Primavera and Operational Planning processes

Dears
I am actually looking into implementing a Project Management and Control Methodology using Primavera P6. May be this question will be more business related one, but I wanted just to get a clearer overview about Primavera capabilities. Some of the organization need to organize their planning activities through a special operational planning approach to make the planning much more organized an streamlined inside the organization.
Does Primavera P6 provide the needed capabilities to support Operational Planning management?

Thanks for your immediate reply. Actually we need to develop the Operational plans for each an every division in the organization. I fact we will need to be able to:
1) Develop the Operational Plan.
2) Update the operational Plan.
3) Remove the Operational plan

As per my knowledge T-code will be OPU4 for the Sales and operation planning.
The T code OPU5 is applicable for planned orders not for SOP internal orders.
I have checked the senario and reverting back to you.
Did you checked the senarios for the resorce leveling with out creating the rough cut planning profile by t code mc35?

AND OPERATION AT PROCESS CHAIN

Hi bw experts,
I am facing a problem frequently. Daily a process chain failed frequently at the AND operation. What is the exactly the situation is before the AND operation there are three local chains are there and after the AND operation there are one more local chain and program is there. Even it not taking repeat at the AND operation.The message showing that previous chains are not completed. Anyhow we running it manually . What are the possible reasons for failure of the AND operation.
But what may be the permanent solution to this problem.

Hi Vinod,
Before AND operation there are three Local process chains if these three local chains are successful completion only then AND operation is success.
Suppose if you correct the three local chains errors manually ,you have to start the AND process by REPEAT option.Because the the three local chains are not success through the chain.

Version related problem in Sales and Operations planning

The system has been upgraded from 4.6C to ECC 6.0. We are facing the following problem in production (the problem was not there in upgraded development server)
upto last year client has consumed version number up to 321. Yesterday they have created and saved a plan with version number 322 for material M1 and Plant P1. Now,
1. T-code MC87. for material M1 and plant P1, Hit enter.Current version shows as , say, 323.
3. But if you try to create another plan and enter a new material in MC87 (say M2), the version number shows as 322 instead of 323.
Please suggest what may have gone wrong and how to correct.

OMP2 is only use to create the version number please check the version number here.
Also note only active version will relevant for MRP.

Sales and Operations Planning - forecast on customer/material

Experts,
What are the possibilities to maintain a forecast for customer/materail combinations?
The requirement is only to maintain a forecast and the actuals should be updated automatically (from sales requirements). These actuals should consume the forecast so that it's always up to date. A link with PP is not needed.
I'm not so familiar with S&OP --> what is possible in standard and how?

As I see ur reqt, certainly doable if u use the SOP within PP mmodule. With Flexible SOP u can def'ly plan a combi of Cust & Materials (in the sequence u want - Matl > Cust or Cust > Matl)..Chk out the options, help is pretty elaborate..

Have you tried temporarily turning off your firewall and antivirus software whilst the download is happening ? A number of people on here have had success downloading it after doing so.

Career and succession planning are generally different business proceses.
Generally you would need to map the client's own processes; as using a standardised approach here might not serve the purpose
Suggest that you check with your client to share with you their ISO / EPM documentation for these processes.
Else, ask the process owner to shared with you a PFD for the process.

How to analyse actual cost for each operation in Process/Production Order?

IN SAP, I know that we can analyze plan cost for Operation in Process Order/ Production Order.
However, I can not analyze Actual cost for Operation .
I know the object when I good issue material is ORDER, not OPERATION.
But, as requirement of users, they want to analyze actual cost for each Operation.
CAn SAP do this analyze?
If Yes, What should I do in SAP to have this reports?

Hi Emily,
as I see from one other message that you're using material ledger. Then your expectation is apparently to also see the actual costs of materials in your production order by operation.
This is not supported. Actual material costs are handed up in material ledger multi-level settlement from one material to the next, bypassing the production orders.
That means the production order will always contain the material costs valuated at plan price, not at actual price.
For activity prices that might be better, when you revalue the orders at actual activity prices with CON2. But even there I am not sure that it will always be assigned correctly to the operations.
There is currently an enhancement in development, the operation level costing. But that will affect more the planned cost side not the actuals. Might be interesting to learn more about your requirements and the use case behind.

I'm trying to figure out how to determine and how to differentiate between control plane and data plane especially in troubleshooting MPLS VPN. Any keyword that distinguish between them? It seems to be confusing for a newbie here :)

Hi Maher,
The control plane is simply the set of processes that are responsible for disseminating information on routes, labels etc within a network. This includes routing protocols whose job is to communicate information on routes between different routers. The information provided by these protocols is then used to building routing/forwarding tables.
The data plane is simply an abstraction used to describe the actual flow of data packets using paths determined by the control plane. The control plane traffic carries control traffic (which is not end-user data) whereas the data plane traffic is actual end-user data.
There is no single command that you can use to distinguish between the two. The commands you have on a router that can be used to view control plane operation are as such:
sh ip route
sh ip cef
sh ip bgp ...
sh ip ospf ...
sh mpls forwarding-table...
etc... and many, many more
Typically, there isn't a clear demarcation between commands that display control plane info and those that display data plane information... You could use commands such as the following to get some idea of data traffic flowing through a router:
sh interfaces
sh policy-map interface
etc.
