Prevent Network Manager from changing my DNS-And good books aboutLinux

-R option here is not working. What should i do?
Also i want to learn more about the Linux. The wiki's are good to make one thing, but they are not getting to details much. I want something deeper. I want every detail, mentioning even the smallest thing. So what can you suggest?
And i've always wondered why Windows booting faster than GNU/Linux systems? In 20-25 seconds the desktop gets
ready.

I am on the edge. I've been working on this wireless to get work for 1 week. And i am getting frustrated. I have Ralink with rt2500 chipset. For now i am trying the netcfg2. Though the result is same in network-manager.I can connect to wireless network but after 30 seconds i cannot browse any site.It is still seen as connected though.
My rc.conf:
eth0="dhcp"
wlan0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0 wlan0)
# Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each route then list in ROUTES
# - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
#gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)
# Enable these network profiles at boot-up. These are only useful
# if you happen to need multiple network configurations (ie, laptop users)
# - set to 'menu' to present a menu during boot-up (dialog package required)
# - prefix an entry with a ! to disable it
# Network profiles are found in /etc/network-profiles
#NET_PROFILES=()
# DAEMONS
# Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
# - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
# - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !netfs crond alsa hal fam network)
My iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wmaster0 no wireless extensions.

iwlist scan works. And whenever i boot or restart the network i get this:

I guess this may be a feature request. Adobe may think this is a good message for every new eBook.
I sure would like to decide about that myself.

Decided to setup the mail for exchange on my N8 so I could see my work emails. Worked like a charm but after a couple of hours decided I didn't like being that contactable so deleted the mailbox.
Now to the problem, during setup I was forced to enable the phone lock and had to pick a 7 digit alphanumeric code. Fair enough I thought and went ahead. When I removed the mailbox however the lock remained in place with the default auto time of 30 minutes. When I checked in Phone management there is no option to disable this lock so I thought I could at least change the default time to something bigger but when you try, it remains at 30 mins. You also can't disable the auto time as it pops up an error message saying can't unlock phone.
Does anyone know if I'm missing something obvious here or is this something which can't be disabled once it's switched on? I've done a soft reset back to factory settings with no luck and the only other thing I can think of is re installing the firmware which seems a bit extreme.
Would like to hope there is some way to have control over this. Can someone help?
Which firmware your N8 having now? You can check firmware by choosing Call, then type *#0000#.
My N8 works fine on security setting and able to define Phone auto lock period, by choosing Menu>Settings>Phone>Phone management>Security settings>Phone and SIM card>Phone auto lock period>User defined>Lock after(minutes)
You will prompt to enter Lock code each time u define auto lock priod or enable/disable auto lock.
    Hope this can help you.

Does anyone know if there is a Global or Project Security Profile privilege that will prevent a user from changing the Project ID on an existing Project?  We are using Primavera P6 EPPM 8.3.7
    Thank you,

    Hi,
Below project security profile may help you,

Determines whether the profile will enable users to edit fields in General, Dates, Defaults, Resources, and Settings tabs in Project Details. To assign a project baselines, users must also have the "Assign Project Baselines" project privilege assigned to their profile.

  • KDE network management backend changed on update.

The last couple of KDE updates have caused the network management backend to be changed to wicd.  I use NetworkManager 0.9 -- I don't even have wicd installed (but I used to).  The network backends listed in System Settings / Information Sources are NetworkManager 0.9, Wicd and Fake Net, but after updating Wicd is moved to the top of the list and NM0.9 to the bottom.
The first time this happened, my wireless stopped working until I worked out what had changed, but when I updated today (KDE 4.6.3-1 to 4.6.3-2), KDE Daemon and Plasma Desktop would crash when I logged in.  I was able to start programs from krunner, so ran plasma-desktop from konsole and saw wicd mentioned in the output before it crashed.  I changed the network management backend back to NM in systemsettings and now it works.
Can anyone tell me why the backend is changed when I update?  Should Wicd even be listed, since it isn't installed?
I also noticed a couple of other weird things after updating today.  I'm not sure they are related, but I'll mention them just in case.  The arch logo that appears at the start when I boot has changed to a picture of tux, and a modprobe usage message appears just before the line "INIT: version 2.88 starting" (or something like that).

i thought they were the same thing... Tried knetworkmanager and it works fine, thank you very much.

  • Deletion of data from change log table and PSA

    Hi,
For a DSO  I want to delete data from "Chnage log table"  and " PSA Tabel".
For the DSO manage screen I have seen " Environment-> " Delete changelog table" from this we can delete chnage log table data as per my understanding.
at PSA Level Mange screen also I have seen " Environment-> " Delete changelog table" from this option also it deletes the data from change log table or it deletes data from PSA table?.
if this option also deletes data from changelog table then how we can delete data from PSA table?
    Please clarify me

    Hi,
I am not sure what are you referring to from your point "PSA Level Mange screen also I have seen " Environment-> " Delete changelog table". When ever you click on manage for your psa you will be routed to a popup where you can see all your requests in the PSA table & there after if you click on any single request you will get Environment menu option but there wotn be any change log deletion option available. Please check again? Right clicking on your data source will take you to the manage requests for PSA. You can selectively delete the requests as required.
For DSO when you right click on manage you can directly find Delete change log data option in the Environment tab. there you can select the requests you want to delete.
Also if you want to automate the deletion process then you can simply create a chain and include the steps for PSA deletion & change Log deletion accordingly.
Also it is recommended to keep on clearing the PSA table & Chage log data at regular intervals as it saves the disk space & thus helping in performance optimization
Please refer the below doc at SDN, it will be helpful for you in automating the process of change log deletion & PSA deletion.

    Hope it clears your doubts

  • HT201304 iOS parental controls do not prevent the child from changing the device passcode.

So the parent cannot get into the device at all unless the child provides the passcode. Sure, the device can be taken away until the child provides the passcode, but why don't parental controls just prevent the passcode from being changed?  Either that, or the parental control passcode should allow the parent to get into the device, over-riding the passcode lock.

  • Preventing local admin from changing root password

Is it possible to prevent a local admin from changing the root password? I would like to set up a computer so that the user has admin rights, but cannot change the root password via a terminal shell to gain root access.

I can't provide you with details, but I'm sure that all you need to do is to edit the sudoers file. It needs to be edited with <visudo> when logged in as root in a Terminal. The location is </private/etc/sudoers>, but you don't need to know that when using <visudo>. From a first look I'd suppose you only have to uncomment the %admin line, but better get some more information. I never did this myself.

  • How 2 prevent time from changing on leopard and vista?

if i maintain successive boots into the same OS on my macbook, the time is shown correctly, whereas on booting into another OS changes the time. how to prevent this from happening?
    Neerav

From what my brother says says about his set-up (he boots into 64 bit Vista periodically), apparently you can't. My understanding is that the two systems do a different version of time at boot, Vista uses a GMT setting in bios, and I think Mac use a local time in EFI. Anyway, the result is several hours difference between the two. I don't use Boot Camp, but I would think if you are on a network with Internet access, you should be able to have the clock reset automatically using System Prefs->Date and Time, and check the box at the top to automatically set the time from the Apple time server.

  • DNS "A" Record Preventing Networked Users from Seeing Own Website

I just set up a DNS "a" record in Server Admin to point "mail.xyz.com" to my server's internal ip (10.0.1.1).
I did this so users could stay on the network with sending and receiving mail, as opposing to going out onto the web to do so. (I have MX records on Network Solutions point "mail.xyz.com" to my server's external ip.) All of their mail clients list "mail.xyz.com" as the mail server, instead of the server's internal ip.
Trouble is, when users on the network try to access our website, "xyz.com," their browsers now return an error, saying they cannot find the server.
    Any idea?
Lost count   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Steve and David --
This works. I am using Server Admin. To reiterate, I
added a zone "mysite.com" and a primary server "mail"
and pointed it at my server's internal ip so my users
can stay "inside" while checking mail.
Then, to follow your suggestion, I added a machine
named "www" to zone "mysite.com" pointed to my
    server's external ip.
Some questions: How can I be sure the client's
machines are going interally to the server for mail?
(When I dig it in terminal, "mail.mysite.com" returns
an "a" record for the server's internal ip -- I
    suppose that is sufficient.)
    Yep!
Should the primary name server for the zone be "mail"
with "www" as an added machine, or vice versa?
The primary name server just identifies the machine which is responsible for holding records for that zone (domain). Add www as a 'machine' - think of each 'machine' as a specific IP address which identifies a host, hence IP / Name partnership. Any other hostname on same IP is an 'alias' (which becomes a CNAME record in the dns file).
You say I have to do this with "any record hosted in
my public dns as a mirror." I am running three
websites from my server, all with public dns pointed
at my server. (I use the same mail
server--mail.mysite.com--for all three.) Do I need to
set up a "www" record for each website? I have no
problem accessing the sites from internal client
    machines.
the basic issue is that any zone (domain) defined in your own dns becomes 'authoritative' for that domain. So when clients ask your internal dns about any zone (domain) which is defined in it, and your server does not have that record, it will respond with "no such record" and your clients must take that on face value.
Therefore, you only need to mirror records for domains which you have defined in your own dns. If you have external www.domain1.com and www.domain2.com but only have domain1.com established on your internal dns, then you only need that domain's www record mirrored. Your server will therefore not be authoritative for domain2.com and will pass all requests out to whichever external dns is authoritative for it.

  • Prevent Time Machine from changing device icon...

When I use Time Machine on a disk, it changes the icon. In my particular circumstance, I don't want to do this as the attached device is a Drobo containing lots of other stuff, and I'd rather keep the default icon (a nice picture of the Drobo itself).
    How do I do this?

    Thomas A Reed wrote:
You should not be mixing Time Machine backups and other data on the same volume. TM will fill the volume, which will make it difficult to work with other files on that volume.
As I understand it, Time Machine only performs differential backups, so unless I'm regularly creating and destroying large amounts of data, it probably won't use much disk space at all?
If you wish to do this, you should partition the Drobo into two volumes, one for the TM backups and one for the other stuff.
An annoying feature of Drobo (that I discovered after purchasing) is that their website both recommends and discourages this! The Drobo software only works properly if you create one volume using Drobo dashboard. If you partition the disk, Drobo then only sees (and reports on) the first partition. Adding more disks to (or upgrading disk capacity in) the Drobo only increases the size of the second partition, so you have to make the first one your fixed-size Time Machine partition. When I tried this, it seemed to affect the blue lights on the front of the Drobo, which also only reported on the Time Machine partition - the very partition I don't care about as Time machine manages itself!
Of course, if you do that, be aware that backing up data from one partition onto the TM backup on another partition is no good... it would all still be on the same drive, and thus all gone when the drive fails.
This is only true of a single external disk. In a RAID (or RAID-like) system, when a single drive fails, your data is preserved while you source a replacement disk.
Anyway, all of this is a distraction from my original post, which remains unanswered.

  • UNDO Management - Config changes for OLTP and large background processes

    Hi,
I am running 9i on a 2 node RAC cluster - Sun Solaris.
    I use Automatic Undo.
The database is currently configured for OLTP and has 2 undo datafiles - 1GB in size and undo_retention set to default (900seconds)
I am about to start scheduling a batch job to run each night that will delete approx 1 million records each time it runs.
To get this to work without the dreaded Error -30036: ORA-30036: unable to extend segment by 8 in undo tablespace 'UNDO01', I have increased the undo datafiles to 5GB and the undo_retention to 4000.
The question is do I need to worry about switching between these settings - using the smaller values for daytime OLTP and the nighttime settings for the heavy processing?
What issues might I encounter if I just left the UNDO Management settings in place that I use for the large delete?

I would say no, leave the settings the highest level required to accomplish the work of the instance. Once the setting are correct for the instance, you should not have to change them around. They are really max setting for the heaviest load on your instance.

  • Prevent OS X from changing Monitor Resolution

I purchased a 19" LCD monitor the other day. It's a third-party FujiPlus FP-988D monitor. It has a variety of resolutions, however, changing to any of them ends up making it go "out of range".
So, my problem is that I have a game, "Nemo" which insists on changing the resolution to play the game. I tried loading it up with 'option' and also tried doing command-M to get it into a windowed mode but neither works.
So the game loads and the monitor heads 'out of range' and I have to quit it (command-Q) to get it to go back to normal.
I would like to somehow force OS X to prevent resolution changes so the game is forced to use the current resolution or quit.

Turns out the answer to this is my video card will not support other resolutions with the ADC port. It's too old.
