Previously Working iTunes Will No Longer Play Songs

I have been using iTunes on my computer(Vista) for several months now with no problems until this morning. I can succesfully load the program, but when I try to play a song, the song tracker becomes a negative number and nothing will play. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for the trouble, I finally found a post back from early this year regarding the issue. If anyone else is having the same issue, just do the following:
Go into Quicktime and hit edit > preferences > quick time preferences > audio tab > Select audio playback and recording devices. It will say there has been an error detected and you can disable audio enhancements. It should fix the problem.

  • Help please: iTunes will no longer play downloaded songs

ITunes will no longer play songs that I've downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. It used to play them, but now it won't play them at all. It will play only songs in the library from my CDs. I only have these downloaded songs on one computer, the same as I've always had. I can see the files in the folder My Music/[artist]/[album]. I have QuickTime 6.5.2 and iTunes 4. I don't know of anything that's changed on my computer since the songs were working.
    1) Is the problem that it's an old version of iTunes?
    2) If I switch to a newer version, will I lose all my downloaded songs?
    3) If the version of iTunes isn't the problem, any ideas about what could be wrong?
Please help! I've only had iTunes for a few months and have barely been able to use it. (I can't understand why it would become so outdated so quickly.) Thanks in advance!

Back up your purchased music before you upgrade, I've read at least 5 cases where purchased music has just gone.....missing.
That is not supposed to happen, didn't happen to me or thousnds of other iTunes users, but you don't want to be the 6th person, do you?

You get this message because  iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.

  • Music I have purchased from Itunes will no longer play on my laptop.  When I click on a song to play it, it says the file cannot be found.  Does anybody know what to do?

Purchased music from I-tunes will no longer play when I hit play.  The message "music file cannot be located" pops up and then takes me to some other file system.  Does anybody know what to do?  I have already tried to make sure that my Itunes player is default and that is not the problem.

  • Music I bought from iTunes will no longer play or be added to iTunes

I bought the soundtrack for Journey by Austin Wintory last year on iTunes, but now some of the tracks on his album will no longer play. I tried to re-add the album to iTunes, but only 11/18 tracks have actually been added back. I have tried to add the missing files manually but iTunes will not show them in the library, nor will it allow me to re-download them in "Download Previous Purchases". If anyone has any advice on how to solve this, it'd be a great help. Thanks.

  • ITunes will no longer play nor add to the library any mp3 files which I have created by conversion from a wav file.

I am running iTunes 10 on XP Pro and it will no longer play those mp3 files which I have created by conversion from wav files.  I tried to delete some from the library and then re-add them but iTunes will not add them back to the library.
Can anyone help solve this, please?

  • Itunes will no longer play some of my songs

Any info will be appreciated. I no longer can play my converted songs in itunes after last update. Everything was working fine until the update. itunes will ask where there located but after i show where there at. it still won't play them. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP!!! I about to throw itunes and my ipod out the window.

Sorry, it won't work. Won't even open the file.
It shows me where it is, but when I click on the file, it only gives me the "open"/"cancel" options. If I click on "open" it takes me back to my iTunes library but without the selection. Shows me the song but gives me that exclamation point and says it can't be played.

  • Itunes will no longer play most songs...How do I fix?

For the past two months or so itunes has increasingly been able to play less of my songs in any of my playlists. Essentially, I will click on the song, and nothing will happen. There does not seem to be any reason for it either. Some are downloaded songs, and some are from my CD's. It simply does nothing when I click on them to play. I cannot play the songs with any other media player either. It tells me that the songs are unrecognizable. The songs no longer play on the ipod touch either. How can this be fixed?

Now this is really weird. I believe all of the .mp3 files play without issue. Most of the .m4p files do not play, but some will play on itunes, but some are playing on my ipod touch. None of the .m4a files play on anything. itunes will do nothing but not play the song. If I use a different media player on one of the songs not working, it will deliver an error message saying the file is unrecognizable. One thing is for sure, all of my songs worked fine a few months ago. Now, the probelm is progressively getting worse by the day.

  • Itunes will no longer play one album.

I have an album, which I was previously able to listen to through itunes is no longer working. I tried reloading the album, but the problem still persists. I can listen tot he album through my ipod, as well as Windows Media Player.
When I try clicking on any of the songs in Itunes the song just does nothing. I tunes can still see the file, it just doesn't respond to the double-click or the play button.
Anyway to fix this? I was also thinking that could this be an Apple response to acquiring some songs through other means other than the itunes store?

But all of a sudden I cannot get my libraray or any playlist ti play more than one song at a time automatically. It just stops after each song.
head into your itunes main library window. are all the little boxes to the left of your tracks unchecked?
is so, hold down Ctrl and click on one of those boxes to recheck all the songs. (this may take a little time.)
do you get continuous play once all the songs are rechecked?

  • ITunes will no longer play any music.

iTunes will open just fine, but when I click play on a song it won't play. The tracking icon won't move at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and the problem still stands. It started when I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes. Also, it does the same thing with CDs. iTunes won't play ANYTHING... HELP!

Are you streaming or syncing you music? Sounds like you're streaming music directly from iTunes.

  • ITunes will no longer play a song I bought

I bought some music a while back. Then I updated my OS from XP to XP Pro. Now, iTunes tells me that I am no longer licensed to play that song. I try to double click through on the song to re-license it. The iTunes store acts like it is working to license it then tells me that I am licensed to play it on 1 of 5 computers again.... and then gives me an error "Unknown error (-208). Please try again later"
Is there away around this? I could spend the $1 to download again but it is the principle...

  • IPhoto slideshows will no longer play songs from iTunes since I upgraded to Mavericks. In fact trying to use a song from iTunes crashes iPhoto. Any suggestions?

Having a lot of problems with iPhoto since upgrading to Mavericks. Wondering if there's not enough memory in my version (I was unable to update iMovie because my system is incompatible with the new version.) A slideshow will play but silently even though there appears to be a song from iTunes attached. Two songs where I've had this problem were not purchased from iTunes but downloaded from personal CDs. Very frustrating as I simply cannot figure it out. And getting direct help from Apple either via Chat or Phone has become near impossible as you try to wade through the roadblocks of links upon links. I tried to create a new slideshow and pull in songs but the same thing happened. The aforementioned songs play OK on my iPad just not on myiMac - it's a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, so aging not well perhaps! Any ideas welcome.

OK, answering my own question..well, via Arleen 259 and Old Toad apparently courtesy of keysandfood! (Copy of Old Toad post below. Thanks to all...IT WORKED!
In iTunes go File -> Library -> Organise Library -> Reorganise Library.
    Then quit and restart iPhoto.
Credit to user keysandfood who figured that one out.
