[Printers] scp-dbus-service trouble

The issue I am having is described (but not solved, unfortunately) here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … g/1156398/
The TL;DR of the issue is that scp-dbus-service is creating hundreds of thousands of files in my tmp directory, which very quickly makes my system unusable. It also seems to make printing spotty at best.
I am using an HP LaserJet M1217nfw MFP, and my CUPS is version 2.0.0-1.
My ideal solution would be if there were some clean way to forward everything to my Windows machine and let it take care of the dirty work, as Linux support is not a strong point for HP. How much of this "stuff" can I push off to Windows?
If none of that would help, does anyone here have any ideas as to other potential workarounds/fixes? While I don't REALLY need to print and scan from this machine, it would definitely make my life a lot easier.

BLESS YOUR BUNS!!! Finally I'm making some progress with CUPS reinstall.
Discovered this morning I had no printers on Intel Mac after update. Already tried all of Apple's solutions before I found your post. No go. Even lost Adobe PDF printer. Could not re-add any printers, either, due to error message.
Now, at least, I'm able to add again. Was able to print via drag-and-drop file from desktop onto queue. Can print from browser.
Do not know how to add Adobe PDF as printer again (Distiller). May need re-install from CDs?
Still cannot print from InDesign CS2. Print window does not ever open. However, CAN print from Illustrator, which I thought would use same print protocol/engine/whatever as InDesign. Apparently NOT...

  • [SOLVED] defect dbus service, systemd is unable to create socket

    Hi,
    I am experiencing serious problems with systemd & dbus.
    I want to setup a gateway in a KVM VM, all was working fine till i applied my shorewall config & set to autostart (systemctl enable shorewall).
    If I reboot the machine after this step one or two times, then I get a broken dbus service.
    What I did than: reinstalled archlinux again (x86_x64) and setup same -> got issue again.
    installed arch linux as x86 and setup same -> issue again
    installed arch as x86 and configured nothing else shorewall and got this issue again after maximum of two reboots.
    i found in log:

    oh man... found the reason due to help of some guys on systemd irc... big thx to falconindy and alxchk.
    shorewall's SUBSYSLOCK option in shorewall.conf is by default set to /var/lock/shorewall.
    but the arch wiki point that it should be set to /var/run: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Router
    definitely wrong! that deletes the /var/run symlink and created a directory intstead.
    to set the SUBSYSLOCK on default is working like a charm.
    look also for this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151285
    could somebody modify the wiki in the meantime, i will hold this thread on -not-solved in the meantime
    edit:/ oh man this wrong info in wiki did cost me a lot of time :-/

  • Deleted Printers & server-error-service-unavailable error

    If anyone is having trouble with this after updating to OS X 10.4.8. I updated to 10.4.8 on 5 different macs and every single one of them had this problem. This might have been discussed here before, but I thought I should make it known along with the solution to the problem. Here goes.
    You could waste your time going through repairing permissions and trying to delete and create folders using Apple's method. None of them work at all, but it does have something to do with CUPS. The best solution is to just go here, download the new stable CUPS version, and install. This will fix the problem completely. Your printers will come back along with their respected spools. Make sure you have access to an admin account before doing so. Otherwise bug your system admin to do it for you. No UNIX commands to fool with, no BS. Just a simple install. You don't even need to reboot. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

  • DBus service error after a fresh install

    Hi!
    I have a freshly installed Archlinux system. The dbus-org service seems to be reporting an error and I am not sure
    $ systemctl status dbus-org
    dbus-org.service
    Loaded: error (Reason: No such file or directory)
    Active: inactive (dead)
    I am not seeing any side effects to this though. DBus has to be working since systemd is using it. I am also running Gnome 3 which also needs DBus to run.
    Still, I'm curious if anybody has seen this and could help investigating the source of this error message.
    Thanks!

    murb wrote:
    I think the service is called dbus. Try:
    $ systemctl status dbus
    Wow ok. Dbus is working. I've been mislead in thinking dbus-org would be valid and though the "No such file or directory" error was coming out of dbus. It is actually systemctl telling me it can't find a file/service matching dbus-org.
    Thanks!

  • Disable dbus services without native systemd service available

    Quite a few services are not activated manually, but through dbus. Say you wanted to disable some (enough valid reasons, using DE apps in WM environments, temporary until bug X is fixed, or a workaround for quirks like default file manager in Firefox). If the service file in /usr/share/dbus-1/... contains a line SystemdService=<something>, then it's easy enough:
    # systemctl mask <sth>.service
    # systemctl mask <sth>.socket
    which links the requests to /dev/null (quite loudly though).
    Anyway say the dbus file doesn't have a matching unit, you could do a few things. First is obviously delete or modify the dbus file in /usr/share/.., you can then chattr it or ignore it in pacman.conf but it still breaks package integrity (pacman -kk). Looking through the dbus-daemon man gives:
    <servicedir>
    Adds a directory to scan for .service files. [..] systemwide bus.
    <standard_session_servicedirs/>
    is equivalent to specifying a series of <servicedir/> elements for each of the data directories in the "XDG Base Directory Specification" with the subdirectory "dbus-1/services", so for example "/usr/share/dbus-1/services" would be among the directories searched. [..]
    The <standard_session_servicedirs/> option is only relevant to the per-user-session bus daemon defined in /etc/dbus-1/session.conf. Putting it in any other configuration file would probably be nonsense.
    <standard_system_servicedirs/>
    <standard_system_servicedirs/> specifies the standard system-wide activation directories that should be searched for service files. This option defaults to /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services.
    The <standard_system_servicedirs/> option is only relevant to the per-system bus daemon defined in /etc/dbus-1/system.conf. Putting it in any other configuration file would probably be nonsense.
    Ok, so I tried to put files in /etc/dbus-1/services but they didn't take priority. Also tried to specify the paths explicitely in /etc/dbus-1/system-local.conf but no luck either. Also tried ~/.local/share/dbus-1/services - but e.g gvfs would still start after changing Exec to /bin/false.
    There's a few bug reports/requests on this, e.g (1). So my question is, am I missing something, or do you need a systemd unit, or go "dirty" and modify system files?
    Cheers

    The first post is too long... Let me update the status with a new post.
    The user service file currently looks like this:
    # [email protected]
    [Unit]
    Description=Intelligent Input Bus
    Documentation=man:ibus-daemon(1)
    [Service]
    Environment="DISPLAY=%I"
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/ibus-daemon --replace --xim --panel disable
    ExecReload=/usr/bin/ibus restart
    ExecStop=/usr/bin/ibus exit
    [Install]
    WantedBy=default.target
    And you can enable it for the current DISPLAY via
    % systemctl --user enable "ibus@$DISPLAY.service"
    DISPLAY must be set for the --xim option to work.
    According to systemd.exec(5), "processes started by user systemd instances inherit all environment variables from the user systemd instance". But at the time the user systemd instance is started, the DISPLAY env is not set yet, so I'm using the %I place holder here.
    Although there doesn't seem to be much benefit, I still wonder why Type=dbus doesn't work. Is systemd looking for the wrong bus?

  • Shared services trouble shooting

    Hi
    I installed the 9.3.1 on my machine...mistakenly my machine was shutdown and openLDAP service was corrupted , I do have back-up of shared services folder so I replace the regular SS folderr with that. Now the problem was I am unable to see the Hyperion planning , Reports, Business rules to provision . I do have only shared serrvices>glodal rules, So I again registered planning ,reports ,EAS with shared services using config utility..but I am not succeed..Is there any way to view all of them in the provision list.So that I can provision to different users.I I didn't configure again (after ldap corruption)anything under shared services of config utility.but the funny thing I am able to login in to planning as admin, but I am unable to see it in the shared services provision list... Can anyone tell me what exactly happend in the background of this.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Have you tried running the sync option in shared services, this syncs shared services repository with open ldap.
    Administration > Sync Native Directory.
    I am not how succesful it will be now you have been registering and provisioning again but worth a try.

  • [SOLVED] Removing systemctl service trouble

    Hello
    During installation I followed the instructions below:
    cd /etc/netctl
    cp examples/wireless-wpa my-network
    to create a config for my wireless network. The problem I have now is that I have since renamed that file to not include the "-" character, but the systemctl unit remains:
    netctl@my\x2dnetwork.service enabled
    I would like to remove it. However, running
    systemctl disable netctl@my\x2dnetwork.service
    Does not work. Its still there, listed as active. Running
    systemctl disable [email protected]
    Does not work either. How can I get rid of it?

    "does not work"? What happened, what was the output? systemctl tells you when it removes symlinks, but if the service is not enabled, it will do nothing. And disable does not stop the service, so it should be no surprise that it is still active. What would be interesting is whether is it also still listed as "enabled".
    I think systemctl didn't output anything and the service is indeed still enabled, because when you use a shell to run that command, you need to prevent the shell from treating the backslash as an escape character, otherwise you're disabling the service named "[email protected]" and that one was never enabled in the first place. Escape the backslash using another backslash (my\\x2dnetwork) or put single quotes around in.

  • Phone services: troubles with 7985 ip phones

    We developed three queries on our Microsoft Active Directory, customizating the ASP pages in Cisco SDK.
    They worked fine about one year, but from few days they fail on 7985 phones only.
    The message is:
    Error Parsing Service
    HTTP 403: Forbidden
    Error, unable to display service.
    Of course we didn't update the CCM (rel 5.0.4) or the phone firmware (4.1.4.0) or the IIS (I watched IIS logs and I think that the call is stopped before arriving to the web server).
    No alert in CM logs.
    I tried to restart the CM service and it didn't fix.
    Any idea?

    Thanks Chad.
    I installed the firmware last release (4-1-6-0) It didn't fix, but the message is changed:

  • New Service Troubles below not resolved in private session

    My earlier post was marked as resolved in private session, but in reality I feel I was blown off. The service case was closed without the option to provide additional information regarding my situation.
    I was told that even though I have a fiber trunk cable on my property does not quarentee service. I can understand that, but the response continues to say that I can not get service because I would need to have a junction box off that line and we're sorry that we can not provide service. Case closed.
    I found no means to reopen the case to respond. If so, then I would have responded to say that yes there is a junction box providing fiber to the next residence.
    So back to my original question: if I have a fiber line and a junction box providing service to the property next to me on my property, then should I not be able to have access too?

    Based on what I am seeing, which is nothing. Responding to a closed case does not reopen it. The lack of response clearly indicates no initiative to understand, resolve my issue or give me a reasonable answer to why I can not get service.
    I'm looking for service....obviously Verizon has no interest in gaining me as a customer. The support systems in place are combersome, ineffective and just **bleep** people off.
    Without the ability to get some type of service, which clearly is present, I have no choice but to go to a sat phone which means I no longer need my verizon wireless phone. So not only did Verizon not gain additional paid services, they lost a customer.

  • PhotoShop Upgrade Customer Service Trouble

    Has anybody found a magic way to get customer service help? I have been waiting since last Tuesday for my problem to be resolved and I've been getting absolutely no understanding or willingness to take ownership of my problem.  I have chatted online with 8 different people. Each time making painstaking attemts to explain the situation as being different than the "free upgrade" window that is posted on adobe.com.
    Here is the situation.
    Adobe said that we MUST upgrade to CS5 in order to upgrade to CS6.
    In February, I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 based on item 1.
    I went online last week to upgrade to CS6 from CS5 when I saw that I didn't have to spend the money to upgrade from CS4 to CS5 afterall.
    Based on that, I feel I should be able to upgrade to CS6 without having to pay an addition $199.00.
    Adobe said I had to upgrade so I did. That cost me $199.00 three months ago.
    Now Adobe wants me to spend another $199.00 to get CS6.
    I will not do that. I wouldn't have spent the first $199.00 if Adobe hadn't said it was necessary. It wasn't necessary afterall so I shouldn't be penalized for believing Adobe.
    This is like the guy who's told he has a week to live so he gives away all of his earthly belongings. Then the doctor tells him he didn't mean it.
    Now, On Wednesday, I got my request elevated to "concern group". They will contact me within 72 hours. That must be 72 business hours because I have not been concated.
    So, Monday, I had to go through the entire scenerio for the umteenth time and again was assured the "concern group" would contact me withing 24 hours. I didn't believe the rep, based on my previous lack of contact and asked how I can contact the "concern group" myself so I don't have to go through this entire process again. The "concern group" is offline, no way to contact them but "I ASSURE YOU" you will hear from them withing 24 hours. Well, 48 hours later, I'm totally in a very hateful mood. I opened another chat session and rather than submitting that person on the other end to my venom, I just pasted my chat from Monday and said goodbye. Of couse, it's not going to do any good either.
    I saw a message board online yesterday, and today I can't find it, where people in my same situation received their upgrade to CS6 with no addition cost.
    I know it's being done but Customer service is so...aggravating that I believe it's a way to make people just give up and go away. Not this time.

    I have a buddy who used to be a PA to our then Minister for Education. He once told me that if they got a letter with a complaint or similar, policy was to ignore it for as long as possible, and then pick out and address the most trivial item in that letter, and completely ignore the rest. They knew that the complainant would get fed up and give up before they would.
    It would be naïve not to believe such a strategy was widely used in all walks of life. Bill Gates actually spelled it out with the first of his Eleven Rules of Life:

    I have the same Issue, I have been trying to get it resolved for a while now, but the live customer support is terrible, I feel like they don't read the initial question and it frustrates me how I am constantly asked questions about my question that is CLEARLY covered in the initial Question. I Have been on hold on the phone for some time now, if I get this resolved I will post an answer. It does disgust me how adobe are slowly parring the technical support over to its users.

  • EP Web Services trouble

    What might be the reason of this:
    =================================
    Creation of the SOAP Connection Factory Error.
    javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Unable to create SOAP Element Factory: Unable to create SOAP Factory: Provider com.systinet.saaj.soap.SOAPFactoryImpl not found
    ===================================
    Best regards,

    Try the following in your pars before creating anything related to the WS:
    Class.forName("com.systinet.saaj.soap.SOAPFactoryImpl");
    (Or call this line during remote debugging)
    This ensures that it is really the class that is missing/unreachable at runtime which causes the error. If this fails with a ClassNotFoundError in a single server, the server is definitely different. You might want to compare the <jdk_home>/jre/lib/ext and <jdk_home>/lib/ext folders, as well as the system class path.
