Printing from Illustrator is jaggy, but smooth from Acrobat. Huh?

OK, so I print a file from Illustrator to my ultra high-res inkjet printer, and you can see the jagged lines that make up every curve, making text in particular look bad. Yet if I save the file as a PDF and print from Acrobat, I get the full resolution of the printer and it looks stunning. However colours often change... So, can I somehow change the printing resolution that Illustrator uses? This isn't printer specific either, it's always done it no matter that printer I use.
Any help appreciated!

Well I usually do no have to although it does come out a bit better anyway with Acrobat but it is not Adobe's fault since the printer is not postscript unless you buy a postscript driver which the printer manufacturer will sell you or you can get a third party driver and they are usually costly.
Adobe use to sell an inexpensive one called press ready but I do not think a lot of people used it. I know I did.

    Bought a new Canon MG7540 printer to replace the old HP A618. When printing vector objects from Illustrator, they look like graphics from dandy (8 bits) ... no smooth, all cubes ... if do raster than print perfectly.  Who knows how to treat it? No well to rasterize vector before each printing. OS - MacOs 10.10.

    Have you read the User's Guide for that printer?  Odds are you will get reasonable prints.  However, it is a photographic printer.  That said, it should print excellent quality photographic files.  To get smooth lines in Illustrator, try Preferences > Use Anti-Aliased Artwork.  That will smoothen the output.  If, for some reason, that does not work, try Print > Save As PDF > open PDF in Reader and print from there.  Check the User's Guide for media sizes available for your particular printer.  Setup your artboard to the size page you want the image to print on.  Use View > Show Page Tiling ( to see where the page's printable area lies.  Align the page with the artboard using the Page tool.

  • I can print from my iPad 3 but not from my new iPad mini which has a lower spec. What should I do?

    Question. Why can I print from my iPad 3 but not from my new iPad mini which has a lower spec?

    The "lower specs" have nothing to do at all with why you cannot print. Are you connected to the same Wi-Fi network that the printer & the iPad 3 is on?

  • Input Tax code from logical partner LS but not from indiv vendor partner LI

    Hi,
    Find that tax code at vendor invoice is being taken from logical partner (LS) , but not from the individual vendor partner number (LI) . Bothe the partners are maintained in WE20 , OBCA , OBCD & OMRY.
    Like to know the reason / setting to pick up tax code from logical partner (tax rates are same in both cases).
    With regards,

    Hi Dove,
    I think you can use a substitution for field Bank Type at Item Level (TCODE OBBH). This would fill your bank type when you post the document in FI, then you won't have problems in F110.
    Hope that helps.Cheers.

  • Can't print from PS or PSE but can from Aperture and Pages

    I suddenly am unable to print photos from my iMac running 10.6.6 with Photoshop CS5 or PSE 9 to my Epson SP 2400 (FireWire on the iMac) or 3880 (either connected to my MacPro and addressed through WiFi, or connected to the iMac thru USB). Everything seems to go normally until I press Print, then nothing happens. When I select Preview or PDF instead of Print, I get a blank page. I THINK the problem may have begun only after I updated from 10.6.5, but I'm not certain, and it could have begun only after I upgraded to PSE 9 but again I'm not certain. Prior to making any changes, printing worked normally with PS CS5 and PSE 8 under 10.6.5. Drivers are up-to-date.
    Printing a text-only document from Pages on the iMac to a WiFi-connected laser printer works fine.
    Printing a text-only document from PSE 9 or on the iMac to a WiFi-connected laser printer, curiously, also works fine.
    Printing a photo from PSE 8 on my MacBook Pro updated to 10.6.6, thru WiFi, to the 3880 on the MacPro, works fine.
    Printing from Aperture on the iMac to the 2400 thru USB works fine.
    Printing from Aperture on the MacPro to the 3880 thru USB works fine.
    Printing from Aperture on the iMac thru WiFi to the 3880 on the MacPro works fine.
    As I write this, I'm recognizing for the first time that the problem seems to be in printing a photo either with PSE 9, or with PSE 9 installed on the same computer from which I'm trying to print with CS5. Rather than not post this until I've done some experimentation (like installing PSE 9 on the MacBook), I'll go ahead and post first and hope to hear from the Voice of Experience.
    Anyone?

    Re the driver affecting pdf printing, the answer is no. The print to pdf uses internal processes and is not impacted by the vendors driver. So given that Rosetta was no help and Word is also failing, then it suggest that the core printing system is at fault. Although the ability to CS2 to print is a 'curve-ball'. The CS2 suite does things differently when it comes to printing but it still eventually uses the core printing system to get the file to the printer.
    So, some things to try....
    1. Install the 10.4.9 Combo update. If you did the sequential update from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9, then this update can fill missing holes.
    2. Get Fixamac's Printer Setup Repair utility to see if it can identify any issues.
    3. Get Gutenprint 5.0.0 and try adding a printer using one of these drivers.

  • Softwareupdate works from a client desktop but fails from a terminal?

    We have an Apple xServer running Softwareupdate. It all works fine if a user clicks on the apple in the top left of the desktop and selects 'software update'. However if a user goes to a terminal and types:-
    sudo softwareupdate -i -a
    Its gives the following error:-
    Error: The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)
    Now obviously the users don't generally even have acess to the terminal but this means i am unable to send unix commands using remote desktop to force the clients to update. This is a problem because with a class of 30 kids using 30 macbooks with differing versions of imovie etc often there are issues when they try and open their work and find it was created on a earlier version of imovie etc.
    So does anyone know what causes this issue? The correct url is specified on the machine groups in workgroup manager and it does work just not as a unix command even when run as root.

    Hello Sam,
    Haven't seen that particular error while doing a software update from a command line, but would seem to indicate a DNS issue (domain not found or DNS server unavailable) or maybe a file doesn't exist.
    From the command line, could you run this?
    defaults read com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
    Should dump the entire content of the indicated plist. For example, here's mine:
        CatalogURL = "http://internal-update-server.domain.com:8088/index.sucatalog";
        WebKitDefaultFontSize = 11;
        WebKitStandardFont = "Lucida Grande";
    What's the value on the line that begins CatalogURL? Any extra characters or spaces between the quotes that maybe shouldn't be there? If you were to grab the URL that's returned on your systems and try to fetch the file through Safari or maybe with curl from the command line, does it download?

  • Can't print from Mail or Firefox but can from CS2

    When I try to print from Mail I get the 'Print - Error While Printing' error coming up. It doesn't matter which printer I print to and it even does the same thing if I try to make a PDF. If I print from Firefox I don't get an error but nothing happens. However, I can print fine from Creative Suite 2 so I wonder if it's only affecting native Intel apps maybe?
    Anyway, I have tried rebuilding disk permissions and replacing libConverter.dylib with another copy, none of which makes any difference. Any ideas anyone?

  • Can print from MacBook via Airport, but not from eMac

    I recently set up wireless network via an Airport Time Capsule. I've connected my Epson Stylus C84 via the USB hub. I can print wirelessly from the MacBook, but I get a "Communication Error" when attempting to print from my eMac (which works just fine when directly connected to the printer.)
    Thoughts? (It's driving me nuts!)

    You'll need to invest in an Airprint printer, or look into a hack such as AirPrint Activator.
    The only Apple supported/suggested method is to look into getting an AirPrint supported printer.  To find them you can go to store.apple.com and on the side is an AirPrint printers section.

  • Hp d110a prints blurry from any iOS device, but not from any other kind of device.

    My D110a prints blurry...almost like a shadow...when printing via AirPrint on any iOS device, but if I print from other devices, or just print a report, it prints correctly. I have attempted to search on the device's control panel (both on the device and web-based) to see if there is a print setting, and I will also check my router.
    Does anyone know why this would be happening? I have access to another HP ePrint All-In-One at my job, and my iPad prints fine to that printer.
    Thanks much,
    Chris

    Hello Choirguy,
    Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand when printing from Apple Devices with the AirPrint driver it prints blurry. We know it is not the HP Photosmart D110a, as you can print reports from the front panel with no problem and all other Operating systems are fine and print correctly. Please let me know the following:
    1. Is the D110a connected directly to a wall outlet, without power strips or surge protectors connected?
    2. What other devices are you able to successfully print from, and how are they connected USB or Wireless>
    3. Do you have any software installed on the devices that are able to print from?
    I will watch for your reply, so we can continue.
    Thanks,

  • Why does eprint work from my gmail account but not from my hotmail account?

    Hi,
    i have a photosmart premium C310 series and have a problem with eprint! When I sent a word file (or any other file) from my gmail account all works fine, but when I sent the same file from my hotmail account i get a 'Delivery Status Notification (failure)' and my mail doesn't reach the printer.....!!??
    Anyone any idea? Thx

    Hi schummi737,
    Sounds like there are some settings in hotmail which is causing the communication issue. You will need to contact Hotmail technical support to help you make changes to the settings.

  • MacPro won't boot from (2) internal drives but will from DVD

    My MacPro hung this morning, blank screen but mouse red LED working. I restarted it and it booted into my 2nd internal drive with 10.5.2 rather than "Macintosh HD". Checked Time Machine and seemed to be all good.
    I used the DVD to get TimeMachine to do a complete restore from internal drive 4 onto the main Macintosh HD. This got as far as saying something like "restore complete, click to restart using restored disk".
    After clicking I just got a beachball of death.
    Used DVD to run disk utility, clean bill of health on all drives except verify permissions gets 15% through then stops.
    Now, when I try and boot from either of my two startup disks the MacPro starts up, goes to greyscreen then I get a couple of little clicking noises and the whole thing shuts down.
    Tried unplugging everything then just put power lead back in and monitor connection,
    Tried running Apple Hardware Test (as it boots from disk but not drives, thought it might be a power supply problem) but AHT gets to "test 1" then locks up
    I can boot into single user mode, am about to try FSCK but running out of things to try.
    Can I access files from the desktop and put hem onto a remote machine or USB stick from Single User Mode - or access/mount my drives from the DVD. In the "old" days it was poosible to boot to a desktop from a CD - can that still be done?
    Cheers

    I always keep spare drives, and use SuperDuper to keep images even of drive volumes.
    Keeping one drive to OS only and no data or prefs helps.
    Having an emergency drive or partition: a must (sort of like Micromat TTPro eDrive only better).
    Pull the drive for now. Maybe Data Rescue II later. And a FW case you can throw it into for repairs or to recover files.
    I am surprised you don't get the "stop" sign, a circle + slash, that often indicates corrupt journal/directory and no boot device where it expects to find one.
    TechTool Pro, commercial $90 5.0 is due soon, hopefully they were just waiting now for 10.5.5 to be out and see if it would change or alter (or break) their utility.
    Backups, whether TS or a clone made with SuperDuper, are critical, should run on their own automatically in background, and the OS doesn't have to be that large, fit it on 60-100GB disk image so you don't have to worry about partition and size.
    For now, use the DVD to install OS X on a new drive partition to begin to build a foundation from which you can do more and mark this as emergency-only. You can clone it later if needed to a "working" system. SuperDuper is free for full copy, or use Disk Utility Restore even to set the source and 'target' destination volumes.

  • Procedure runs from 9i odbc drivers but not from 10g.

    Hi
    i have a old vc++ application which calls a stored procedure.
    This application has been in use for a long time.
    earlier the Database server and client were both oracle 9i.
    now we moved the server and some of the clients to 10g.
    The application still works from machine with 9i clients (with older odbc drivers)
    but from machines with 10g client (with newer odbc drivers) i get the following error.
    PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "end-of-file" when expecting one of the following:
    ( ) - + case mod new not null others <an identifier>
    <a double-quoted delimited-identifier> <a bind variable>
    table avg count current exists max min prior sql stddev sum
    i also get:
    [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-06550: line 1, column 16
    The procedure has three parameters which it recieves as type NUMBER:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "TEST"."MYPROCNAME"
    (prm1 NUMBER, prm2 NUMBER, prm3 NUMBER)
    AS
    /*...body of the procedure...*/
    The process flow in application code (vc++) goes something like this:
    SQLBindParameter(handelToSTMT,1, SQL_PARAM_INPUT, SQL_C_SSHORT, SQL_INTEGER, sizeof(parm1), 0, &parm1, 0, NULL);
    SQLBindParameter(handelToSTMT,2, SQL_PARAM_INPUT, SQL_C_SSHORT, SQL_INTEGER, sizeof(parm1), 0, &parm2, 0, NULL);
    SQLBindParameter(handelToSTMT,3, SQL_PARAM_INPUT, SQL_C_SSHORT, SQL_INTEGER, sizeof(parm1), 0, &parm3, 0, NULL);
    SQLPrepare(handelToSTMT,"{call myProcName(?, ?, ?)}",SQL_NTS);
    SQLExecute(handelToSTMT);
    Is ther some change in how 10g odbc parameter bindings work?
    Can it be possible to change the procedure to compensate for that?
