Printing from Epson driver on a different brand of paper

On the Epson driver, media type option has options just for Epson papers. I want to print on a paper from a different brand. Selecting a profile for this different paper from the mode menu is bypassing that media type options - for example when the "Epson Premium Semigloss" is selected from the media type menu, if I choose a Hahnemühle profile from the mode box, is this Hahnemühle profile bypassing Epson paper choice selected from the media type option?

The Media Type setting and the Profile choice are two separate things. The Media Type setting sets the optimum amount of ink laydown for that type of media. When you're using Epson paper, they've tested that model printer with that paper to come up with the best starting point for making the paper profile.
When you're using a non Epson, third party paper in your printer, you will never find Media choices to match. What you will find are recommendations from the third party manufacturers on which Epson media choice settings are the closest for your paper/printer combo. If you're making your own profiles, you need to know this to choose the right setting before printing your target. If you're using, say, a canned profile from Hahnenmühle, you need to choose the same media type setting they used when making the profile in order for that profile to be valid.
So, to be clear, you need to do two things when printing to a third party paper. 1. You have to choose the correct media type according to what the third party manufacturer recommends, and 2. You have to choose the correct media profile for the paper you're printing on. One does not override the other. They work in concert to give you the best (hopefully) print possible.

  • Epson 740 Inkjet won't print from Epson Driver!

    Hi All,
I've just recently upgraded to Tiger, from Jaguar, and all was well...until today! My colour printer is an Epson Stylus 740 and it was printing perfectly yesterday but now the all jobs are "Stopped"!
If I click on "Start Jobs" the progress bar appears then, after a couple of seconds, vanishes and I'm back to "Jobs Stopped" with the file still in the print queue. That's it! No other indication of a fault or problem.
I have now configured the printer via Gimp Print (V5.0.0) and it works fine. So the printer is ok but I'd like to use the Epson driver as I'm used to it and know how to get the results I want.
If this was OS 9 I'd suspect a corrupted file in the spool folder but, even though I've used OS X for years, I don't even know if there still is a spool folder! I certainly can't find one.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    John

There are tons of posts on similar problems in this forum. Do a search for stopped jobs and you'll see. There are a lot of suggested fixes, it sounds like some work for some people and not for others. Also, although it sounds like it's usually Epson printers, it's not always. And it's all different models. I have an Epson Stylus CX6600. I haven't had a chance to try all the fixes yet, but one that did work for a couple months for me was this:
Before printing, go into your application's "Page setup" option and make sure that the "Format for" says your printer and not "Any printer." I'm not sure why this works but it's even on the Epson tech support website in their troubleshooter. You will have to do this for every application and it quit working for me after I updated to 10.4.5, but maybe it could be a temporary fix for you as well.
Please post if you come up with a more permanent solution!

  • Issues printing from Epson R2400.

I ran Aperture 2.1.2 with an Epson Stylus R2400 printer. I have used this setup without problems in the past. Yet, a few days ago I updated the Epson driver to version x.x (download file from Epson epson12491.dmg). Since then I have not been able to print.
*Detailed issue*: when I print, the information leaves Aperture and makes it to the queue. It promptly leaves the queue and it never makes it to the printer. The printer show no sign if having received the information (no blinking green light).
    *Additional Information*:
    (1) I can get it to print from Text Edit, but not from Aperture.
    (2) I tried from both computers (Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro, with the same results.
    (3) I have deleted all printers and reset print information.
    (4) I was successful printing with the prior version (yes.. I know! I wonder why I updated!).
    (5) I can print from both computer to other printes (both from within Aperture and from other applications).
    (6) I have tried printing through Firewire directly attached to computer, USB in same conditions and USB through Apple Router. In the past I could print from any if these scenarios.
I called Epson, and as soon as I was able to print from another app, they disengaged. Any suggestions will be gladly appreciated. Thanks SO much. Martin.

I can suggest reverting to your older Epson print driver.
You have to uninstall the printer driver, by running the Epson installer and choosing uninstall.
Then Install your original printer driver, you should have the original Epson CD.

  • Problems printing from Epson Stylus Pro 700

I just upgraded to CS4. Now I can't print from Adobe Indesign on my Epson Stylus Pro 7800. It will print from photoshop. I upgraded the printer driver, but that didn't help. Other applications such as Word will print. When I click on the printer monitor, it says printer ready. The print job is "stopped." When I click on resume it says "Operation could not be completed." What can I do to fix this?
    Kate

Yes, I've contacted epson. At first the computer wouldn't recognize that the 7800 printer was attached. My 1400 printer was working. I replaced the firewire cable on the 7800, per instructions from Epson, with a USB. That fixed the first problem. Then when I was printing in Adobe, I couldn't choose a paper type. We tried downloading a driver upgrade, and running disk utility(Epson tech still). That fixed that problem. Now I can choose a paper type in the print dialogue box, but when I tell the printer to print, the dialogue box says printing stopped. If I select resume, It tells me client error, not possible. I also spent about an hour on the phone with Adobe trying to solve this problem. Epson says it's an Adobe problem, and Adobe says it's an Epson problem! Currently, I can print in photoshop and indesign, but not pdf files on either printer. On Friday, at some point, I was able to print pdfs, but not photoshop or InDesign. Unfortunately I didn't write down exactly when that was, as I didn't realize at that time, that I wouldn't be able to print pdfs later on. I appreciate any help you can give me.

  • Problems Printing from Epson 2400 in Lightroom 2.3

I'm in the process of switching over from a PC to a Mac. I've gotten lightroom running and transfered all my photos over. But I'm having two big problems printing from my Epson 2400.
*8.5x11 prints are offset. The top of the picture starts about an inch lower than it should, and the bottom typically gets cut off.
*Lightroom refuses to print 4x6 prints. It says it's printing, and the paper feeds in, but then the printer just spits out a blank page.
I'm using the most current version of the Epson 2400 driver that I could find on the Epson web site.
[Update] I used iPhoto 9 to print out some pictures, and they came out fine. So this seems to be a lightroom issue or a conflict between the lightroom/epson drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Further update. It appears that I can print perfectly from another account on the same mac. But the account on which my catalog resides doesn't work at all. Could my catalog have been corrupted when I transfered my photos and catalog over to the new mac from the pc? Is there any way that I can fix it? (I have tried optimize and relaunch; no luck.)
I could -- as a last restort -- kill the catalog and reimport all my thousands of photos, but wouldn't I loose the keywords and adjustments?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when I try to print from Epson R2400

    Hi,
For no reason that I can see, when I try to print from my Epson R2400, Photoshop CS3 crashes.
It was working fine up to yesterday with no issues.
I have re installed the drivers etc but no use.
I also cannot choose Printer Manages Colors, as it is now greyed out.
When the the Printer dialogue opens and I click on the Page Set up I get the Error that "Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close"
    Any ideas please?

    Thanks for the replies.
I understand now that the procedure is probably the reason.
I was just experimenting as LAB colours are colours we see through our eyes, while RGB, CMYK etc are "computer" colours and so I use LAB colours a lot, before switching back to RGB.
I normally switch to LAB mode and click on the Lightness channel, then play with adjustments of that channel. This time I decided to mess around and see what would happen if I removed all channels except the Lightness one....
Converting to greyscale for me is not enough unfortunately and LAB B+W provides much better contrast and tone than hitting CTRL+Shift+U to greyscale.
Again, I understand what you say, my point being though that Photoshop should not crash because I incorrectly remove the channels, perhaps a warning to tell me I can't do it would be better.
I'll pass this onto Adobe anyway.
    cheers

  • How do I get CS6 to not distort color when using Lion and printing from Epson R2880?

Ever since I up-graded to CS5 , the color has been distorted.  It is not an Epson Lion problem because printing from preview or iPhoto the color is perfect.
Adobe has known about this problem since January 23, 2012.  Their help people have taken over my computer for hours at a time and not been able to discover the source of the problem
I thought they might have fixed it with CS6 but no luck  I chose use CS4 settings because CS4 had worked.
I printed using Printer Manages Color and color matching, epson color.  I selected the correct media.  The prints came out dark.  The yellows turned green and the greens turned blue/green, reds became dull and blues a bit dark.
This is most upsetting because I cannot afford to buy a new printer and ink.  Also I should not have to buy new equipment because Adobe cannot make their product work correctly.

    cmszinnia wrote:
If the printer prints colors accurately from Lion apps, which it does, then the problem is in Adobe.
Uh...ok...then the REST of the FREE world is going down the tubes because obviously, Adobe has screwed up?
Some of us are using LR4 and CS6 to print and getting accurate and excellent results with Lion (10.7.3) so the question begging for an answer is why can't you?
Read very carefully what Chris wrote...the odds are REAL GOOD you are NOT using the correct settings...but since you don't bother to show or explain the EXACT settings you are using when printing, we'll never know. Will we?
If the vast magority of the user base is NOT having an issue, to what do you attribute the disconnect? User Error is the single most likely result...
You want help? Or do you want to argue?
I know a little bit about printing and I seem to be able to print with zero issues on a wide variety of Epson printers...you wanna place blame or do you wanna learn how to fix the problem? (clue, the odds are it isn't Adobe nor Epson leading to the problems, it's you bud).

  • Printing from Preview does not bleed to edge of paper

I am not sure if this is the right place to post, but it is is an issue with the OS, I think.
When I print from ipad or iphone, my printer has no problem bleeding the image and printing onto the entire page, L or XG size paper (I am in Asia currently).  However, when I print from preview, it does not work.  It always creates a border around the image.
I have added a custom size paper for the photo paper I am using and the printer settings show that the unprintable area is zero on all sides.
I also select "fill the paper" from the print settings and the preview on screen clearly shows that it is filling the entire paper.
Yet, when I print the document, there is always a small border around the entire image.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?  I can workaround it, but it would be great if it just worked from Preview.
    Thanks in advance!

Well, my paper size is not listed, so I had to do a custom size.  So, I put in the exact size of the paper, which is KG size (Japan photo size) and is 102 x 152 mm.  I also have L size in there which is 89 x 127 mm.  Then, I put the non-printable area size as zero on all four sides.
Is it simply that my paper dimmensions are wrong?  I took it from the package and from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_print_sizes
Perhaps I should use 100 x 150 for KG size?

  • Dark Prints from Epson R1900 w/ Colormunki

I use the Epson R1900 and Colormunki and still get dark prints. Here is my setup.
    GEForce 8600 GT video card
    Sceptre DCLCD20 monitor
    Epson Stylus R1900 printer
In the calibration process, I have to turn my monitor Brightness control all the way to 0 to get to come close to what Colormunki wants.
I have to turn off the Enbale DDC Calibration function in the preferences or Colormunki sets my monitor so dark, I can barely see it.
I've tried printing in both Lightroom 2.4 and PS CS4 using the Colormunki generated profile and both prints come out dark - the same but dark
In LR, my color management settings are Profile: Epson ... (my profile) and Rendering intent: perceptual.
In PS CS4, my Color Handling settings are Photoshop Manages Color; Printer Prilfe is my colormunki generated profile, Rendering intent is perceptual.
    Both print previews look fine.
    Both prints come out dark
    Any suggestions would be appreciated?

sounds very strange. Usually when profiling a monitor and setting the luminance value (which is either called the brightness or backlight) control, you start from the brightest point the monitor will go to and then the device measures this and sets a recommended luminance value measured in cm2 (that is candles to the square meter) and you reset your monitor brightness until it matches the required value. Are you reading the instructions carefully as what you say here just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Setting the monitor to 0 (o what?) and saying the calibration device sets your monitor brightness (this will be done on the monitor controls not by a calibration device)
If you are also using the colomunki to make printer profiles I have heard of several serious problems with the device regarding this. I understand it makes icc v4 profiles and your printer drivers may use icc v 2...this will cause difficulties. You will usually be better using the canned profiles supplied by any paper manufacturer than attempting to make your own profiles with these cheaper end of the market devices in my experience.

  • Prints From Epson Coming Out Dark/Orange Cast

    Hi,
I have an Epson PX710w and use Lightroom 2.4 64bit on Vista. I have putting out some prints over the last few days and have noticed that images with a lot of red in have been coming out slightly orange and all of them are darker than expected. Is there any reason for this? I have also tried printing through CS2 and have noticed a little improvement in the prints. I have also printed some of the images off on other printers with good results that match my monitor.
What I currently do in the Print module:
Colour Management: choose profile that matches printer and paper
    >
    Print properties >
    - Choose paper type
    - Colour Management > ICM > Off (No Colour Adjustment)
Then I go back and hit print...
    Any suggestions would be fantastic.

  • Problems printing from Epson RX500 in Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro. I downloaded the software update for my Epson photo RX500. Every time I try to print, I get an error message which says "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed" Does anyone know what this means, and more importantly, how to fix it? Thanks for any ideas.

I too have an Epson Stylus Photo RX500. Also just bought the new iMac with Snow Leopard. I downloaded Apple’s driver and it was installed by the system. The printer and copying are working just fine, BUT I cannot get the software for the scan to open. It comes to the dock, bounces, then disappears. I went to the Epson web site, but didn’t see any help there. It does seem that Epson has given up supporting Apple’s new computers. That, or they are just behind times. :-D I am going to try to send them an e-mail and hope that I get an answer. Frustrating, isn’t it!!

  • Printing From MS Access Report Looks Different on Different Machines

Hello all. I am creating a pdf report from Access. I am on a very large government network and several users are creating the same report with exactly the same data. Each user has the same version of Acrobat Pro, the same version of Access, the same operating system. However, for some users, the reports are too wide, or some vertical grid lines are not lining up correctly, and for others, it looks fine. If I fix the report for some people, it will mess it up for others. What would cause this behavior? One person in the Access forum suggested that it may have something to do with which network printers we have installed on our machines. I have 4 printers installed on my machine including a color printer, but other users may have other printers. Any ideas? I am using Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Access 2010.

Is everyone using Access 2010? The variations in Access may also be an issue. To check the layout in Access, go to the print menu and select the Adobe PDF printer and then go back through the Access report (or print preview). That is how it should look as it is created to a PDF.
Other aspects that might affect the result could be the job settings selected for the Adobe PDF printer. lines tend to have problems if a low resolution is used in some cases. Try a Print or Press settings to be sure to get high quality graphics. You might also check the Print Quality setting in the printer properties (Layout>Advanced). I use 300dpi to get around some issues of a line being defined as a pixel and not showing on screen when using the default 1200 dpi. [these settings may vary with Acrobat version -- this machine uses AA 9]
So checking Acrobat versions, OS, Access version, and the various settings may be required to get consistency. I have a tendancy to set the Adobe PDF printer as my default printer and then the results for my word processor are consistent between machines.

  • Can't Print From Epson R300 Anymore

This is my first post, forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong area, or if this has been addressed and answered previously. I have a Powerbook G4, running OSX 4.11 and using an Epson stylus photo R300 and have successfully been printing for years. Suddenly, nothing. I've been enduring this problem for quite some time, and cannot recall if there had been a software update prior to this happening. I have contacted Epson support, followed all their instructions, re-installed drivers, reset, etc. The problem I seem to have is when the printer is connected and powered on, nothing shows up in the printer set up utility. When selecting Epson USB, no models appear for me to add.
So far, I've been completely striking out! Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated! (also, any insight as to what is the cause.. Apple? Epson? who's responsible for the fix?)
    Thanks in advance!!

I am in a similar boat with Munga. I have an iMac 24 Intel Duo Core running OS 10. 4.11
I've had my R300 since I bought the computer and it has been working beautifully until the last 4 months or so. When trying to print a dialog box popped up saying that the computer couldn't communicate with the printer, though I could see the printer in all dialog boxes leading up to printing. The printer works with my laptop running OS 10.4.11 as well as using CF card directly in printer. I checked the USB cable with another device in the same USB port on my iMac and it works fine too. I tried resetting the PRAM,repairing the disc permissions, restarting numerous times and eventually resetting the printer and reloading the Epson Software. Before reloading the Epson software I went to the library>printers and removed the old Epson software. I also went to Receipts in the Library and removed the Epson receipts as suggested else where on this forum. The new Epson software reload hangs at "6 more items to load" . If I connect the printer to my IMac I can see it in the Systems profiler box as well as the print dialog box. I'd really like to use my printer. Please help!
