Printers not showing up on leopard managed machine

I'm trying to use WGM to set up specific printers to show up for specific machines and users and no matter whenever i specify which printers to have added to the managed machine / users the printers don't show up. Am i missing something?
Thanks.

I have seen this, too. Keep in mind one thing:
Are you SURE the Mac cant see the printers? I have noticed that sometimes CUPS still sees the printers but the Apple GUI tools like the Print & Fax pref pane cant see the printers.
As a test do these things and reply back:
1) Open an app and print a file. Do you see printers under the "printer" menu?
nope
2) Type this command on the client:
"lpstat -t"
See any printers?
nope
3) Look in this folder on the managed client:
~/Library/Printers
What do you see?
nothing
4) Open a browser and go here on the managed client:
http://localhost:631/printers/
What do you see?
nothing
Questions:
1) Are the printers just stand-alone network printers without a print server (are you printing direct to them or going through a print server)? If you print direct, what are the protocols you are using? LPR? AppleTalk? IPP?
Yes they are just standalone HP printers and they support LPR and IPP, i've tried both and neither work
2) If you DO have print servers, what protocols are the queues hosted with? IPP? LPR? SMB? What OS is the printer server running? OS X? Windows? Linux?
I have followed the documentation on how to put those printers into leopards printer and fax pane and enabled printer pools in server admin. i then try to add using WGM those printers and they don't show up.
3) Is Bonjour involved in any way?
nope
4) Is your OD server and the clients all running 10.5 (Leopard)?
yes
5) Are other policies working OK?
yep all except the printer ones.

  • Some videos are semi-missing - they do not show up in File Manager apps or another app

I have what I will call three FILER apps: File Browser, Air Browser and File Commander.  I also have MovieSRTPlayer.  Those apps appear to not register the presence of some video files that I have definitely copied to my PB.  The MovieSRTPlayer will overlay a .srt file's text over a video allowing the pb to show subtitles.  It works as long as it can find the video and srt files.
I am definitely transferring a series of video files to the pb's video folder.  I am also transferring a companion file to that folder.  The companion file is a subtitle file in the form of an .SRT file.
THREE file manager type apps do NOT show those files as present in the video folder.  The Video app itself does show and play those video files.
I have copied the files using both wifi-sharing and when they did not show up that way, I copied them using the usb cable to the pb's Z: drive and the video folder.
As stated the dam! files play in the video app.  But they do not appear in the various filer apps.  And they also do not show in another app, one that will display the subtitle (.srt file) file overlaying the video.  In all instances it is as if the pb does not register the presence of those files on the pb.
Now, what is interesting is that when this first cropped up, 7 files were missing - just a mix of video (no .srt files involved).  That is they showed in the video app and played but the filer programs did not show them.  I managed last night and this morning to get 7 of those to finally show by copying/moving/deleting and recopying.  But now I'm running into this brick wall again.  I have repeatedly copied two video (avi files) and their companion .srt files to the video folder.  They are in that folder (I've looked using usb and wifi-sharing) and they play in the PB's video app.  They are most certainly on my pb.
Oh, and yes, I've rebooted a number of times.
    Ideas?

I have what I call 3 file manager apps.  File Browser, Air Browser and File Commander (the older free version).
They all show or don't show the same thing.  So files are missing.  And SIZE is not the sole determining factor.  When I was testing MovieSRT and "lost" some files I copied and renamed avi and .srt files.  So there are two extra .srt files in the Video folder.  But while they are 32kb (kilobytes) and 58kb respectively, they do NOT show up in the File managers.  The other two identical files with the names matching the .avi files do show up.  The one very large mp4 (2gb) does not show up.  A subfolder I created just as a test does not show up.  But the large mp4 and subfolder were showing up while I was actively copying the 2gb file - they would show up as the file was being copied - the filemanagers showed the file getting larger and larger and while doing so the "missing" subfolder also kept showing up.  Then once the large file was completely copied, both it and the subfolder "disappeared" - again, the large mp4 does show in the Video app and it plays.
My persistence probably is based on the fact I was a computer programmer many eons ago!  Also, I was trying to get YOUR app to work and the avi files were not showing up in your listing but they were showing and playing in Video app (but no subtitles).  Finally, after copying/moving/re-copying over and over including moving and copying to the PB's Print folder (just since it was empty) and copying it back to the video folder (now 2 copies), the files would finally show up.  Peculiar - yup!
Oh, one other thing - the 3 file managers all show what I will call the virtual Playbook-Demo video in their listings - your app does NOT show it.  Obviously, it is not located in the Video Folder but somewhere in the bowels of the PB.  So, the filemanagers  are relying on some "file structure" that is not fully correct.  But your app does not appear to show it.

Yes the issue in 11.1.2.1 should be fixed in 11.1.2.2
The 11.1.2.2 Readme has it in the list of defects fixed:

    regards

    Thanks Mylenium,
I appreciate the response. I was confused because precisely I own the full CS6 Production Premium and Encore is there, I was unaware that it was deprecated in CC. Oh well...also I remember Adobe Story in Creative Cloud last year did show up so I was confused as to why it was not showing up now.
So Adobe Story is only cloud based now? hmmm...not sure how I feel about that one.
Anyway, thanks for the reply and all my best.

  • Printers not showing in Print Management on Local Server

Fresh Server 2012 R2 VM on Hyper-V setup as a print server only.  It allows me to add printers and they show up in the Control Panel in Devices and Printers, but they don't show up in Print Management under server (local). Ports and drivers show up.

  • AD Users not showing up in Workgroup Manager

Hi, I'm configuring a new installation of 10.4 server on an Intel Xserve to integrate with an already existing AD domain and provide group policies to Mac users via OD.
So far, the install has been so smooth, fast, and simple. The Xserve has been joined to the AD domain, Kerberos is running, and I have an active OpenDirectory Master.
Now, when I go to Workgroup Manager, the users in the AD domain do not show up and if I try to authenticate with the same username and password I used to bind to the domain I get the error "The login information is not valid for this server". Also, if I use dscl I can navigate to "/Active Directory/All Domains/Users" but if I try to run ls I get "ls: DS error: eDSCannotAccessSession".

    Hi Tim
You are almost there but not quite.
Firstly its not important if the AD Server does not have a reverse pointer. As long as the OD Master does that should be enough. Ultimately it would be better if there was one configured but there is not much you can do about that is there? I doubt very much if the AD Admin is going to want to fiddle with a 'live' DC's DNS Service if its likely to affect his domain?
What I generally do is this:
Make sure SMB Digital Signing is Not Enabled on the AD Server. There should be at least two places where this has to be disabled. If the 'powers that be' have defined SMB Digital Signing then SFM (Services For Macintosh) must be installed. If its 'nada' to both then you will be severely limited in integrating OSX Server and mac clients with AD. Yes of course make sure there is an (A) and Reverse PTR for the mac server. Next bind all mac clients to the AD Server and make sure the AD Server is listed first for Authentication and Contacts, also make sure mac clients are using the AD for authentication. Test and verify a mac client to see if (a) home folders are created and accessed and that mac clients successfully log in. You sometimes don't get the two.
Now turn your attention to OSX Server. Make sure you have (a) reserved a fixed IP address for it in the AD's DHCP Service and you have placed the AD's IP address as the primary IP address in the DNS Server's field in the Network Preferences Pane (b) tested DNS fully and that OS X Server resolves correctly on the forward and reverse pointers for itself. Now bind OSX Server to the AD using the Active Directory plug in in Directory Access and an AD admin account that has authority for the Domain. Launch Workgroup Manager and you should see AD Users and Groups have 'flowed' into the /Active Directory/All Domains node. Quit out of WGM and launch Server Admin. Enable the AFP Service and set the authentication method to Any Method. Select Open Directory and change the Role from Standalone to Open Directory Master. You will be prompted to create the default Directory Administrator account diradmin (UID 1000). You should see the Kerberos Realm and search base fields autofill with the fqdn of the Server. Change both of these to reflect the fqdn of the AD Server. For example if the fqdn of your mac server is osxserver.addomain.com and the windows server is adserver.addomain.com then change the information presented in thos fields to ADSERVER.ADDOMAIN.COM and dc=adserver,dc=addomain,dc=com. As you can see you should only need to change the first part. Click OK or Continue and you should now have an OD Master that is not the KDC (Kerberos has been stopped). This is the state you want it be in before going any further. You can now 'kerberize' the AFP Service you started previously by selecting the kerberize button and using the same AD admin account you used to previously bind the server to the AD. To doublecheck if the AFP Service has been kerberized launch terminal and issue:
    sudo kadmin.local -q list_principals
You should see an entry for [email protected] amongst others.
Now launch Directory Access and make sure the server's loopback address is listed in the LDAPv3 plug in. Make sure that the server is listed first in the Authentication and Contacts fields. Quit out of Server Admin and launch WGM. Navigate to the /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 node and you should see diradmin waiting for you. Open another connection window in WGM and navigate to the /Active Directory/All Domains node. When you authenticate the /LDAPv3 node you use diradmin, when you authenticate the /Active Directory node you use the AD admin account. Create a Group in the /LDAPv3 node select the + icon and toggle between the two nodes as you select users or groups and add them to your /LDAPv3 node. Once you are happy select a preference to manage, apply desired changes and save the changes. This is better done on a client machine with the Server applications installed.
Back to your mac clients. Begin to join these to the LDAP node using the LDAPv3 plug in in Directory Access. Use the Server's IP Address or its FQDN if the DHCP Server is also doling out DNS information to networked clients. Its IP address should be good enough. Don't bother with authenticated binding and make sure clients are not using the OD master for authentication and contacts. Lastly make sure the Active Directory/All Domains and the /LDAPv3/OD Master IP address or fqdn are in that order for browsed directories.
Its best if you have a secure local admin account on all your mac clients and that each mac is named differently. Set this in the Sharing Preferences Pane.
Begin to test. If everything is OK you should now have mac clients logging into home directories controlled by AD as well as OD Managed Preferences being applied.
One final thing. Avoid using .local as the basis for the DNS Service. I realise in your environment you have no control over that. In which case make sure all mac clients have the AD's .local domain name in the Search Domains field in the Network Preferences Pane. If your clients have Leopard installed you should not have to bother as Leopard copes with .local name resolution better than previous versions of the OS.
As ever how successful you are and how long it takes will depend mostly on how well the AD is configured. There is no magic bullet that can be used on the mac side to fix a poorly configured AD environment. If everything is as it should be regarding the AD Server it should not take you longer than 10-20 minutes (after server installation) for the server and possibly 2-3 minutes for each client. It really should not take that long.
    Does this help?
    Tony

    1. did you create an iprint manager or did the install?. If you create
your own one you'll run into this issue.
    2. Did you import the printers from another iprint system or did you
create them on the appliance? if you import them, you'll see issue
    mentioned below

  • Graphics Card Does Not Show Up In Device Manager (Re: Installing AMD Video Drivers - Windows 8.1 (Step-By-Step Tutorial)

This tutorial is a step-by-step tutorial on how to "fix" issues of a new graphics card not appearing in Windows 8.1 Pro, or not appearing (as a device) in Device Manager, or it's not being detected by Windows 8.1.
This is the "second part" of a Step-by-Step Tutorial on how to install AMD Radeon graphics card drivers in Windows 8.1 Pro.
GRAPHICS CARD IS NOT DETECTED AND DOES NOT SHOW UP IN WINDOWS 8.1 DEVICE MANAGER
This problem can appear if the video card is not installed properly in the PCI slot and as a result the card is not detected in device manager. Check the physical connections again, reinsert the card properly in the PCI slot, check the connections (including the power cables going to the video card, and ensure that the fan on the graphics card is spinning and the card does have power and is properly seated/inserted) and then install the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
If the video card is in fact installed properly, but the problem of the video card not being discovered/found by the operating system persists, then try these following methods below to check if this solves the problem.
    Method 1:
First, I would suggest you to run the following Microsoft Fixit to get the problem automatically detected and fixed. This Microsoft "fixit" App checks if the device is currently disabled or turned off or the driver is not installed.
Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows.
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us
    Method 2:
Sometimes, some devices in device manager are hidden due to corrupt or missing drivers.
Follow the steps below to show hidden devices in the device manager and troubleshoot accordingly.
Press the Windows key + X
    Select Command Prompt (Admin)
Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit enter
Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC and hit enter.
Once in Device Manager hit the View menu and select show hidden devices.
From here, remove each instance of the AMD or Nvidia card you see as well as each unknown device. Exit Device Manager and reinstall the latest drivers you can find for your graphics card.
After you install the drivers, reboot and see if you get any different results.
If the above solved your problems and the Graphics Card is now working and is now being properly detected/displayed in Windows Device Manager:
If your graphics card is now being detected by Windows 8.1 in Device Manager, but has a "yellow exclamation" mark (or video drivers are not found or not properly installed or the device is disabled) then install the latest graphics card drivers and proceed with this Step-by-Step Tutorial on how to install AMD Radeon graphics card drivers in Windows 8.1 Pro.

  • Photoshop CC 2014 not showing in the Extension Manager

    Hi,
I'm having trouble installing an extension for Photoshop 2014. PS 2014 is not showing up in my extension manager, which makes it impossible to install extensions. I've tried uninstalling the extension manager a few times but to no avail.
How do I get CS 2014 to show up in the Extension Manager? I'm really missing my Guide Guide extension, I'm using Photoshop CS until this issue is fixed.
    Has anyone had similar troubles?
    Many thanks.

Thanks... I grabbed it (all of them, actually) but now I'm having trouble installing them (not an Adobe problem, I don't think; they recently changed a bunch of security protocols here and I think that's what's preventing me from running the updater).
I am curious, though: if there was an update to the Extension Manager (and there were FIVE of them) why does my Creative Cloud app tell me that I'm up to date????

  • My wireless adapter is not showing in my device manager under network adaptors

    I have a Pavilion, model p6210f with Windows 7
I have used it for 2 years with an ethernet cable and now I need it to go wireless, however, no wireless adpater is showing in the device manager under network adaptors, only showing the LAN.
Checking the specifications for this model at the hp website, it should have a 56K Win Modem.
Don't know what to do except go buy a USB Wireless adaptor, any ideas?
Called tech support, but I was given no assistance.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs for your PC.

The PC does not come with wireless networking capability - only a wired ethernet adapter and a dial up modem.
The easiest thing to do is to purchase and external USB wireless network adapter.
Below is a link which will give you plenty of choices to consider. Look at the reviews and buy one that best suits your needs. You will of course, also need a wireless networking router.
