Print 2:1 layout from numbers into pdf zero bytes

Output desired
1 page landscape with page 1 and 2 side by side
Problem: zero byte output when layout changed
Hi before mavericks / last numbers update i used to be able to print a spreadsheet with 2 separate sheets on one landscape page, by choosing print-->print...>layout (2 pages per sheet), then save as PDF.  Anytime I choose anything other than 1 page per sheet the resulting PDF file has zero bytes and doesn't work.  The print preview in numbers looks correct as well as the print dialogue preview.  Something is failing in the export.  Any ideas?

Hi lotsokids,
Just to ensure we are all singing the same tune .
A Numbers document consists of one or more sheets (tabs).
Each sheet can have one or more tables plus other objects (shapes, charts, text boxes... ).
A page is a piece of paper in your printer.
Am I right in thinking you have two tables on one sheet?
And you want to line them up within the page margins so that they both print on one page? Screen shot from Print Preview:
Numbers 3 has lost the good old Print View and Layout View of Numbers 2. We are stuck with Print Preview with limited editing options. We can set page margins, orientation (landscape or portrait), page headers and footers, print This Sheet or All Sheets. You may have to drag the Print Setup Panel up to see all the options.
To help align objects within the page margins, click on Done to close Print Preview. Then Menu > Numbers > Preferences > Rulers (and tick all boxes).
Alignment Guides can be dragged from the rulers to show page margins.

  • Script to merge data from Numbers into Pages document, export as PDF and send via email

    Hi,
I am wondering if it would be possible to achieve the following with an applescript:
    1. Merge Names from Numbers into a multi-page Pages document.
    2. Export each page of the resulting document as a PDF
    3. Attach each of these PDFs to an email with specific text in the body of the email, setting the subject, the 'from' email address, as well as the 'to' email address from a field in the Numbers document.
    4. Optionally send the emails automatically.
I would be glad to know if this is possible before I embark on trying to write such a script, and for any advice/script that would help me on my way.
    Thanks,
    Nick

Thanks Bernard.  Sorry if my original post wasn't that clear.  I think you've pretty much got it in your paragraph starting "So, I think you're asking for", but will explain more in the hope that it will be clearer:
I have a Numbers table with 2 columns: Name and Email.  I have say 50 people in this table and I need to email each person a version of a one page Pages document which would be identical except for their name.
The Name field is the only field that needs to be merged into the Pages document (one time only).
Once the merging has taken place the versions of the one page Pages document need to be exported as a PDF and attached to emails, one email from each person in the table in the Numbers document, with each email going to the email address corresponding to the name in the Numbers document.
The text in the email would be identical except for the name again.  The text for the email body, subject as well as the 'from' field would be contained in the script (i.e. generated by the script).
It would also be good to have the option of sending the emails automatically or manually, so that I could check that the emails that are generated are correct before sending.
    I hope that's clearer!

  • Problems pasting pie chart from Numbers into Pages table

    Hello,
I'm trying to paste a pie chart from Numbers into a table cell in Pages 09 but it doesn't allow me. Would you know why?
    Thanks,
    Pedro

Probably because it is a smart object connected back to the Numbers document.
If you want it purely as a graphic, try copying the chart in Numbers switching to Preview.app and going command n which will make it a pdf file, then copy that and paste that into Pages. But it will no longer be a live chart.

  • Please help! Problems posting chart from Numbers into Pages

    Hello
I've come across a strange problem, and I'm sure I'm missing some simple trick.
I have created a chart in Numbers, it looks nice, and crisper than the equivalent Excel diagram. However, when I paste it into Pages, I can't resize it! It seems to preserve the fonts that I specified in Numbers, and so it doesn't become smaller. And I can't see any way of reducing the font size in this chart. And it doesn't resize nicely when I drag the box corner in Numbers.
The thing is, it's really quite straightforward to create a chart in Excel, and then copy it into Pages, and it resizes and everything with no problems.
Can anyone give me some pointers as to what I should be doing, please? I'm using the 09 versions.

    tgma
    I suggest you experiment.
It sounds as if you will be satisfied with a simple graphic version of the chart, however I tested my recommendation and there are bugs in what gets saved, some of the text of the labels is lost and the legend gets rearranged.
It may be necessary to print the entire Numbers sheet to .pdf and crop that down to the graph.
The 2nd method of copying over the actual chart to Pages works quite well and the data appears in the linked data in Pages. Just make sure to create the linkage from Numbers to first save the Numbers document before copying and pasting the chart into Pages.
A black tag will appear on the chart when you select it. The circled arrows in the tag allow you to update the chart from updated (and saved) data in the original Numbers chart. There is also an option in the tag to unlink the chart and make it solely a Pages chart.
As to text not resizing in Pages, this is generally so in grouped objects. Pages will resize all the graphical parts of a grouped set of objects but keep the fonts at the same point size. This can either be a good or bad thing depending on your viewpoint. Personally my view is that everything should scale as expected.
In a live chart you can click on each part including the fonts and change their appearance and formatting directly, using the usual methods.

    Hi,
    BW Web Publisher Toolbar
The version of the toolbar that you use with the Web Publisher, depends on whether you store the Web templates on the BW server or the ITS server (see Determining Path and ITS Settings).
If you have chosen the ITS as the server, the toolbar has the following functions:
    Symbol
    Function
    Create new ITS Web template
You use this function to create a new Web template.
    Check out ITS Web Template
You use this function to check out an ITS Web template, and store it locally. Storing the ITS Web template locally, means that you are able to change it, by adding a new item, for example. You either overwrite the old ITS Web template, or create a new one. You have to store the new ITS template under a new name.
    Check in ITS Web Template
The ITS Web template is checked in, and saved in the BW system.
    Publish to ITS
The ITS Web template is stored on the ITS you select.
Display Web template in the Browser
The Web template that has been checked in and published on the ITS, is displayed in the Web Browser.
    Copy HTML tag to clipboard
You use this function to save the item as an HTML tag on the clipboard.
    Wizard
This function takes you to the Web Publisher Wizard.
    See also:
Creating Web Reports with the Web Publisher Wizard
If you have chosen BW as the server, the toolbar has the following functions:
The publish function is deactivated, because it is only used in conjunction with ITS Web templates. The other symbols have the same functions as described in the above table, but they refer instead to Web templates that are stored on the BW server.
    Views
The saved query views that the Web reports are based on, are displayed in the Views field. You use the Switch Workbook button to get to the Open dialog, where you open queries in other workbooks.
    Items
The items that are already available for the view you have chosen are displayed in the Items field.
Choose New Item  to create a new item, and to specify the item type used (map, chart, table, navigation block, and so on).
Choose Change Attribute  to determine the value of the highlighted attribute for the item you have chosen.
Choose Save item  to save the item you have been editing.
Choose Delete item  to delete the selected item.
    Properties of the Current Item
In the Properties of the current item field, the attributes that correspond to the item type you have selected are displayed. Depending on the type of attribute, you activate or deactivate attributes by double-clicking on the relevant attribute, and you determine the value of the attribute with either a double-click, or by choosing the Change Attribute... function.
You can convert the spool to PDF using the program RSTXPDFT5 or
    using the fun module CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF.
then you can mail it to others using the fun module
    SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1.

  • How to print a specific page from a given PDF document, using command line, please?

    Hello,
I need your advise, please. My customer requires to print a specfic page from a pdf document they receive, using command line or 3rd party solution.
Anything you can advise, please? I have seen AcroRD32.exe options, but can only print the whole document.
    Kind Regards

Not sure if there are any examples. The Acrobat SDK is a must, but it is best treated as documentation to study rather than examples to copy. The examples only illustrate a tiny fraction of the capabiliies.
(One other note: the solution must involve the client owning Acrobat; Acrobat is not for server use).

  • Cannot drag charts from Numbers into Keynote

I have created charts in Numbers, but I cannot get them into Keynote. I have tried dragging and dropping, but they will not leave the Numbers screen. I have tried copying (or cutting) and pasting, but it does not work either.
I really need to move some things over. Any help?
    Thanks so much!

    Hello
At this time, I am unable to identify the wrongdoer.
What are you exactly copying from Numbers?
I copied the chart when its handles where displayed.
After copying, enter the Finder and select the menu item Edit > Show Clipboard.
If it correctly display the chart, it's that the Copy process was correctly done.
    Enter Keynote.
    Go to Edit menu.
If the Paste item is greyed, it's that something is odd or that the Presentation is not in Edit mode.
If it is in Edit mode, close/quit the program.
    Trash its preferences file:
    <bootVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Keynote.pli st
    Empty the trash
    restart the program.
I hope that this time it will behaves flawlessly.

  • Paste from MSWord into PDF file

I know I can use the touch up text tool to highlight and copy but is there a way I can copy a paragraph from a MS Word document and paste it into an existing adobe pdf file? I'm using Acrobat 7 Professional in a Windows XP environment.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Dov

If you paste it in, it becomes a comment. To do what you want, print the part to copy to a new PDF. Then cut and paste from that PDF to the one you want. One issue is that things will not move around in the old PDF to take the paste, but it will go right on top of whatever is already there.
The other way is to use the Text Touchup Tool. Put the cursor where you would like the text and you can then paste in directly. You will have to go back and put in paragraphs and such, but it is possible. Keep in mind that any editing in a PDF should typically be minor. Major changes will give you heartburn real fast.

  • Import Data From Excel Into PDF

I have made a PDF in Acrobat 9 that has form fields in it, such as Last Name, First Name, Social Security Number, Address, Birth Date, Email, etc.  I want to import data from an Excel Spreadsheet into these form fields.  I have Excel 2010 and created an .XML file that includes this information.  I went back to my PDF file and clicked on Forms, Manage Form Data, Import Data, browsed and selected my .XML file and nothing happens.  I am at a loss and not sure what or where to go from here.  Any input would be very helpful at this point.
    Thank you in advance.

The XML structure used by Acrobat is not the same as used by Excel.
You can try exporting your spreadsheet as a CSV file and then import it
that file in Acrobat. If the field names match the column names, it should
    work.

  • Can I copy a spreadsheet from Numbers into the body of an email message?

I created a basic calendar originally in Excel and have moved to Numbers. When I copy the Numbers spreadsheet calendar to the body of an email message, it loses all borders and formats and looks like a word salad. I need to paste it into the email message because my recipients are unable to open an attachment. Please help me find a solution. I am a new MAC user.

You can't change the behavior of copy/paste when the destination is unaware of the Numbers specs.
I know that the mail.app available under Mac Os X 10.5 is able to do some kinds of formatting but
    (a) I don't know which
    (b) I don't know how they are reflected if the target program is not the same mail.app.

  • Copying a chart with legend from numbers into mail or pages

Hi, I have created a chart in numbers that I want to send to a supplier via Mail.
So I select the chart in Numbers and drag it across to the new email editing window of Mail. This works but for some odd reason the legend is not copied across.
    Has anyone experienced this?
    Am I doing something wrong?
Many thanks in advance for your help,
    D.

    Hello
    - 1 - If I group the objects in a single one, I may paste the entire chart into Mail.
    - 2 - If objects are separated but selected together, only the graph object is pasted int0 Mail.
    - 3 - If I select the graphic object I may copy-paste it into Mail.
    - 4 - If I select only the block with labels I can' Copy it, I always get a bell signal.
I tryed this 4th case hoping that I would be able to study its contents in AppleScript but, nada. I can't copy it.
    - 5 - Other missing feature, I can't drag and drop a Numbers objet out of the doc window. It seems that the Numbers team forgot to read Apple Human Guidelines.

  • Pasting from Word into PDF changes graphic size?

I send PDF newsletters to customers who like to be able to add their own logo or a sentence at the bottom.
In the past (Acrobat 8 and earlier), I would save the PDF as User Enabled. The customer could then copy a graphic or text from a Word document and paste it into the PDF.
Now, in Acrobat 9, with Enable for Commenting or Extend Features, the customer can still paste graphics or text, but it makes the pasted item enormous! For example, the word "Hello" is typed in MS Word at 12 pt Times Roman, and copied. When it is pasted in the PDF it becomes about 48 pt and distorted in proportion. Likewise a 7-inch banner graphic in Word becomes huge and overflows the page when pasted into a PDF.
This didn't used to happen. Any suggestions for a fix? Is there a Preference I need to set? A different way I should Enable for Commenting?
    Thanks!
    Elise

There does not seems to be any preference that can be set. Clipboard text or images are placed as stamps.
One option for people who just need to paste text would be for them to insert a text comment field and paste their formatted text from Word there. (The reason to paste from Word is because the formatting will be maintained.)
Your customers may want to consider making their own custom stamp for their logo and/or any standard text that they want to appear on your newsletter. If they had their logo and text set up in Word, they could create a pdf using Acrobat.com or another free service. In Reader, they could use that pdf to define a custom stamp. A custom stamp would eliminate cutting and pasting and could be resized easily. The stamps could only be used in pdf documents that have commenting enabled, but they would not have to create a custom stamp for each newsletter – previously made stamps would be available to use in future newsletters.

  • How can I programatically control the names of files output from Labview into .pdf format (ie with Adobe PDF Writer or Distiller)?

I would like to save some data forms for a standard test controlled with labview in a pdf format. Due to the large number of forms and test reports, I would like to have Labview automatically assign the .pdf file name based on test number already contained in the labview code. How can I do this.
Note: This question is very similar to:
"Labview and Adobe Acrobat output" posted by John Balone on 1/26/2000. The reponses offered good suggestions but it is not clear to me how to implement them.

This information is essential if you plan to use the Acrobat Distiller printer driver and any of the examples listed here:

  • How do I export a file from Numbers into Quicken Essentials?

When I download data from AMEX it makes a download file. Until I installed numbers I could transfer this file to Quicken Essentials. Now the download file appears to be compatable with Numbers and creates a file there. The instructions to download from AMEX are to make a Quicken-compatible file. How did Numbers intervene?

I would locate the file, then right click the file and select "Open With > Other…" :
Then navigate to, and select Quicken.  Before closing the dialg be sure to check the "Always open with" checkbox :

  • How to imbed image from XPAAJ into PDF livecycle form

We are having a very hard time trying to add an image to a dynamic XML PDF created in livecycle Designer 8. Basically we have a letter document and we are importing data into the PDF as XML. We need to insert an image of the users signature to appear on the form. We have saved the image on a file share and I created an image field in the PDF. How do we get the image into the PDF?? The rest of the XML data is properly inserting into the PDF but the image will not. We are using the XPAAJ API. ANy help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

I'm hoping you have figured this out by now, but in case others are having the same problem there is a section in the livecycle designer 8 regarding how to do this. You can search for "XML schema binding" and an example schema on how to include the image data in the XML you are passing to the PDF (I've been using the XPAAJ library as well) is shown.
Essentially you just need to base64 encode the image data and include a contentType (image/jpg, image/png, etc.) and a transferEncoding (base64) attribute on the element containing the data.
