Previous business day in sql query

Hi,
Is there a way to calculate the previous business day on teh sql query without using a function call.
Typically in the query where clause as seen below:
eg)
select * from sales where sale_date ='+previous_buss_day+'
If so please let me know....Thnx in advanc.

that depends if your organization has a defined set of business days that will includes non-working days (holidays, etc.). if there is you need to have a lookup table that has a listing of all available normal business day and non-working days. then match it up with your transaction table. otherwise you can use the current system date less 1 days.
e.g.
select * from sales where sale_date = trunc(sysdate-1)

  • How to calculate previous business day

    Hi,
    I'm stuck with an issue.
Task is to calculate 1 to 6 previous business days with reference to system date.
Conditions are : Week is 6 day. In first case its Sunday as weekend holiday and in second case its Saturday as weekend holiday.
Another condition is I have to take care of bank holidays also which are stored in a separate table in database.
How to implement this logic ?
Below I have implemented some logic but its not running correctly for some dates adjusted according to bank holidays.
In this code I'm taking Sunday as weekend off and To_Date is having the list of bank holidays for 2012.

    Hello,
    There are two business streams.
For one stream,Saturday is holiday and for other Sunday is holiday and
    ('01-JAN-2012'), ('02-JAN-2012'), ('07-APR-2012'), ('09-APR-2012'), ('07-MAY-2012'), ('04-JUN-2012'), ('05-JUN-2012'), ('27-AUG-2012'), ('25-DEC-2012'), ('26-DEC-2012') is my list of bank holidays for 2012 year.
Now if suppose we have to calculate 1 previous business day for today 22 Oct,it would be 20 Oct for one stream and 21 Oct for another stream.
Like this I have to calculate 1-6 previous business days for sysdate.
Now If there is a bank holiday coming in between e.g. suppose 20 Oct is a bank holiday and Sunday is weekend holiday,so now 1 previous business day would be 19 Oct.
I hope I have made myself clear.
Thanks and waiting for solution of this issue.

  • Query to retrieve previous working day?

I need to write a query that will retrieve the previous working day. Therefore, it must exclude weekends and holidays.
For example, the previous working day for Saturday, February 19 or Sunday, February 20 would be Friday, February 18. And since Monday, February 21 was a holiday for us then the previous working day would also be Friday, February 18.
I've found some queries that allow me to find the previous working day excluding weekends, but I'm having difficulty with the holidays aspect. We have a table called CORPHOLIDAY that contains a field HOLIDAY that stores the holiday dates.
Can I do this with a simple query? I'm not proficient with Oracle, so any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum!
As Dan said, whenever you have a question, it really helps if you post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements to create whatever tables you need, so people can re-create the problem and test their ideas. Also post the results you want from that data, and your version of Oracle.
The sample data might be as simple as this:
    CREATE TABLE     corpholiday
    (     holiday     DATE
INSERT INTO corpholiday (holiday) VALUES (DATE '2011-02-21');Here's one way to get the results you want. You enter a starting date (such as February 22, 2011) and the query produces the last working day before that date (in this case, February 18).
    WITH     consecutive_days     AS
         SELECT     TO_DATE ( '22-Feb-2011'     -- Input parameter
                   , 'DD-Mon-YYYY'
                   ) - LEVEL     AS a_date
         FROM     dual
         CONNECT BY     LEVEL     <= 4     -- 1 + Max. possible non-work days
    SELECT     MAX (a_date)     AS prev_work_day
    FROM           consecutive_days     c
    LEFT OUTER JOIN      corpholiday          h  ON     c.a_date     = h.holiday
    WHERE     TO_CHAR ( a_date
              , 'Dy'
              , 'NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE=ENGLISH'     -- If necessary
              )     NOT IN ('Sat', 'Sun')
    AND     h.holiday     IS NULL
;What you might really like for this job is a WHILE loop, something that would start at the given date, subtract one, test if that day was a work day, and, if necessary, repeat until it did find a work day. That's how you might do it in a procedural language, like PL/SQL, and that's exactly what a lot of people would do: write a PL/SQL function, that could us a WHILE loop. SQL is a non-procedural language, so it doesn't have anything like a loop. Using a CONNECT BY query, as shown above, we can simulate the behavior of a FOR loop, where we do a fixed number of iterations. The query above works by using CONNECT BY to generate the last 4 dates before the given starting date. What is that magic number 4? It's the worst case of how many consecutive days there can be (at least where I work) that is sure to have at least one work day. Where I work, holidays are always at least a week apart, so the longest you can go without a work day is like the example you gave: a Monday (or Friday) holiday, adjacent to the 2 weekend days. You may need to change the number 4 to something higher if, say, December 25 and 26 were both holidays, or if Good Friday and Easter Monday were both holidays.
As posted, the query above works in Oracle 9 (and up), but it can be modified for earlier versions.

  • Sql query to find answered and received calls for month or day

    Hi  experts !
1.Any one help in finding out the received, answered and missed ,transfered  in  /  out  calls  in  UCCE  using SQL query for a particular month or day.
    2. We have some  custom report templetes defined ,  need to  know  , how can we  write Sql  query  to  get those  values  from  custum reports.
due to some issues,  cannot use  webview .

    Hi,
there's no such thing as reporting "for a particular Team". Teams in ICM are for administration purposes only (to have grouping of agents). ICM does not count the number of calls received by "teams". If there is a report in Webview "by team", it's always by agent. Try to run the report against a team once and then try to remove certain agents from that team - you'll see the difference.
What you are looking for is either reporting by Agent or by Agent/Skill group combination.
    Try to explore the
    - Agent_Half_Hour
    - Agent_Skill_Group_Half_Hour
    - Skill_Group_Half_Hour
    database views.
The database schema documents are here:

  • SQl to find out the last  business day of a given week

Can any one please let me know what will be the SQL to find out the last business day (monday-friday) of a week?
    Edited by: 863997 on Oct 6, 2011 10:40 AM

Assuming for "this week" that you want "last week Friday," then here is the SQL:
    TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_DAY,-1,TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_DAY, DAYOFWEEK(CURRENT_DATE)*-1, CURRENT_DATE))
If you want the "nth" business day of the month, click on this link here:

Sorry, I have never used postgres, but in several databases, the following syntax would work and provide the correct ResultSet.
    select *
    from (
         SELECT

  • Creating a report subscription to run on the 5th BUSINESS day.

I have a report that needs to send out on the 5th Business day, right now i have it running on the 5th of the month but it needs to change so that it does not send out on the weekends.  How do i schedule it to send out on the 5th business day?
    Thanks!

We have created subscription with One-time Schedule and then created another agent job to execute on 1st working day.
Step 2: execute below to get code that will actually be executed by SQL agent for subscription.
    SELECT
    'EXEC ReportServer.dbo.AddEvent @EventType=''TimedSubscription'', @EventData='''
    + CAST(RS.SubscriptionID AS VARCHAR(40)) + '''' AS ReportCommand
FROM ReportServer.dbo.ReportSchedule RS JOIN msdb.dbo.sysjobs SJ
    ON Convert(varchar(500),RS.ScheduleID) = SJ.name
    JOIN ReportServer.dbo.ReportSchedule RSC
    ON SJ.name = Convert(varchar(500),RSC.ScheduleID)
    JOIN ReportServer.dbo.Subscriptions SU
    ON RSC.SubscriptionID = SU.SubscriptionID
    JOIN ReportServer.dbo.Catalog CA
    ON SU.report_oid = CA.itemid
    Join ReportServer.dbo.Users U
    on U.UserID = CA.CreatedByID
where CA.Name like 'Test' --Add your report name here
Step 3 : Create another SQL job  to execute daily and add below to job step
    DECLARE @Today DATE = GETDATE(), @Workingday Date
    SELECT @Workingday = CASE DATEDIFF(DAY, '19000101', theDate) % 7
    WHEN 0 THEN DATEADD(DAY, 4, theDate)
    WHEN 6 THEN DATEADD(DAY, 5, theDate)
    ELSE DATEADD(DAY, 6, theDate)
    END
    FROM (
    SELECT DATEADD(MONTH, DATEDIFF(MONTH, '19000101', @Today), '19000101')
    ) AS d(theDate)
    IF @Today = @Workingday
    BEGIN
EXEC ReportServer.dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='A30C87A9-4AF1-43FA-978A-2AFD05215' --Add output from previous query
    END;
Make sure you test above solution as you might have to tweak a bit to work in your environment.

    >> The current criteria exclude week-ends but not bank holidays therefore I have created a calendar table with a column name “isBusinessDay” but I don't know how to best use this table to calculate the On-Time metric. <<
The Julian business day is a good trick. Number the days from whenever your calendar starts and repeat a number for a weekend or company holiday.
    CREATE TABLE Calendar
(cal__date date NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
     julian_business_nbr INTEGER NOT NULL,
    INSERT INTO Calendar
    VALUES ('2007-04-05', 42),
     ('2007-04-06', 43), -- good Friday
     ('2007-04-07', 43),
     ('2007-04-08', 43), -- Easter Sunday
     ('2007-04-09', 44),
     ('2007-04-10', 45); --Tuesday
To compute the business days from Thursday of this week to next
     Tuesdays:
    SELECT (C2.julian_business_nbr - C1.julian_business_nbr)
FROM Calendar AS C1, Calendar AS C2
     WHERE C1.cal__date = '2007-04-05',
     AND C2.cal__date = '2007-04-10';
We do not use flags in SQL; that was assembly language. I see from your code that you are still in a 1960's mindset. You used camelCase for a column name! It makes the eyes jump and screws up maintaining code; read the literature.
The “#” is illegal in ANSI/ISO Standard SQL and most other ISO Standards. You are writing 1970's Sybase dialect SQL! The rest of the code is a mess.
The one column per line, flush left and leading comma layout tells me you used punch cards when you were learning programming; me too! We did wrote that crap because a card had only 80 columns and uppercase only IBM 027 character sets. STOP IT, it make you
    look stupid in 2015.
You should follow ISO-11179 rules for naming data elements. You failed. You believe that “status” is a precise, context independent data element name! NO!
You should follow ISO-8601 rules for displaying temporal data. But you used a horrible local dialect. WHY?? The “yyyy-mm-dd” is the only format in ANSI/ISO Standard SQL. And it is one of the most common standards embedded in ISO standards. Then you used crap
like “6/01/2015” which is varying length and ambiguous that might be “2015-06-01” or “2015-01-06” as well as not using dashes.
We need to know the data types, keys and constraints on the table. Avoid dialect in favor of ANSI/ISO Standard SQL.
And you need to read and download the PDF for:

Can you throw out this mess and start over? If you do not, then be ready to have performance got to hell? You will have no maintainable code that has to be kludged like you are doing now? In a good schema an OUTER JOIN is rare, but you have more of them in
ONE statement than I have seen in entire major corporation databases.

  • Passing an argument in the SQL Query of a View Object

    Hi,
It is possible that this question has been asked before, however I have searched for a half an hour in the forums and couldn't find a solution.
I am also new to using JDeveloper and ADF. Here's the situation:
I am developing an application that doesn't have to do anything else then displaying data from a database. Pretty straightforward actually.
Now I have made a vew pages with several collapsible panels (af:showDetailHeader) and have setup the datasources (or so I thought).
    All that remains is:
    - drag & drop a view object, from the application module that I created, onto the collabsible panels, so a child element gets created which displays data from the database.
    - hack the layout so it looks like I want it to.
The problem that I have is the following:
I am using a 'User'-class that contains values I need when quering the database.
    That User-object is part of a user-session.
What I want, for example, is to use the 'getPersonId()' function of that User-object and pass the argument to a SQL-query of a certain view-object.
The query would become something like:
'SELECT * FROM people WHERE people.personId = :someNumber'.
Now I've read some stuff about variable binding, which is complemented by something like (backing bean code):
    getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().getACertainViewObject().setWhereClauseParameter(1, user.getPersonId());
The examples I have found that might match my wishes are not using business components, but EJB's. I am having difficulty with understanding the 'how'-part of variable binding.
Also, I do not know enough of ADF to be able to create a situation like:
'User loads page, collapsible panel 1 is fully shown, the others are undisclosed.'
(meaning, that for panel1 a query has been executed.)
'User clicks on collapsible panel 2 which triggers a backingbean that somehow retrieves data from a view object'.
I would appreciate any help that somebody can give.
If it is not too much of a problem, please provide code snippets in case you have a solution. I am new to ADF :(.
    -edit
I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 in case that is of any importance.

    Hello Stijn,
I didn't think about a referenced bean rule in the faces-config.
I added it right away and I am now able to set parameters of a View-object, not using a page button and before the page loads. You made my day!
In case anyone ever reads this post again, the summary of how to generate a table based on a View-object using dynamic parameters.:
    1a: Go to faces-config.xml -> Overview tab'
1b: Go to the menuitem "Referenced Beans"
1c: Click on 'new' and select the existing bean you want to access data from and input a name. In this example I use name="user"
    2: Create a View-object using the wizard.
2a: Specify the query you want in the menuitem 'SQL Statement'.
Add the 'parameters' you want to. You will have something like:
"SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE :someArgument".
    - hint: if you want the result to become something like:
"SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE '%someArgument%'" then you have to add the '%'-characters in your code itself (read: someClass.setParameter("%" + someArgument);).
2b: In the menuitem 'Bind Variables' you have to add the variables you are referring to in the query. If you look at the query in 2a, then you have to add a variable with name "someArgument".
2c: Add the View-object to a Application Module (create one if nessecairy).
3a: Open a .jsp(x) file. Drag the View-object created in step 2 from the 'Data Controls'-pane to the page.
3b: Click on the '+' of the View-object in the 'Data Controls'-pane and open 'Operations' and drag 'ExecuteWithParams' to your page as a button.
3c: We do not want to use a button, the action has to be executed immediatly. So In the page source remove the lines that were created after dropping 'ExecuteWithParams'.
3d: Right-click on the page and select "Go to Page Definition".
3e: Go to the action id that is called 'ExecuteWithParams#', where # is a number.
Change the id to something useful.
3f: Change the NDValue so it corresponds with the value you want.
    Example:
    <action id="getAddressData" IterBinding="AddressesView1Iterator"
    InstanceName="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl.AddressView1"
    DataControl="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="95">
    <NamedData NDName="someArgument" NDType="java.lang.String"
    NDValue="#{user.personId}"/>
    </action>
Note: It is possible to use the value of a Backing Bean in NDValue.
Note 2: user is the bean I referred to in the faces-config.xml!
3g: Under the executables item, add an 'invokeAction' to pass the parameter to the View-object before your JSP-file loads:
    <executables>
    <invokeAction Binds="getAddressData"
    id="loadAddressDataOfPersonIdInSession"
    Refresh="prepareModel"/>
Thank Stijn Haus for this :)

Sql query slowness due to rank and columns with null values:
I have the following table in database with around 10 millions records:
    Declaration:
    create table PropertyOwners (
[Key] int not null primary key,
    PropertyKey int not null,
    BoughtDate DateTime,
    OwnerKey int null,
    GroupKey int null
    go
[Key] is primary key and combination of PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey and GroupKey is unique.
    With the following index:
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_PropertyOwners] ON [dbo].[PropertyOwners]
    [PropertyKey] ASC,
    [BoughtDate] DESC,
    [OwnerKey] DESC,
    [GroupKey] DESC
    go
    Description of the case:
For single BoughtDate one property can belong to multiple owners or single group, for single record there can either be OwnerKey or GroupKey but not both so one of them will be null for each record. I am trying to retrieve the data from the table using
following query for the OwnerKey. If there are same property rows for owners and group at the same time than the rows having OwnerKey with be preferred, that is why I am using "OwnerKey desc" in Rank function.
    declare @ownerKey int = 40000
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey
    from (
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey,
RANK() over (partition by PropertyKey order by BoughtDate desc, OwnerKey desc, GroupKey desc) as [Rank]
    from PropertyOwners
    ) as result
    where result.[Rank]=1 and result.[OwnerKey]=@ownerKey
It is taking 2-3 seconds to get the records which is too slow, similar time it is taking as I try to get the records using the GroupKey. But when I tried to get the records for the PropertyKey with the same query, it is executing in 10 milliseconds.
May be the slowness is due to as OwnerKey/GroupKey in the table  can be null and sql server in unable to index it. I have also tried to use the Indexed view to pre ranked them but I can't use it in my query as Rank function is not supported in indexed
    view.
Please note this table is updated once a day and using Sql Server 2008 R2. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

create table #result (PropertyKey int not null, BoughtDate datetime, OwnerKey int null, GroupKey int null, [Rank] int not null)Create index idx ON #result(OwnerKey ,rnk)
insert into #result(PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey, [Rank])
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey,
RANK() over (partition by PropertyKey order by BoughtDate desc, OwnerKey desc, GroupKey desc) as [Rank]
    from PropertyOwners
    go
    declare @ownerKey int = 1
    select PropertyKey, BoughtDate, OwnerKey, GroupKey
    from #result as result
    where result.[Rank]=1
    and result.[OwnerKey]=@ownerKey

    Ex:
10-1-2011 is monday(i.e) 1st business day.check If it is in holiday table, then return the result as 11-1-2011 else return the result as 11-1-2011(which is the first business day of this week).

  • Number of business days (excluding holidays) ?

    Hi All,
What is the SQL query to find number of business days (excluding holidays) between 2 given dates ?
List of Holidays will be maintained as a separate table.
I need a SQL query rather than a stored procedure or function.
    I am using oracle 9i.
    Thanks in advance.

    Does this thread help?

  • SQL Query - store the result for optimization?

    Good day experts,
I am looking for advice on a report. I did a lot of analytic functions to get core data that I need to make my report and its takes around 50 min for SQL to complete. Now with this data I need to create 3 different reports and I cant use the same SQL since there is a lot of agregation (example would be group by product in one case and by client in 2nd). For each of those different group bys I need a different report.
So how to create 3 reports from 1 SQL query without running the query 3 times?
First thing that comes to mind is to store the result set into a dummy table and then query the table since the core data I get is around 300 rows and then do different group bys.
    Best regards,
    Igor

So how to create 3 reports from 1 SQL query without running the query 3 times?
You already know the obvious answer - store the data 'somewhere'.
The appropriate 'somewhere' depends on your actual business requirements and you did not provide ALL of them.
MV - if the query is always the same you could use an MV and do a complete refresh when you want new data. The data is permanent and can be queried by other sessions but the query that accesses the data will be frozen into the MV definition.
GTT (global temp table) - if a NEW data load AND the three reports will ALWAYS be executed by a single session and then the data is NOT needed anymore then a GTT can work. The query that loads the GTT can be different for each run but the data will only be available for a single session and ONLY for the life of that session. So if anything goes wrong and the session terminates the data is gone.
First thing that comes to mind is to store the result set into a dummy table and then query the table since the core data I get is around 300 rows and then do different group bys.
That is commonly referred to as a 'REPORT-READY table'. Those are useful when the data needs to be permanent and available to multiple sessions/users. Typically there is a batch process (e.g. package procedure) that periodically refreshes/updates the data during an outage window. Or the table can have a column (e.g. AS_OF) that lets it contain multiple sets of data and the update process leaves existing data alone and creates a new set of data.
If your core data is around 300 rows you may want to consider a report-ready table and even using it to contain multiple sets of data. Then the reports can be written to query the data using an AS_OF value that rolls up and returns the proper data. You don't need an outage window since older data is always available (but can be deleted when you no longer need it.
If you only need one set of data you could use a partitioned work table (with only one partition) to gather the new set of data and then an EXCHANGE PARTITION to 'swap' in the new data. That 'exchange' only takes a fraction of a second and avoids an outage window. Once the swap is done any user query will get the new data.
