Print to pdf no longer works. Ver8, vista

been running ver8 on laptop vista for 3 years w/o any issues, printing to pdf from web, from word, from everything.
suddenly lost that capability. file/print/pdf - then nothing.... no dialogue box - just goes back to where I was.
'repaired' Acrobat from hard drive. then repaired from CD.  then deleted 2nd acrobat copy in printer list - could not delete first acrobat copy on printer list.
then did windows uninstall acrobat. reinstalled 5.0, then upgraded to 8.0 (necessary sequence).
new adobe printer appears on list
(recalling, though, never saw the question "do you want to install acrobat as a printer" - but it did.   is that recalling from a really older version install?  yet it did install one)
open word, try to print to new adobe printer - immediate "bang" sound and a small square box with a red X and no message
went back to word, choose original (unremoveable) acrobat on printer list - get driver issue box.
checked services - print spooler is on
three hours into this - ready to chuck this whole thing
(a PC user since first Intel 8086 with 128K memory - just bought first mac (a laptop) and LOVING it - maybe vista is just throwing a jealous hissy fit)
appreciate any help!!!

If you are coming in by e-mail, you might have to login on the web to include the attachment. Apparently attachments do not work from the e-mail connection.
In the meantime, try to print to the Adobe PDF printer with the print-to-file selected. If you get a file, then open the file in Distiller to complete the process. If these two steps work, then it is likely an issue with AcroTray.exe. The AcroTray program is typically located in the Distiller folder.

  • Moved Acrobat from C drive to D drive, print to PDF no longer works.  How can I fix this?

I recently moved a few programs from my C drive to the D drive to free up space.  Now, choosing "Adobe PDF" as the printer no longer seems to work.  The save screen appears, but no PDF is created.  Do I need to reconfigure the Adobe "printer" or similar?  Thanks.

    Hey parlorsoldier,
Could you please elaborate the same on how have you moved Acrobat from C to D drive.
Did you completely uninstalled the software and then performed custom installation for the C drive location.
Let me know your workflow, please.

  • Printing to pdf no longer works

A recent "upgrade" of both operating system and Acrobat software now means that trying to do something like print a web page to a pdf document does not work - crashing the primary application {Safari}.  This means that there are at least three places where the errors are occurring - the OS, Safair or pdf writing tool.  Any clues?
Also, one tempting alternative is the Adobe PDF 7.0 driver that comes as a printer driver.  Documents get spooled to an application that opens a nicely formed pdf document but errors in the log occur "on hold, authentication required" which doesn't have an associated dialogue box or anywhere to go.  I can't then get the document to actually print and use.  Temptingly so close but yet so far.
Environment:  OS 10.7.4 with all updates applied {as at 09/2012)
    Safari: Version 6.0 (7536.25)
    Adobe:  Acrobat Pro v10.1.4
    Thanks.

You never know, someone might remember. What happens in detail when you try to use it, and HOW are you trying to use it?

  • Save as PDF no longer works in Safari in 10.5.1

Since this has to do with the printing interface I'm guessing this is where the post goes.
I found that saving a webpage as a pdf no longer works from Safari 3.0.4 in OS 10.5.1. The print dialog box won't go away after selecting save as pdf so you have to force quit Safari. It looks like the save dialog goes behind the print dialog and I can't get to it.
Anybody else have this issue? I found that other people were having printing of pdf problems, but I didn't see this one.
    -Dan

Never mind. Seems that Default Folder V 3.0.2 was causing the issue. I killed the Default Folder task and problem is gone. Time to buy an upgrade.

  • Print Preview is no longer working. Windows pops and then closes.

The Print Preview function no longer works. Clicking Print Preview results in
    (1) a small window pops open in the middle of the screen then disappears
    (2) then a large window opens (to preview the content as it once did)
    (3) then the new windows disappears (shrinks out of sight) and apparently dies
    (4) "Print previewing message..." appears in the status bar until the cursor is moved off the page.
In case it also isn't working, the system information includes:

  • Links in PDF no longer work after optimizing file

    Hi,
I created a PDF file that is about 5.50 MB that needs to be reduced in size.  This PDF file was orginally created in Microsoft Word
with a linkable Table of Contents and links inside the document to websites.
When I create a PDF from this Word file in Adobe Acrobat X Pro, the links work as they should.  However, the file size is too big for reasons I won't get into.
I read that a trick to reducing the file size is to try have Adobe try to print the newly created PDF document (by going to file -> print -> and clicking 'OK,' even though my computer is not connected to a printer).  After Adobe tries to print the entire document, I click 'save as,' and sure enough, it successfully reduces the file size from about 5.50 MB to about 3.80MB without losing any quality.  That solved my problem of the file size, but for some bizarre reason, it created a new problem with the PDF document.
For some reason, after I shrink the PDF file size by printing the file, the linkable Table of Contents and the http links throughout the document no longer work in Adobe Reader or even in Adobe Acrobat X Pro, which created the PDF.  The links in the PDF document still appear as links, but when the 'hand' hovers over them, it doesn't change to an arrow.  And when you try to click them, nothing happens.
Why is this?  Is there some setting in 'Print PDF document' that is causing the links to be disabled?  How do I get the PDF links to work as they normally do?
I haven't changed any of the default settings in the PDF printer.  When the print box pops up, I just click 'OK.'  It then tries to print the entire PDF document and then when it is completed, I just save as.  Not sure what it would then disable the links.
    Thanks.
BTW, I have tried the optimizing feature to reduce the PDF file size, and it ruins the quality of this document.  The print PDF file trick works like a charm except for it disabling the links.  I'd like to figure out why it is doing this and that would solve the problem.

Actually on Mac two forms will transfer
    URL written as http://www.jqSmith_anywhere.usa
    mailto:[email protected]
and Only if you go through File Menu > Print> Pdf> Adobe PDF
or save document and Drop on The Acrobat application icon in the Dock. (doing this way though you have to wait possibly several minutes.)
And only only with acrobat X and XI.
The issue is when in Word you have higlighted a word, Pphrase or sentence the gone to Insert menu > URL the type in URL or Mailto. Then saved. This is a Minor issue that adode fixed if adobe desired to. It has taken adobe 15 years just fix so you could type in URL and mailto directly. It will likely tthem another 15 to get the other way fixed. They would rather Blame Microsoft and Apple.  rather than hunker down and fix the problem. Thevisual part or vdeo is based on PDF standard Adobe re;ease to general Public whenactobat first came out anew features emerge. And The code for Making Links is identical in both the Windows version and the Mac version. a saved version of the PDF on Mac when opend by the PDF shows the links. If Opened in Apple's Pages just opened the links are there. If doing nothing to the pages file and its exported back to Word (or Excel if its an excel file) the made a PDF. all types of links will be hot. If the File from Pages, or exporte to any of the OpenOffice version and aDF is created the PDF works. So iApple is taken out of the equation.  its squarely between MS and Adobe. And Adobe gets along with no one. They are arogant and an island to themselves, cooperating with no one.

  • Batch printing using Applescript - no longer works

For several years I have been using a simple Applescript to monitor the contents of a folder, print new files then delete these files:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
    repeat with each_item in added_items
tell application "AddPrinter" to open each_item
    delay 30
tell application "Finder" to delete each_item
    tell application "AddPrinter"
    quit
    end tell
    end repeat
    end adding folder items to
After the last Mavericks update it has stopped working and gives the error message "the document m3.txt could not be opened. AddPrinter cannot open files in the text format"
The same happens for PDF files - it seems that AddPrinter app has been changed and this functionality no longer works.
Is there some way to restore the previous AddPrinter functionality (I tried copying and using an old verison of the app, without success)?
Or is there another app that will work as intended?

I have found an alternative to the AddPrinter.app that sort of works in this Macscripter tip from 2004:
    http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=9835
    do shell script "/usr/bin/lp '"
calls up the Unix print command (LP = line printer!)
This enables me to print .txt, rtf, pdf and jpg files
    Here is the new script:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
        try
            tell application "Finder"
repeat with i from 1 to number of items in these_items
                    try
                        set this_item to item i of these_items
set the path_string to this_item as string
set the final_path to POSIX path of the path_string
                        do shell script "/usr/bin/lp '" & final_path & "'"
                    on error error_message
                    end try
                    delay 30
tell application "Finder" to delete this_item
                end repeat
            end tell
        on error error_message
        end try
    end adding folder items to
Now I just need to find out how to do some minor formatting such as font size and margins...

  • Convert web page to pdf no longer works

I have win7/ office 2010/ IE 8/ acrobat pro 9.0.  Previously on win xp/ office 2010/ acrobat standard/ IE 7 -  I used to be able to right mouse and from the drop down menu 'convert to pdf' while on a web page or Sharepoint page, and the links to documents would remain active.   But lost that ability when we upgraded from win xp to win 7.  I just upgraded from standard to pro thinking that would fix the problem, but it hasn't.  I read several of the other discussions but either the pro version is higher than mine, or IE is higher.  I can't upgrade from IE 8 to IE 9 as our internal programs don't yet support this.  According to what I can see, I have no add-ons, but wouldn't know what to add anyway.  I also tried the Internet options/ advanced/ browsing/ enable third party browser extensions, but I do not have permissions to turn that on.  Please advise how I can make the 'convert to pdf' operational again.

I am guessing that you have not updated AA 9 and are likely running on a 64-bit machine. If you expect things to work, you will need to do the updates. But even then you may have problems. With OFFICE 2010, you will not be able to use the PDF Maker from AA 9. For PDF Maker to work you would have to upgrade. That may be true of the IE version you are using also. You will probably have to either open the URL within Acrobat or open the browser and print.

  • What happen ?why can't i print a pdf any longer ?? very very frustrated uninstalled reinstalled 3 times ??????????

What happened ? Why can I no longer print PDF on my mac pro???????? Uninstalled reinstalled 3 times very very frustrated

I cant print anything now from my computer to my hp printer.  Never had this happen until November or December.  Then it seemed to be OK. now today I cant print one thing.  not from my gmail, or the Matrix portal I use as a realtor.  My office partner is connected to the same printer and his is fine.  Mine prints nothing.  All I get is a print screen that says loading preview... and the .. keep moving and nothing ever shows up.  If I try to to to a PDF (which is the only way we could print anything after some update last fall from the Matrix portal) it just spins ... and nothing happens .  WE use to be able to print without having to save everything to a download and that changed.  now I cant print anything.  I need help fast.... I can't get my work done at all and I'm getting very frustrated.
    I uninstalled the adobe reader and re-installed it and nothing helps.  We have 2 others printers in our office and it wont let me print to them either or allow me to save it as a PDF so I can print it out that way.;
I need HELP!!!  Can't work this way and not sure what happened to cause this problem as things were fine earlier today.

  • Filling PDF forms with in-house software - pdf no longer works in Reader

I have created a PDF form in Acrobat 8.1.0 Pro and enabled the "Filling of form fields" feature.
    1)
I can open this form in Adobe Reader, fill fields, save, load / repeat process as many times as I want with no problems.
What we would like to be able to do is "pre-fill" some of the form fields using an in-house application with some data and save. At a later time, users would need to add additional information.
If I open one of these pre-filled forms with Adobe Reader, it immediately gives an error message and closes the file:
"This document contained certain rights to enable special features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and these rights are no longer valid. Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
Other programs such as "Foxit" and "AmiUni PDFSuite" don't seem to care that the file was pre-filled.
Is this because Adobe Reader actually checks some sort of CRC or signature which was created at the time the initial PDF form was created by Adobe Pro - and if the signature is no longer valid Adobe Reader won't go any further?
    2)
What would be the options to get around this problem? Is there a way to accomplish this with Adobe Pro? We need to be able to pre-fill some fields in the form from our application, then have the user complete filling the form manually.
    Thanks!

Enabling usage rights in reader grants specific rights for a given document - form fill in, saving, signing, etc. Reader checks if something else has been done to the document beyond the scope of the rights granted and apparently the program you are using to add the form data is triggering this test for some reason. There is a digital signature which isused to check this, plus an analysis of what has changed in incremental save sections.
What you are trying to do should work in principal. If the developer of the application is available, have them look at what else is being changed besides the addition of form data. They should be able to fix the problem.
If the pre-fill data is the same for each user, you can definitely run the pre-fill and then enable usage in reader.

  • Commentable/saveable PDF no longer works in Reader 9

    Greetings all,
I have seen this on the web, but have not seen the solution.  Can anyone provide one?
Some years back we received commentable/saveable PDF versions of the Bible.  My husband has been highlighting and commenting these for a long while.  Since Adobe 9 and for a number of months now, he can no longer comment/save the PDF.
I downloaded another set of the PDFs (there are two).  When you open one of the PDFs, it says that commenting is allowed.  After you comment and save the document (something that has been done MANY TIMES for a year or more), you get a message: "The document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of the extended features is no longer available.  Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
I know this situation is happening to others since Adobe 9.  Surely we do not all have to try to find and contact the orginal author who enable commenting to have them fix something that is now apparently broken when using Adobe 9?
Help anyone?  Adobe rep, are you there?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tink

  • Cannot print to PDF from IE 7 in Vista

I am trying to print to a PDF from IE 7 running on Vista using Acrobat Pro 7. Every time that I try it, it tells me that "This file is being saved to your temporary internet files for your security" (paraphrased) and gives me the option to open the folder. When I do, there is nothing there and I get an error message in my printer window. I believe that I can turn off the "protected mode" and get around this, but is there any way to specifically allow Acrobat to have permission to run without lowering my security? Thanks.

    1. Correction - the deployed machines are running 10.1.7 (not 10.1.17)
    2. The majority of our machines are running 32bit, I have not tested the 64bit installations to see if they exhibit the same problems.
    3. I didn't expect that printing to an open pdf would be possible. The point was that in attempting to do so, no error message is generated and the pdf printer / IE hang. Closing the open pdf does not release them. Anyway, I suspect this is a separate issue and af far less importance to me.
I've had to be away from the office most of today so have not done much more testing. I'll update as soon as I have.

  • Clicking PDF links within a PDF no longer working after upgrade.

After upgrading Adobe Reader to version 11.0.10, I can no longer click and open links to pdf documents that are within a pdf.  These files are password protected, but I don't even get the prompt to put in my password, I try to click a pdf link, and nothing.  There must have been some type of additional security/protection added in this version of Adobe Reader because I was able to open the same links in the earlier version of 11.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?
    Thank you.

    Hi Prabhakar,
we have an open call on this issue. SAP replied on the 10th of March:
"As this DTN issue isn't reproducable on our SP15 system, please upgrade your KM version to PL1, as per NOTE 911395(same as our test system). If for some reason the issue still exists after this upgrade I will further this issue with our Dev colleagues."
I read the note mentioned (which contains a list of the changes in PL1) and it says nothing about this issue in particular, if I'm not mistaken. Our system is on SP15 (not SP15 PL1), so we'll have to upgrade to PL1 first before we can investigate this any further. I currently don't know when this update is scheduled by our systems engineering department.
Is your system on PL1 by any chance? If so, then the problem has not been fixed in PL1 - which would be interesting for us to know.
    Thanks,
    Jens

  • Combine Files into PDF no longer working in Acrobat XI Standard

Acrobat XI Standard now displays error "Additional files will need to be installed to create PDF from this file. You must have administrator privileges to install these files. Please contact your local system administrator." I am a single user on a single Windows 8.1 machine not on a network. Acrobat XI Standard installed from disc and then updated. Also running Office 2013. This worked fine until a few weeks ago as well as the right-click "Convert to PDF" option - now gone. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat XI completely. I have completed the full on-line Office repair as well. Same error. Any help would be appreciated - thank you.

Behavior for PDFs is not handled by SharePoint, but rather Adobe Acrobat. Validate Adobe Acrobat's PDF browser extension has been disabled (you can do this via IE and I believe Adobe Acrobat has this option within it's own Preferences).

  • Latest updates to Apple caused Nano 7th generation to no longer work with vista

Hi, Itunes updates occurring thi summer (2014) seem to have compromised my Nano 6th generation's ability to sync with Vista.  It does sync with my Win 7 and Win 8 machines, however.  All of the suggestions put forth by Apple to resolve this Nano issue are, sadly, not working.  I sincerely believe that this is an Apple/Vista problem, and wonder if there is a patch.  I suspect not as Vista is going to be outmoded in early 2015, but if there are suggestions outside of the R's, I'd appreciate some input from the community.  The ipod is recognized by the computer, and it is able to 'juice', but the sync feature is not available.  Any ideas?  Old operating system for me, likely going to be retired - but I'm sure I'm not alone with the nano/itunes 11+ updates.  I have options and access to other operating systems, but other folks may not, so if there is any way to address this Itunes/Vista issue, that would be a big help.

Make sure your headset is in pairing mode before attempting to pair again to your nano.
