Prevent large numbers from becoming scientific notation on CSV import

Hi, I'm importing contacts in a .CSV file into iWork Numbers and it takes a 12-digit phone number from a guy in the UK and turns it into scientific notation. So something like 447729803988 becomes 4.4772E+11 which obviously loses some important digits. Is there a way to force Numbers to treat all fields as text on import so it doesn't drop this critical data? thanks

Your digits are all there. Just format those cells to either Text or Number. Leading zeros do tend to get lost unless you pre-format to text. You can force the cell format to text on the fly by prefixing your input with a single-quote.

Display Large Float w/o Scientific Notation

I have a series of dollar amounts (from an SQL cursor) that I am summing up using a java.lang.Float. The values total correctly, but when I display the value it is displayed using Scientific Notation (4.19150150185925 E12). I need to write my total value to a file that will be exported to another application (mainframe). Therefore, the value when written to the output file must be 4191501501859.25. How do I get the value in that form, instead of the scientific notation form?
Should I be using a different type to sum my values into? The max value my total can reach is 99999999999999999.999

No, of course not, I only checked that it indeed does not have any method that takes a String parameter and that the method to "add" numbers is really called "add".
By the way, a constructor that takes a String parameter does pretty much the same thing as a method that takes a String parameter and returns a new instance of the class. There is no significant difference between Float's valueOf(String) and the Float(String) constructor as far the user of the API is concerned.
(Looking up the source just for fun I see that Float.valueOf(String) and Float(String) do completely different things, and Float(String) creates a temporary extra Float object. The comment above says: "REMIND: this is inefficient". Interesting.)

Hi all, I need to load inside an external table records that contain 7 fields. The last field is called AMOUNT and it's represented in some records with the decimal format, in others records with the scientific notation format as, for example, below:

If, for the field AMOUNT I use the datatype VARCHAR (as above), the table is loaded but I have some records rejected, and all these records contain the last field AMOUNT with the scientific notation as:

No scientific notation in csv file

Hi, All
I have a package is extracting data from DB to CSV file.
And I made up a column like '48484848484848484', when I load this column into CSV file,
it shows me scientific notation along with the data.
How can I get rid of the scientific notation ?
I've tried data conversion, derived column. Nothing works.
This really makes my frustrated.

In that case, the SQL export process is fine.
It's just Excel suggesting a scientific notation where it's not needed.
You can get rid of the scientific notation by forcing your "long" numeric value into a string.
For example
"A001","Item code", "123376265892759026"
instead of
"A001", "Item code", 123376265892759026

How can I prevent Firefox profiles from becoming large and taking up space on the C drive for each user?

I have many users logged into a Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server (Terminal Server) and all of them use Firefox. Each one of their profiles get very large due to their Firefox profiles.
Seems that all the space being taken up by the cache folder. (C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Profile.default\Cache)
Is there a way to enforce a policy within the program to clear the cache for each user either each time the browser is closed or when the user logs off?

Preventing JAXB xjc from re-generating java code of import ed schemas...

Hi, I am using XJC to generate java code from xsd.
However the xsd I run it on often has imports to another xsd that will be in a jar along with its java classes already existing.
This jar is on the calsspath too.
XJC however not only generates java code for existing xsd, but also for every import it has.
And also for every import each of those imported xsd's might have.
So if it were a long import chain A->B->C->D it generates code for all.
How can i get it to generate code for only A and assume all the remaing code can be found on the jars in the classpath.
The A.xsd also has a catalog file associated with it that has every namespace reference pointing to the correct xsd locations within jars.
So it even has B->C mapping and C->D mapping. This was needed or else XJC didnt even generate anything at all and complained it could not reach C from B and so on.
Catalog file solved that problem but not the fact that it keeps regnerating code.

Problem solved.
The xjc compiler reads file name in a case-sensitive fashion, even on windows.
So, common.xsd and Common.xsd are seen as two distinct files.
This was the cause of the compilation errors, since feature1 imported the schema using the filename Common.xsd, whereas the other schemas imported common using common.xsd

How can I stop a long number in a CSV file that is opened in excel from appearing in scientific notation by default?
eg.
"hello","778002405501 ", "yes"
becomes:

I have tried wrapping the data in quotes in the csv but to no avail.

You can change the extension from ".csv" to ".xls" and use table to form the data and use
style=”mso-number-format:\@;”

How can I get Numbers 3.2 to recognise 1e-5 as scientific notation?

I just changed from Numbers '09 (2.3) to Number 3.2 on Mavericks (OS X 10.9.3) and the new version doesn't seem to recognise "e" or "E" as scientific notation. When I set the cell format to scientific and type "0.0015", Numbers returns "1.5×10^-03". I would however prefer to obtain "1.5e-3". And vice versa: if, after setting the cell format to scientific, I type "1.5e-3", it automatically formats the cell as text and I can't get it to recognise it as scientific notation. With "E" instead of "e", the problem is exactly the same. Does anyone know how I can change this setting? I already tried to search for an answer to my question, but couldn't find anything...

I can't duplicate the problem here, either when the cells are formatted as Automatic or as Scientific:
When you type 1.5e-3 are you making sure not to enter a space after the e? (When I type a space the cell automatically formats as Text.)

I have a column in a query that contains a mixture of numbers and letters and hyphens. If the only letter is E, then I get scientific notation instead of the actual text,when I run the report for excel output and open it in excel.
For example:
185701E-02 becomes 1.86E+03 in the excel output of the report
4962E6 becomes 4.96E+09

Preventing automatic scientific notation conversion for excel output?

I have a column in a report that contains a mixture of numbers and letters and hyphens. If the only letter is E, then I get scientific notation instead of the actual text when I run the report for excel output and open it in excel.

I tried pre-pending an apostrophe in the SQL and in the rtf template to indicate to excel that it is a text field, but this just resulted (not surprisingly) in '185701E-02 instead of 185701E-02

I'm on mid 2010 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 and I can't figure out a way to prevent a certain wifi network from becoming known. My college's network requires an in browser sign up every time and once the network becomes known it gives me an SSL error until I remove it from the list of known networks and refresh. Not too painful, but definitely something I'd like to fix. The only post I could find about this was from 2007, so I wanted to see if anything had changed. Any ideas?

In Network Preferences > Airport > Advanced, do the following:
Delete the network from the saved list of wireless networks
UNcheck "Remember networks this computer has joined"
Also (and this is equally important), every time you join this particular network, be sure to UNcheck "Remember this network" in the sign-on dialog.

Convert from scientific notation

Can someone help me with this? I cannot get this working even using some of the tips I found on this site and elsewhere:
Round this and format this with 2 decimals: '-2.58069E-11'.
Now I realize this would end up -2.58, but it is giving me an error instead.
Error converting data type varchar to numeric.
SELECT CAST('2.58069E-11' AS NUMERIC(24,2))
SELECT CAST('2.58069E-11' AS NUMERIC(24,12))
I tried 12 just to make sure that there was enough room for the decimals
If I use ISNUMERIC, it returns 1, so SQL Server considers it a number (at least with that function)
The next example works, but it is not what I want.
SELECT CAST('2.58069E-11' AS REAL) just returns the same thing with the 'E', (as REAL, of course)
In these example I haven't done the rounding yet.
I get all kinds of negative and positive numbers with different decimal lengths, but the scientific notation is particularly tricky.

Before I put this to bed, I have found out both the above solutions are wrong when using a regular decimal:
Try this:
SELECT CAST(CAST('-1131658.27' AS REAL) AS NUMERIC(24,2))
And this:
SELECT CAST(CONVERT(REAL, -1131658.27) as DECIMAL(24,12))
They both yield -1131658.25, and -1131658.250000000000, respectively.
This is probably some floating point error, but how do I take care of it?

Data retrieval in non-scientific notation from Netezza database

I have a requirement where my BPEL service fetches data from Netezza database. In the database, there is a field which is of type numeric(16,8) and holds values say '0.00000000'. The select query on the table rerieves data in its scientific notation as '0E-8'.
Please let me know how to retrieve its value in the form of non-scientific notation.

it is not possible to retrieve data from maintenace view.
it is only possible to retrive data from a table or database
/ projection views defined ddic.
Maintenace views are used to maintain data of an application object together.Data from several tables can be joined and summarized data can be seen of this view based on primary key join relationship using SM30.U make any changes or view the data there only.

I want to convert a large double value to a string,
but when the value is greater than 10000000 , it will display in
scientific notation , such as 3.435E8
However, how can I convert it automatically to 343500000 because
there is an interface program which do not accept the scientific
notation format
