Printer v HH3

My wireless printer had been working like a dream for months and months then suddenly back in Januray is required that I restarted the router/hub every day to get the printer to work.
Some say I should assign a static address; I have spoken to Epson they say no need:-
" no, you should not have to assign a static IP address to your printer. Providing that your other router settings are correct (as per our previous email) and the printer is not disconnecting from it, then you will be able to connect it to your PC using the already static MAC address. Once you have got the printer stably connected to your router we recommend following the instructions in the following Knowledge Base article to get a stable connection to your computer as wel"
I have reset the hub, reconnected printer to network.
Yet I still can't see why I need to restart the router everyday? Is it  something to do with IP addresses renewals?
Any thoughts would be very helpful.
Thanks

Have you tried a factory reset of the home hub?
Printers work best if they have a static IP address.

  • New HH3 - Issues with Kodak Printer and iPhone 3GS

    Hello,
    Here is the background:
Previously had a D-Link DSL-G624M router and everything connected wirelessly. This included 2 laptops, Kodak ESP 5250 Printer and iPhone 3GS. Router broadcasting on channel 6 (locked).
Since upgrading to Infinity replaced the D-Link with a HH3. Laptops connect fine but have issues with other wireless devices.
iPhone: Seems to lose internet (not necessarily wireless connection though) intermittently. The phone remains connected to the HH3 and can be seen in the DHCP table and Home Network screens. The iPhone also reports that it is connected to the HH3. However, when attempting to access the internet using either Safari or apps it doesn't work. This can be fixed by forgetting the network and re-joining or turning Airplane Mode on and then off.
Kodak ESP5250 Printer: This connects fine to the HH3 and remains in the DHCP table and Home Network with the correct IP Address. Laptop A is able to connect and print successfully. However, after putting the laptop into sleep mode and re-waking it it is unable to Print. The Printer is still connected to the HH3 and laptop claims it is 'Ready' but unable to print. The only way i have found to fix this is to re-install the entire Printer software!! However, Laptop B does not have this problem and can be put into Sleep mode, Hibernate or restart and the printer remain connected. I do not think it is a firewall issue as able to connect until re-waking from sleep.
You're probably thinking the same as me that this sounds like hardware issues and not the HH3. Maybe coincidence that it started happening after changing to HH3. Maybe something wrong with the iPhone or Laptop A and/or Printer?!? Tried setting a manual channel on the HH3 as suggested by other posts but this had no effect. (Used inSSIDer to determine best channel). Also increased the IP Address lease time from 1 Day to 21 Days - but again no difference.
Current situation: Connected the D-Link router to the HH3 using Ethernet cable. Disabled DHCP and DNS on the D-Link router and kept SSID different. Now connected all devices to the D-Link router and nothing to the HH3 and everything is working as it did previously. The iPhone remains stable and the Kodak printer remains connected to both Laptops after re-waking from Sleep Mode.
I haven't yet contacted BT but i'm leaning towards it being a dodgy HH3. Anyone have any suggestions??
    Thanks,
    Martyn...

For starters, there's nothing wrong with your Iphone or Kodak prn. The issue is the HH3
I had a very similar issue connecting iMac, iPad, Macbook Pro, iPhone, Thinkpad and Canon prn via wireless to the HH3... Lots of disconnections, devices that couldn't log in, very low wireless speeds, printer not recognized, etc,etc
I went mad, pretty much did the same things as you did: inSSIDer, changing channels, re-installing whole softw drv !, reorientating HH3 position, manually assigning IPs and channels... nothing would seem to work!
Then I connected a Netgear router to HH3 via ethernet cable -like you did- and suddenly everything seemed to go back to normal. Here's what I found out after much head knocking:
    1) The issue is the HH3, not that it's faulty but simply put it can't deal with lots of wireless traffic. The minute you connect several devices it gets clogged up
    2) HH3 seem not to recognize WiFI printers that have a 'static' IP (not sure why)...  this was a nightmare
    3) if you have many devices connected, HH3 doesn't  seem to 'like' Apple devices or wifi Airport powered (not sure why). After sleep mode these device can't pick up IP over the air, and you need to manually renew DHCP leases. There are several reports about this in Apple forums.
    So here's what I did:
    1) I ditched the HH3
    2) I connected the Openreach router to a dual-band Netgear wndr3400 **cable** router (PPPoE connection)
    3) I re-installed the prn drv in USB mode and then added wifi printer in wifi mode while usb connected
    4) I created two-split WIFI networks; one in the channel 6/2.4Ghz frequency and another in the channels 44-48/5Ghz freq to which I assigned most devices (It seems BT Infinity wifi works best in 5Ghz channels)
Results: all devices recognised & connected via WiFI, no disconnections, steady WIFI speed almost as fast as ethernet cable, wifi prn prints fine from all devices... No more WIFI connnectivity issues.
I hope this helps, good luck
(note: my current issue is that my profile dropped from 34/8 to 21/2 during testing phase)

  • Connecting a printer via Ethernet to Router

I have just migrated from HH3 to HH5.  Using HH3 I had an Oki MFP connecting via an ethernet cable to the router, and all computers using the router wirelessly could then also use the printer.
However, I have now spent about six hours trying to get this to work on the HH5 to no avail.  Oki Help Desk have checked absolutely everything, and it is clearly something to do with the new router rather than the printer.  I know that the router is not meant to function as a print server, and so I suspect that BT have now changed something so that this will no longer work (they said it didn't work previously, but clearly it did because I was using it for years!)
Would just like to know definitively if this will definitely not work, having spent so much time on it, and knowing that it used to work.  Oki have stated that there is possibly some reserved IP addresses that could be used for this.  I have tried using the IP address that is allocated to the printer and then manually changing the IP address on the printer as well and connecting to that, but none of these work.  Does anybody know if there are there any IP addresses that will work or will this definitely not work at all?
If I cannot attach my printer this way, how should I be installing my printer so that others can share it over the network?
    Thanks for your help.

    I am pleased it worked
Their definition of sharing is unlikely to be the same as what Windows networking expects, so it should not make any difference.
Sharing would normally refer to the case when you have the printer connected via USB, and you want other Windows devices to be able to access it, via you computer.

  • How many wifi connections to HH3?

Hi. I have a HH3 and between myself and my family, we have many devices connected to it via wifi. In total I have:
    4 x Apple TVs
    5 x iPhones
    3 x iPads
    2 x iMacs
    2 x PCs
    1 x Printer
    2 x Sky+ boxes
    (19 devices in total)
Recently, all of my family have been complaining that their device(s) won't connect to the wifi. I have had a look at their devices, and entering the password (which has always worked in the past) produces a message saying something like "Unable to join BTHub3-****)
This evening, I turned on one of the Apple TV's that I have not used for a couple of months and saw the following message
There was a problem connecting to the network.
The Wi-Fi network you're attempting to join cannot host any more devices. Disconnect other devices and try again. (-3913)
I suspect this is the same problem that my family has been having but with a more detailed explanation of the error.
Now contrary to popular belief, this problem is not likely to have anything to do with the fact that most of my products are Apple and so I am not looking for suggestions on switching to Android.  What I want to know is does the HH3 actually have a limit on how many devices can be connected at once and if so, how can I resolve my problem?  I am getting inconcistent feedback from BT support so hopefully I can get a straight answer here.
    Thanks

If you do a factory reset of the home hub, it should clear out any old entries, and should allow you to re-connect your wireless devices.

  • Can't connect to other devices via HH3

I seem to have an issue with my HH3 in that devices stop being able to see each other. Eg after a while my iPad can't print to the HP printer, or my PC can't print to the printer, my iPad can't connect to my Sky+ Box or it can't can't connect to Chromecast.
Some devices, eg Sky+ is wired! others wifi. DHCP lease extended to max.
Fix varies from toggling wifi on device to restarting hh3.
    Any suggestions?

The DHCP function of the home hubs can be quite unpredictable. It sometimes helps if you tell it to use the same IP address for each device, or you assign static IP addresses to devices.
Looking at your other post, you would be better reverting to your Netgear router.

  • Setting IP address reservation in HH3

We are due to get a BT Home Hub 3 shortly but I want to be able to do the settings when it arrives. Without the hub yet I don't know what features the Manager offers, the web page appears to have been removed!
Can I set up IP Address reservation for Ethernet and WiFi connections?  I do that at present with my Netgear and TP-Link modem/routers as one layer of security and want to do the same/similar on the HH3.  Note that family members visiting will need access without changing any settings on their laptops/netbooks apart from the WPA key.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Now have the HH3 - and it is NOT possible to set any IP Address Reservation at all, so it is rather insecure.  Not being able to restrict what MAC's are recognised as being valid to connect to either the Ethernet or WiFi networks means that literally anyone can connect and use your line - adding their traffic to your use and potentially exceeding the monthly allowance.  Plus they can have access to connected equipment and potentially sniff your data or install malware, spyware, Trojans, etc.
This is not what I expect from BT and strongly recommend they have the software/firmware re-written to include that security feature.  I gather the Business version has it so why not the Home version?
I am now using my Netgear router/modem and have set it up to connect correctly - and to give me that level of security missing in HH3.  In addition, my network printer server works properly - it needs a 'static' IP on the internal Ethernet network that the HH3 could not provide.
So very disappointed in the HH3, but at least I will not have my line being used by others without my knowledge and consent.

  • Unable to Connect Wirelessly to Printer

    Hi all.
Since I had my BT Infinity installed I am unable to connect to my printer Wirelessly like I had previous. I have an Epson SX600FW Inkjet All-in-One Printer. I have the BT Homehub 2.0. How do you configure this hub/router for the Wireless Printer? I cannot see any way of doing this?
Out of desperation, I have even tried to attach my old Router to the Homehub (even replace the BT Hub with it) but got nothing at all. Not even internet connection!
    Can anyone help?

Infinity installed yesterday. Works perfectly both with laptop and Wi Fi Blue Ray DVD but will not work with printer which is an Epson Stylus SX425W. I have set up printer ok to run on Wi Fi but it will not print and I keep getting error messages. Spoken to Epson who have been thro the set up, confirmed that all is ok and asked me to print a status check. This says that network is working correctly but "A router/access point channel conflict has been detected". According to Epson, the solution is for the BT Hub to be configured so that it allows any Epson product through it's firewalls, and for MAC address filtering to be turned off. This is out of my league - is there anyone out there who recognises this issue and can help?
    Hi rdec1945
I dont use that printer but the epson PX710W.
Have you used the printers on screen menu.
    Setup
    OK
    Network Settings
    OK
Wireless setup wizard  or even Advanced setup and then WPS Wireless LAN setup, where you use the WPS button on the side of the HH3.
Setting up mine did not involve opening any thing in the firewall or doing anything with MAC address filtering.
[edit] have a look at this post from geaves, again not the same printer but suggests setting it up with ethernet first, I think its post 6.

  • HH3 slows down network speeds

Not long ago I decided to upgrade from HH2 to HH3. I have a home network where the wired component utilises Western Digital power line devices. I have a network storage device which holds primarily music files. I regularly transfer music files around the network. Not long after installing the HH3 I noticed that file transfers were taking far longer than ever before. I used LAN Speedchecker to discover that the network speed had dropped to around 10% of previous norms. Power cycling of the HH3 solved the problem temporarily but it soon returned. Switching back to HH2 the problem disappears completely. Any suggestions as to why the HH3 may be creating the network speed issues ?

    Hi Bob,
Sounds as if you might have fallen fowl of the confused hub syndrome - where the 3 x 100/10 Mb ports on what appears to be quite a few HH3A's (there is a thread not far down the speed/connection list all about it) switch between 100 and 10 Mbps..
I had a network similar to you, but all wired - my main computer connected to the gigabit hub and a 100mb port feeding a network switch that had back up hard drive - printer server and assorted others.
I found that my computer couldn't talk to the back up hard drive - this was down to the gigabit port only allowing an upload speed of 2Kbps(not a typo!). I also saw that the 100 Mbps port was sometimes only connecting at 10 Mbps.
A good point to see what connection has been made is the devices option on the HH - clicking on a device shows that info.
Not sure if this "feature" is on the new HH3B or not.
    Hope this helps

  • Vison Reboot without HH3 ?

    Hello
This has sort of evolved from an initial post in the Infinity section, but may be better placed here:
Basically I have swapped out my OR Modem and HH3 for a DrayTek 2850n
    My setup goes:
Connection into houe -> 2850n (In study and hardwired to PC / Printer / Laptop and Homeplug) -> Homeplug (Study) -> Homeplug (Lounge) -> 2nr router / WAP -> Media Streamer and BT Vision Box / TV
After looking on my PC the network "Map" couldn't "see" the homeplugs or anything beyong so, no media straemer (cant use) No WAP (no extended signal to that side of the house) and, worst of all, no iplayer or on demand TV
After some reading up it appears to be some IP allocation of teh homeplugs and a reboot of these will help, it did and the Streamer / WAP etc are fine, but no iPlayer im getting a "Code 0, Failed to load resource"
After more reading a reset of the BT Vision Box seems to cure it, so reboot that (Hard reboot, cable out the back jobby).
I am then met with the boot up screen
    Boroadbank Connection - Tick
Connection to Home Hub - X
Rinse, repeat, cant even get any TV without the HH being installed, it just won't go past this stage
It appears that in the recent software update to Vision (notice the colours have changes slightly) the reboot requires it to scan and check for the HH3 (IP allocation / confirmation or something ?) so all up and running nicely (bar the PITA manual input of password on any option changes to teh 2850n) BUT no TV
Unplugged everything and put OR modem and HH3 back in - straight in, media streamer, TV, Iplayer OD TV.
It was late by the time id got to this point and have to leasve the TV / Media streamer fully up and running today as the wife is at home with the kids.
But can anyone help with the HH scan at start up of teh Vision Box and any workround (which also leaves me with iplayer) ?
    Many thanks

  • Connecting network printer to Home Hub 3

I am aware there are many similar posts to this, but none of them seem to have answers!
I have just switched to BT Broadband with a Home Hub 3. Everything has connected fine, either wirelessly or via cable (a Siemens VoIP phone and Vodafone SureSignal) EXCEPT the network printer.
We have used an OKI 3200n for years, with a couple of different routers (Netgeat and Belkin) without problems. However, the router will just not see it. I have tried changing the IP address and both fixed manual and automatic IP addresses on the printer without success.
If anoyone could suggest IP / MAC settings which would allow the Home Hub 3 to see it, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    R

Although this is marked as solved, I haven't fixed it. For some reason, whenever everything is turned off (I have my laptop, the router and printer on the same remote controlled socket), e.g. at night, when it all starts up again the printer has changed it's TCP/IP address.
This is despite setting it to Manual TCP/IP address setting in the printer menu (just for good measure, it resets this as well!).
As I never had this problem with my old Belkin Router, I can only think it's something to do with the HH3, although I have specified it to use the same IP address for the printer whenever connected.
I've tried using OKI admin software to change the printer settings, which hasn't worked, as well as re-installing and every conceivable combination of turning SNMP on and off in both Windows and the Printer.
Any help would be gratefully received! I can't keep reinstalling my printer every time I turn the computer on!

  • Connecting with a Wireless Printer on Home Hub 3.

How do I get a XP Notebook to connect with the HP Photosmart 6510 connected wirelessly to my BT Home Hub 3.
My Network Places shows BT Home Hub 3.
Double click on HH3 and scrolling down to My Home Network.
You can see HPFE0AAB under wireless network, which is the HP Photosmart 6510.
According to the Photosmart it’s url is 192.168.7.71 and it is correctly connected to the hub.
The XP Notebook does have the relevant basic printing drivers installed for the Photosmart.
Perhaps I should add that I gave up trying to connect the Windows 8 Desktop to the printer wirelessly and used a USB instead. I’m not sure if the problem is with the set up of the Notebook or the Hub. I have tried turning off firewalls which so far seems to make no difference. I am running MSE on the Notebook and Defender on the Desk Top.
I've tried so many approaches I'mgoing round in circles.
    Solved!

Here are the GENERAL steps on how to add a wireless printer on your wireless network.
As you have said that it is already connected and visible to the network it is a case of checking the settings below then if ok go to “adding printer to your networked computer” section
The wireless printer must have a static (i.e., manual) IP address assigned to it from your network IP address range. It cannot be DHCP enabled, otherwise every time DHCP assigns a new address, your printer port will stop working.
How to set a manual IP address on your printer:
When the printer is connected to the network the first time, the router will assign an IP address to it. To get the IP address that the printer was assigned, find the printer on your network and right click on it. It will bring up a properties box. The IP address for the printer will be found somewhere in there.
Using an Internet browser, type the IP address of the printer into the address line of the browser and press enter. It should bring up a printer configuration window.
Now, since each printer is different, I can't give you the exact steps, HOWEVER, here's what you are looking for:
Find a Network - TCP/IP configuration menu. Somewhere in that menu, it will give you the choice of setting a manual or static IP address versus a DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) assigned address.
You want to manually set the IP address to the address given on the configuration page. This would normally be 192.168.1.xx. The subnet mask will normally be 255.255.255.0 and the gateway will normally be the IP of the router, usually 192.168.1.254
Once the IP address is assigned permanently to the printer as a static address, you are now ready to add the printer to each computer on your network.
Add the Printer to Your Networked Computers
In Windows XP, follow these steps to add the wireless printer to your computer:
Go to Start, Printers and Faxes.
    Double click on Add Printer
    Click Next.
On the Local or Network Printer dialog box, choose Local Printer and UNCHECK the box that says "Automatically detect" the printer. Click Next.
On the Select a Printer Port window, choose to Create a New Port, and then under Type of Port, choose Standard TCP/IP port. Click Next.
Make sure the printer is On and Ready, and connected to the network. Click Next.
Type in the static IP address of the printer that you set in the steps above. Click Next.
It will then try to connect to that IP address. It you typed it wrong, or the printer is off, it will come back and give you an error.
If all is well, it should then ask you for the printer driver. Either set it to find the driver that you have previously installed or insert the CD for the printer, and find the Windows XP version of the driver.
Then choose the driver you want to install.
Click Next. It will install the driver and ask you to name the printer.
When it is done, click Finish. (You can choose to print a test page if you want).
    Hope this helps.

  • HH3 just received is there a user manual available...

Hi, I'm having Infinity 2 installed Thursday ( hopefully ) but I just wanted to know if there's a full configuration manual for the HH3 available anywhere. I've tried Googling to no avail.
Basically I hope to change the following, after install:
    SSID
    WPA code
    INternal ip address ( from 192.168.1 254 to 192.168.0.254)
I want to set fixed IP addresses to some internal devices such as Printers for which I use IP printing. It'll be easier to be able to set them within their existing .0.254 ranges rather than visiting each PC and changing the printer ip addy.
Also I'd like to not use the Smart wireless thing and set the channel myself. We live in reasonably secluded area and channel 6 has served me well for the last 4 years.
If I can't do all fo this I'll just use my existing Billion 7800N but wanted to give the HH3 a try.
Thanks for any replies and sorry to have droaned on for so long.

    Hi graystreet,
Couldn't find a manual on all the settings but here's the trouble shooting guide (this is the ADSL version, but most apply to you as well) BT Home Hub 3 - BT Total Broadband troubleshooting guide (self installed)
Also I have done some quick steps for you:
    Key:
    > is Go To
Letters in Bold are the menu titles to click on
    1) Logging into your HomeHub 3 for the first time
To get to your HH's GUI you can either go to http://bthomehub.home or http://192.168.1.254 or http://api.home
Once you have opened up the GUI then it will ask you to re create a password to prevent your settings being changed without permission. Follow the onscreen instructions on how to find your default Admin password (found on the plastic pullout card on the back of the homehub) and create a new password.
If your HH gets reset the you will need to do this process again.
    2) Changing SSID & Changing WPA2 Wireless Key aswell as Wifi Channels
SETTINGS > ADVANCED SETTINGS ( click continue to advanced settings) > Wireless
Here you can change the SSID and Wireless Key as well as the Wifi Channel
    3) Changing DHCP IP Range
SETTINGS > ADVANCED SETTINGS ( click continue to advanced settings) >HOME NETWORK > IP ADDRESSES
You can select what range you want. I think there is already a predefined setting in that page to set the range to
    172.16.0.64 - 172.16.255.254
If your HomeHubs does get reset then all the settings will go back to defualt
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers

  • HH3 Broadband blue light not working with Power Sa...

Had a BT engineer here today to do a line check and DLM reset when he noticed the blue lights were out, so I told him they were disabled in the powersave mode via the HH Manager at that time.It wasn't till he'd gone I realised he meant the Broadband light was out, which I simply hadn't noticed. This got me wondering if my fairly recent speed problems could be related with drop offs and such, but the engineer didn't persue the blue light issue earlier.
I rang BT to enquire about a replacement HH3, and was quoted £10 with £6 postage, because the warranty had run out on the hub, as well as me being out of contract.
It sounds about right but can anyone here confirm please?

Also - I need to add that the printer is sitting about an inch away from the Mac.

  • HH3 Time Settings

So, I set up the power saving option to turn off wifi between 02:00 and 07:00 and thought nothing more of it.  However this morning, at 07:30 my son urgently needed to print a document off before travelling to Blackpool.  Once he discovered he didn't have wifi connectivity, I checked the HH3 to find the broadband and wireless lights off.
Thinking i had put the wrong timings in, I entered the hubs settings to find the actual timestamp wrong.  The default setting is for the hub to use internet data to set the time automatically, linked to ntp.homehub.btopenworld.com.
This sets GMT and does not appear to take account of BST, as the clock showed 06:35 wheras the 'real' time was 07:35.
I have changed the settings to manual, but why should it not be possible to choose a correct time zone.  After all the B in BT does stand for British, doesn't it?
    Steve

I think the B stands for Bangalore ~ though you'd get an even odder time on a 1/2 boundary from there.

  • HH3 wireless drop outs

Hi have had Infinity for some 6 months and quite happy would like the NAT loop back in the HH3 but the problem I have now is both my wireless printer and Wii will not keep connected, I have to turn the printer of and back on every time I want to print Not much point having a wireless for the whole house. and the Wii box needs me to log into the HH3 page and to delete the Wii in the network devices so that it can re-connect.
I read on here that some people have a Type B router is this just a software update or do I need a replacement router???
I have to say I have had issue since changing from BeThere with the printer as on there router it stayed on line all the time but now it is every time and the Wii box now doing this suggest that it is breaking down.
One further point when we have more than 4 items on wireless in the house at any one time the wireless drops out lots of time and then takes some time to even show up it is as if the wireless chip is restarting, a wired connection is fine.
Any advice or help would be great.
Thanks and Happy New Year to you all.
