="Prev"
    onClick="UpdatePage(pageOffset - pageSize);" />
    <input type="button" value="Next"
    onClick="UpdatePage(pageOffset + pageSize);" />

    why didn't you use Spry Paged View instead of writing your
    own code?
    then you can use
    if ({ds_PageNumber} == 1 ) {
    //disable prev button & enable next
    else if ({ds_PageNumber} == {ds_PageCount} ) {
    //disable next button & enable prev
    else{
    //enable both prev & next button
    you then just have to call this function, every time you do
    navigation or page load (using observer or anything else)

  • PREV - NEXT navigation in ViewStack & Tab Navigation container

    Hi,
    I am using a ViewStack container inside a Tab container. There are 2 tabs.
    In the first tab, I have 3 containers for ViewStack and in the
    Second tab, I have 2 containers.
    I am having a single PREV - NEXT (navigation) buttons for the navigation.On clicking the next (navigation) button, it should select the second viewstack container in the first tab [initially the first view stack container in first tab is selected]
    On clicking next again, it should select the next viewstack container & so on...
    Upon further clicking the next button, it should select the first Viewstack container of the second tab & so on...
    When I place the navigation buttons for the ViewStack container, we can get the ViewStack ID & the selectedIndex, so PREV - NEXT navigation functionality can be done.
    But my requirement is:
    On traversing through the NEXT button and on reaching the last screen of the ViewStack container, it is required to go to the next tab's first ViewStack container. It is basically a PREV - NEXT navigation through all tabs and on each ViewStack in a tab container with a single set of PREV - NEXT navigation buttons

    hi,
    I have put together a sample of navigating through multiple viewstacks, the only real need for this to work is that each viewstack is named after its parent navigators index i.e tabnavigator 0 has a viewstack with id of 'VS0' tbanavigator 1 has a viewstack with id of 'VS1' etc...

  • SetAttribute at calculated attribute at prev next binding

    I use JDev version 10.1.2.1.0 (Build 1913). I try to set attribute at calculated attribute.. that all row divide some page using prev next binding. The result was disorder. I think i must set attribute repeat every i click prev next button.. but i don't know where i must overwrite method form prev next binding.. or any other solution... please give me advice.. thank you

    Dimitar, thank you for your response.
    If I am trying to insert a new row (not update an existing one), I believe I need to create a Managed Property bomEditChild under the Managed Bean bomCRUD, and then set the binding of the af:InputText to +#{bomCRUD.bomEditChild}+ as seen below:
    <af:popup id="p1" ... >
    <af:dialog id="d2" dialogListener="#{DialogListenerCollection.editDialogListener}" title="BOM Edit">
    <af:inputText label="Child" id="it1" binding="#{BomCRUD.bomEditChild}"/>
    </af:popup>
    From adfc-config.xml
    <managed-bean id="__11">
    <managed-bean-name id="__9">BomCRUD</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class id="__12">erp.view.framework.BomCRUD</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope id="__10">request</managed-bean-scope>
    <managed-property id="__2">
    <property-name id="__3">bomEditChild</property-name>
    <property-class>oracle.adf.view.rich.component.rich.input.RichInputText</property-class>
    <value id="__1"></value>
    </managed-property>
    </managed-bean>
    However, when I print the value of the String Child variable of the createChildren class, I get the following:
    System.out.println("Child: " + Child); // output command gets me the text below
    +Child: RichInputText[UIXEditableFacesBeanImpl, id=it1]+
    The createChildren method is detailed below in the pages definition file and implemented in the AppModuleImpl class.
    <methodAction id="createChildren" ...>
    <NamedData NDName="Child" NDValue="#{BomCRUD.bomEditChild}" NDType="java.lang.String"/>
    </methodAction>
    It appears the value being passed into my createChildren class is the container ID, not the value entered into the container by the customer. The output is the same whether I declare bomEditChild as a Managed Property under the Managed Bean bomCRUD or not. I am still unsure how to grab the value of the inputted text and/or if the managed property is updating before the createChildren method is being called via the editDialogListener.
    Any further ideas?

  • Netui:repeater tags with ranges (aka prev/next)

    Is there some way to implement ranges using the <netui:data-repeater> tags? By
    ranges, I mean where you have 123 items in a list and you only display numbers
    1-50. Clicking NEXT would give you items 51-100. When you're there, clicking PREV
    would take you back to 1-50.
    Sample code would be nice. I think it could be done with the <netui:data-choiceMethod>
    tags, but what I am envisioning would be pretty ugly

    I am still stuck. I have the pager working fine. But, I have a checkbox that needs
    to be bound with the recordid. When the form is submitted after selecting records
    on multilple pages, I want to retrieve the recordids of records that were checked.
    How do I do that? A chckbox datasource can only be a one-value String property
    of a form. But, I need to save an array of ids that were checked. I am so lost.

    Here's an example of implementing a paged repeater.
    Briefly, here's how it works:
    The entire data set (a Product[]) is stored in the JPF. When paging
    through this data set, a
    sliding window (also stored as a Product[]) is used to contain the "current"
    set of products to
    render in the page. The sliding window Product[] is of size PAGE_SIZE.
    When transitioning between
    pages, this window is recalculated for each page.
    Also calculated are the "currentPage", "lastPage", "prevPage", and
    "nextPage", which are used to
    render a pager like this:
    Page <currentPage> of <lastPage> <anchor to prevPage> <anchor to
    nextPage>
    The JPF and JSP are pretty well documented. To run the Page Flow,
    drop the JPF and JSP into a
    directory called "repeaterPaging" in an 8.1 SP2 webapp.
    There are lots of other ways this could be done (and certainly some
    that are more efficient :),
    but hopefully this helps get you started.

    We're talking about adding a pager to the repeater in a future
    release of Workshop, but I don't believe that it will appear inan
    8.1
    service pack.
    Additionally in 8.1, we are not exposing a NetUI tag SDK.
    That being said, it isn't that difficult ot build a pager from
    scratch with the <netu:anchor> / <netui:parameter> tags and a little
    code in a JPF.
    You'd want to have "prev" and "next" actions in the JPF to which
    anchors in the JSP are bound. Then, you can keep track of the "current"
    page in the URL and build the previous and next page indices fromthe
    value that is availble in the request. Finally, create an intermediate
    data structure that contains the data to display in the "current"page
    and bind the repeater to this data structure. You'd build the contents
    depending on whether the prev or next links were clicked. For example,
    if your data set has 100 items in it and you only want to displayitems
    20-29, you'd be on page 2 (depending on whether you start countingat
    0 :) and the intermediate list would contain exactly these items.
    Might sound complicated, but I think this would work out prettywell.
    Hope that helps...

    * Implement data set paging. This method uses a simple _page paramater
    on the URL
    * to indicate the correct "page" to display when "Prev" or "Next"
    are clicked
    * in the JSP. The key principle at work here is a sliding window
    of size PAGE_SIZE
    * that is moved forward and backward through the complete dataset.
    This window
    * contains the set of items to render for a single "page" in the
    repeater. As
    * the current page changes, this window (an array of size PAGE_SIZE)
    is
    * reconstructed.
    * The pager consists of three parts:
    * - a simple "Page # of #" label
    * - a previous anchor that is enabled when there is a previouspage
    * - a next anchor that is enabled when there is a next page
    * To render a "page" of data, the _page parameter is convertedfrom
    a String
    * to an int. Using the page integer, the start and end of a window
    into the
    * complete data set is calculated. This windows slides back and
    forth along the
    * data set in PAGE_SIZE increments depending on the value of the
    current page.
    * In this case, with a PAGE_SIZE of 5 and data set size of 17,the
    possible windows
    * are:
    * products[0] -> products[4]
    * products[5] -> products[9]
    * products[10] -> products[14]
    * products[15] -> products[16]
    * Thus, the lastPage value is 4, which is calculated with the Math.ceil(...)
    * call below.
    * Given the start and end of this window, a temporary array ofsize
    PAGE_SIZE
    * is created to hold references to the items that should render
    from the complete
    * data set. This array is passed to the page as a JPF page input
    and is rendered
    * with the <netui-data:repeater/>.
    * Finally, four additional values are made available to the page
    in the request
    * and are used to render "Page # of #" and to provide parameters
    to anchors that
    * will display the previous and next pages:
    * - Page # of # -- the first # is "currentPage" and the second#
    is "lastPage"
    * - prevPage -- the int value of the previous page. If there is
    no previous page,
    * this value is null in the request
    * - nextPage -- the int value of the next page. If there is no
    next page, this value
    * is null in the request.
    * Notes:
    * - In order to have multiple repeaters on a page operating independently,
    * the "_page" parameter would need to change to include a namespace
    that
    * would be used when finding the current page for a data set.
    * - This JPF is implemented with a single "page" action that performs
    both
    * next and previous paging. This could also be implemented with
    "prevPage" and
    * "nextPage" actions that implement additional logic that runs
    on the previous
    * and next transitions.
    * - No real error checking is done to ensure that the PAGE_SIZE

  • Keychains: hotmail, yahoo etc...??????

    Hello,
    I just discovered keychains. I have noticed my keychains automatically has saved every password i have used to various internet sites and emails of mine HOWEVER it does not save hotmail or yahoo mail passwords and i am wondering why and how i get it to??

    Hi there,
    I was just wondering about a thing or two. As far as I read the original post, no cookies were mentioned. And keychains do have nothing to do with cookies, either.
    There are usually two, maybe three reasons why a username/password combination might not be saved in a keychain.
    1. When entering data for the first time on a site, you are asked wether you want to save it, do so later (that is skip it now and be asked when entering data the next time) or never for this site. If you choose the last option, you will not be asked again and no data will be saved in a keychain.
    2. You can tell Safari (and other apps like Entourage, Mail etc.) whether to store usernames/passwords or any other data at all; in Preferences, go to the tab named "Automatic fill in" (I run a non English system, the text might be sligthly different); there you can (de)select three options as to what Safari is supposed to save/fill in in general.
    3. When entering data in a page displayed in a browser, you are actually typing it in a form. Safari tries to determine wether it is dealing with a login dialog by looking for certain clues; if it does not find them, it might not try to save data. It could be that case with Yahoo Mail or Hotmail.
    As far as I know, there is no way of telling a browser not to store any data typed into a form by sending any http headers or the like.
    I am afraid that this information might not answer the original question but I felt it might be important to mention it. Maybe others can shed some more light on this?!
    Regards
    Jim
