Printer uses ink even if I do not print

My printer HP Officejet 6700 Premium uses ink even if I do not print.
I use original cartridges.
How can I solve this problem?

The printer will use some ink to keep the nozzles in the printhead from clogging. One thing to do to minimize the ink required for servicing the printhead is to keep the printer plugged into a live outlet at all times. If an external switch (such as an outlet switch) is used to turn off the printer then more ink will be used at startup as the printer cannot keep track of the time since its last use.
Also, do not run cleaning cycles from the toolbox or printer front panel unless necessary (which is very rare).
The document here has information on how ink is used. In the terminology of that document your printer is an IIC (Individual Ink Cartrdige) printer.

Why is my printer HP Officejet 6600 using color ink even though I'm not printing in color?

I've had this printer about a year now. I've replaced the entire line of ink cartridges at least 3 times now, working on 4. I don't print much at all. A couple of sheets a day or so. I always thought that it was using color ink very quickly so I thought I'd put it to a test. I changed the default settings to black ink only. I replaced all of the ink cartiridges, color and black. I decided this time I wouldn't print anything in color just to see what happened. Well the same thing is happening as if I were using color ink. The color ink is draining out much quicker than the black ink. This seems weird to me. Now we are at the point where it won't print unless I replace the magentia cartridge. This also seems unfair that they do not mention this clearly when you purchase the item. Something like "Oh, by the way, we aren't making enough money doing business as we should, so we will make you replace your ink supply even though it really isn't necessary and that should pick up the slack". I've paid for a new printer already with ink costs. Is there a way to get around this or am I stuck with it. Thanks.

When you set the printer to print in grayscale did you also select "Black ink only"?
HP and other printer manufacturers have different printer technologies for different needs.
Some have printheads built into the ink cartridges. These printers can typically print with one or more of the colors completely empty, or even with color or black (but not both) cartridges removed. The Deskjet 6980 series is an example.
Other printers have separate ink supplies and replaceable printheads. An example would be the Officejet 8600 printer. The printhead in these printers can be replaced if they are damaged by running the printhead with colors out. Some of these printers will allow printing with a color out, other will not. If the printer is run without ink in one or more colors the printer may be damaged, but the user may be able to recover without having to send the printer for service.
Other printers have permanent printheads. To run these without some ink in all the colors would risk causing damage to the printhead due to clogs, air ingested in the printheadvor burned out printhead firing resistors. The Photosmart 6600 series is an example of this type of printer. For printers with fixed printheads this could require service to get the printer to print properly again when the ink is finally replaced.
The document here describes how ink is used. While the document is written for HP Inkjet printers the same principles apply to inkjet printers from other manufacturers.

Printing only odd/even numbered pages does not work

I've got following problem: Printing only odd/even numbered pages does not work. Not in Preview, nor Adobe Reader. I Don't know why. i'm using a hp Color LaserJet 2550L. I just worked fine, but I cannot remember the time this failing first occured. I really hope the problem will be solved quick and easy.

Mine does not work either. I have trashed prefs, rewrote permissions, ran Disk Utility from a separate HD, etc. and I cannot get this feature to work.
I got 45 odd pages to print last night and now it won't print odd or even pages. I am reduced to printing every backside page one at a time. If I would have known about this problem before I could have saved myself an hour and just printed them all on single sided sheets. I tried to save paper and now I'm screwed (timewise)......
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that you would like to know how to load and print envelopes with your HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with printing envelopes!
First, I'll have you properly load the envelope:
Open the paper tray door, and then pull it toward you to extend the paper tray.
Gently pull out the paper tray extender, and then lift up the paper catch.
Pull out the paper tray, and then pull out the tray extender
Slide the paper width guides to their outermost position.
Slide out the paper width guides
Remove any paper from the paper tray.
Load the envelope into the middle of the paper tray, print side down, and with the flap on the left and facing up.
NOTE: You can load one or more envelopes in the tray, but do not load more than five envelopes at a time. Do not use shiny or embossed envelopes or envelopes that have clasps or windows.

Slide in the paper width guides until they rest against the edges of the envelope.

How to Print Envelopes from Word:
1. Open Word and click on Mailings at the top
2. Select 'Envelopes' from the top left hand side
3. An Envelopes and Labels page should now open. Enter your Delivery and Return Addresses.
4. Select 'Options' on the bottom right hand side.
5. Under the 'Envelope Options' tab ensure that your Envelope size is appropriately selected.
6. Select the 'Printing Options' tab at the top. You now need to select the appropriate Feed Method for your product.
7. Make sure that you choose the 'Face Down' option.
8. Also ensure that 'Clockwise Rotation' is selected.
9. Hit 'OK' and 'print'

It sounds like the windows computer has captured the printer..
I suggest you turn the windows computer off.. reboot the rest of the network and see if the Mac can then print.. if not, remove the printer setup in the Mac and redo it.
Remember the TC has absolutely nothing to do with this.. TC is merely a wireless router.
This is windows and Mac interferring with each other.

Printing is unclear and black lettering does not print at all when I use my PC

Hello PW, I am having this problem and all suggestions haven't worked yet. Where is the Preferences|Documents you are referring to? I am on a PC and using Windows.

Hp1300 all in one printer - no ink coming onto paper when I print!

I have been using our HP1300 All in One Inkjet printer for many years. Now when I 'print' no ink comes out onto the page! The printer behaves completely normally and 'prints' the correct number of pages etc. but no ink comes out! I have changed the cartridges but to no avail. Could anyone suggest what the problem might be please?

6500A Plus print jobs sit in tray, and do not print for extended periods

Printer is connected to two computers wireless and has been working fine. Recently began just sitting there after you click on print. Icon comes up in tray, but printer does not start print job. Often get pop-up message that says print job failed, after it finally prints the job. We sometimes have to wait several minutes for it to begin printing.

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
- Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

I bought a new HP Office Jet 8600 witeless printer, following directions, I loaded it onto to my notebook. My mac seems to recognize the printer but ir not printing. I have a dell desktop and HP laptop to which I also loaded the primter to and they both work but my apple MacBook does not.

Yep, I believe you have not gone thru the proper steps to create a printer instance on your Mac and/or don't have the latest round of HP drivers as distributed by Apple via Software Update.
We recently got a 5200tn LaserJet and I was able to fully access all its features in less than 5 minutes. Even got a full configuration utility from where I can set up all the printer's featues as a bonus. All contained as part of the OS, did not have to download anything from HP or even get the install CD that came with the printer out of its bag.

When printing a form, blank drop downs do not print

I am creating a Form for people to use and wanted to give them the option to print it out and fill it out by hand if they preferred. I have encountered a problem with printing Drop Down Menus: if you select one of the options from a Drop Down Menu, everything prints fine, but if you don't select anything the empty box will not print. The weird part is that if you click on the Drop Down Menu, but don't select anything, it will then print the empty box. I also tried it with one of the existing templates and the same thing happened, i.e. prints the box with the selction if a choice is made, prints an empty box if the menu is clicked on but nothing is selected, prints no box if the Drop Down Menu is left alone.
I am not sure if this is a printer setting in Adobe Reader/Acrobat or if this is a setting in FormsCentral. Can anyone help me find a way to force all Drop Down Menus to print out the black box regardless of what is entered or clicked on? Thank you!
