Printed front panel graphics quality (Print Panel to Printer method vs. Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi)

LV 6.02 (or 6.1)
NT 4.0
I have a vi that the front panel includes all the information I need to print except that it is on different pages of a tab control to conserve screen space. I was attempting to programatically cycle the value of the tab control in a For loop and invoke the Print Panel to Printer method to print 7 pages of the front panel, each with a different tab page selected. The printouts were excellent quality but beginning with the second consecutive Print Panel to Printer method the on screen front panel image of the VI being printed would become jumbled (sometimes, by the time 7 printings were done, the entire front panel image would disappe
ar and a bitmap of the desktop or underlying windows would be visible in the VI's panel frame) yet the subsequent Print Panel to Printer methods continued to print the panel as they should appear. The visible front panel graphics would never return to normal and the only solution was to close the vi (in the dev system) or exe (compiled) and re-launch. I tried a lot of things (like hiding the panel to print before printing and showing it after printing) with no luck. It appears that two or more of these consecutive invoke methods caused the problem regardless of whether the tabs were cycling, or even if there was no tab control and much fewer controls on the panel to be printed than normal. I also had the same problem with LV 6.1.
Finally, I was forced to switch to the report generation toolkit vi's, I cycle through the tab pages and use the Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi to append each image to the report. This is faster and control returns to my program quicker but I a
m unhappy with the printed quality of the graphics of the front panels. They are not as high of resolution as those generated via the Print Panel to Printer method.
Any suggestions?

You might try changing the way the VI is printed by going to tools >> options >> printing. Try the postscript and bitmap settings.

    Not printing text only on Canon--grahics print ok.  Not printer problem.  Prints ok on a Brother and another network Apple prints ok on Canon.  Believe a computer setting was inadvertently reset.  What setting and how do I reset?

    Without your printer model numbers, readers can only give you vague general directions.
    System Preferences > Print&Fax > ...
    ... shows a list of all set-up printers.
    If you are having serious problems, it makes sense to "Reset the Printing System" (which also removes all printer set-ups) and add back each printer. It only takes a few minutes.

  • Can't print front panel graphics

    I am unable to print any front panel graphics with either the file>>print function or the print at completion selection. If only text is on the front panel it will print, but any graphics will make the printer say that it is spooling for about 5 min and then say it is printing, but it won't. If I first print to HTML and then print from the webbrowser the printer works fine. Are there any reasons for this and any solutions?

  • Problem with Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi

    I'm using LV 7.0 with the MicroSoft Report Generation toolkit installed. Under the Report Generation palette there exists an Append Front Panel Image To Report vi. Also on the same palette there is an Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.vi which uses another Append Front Panel Image To Report vi located under the VI Documentation subpalette. Here is the problem; I have serval vi's that use Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi from the Report Generation palette and I have a couple of vi's that use the Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.vi which is linked to the Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi located under the VI Documentation subpalette. Clear as mud!
    This creates a conflict of intrest. In a nut shell th
    ere are two vi's with the same name in different locations doing different things. I have a program with subvi's that need to call each respective Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi and that just is not working.
    Is this a known issue with LV7.0 that has already been addressed and/or resloved?
    Thanks.

    ATC Herman,
    Based on the picture you posted and what you are describing, it looks like you might have an incomplete install. What version of the toolkit do you have? Was it first installed on an earlier version of LabVIEW, or did you install it first on 7.0? Your VI Documentation Palette appears the same as if you hadnt installed the toolkit. Ive attached a screenshot of what it should look like. The VI in question is a polymorphic VI, which may be causing some of the confusion. If you right-click on it and select Open Polymorphic VI, it will show you what options you have, depending on the input. I opened both test and test1, and they appeared the same for me. I was able to have them both on the block diagram. The path to bo
    th of them was C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.0\vi.lib\printing\ReportDocExtensions.llb\Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi. The .llb ReportDocExtensions has the polymorphic VI, as well as copies of each of the possible instantiations. Make sure you have these VIs in the .llb in that directory.
    There is a KB on having the toolkit on multiple versions of LabVIEW and what files you need. Make sure you have all the files listed.
    Please let me know if you are able to get to the bottom of the issue with the above information.
    Thanks, and have a happy day!

    +For now I have it set to Share Public IP address - Is this correct for my Network Setup with The Airport Extreme being the only router being used ?+
    This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).

    5 GHz name indicates that you have elected to use the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. This will allow you to "tell" compatible computers to connect to that network, rather than the slower 2.4 GHz network
    Use Wide Channels is recommended for 5 GHz operation.
    Interference Robustness often does more harm than good and should not be used unless you know you are in a area with a lot of wireless networks and you feel that your network is experiencing interference issues from a nearby network.

  • Uninstalled epson printer from control panel...installed new brother printer....now i cannot print anything .pdf old or newly downloaded

    uninstalled epson printer from control panel...installed new brother printer....now i cannot print anything .pdf old or newly downloaded@

    For starters, what exactly do you mean by "cannot print"?
    Are you getting an error message? Are you trying to print from within Reader or are you opening these in the browser? What version of Reader. Even though it's a new printer, the drivers that came with it (or the ones that were already on your computer) may be old so, have you downloaded the most recent drivers from the Brother site?

  • Append front panel image crashes in 7.0

    I'm trying to use append front panel image.vi in
    Labview 7.0 and when called Labview crashes in the
    standard report case calling invoke node for IReportData > AppendPictureFromFile. Labview just
    quits. What's weird is it appears to work on a
    system w/ a local printer but not one w/ a network
    priner. Any ideas?

    try to generate an HTML report first, and then print that. Some printers are worse than other at printing (what looks like) a simple object.
    Otherwise, I would do some basic trouble shooting, like can you print a simpler front panel image (say two numerics) to the printer. Next, I would try to print to a different networked printer.

  • Replacing Graphics w/ White Boxes For Printing?

    Hey!
    Is it possible to replace graphics/images with white boxes when exporting/printing? Using the "Omit for OPI" option produces black boxes - even worse for saving ink!
    Thanks and Merry Christmas!
    Lars

    You can use the Attributes panel to make individual items non-printing or you can put them all one one non-printing layer. When you print proofs or make proof PDFs for the client you can include non-pri ting objects. Turn that option off for the final output/PDF.

  • Quality of PDF for print as appose to EPS etc?

    Hiya,
    With regards to the best format to get artwork to print etc, creating a PDF certainly seems to be top dog. I was just wondering though if I should expect a reduction in image quality? I only say this because I've created a PDF from my AI file [press quality print, as the print shop hasn't specified anything else] and zooming in on the images on-screen shows a more 'pixelated' image then viewing at the same percentage on my AI file - if that makes sense!
    My pics are quite small, so I'm confident the final print from the printers will be fine [they are also all 300dpi], but I was just wondering if a reduced on-screen quality [PDF viewed in Acrobat] is the norm, even with a 'press quality' PDF?
    I've sent printers EPS's in the past, which seems to remain top-notch - what format do you guys prefer for your final print?
    Cheers,

    Sorry Bill, I should of made it clear that I'm not refering to any vector graphics in my artwork, just the 'placed' images/photos [which are TIFF's or JPEG's] and how my 'press quality' PDF appears to be of a lesser quality than viewing the AI file in Illustrator. I guess even though I've used 'press quality print' to save the artwork in AI, some compression does take place and my images become more pixelated?
    Would a PDF, produced with these setting, be 'worse' than suppling the print shop with the AI document [either with the links embeded or not]?
    Just wondered how you guys deal with image quality?

  • Print to PDF- Improve Quality

    Is there a way to improve the quality of the standard print to PDF function? I wanted to save a web page as a PDF, and noticed that with a certain website when I print to PDF there is some streaking in the font. The file size is also very small, only 200k for a 2 page PDF. I do have Adobe Acrobat, but prefer to avoid it if I can.
    Thanks,
    Alexander

    Can you provide an example of "streaking in the font"?

  • How to print / save Structural Graphics

    I want to print structural graphics displayed by a standard report. The print button there does not print anything.
    Any clues on how I can print / save the structural graphics?
    More information: FM standard is using to show the graphics is:
        CALL FUNCTION 'PD_STRUCTURAL_GRAPHICS'
          EXPORTING
            context_id           = 'GENERAL'
            index                = ls_node-id
            load_pd_toolbox      = 'X'
            load_pd_profiles     = 'X'
          EXCEPTIONS
            no_objects_available = 1
            OTHERS               = 2.
    That internally calls GRAPH_STRUCTURAL.
    Report that we are using to test: RHXSTR00
    Thanks in adv.

    Hi,
    Why don't you use the function "excel inplace" in the ALV?  With the ALV you have some buttons "SORT/TOTAL/FILTER... and you have PRINT and EXCEL INPLACE"?
    Do you use the method   call method g_grid->set_table_for_first_display in order to display your data alv?

    Here is an article from Adobe:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/exporting-publishing-pdf.html
    Export an open document to PDF for printing
    Choose File > Export.
    Specify a name and location for the file.
    For Save As Type (Windows) or Format (Mac OS), choose Adobe PDF (Print), and then click Save.
    When you select the Adobe PDF (Print) option, you cannot include interactive elements in the PDF. To export an interactive document to PDF, see Create interactive documents for PDF.
    Do one of the following:
    To use a predefined set of job options, choose a preset from the Adobe PDF Preset menu.To create a PDF/X file, either choose a PDF/X preset from the Adobe PDF Preset menu, or choose a predefined PDF/X format from the Standard menu.To customize options, select a category from the list on the left and then set the options.
    For Compatibility, choose the lowest PDF version necessary to open the files you create.
    Click Export (Windows) or Save (Mac OS).
    To reset options to the default, in the Export Adobe PDF dialog box, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) and click Reset. (The Cancel button changes to Reset.)

  • How do i change the quality settings of my printer? the options are there but greyed out!

    how do i change the quality settings of my printer? the options are there but greyed out! ie on my old HP I could print in draft if i wanted to print a doc to read and then bin...the option/box is there but greyed out so I can't select. HELP!!!

    You can change the background display color in the playback preferences, either black, white, or checkerboard. This does not change the output color. If you want to add a color to the video, you have to place a custom generator underneath your video and change the color in the inspector.

  • Append front panel image to report

    I am using Labview V6.1 on a Win2000 PC 2.4 Ghz, 512MB RAM.
    I am trying to use the append front panel image to report VI to append a VI panel image to a report. I am using notifiers to synch the execution of the VI with the desired front panel an the report generation process. I keep getting an error fron the Append VI that is a 1004 which is VI not in memory. How do I keep a vi in memory? I thought it would stay in memory as it is waiting for a notification from my report section for completion before closing. The notification stuff seems to work properly. Any ideas?

    Here is a VI that demonstrates the problem I am having. The other VI is the VI I am trying to append to the report.
    Let me know your thoughts. I will be away from this forum starting 8-27 til 9-1.
