Preview Live Video Encoding Settings

I am working with an AS2 application that was put together a while back. The app is used to publish a live video stream to FMS. I am using the Camera class to connect to a local camera (Camera.get()) and to setup the encoding specs for the stream that is to be published to FMS. To preview the camera signal, I am using Video.attachVideo() to attach that camera output to a Video instance on the stage. This is all working greta for me.
But here's the thing. The video stream that is being pumped to the Video instance is the direct signal from the camera. Nice and clean. I seem to remember that there is a way to view the video signal with the encoding settings applied to it. It's just one little line of code, if I remember correctly. However, I can't seem to find the code that will do that.
Can anyone quickly share the code that will allow me to preview the encoded video stream?

Jerkyness observed when live video encoded on FMLE

Hi All,
I am trying to encode live stream using FMLE 3.2 on mac mini.
Input is of 1.5mbps with 640x480. It is coming throgh canopus and firewire to mac mini.
I have set my bitrates to
1. 800kbps H264 main @3.1 resolution 640x480
2. 500kbps H264 main @3.1 resolution 480x360
3. 300kbps H264 main @3.1 resolution 320x240
My FMS parameters are, FMS URL:rtmp://localhost/live , streamname : livestream%i
The live video encodes fine when i have only 1 stream encoding. But jerkyness observed when i have 3 bitrates enabled on encoder. What could be the issue?
I thought i can use FMLE to adaptive streaming.
I will be using 3 different streams for pc and mobile. Please let me know if i have any issues on the encoder side

Live Video encoder for Mac. Does it exist?

Looking to d a live video stream. Would like to use Vp6 I do not think Adobe had a Flash video encoder for the mac.

There is no Airscan :-)
but you can scan wirelessly on any your OS compatible network scanner of MFP printer with a scanner.
This has to be connected to your network either via WiFi or Eth cable.

Flex live Video Encoding

I am developing a video chat application in flex. Can anbody
help me in the video encoding part?
I need the video to be encoded using ON2VP6 or H264 to get a
better quality. How it can be done live using flex?

The problem is, you need a clientside technique to encode the video-chat-stream with a useable codec, cause the client/user have to upload this video(chat)-stream to the server, mostly with a small user bandwidth.
Actually flash supports only this standard codec for encoding the user video input, wich requires a high bandwith and represents still a real bad quality.
Thats a bad fact for adobe, cause this should be natural for such an "media software/system".
Anyway, someone has a solution for encoding the clients webcam input with a common codec before streaming to the media-server?

Live Video encoding through a flash-enabled web page?

Flash Media Encoder is a great stand-alone application, but
I'd like to know how to encode live video directly using a
flash-enabled web page. E.g., User visits web site and can send his

a year and a half. Unfortunately no answers, though I was able to find this page on the Flash Media Server documentation:

The first paragraph is about using Flash Media Live Encoder, but the rest of describes how to code a custom capture application in action script that will capture the video and send it to the Flash Media Server. And there's code samples with the article. Since the code compiles an swf file, I imagine all you have to do is serve the page through any web server (the article places it in a FMS application directory) and you have live video streaming. Note that you need a media server (Wowza is an interesting alternative to FMS), but I understand that Flash Player 10 can do peer-to-peer video with another Flash Player 10. Hope this helps, this is what I'm going to try.

Does video encoding settings affect menu quality?

Does selecting Best Performance or Professional video encoding have any affect on the quality of the menu video encoding or does it apply only to the added movies?

Quicklook no longer previewing Quicktime videos encoded in ProRes or Animation codec.

This is a HUGE drawback for me as a video editor because I now have to open videos in VLC in order to quickly preview dailies.
I've noticed this happens specifically with Quicktime MOVs encoded in ProRes422 and Animation.

QL under Mavericks does not seem to like the Animation or PNG video codecs at all but I have sample ProRes422HQ files that do play in QL preview depending on the active audio track. (E.g., QL does not seem to like an active AC3 audio track but seems okay with PCM or AAC audio and will play a file containing an active AAC audio track with inactive AC3 audio track.) In short, many of us are still mapping out how QT X and QL function under Mavericks and the new AV Foundation/QT Modernizer routines.

Correct video encoding settings to play on ipad?

Here's the settings that my dvd ripper (iskysoft) used to convert a home movie DVD to an "apple TV" format file
file type: .mp4
format: xvid
resolution: 512 x 384
frame rate: 24
bit rate 1500
This file plays fine on the apple tv and itunes, but not on my ipad. It will sync and transfer but when I try to play it on the ipad the video is all messed up.
I tried using the "convert to apple tv/ipad format" but itunes said it was already in the correct settings.
What specific setting do I need to use to convert this file so it will play on my ipad?

I use HandBrake which includes default Apple product settings such as iPod with Video, iPhone, Apple TV, and it includes a Universal setting.
Some have reported that using the Handbrake Apple TV setting works, but some have reported it doesn't. I haven't read any reports about the HandBrake Universal setting not working with the iPad.

For the PSPware users, what are your settings to get the most optimal viewing/listening pleasure from your converted mpegs?
Mine is currently on 4:3 and both video/audio quality is at max. However, when I playback the file, I notice that the sound is clipping at the higher frequencies..

IPad Full Screen Video Encode Settings

This seems like such a basic question but I can't seem to find it.
I want to transcode a video to play in 1024x768, which is the dimension of the iPad. However one of the presets in AME (CS6) for either Apple or iPad have this setting. What are people doing for full screen playback ?

This preset exists in AME CC but not in AME CS6. It's easy to create your own custom preset for this size however, just open one of the iPad presets set to 1280 x 720, change the frame size to 1024 x 768 and save a copy.

Flash video - best settings

I want to find out what the best practice is in creating a
flash video from
an edited video clip for use on the web.
I have edited a video clip down to 5 minutes and have
rendered it to an .avi
file. I then imported the .avi into Flash and have encoded
using:
1. Progressive download
2. On2 VP6
3. 15fps frame rate
4. Medium quality
5. Video size 320x213 (213 comes up when I set width to 320
and maintain
aspect ratio)
6. Audio data rate - 16 kbps
This all works and the quality is fine when I insert the
flash video into
Dreamweaver, but the file size it over 16mb and I've seen
that other people
have file sizes that are 1/2 that for 5 minute videos.
What can I do better and still maintain quality?
Does it matter whether I render as .avi, .mpg, or other?
Should my Flash video encoding settings be different?

Thanks Jose. That was very helpful. I wasn't able to get it
down to 8 mb,
but did but was able to cut down the file size to something
more reasonable
without loss of quality.
Good idea also about testing with a short video clip.

Flash CS3 Video Encoder: No preview

[note: I posted this earlier in the Flash Media Encoder forum
-- which I thought was the same product as the video encoder.
Apparently it is not! I did not see a forum specific to the video
encoder, so I'm posting here.]
Greetings.
I'm getting no video preview in the Flash CS3 Video Encoder
when attempting to adjust settings. I can scrub back and forth and
set cue points, but the entire video preview is black. I've tried
several source files encoded with several different Quicktime
codecs and in a few different formats including .mov and .mp4 -- no
difference. The source files play fine and actually encode just
fine with the encoder, but the lack of preview to adjust cropping
and other setting is non-optimal, to say the least.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions?
Here's my setup:
-- PowerMac Dual-Core 2x2.66 GHz Intel Xeon
-- 30-inch Cinema Display
-- NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics card
-- Mac OSX 10.5.2
-- Quicktime Pro 7.4.1
-- Most recent version of Flash CS3 Video Encoder

I to am having the same problem with the flash encoder. Added
a wmv file and a mov file to the queue and I get the same results.
I do however see the first frame of the movies. Cannot set in and
out points because the first frame displays while scrubbing.
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Memory: 4 GB
Adobe suite CS3 - all updated.

Summary: CS3 encoded FLV (using Quicktime movie as source)
stops playing halfway through (likely related to the audio)...
Solution: Set audio of Quicktime movie to 44.100 kHz (not
22.050) sample rate before encoding to FLV.
Continued Issue: Is Adobe working on a fix to the Flash
Video Encoder so that all Quicktime settings are supported?
Question: Any recommendations for the "best" Quicktime
video/audio settings (codecs, frame rate, etc.) for FLV encoding to
optimize quality and minimize file size?

I'm definitely no expert; so if others have better info, I
hope they will post too. And the guidance below is from a Mac
perspective.
Using
Quicktime Pro, you can export each movie and adjust the
Options. Under the Quicktime Options (see this
screen
image
for the two settings windows that you will access), the Sound
Options is where you'll set the sample rate to 44.100 kHz, then
save the file(s).
If Quicktime Pro is not available, you might look into
ffmpegX
as an option (though I have not tried this myself).
Note: I read that for version MX, it was recommended that the
Quicktime sound be uncompressed, or encoded using ALaw 2:1 or ADPCM
codecs. I'm not sure if this is true for CS3. Again, I hope others
will chime in.
