Printing & Screen Resolution

I am able to print from an applet or an application, but the output always depends on the user's screen resolution. As screen resolution decreases (as fonts get larger), the printed area decreases. Is there a way around this so that the printed area is independent of screen settings?

The solution is to disable double buffering before printing and then enable it again afterwards.
RepaintManager currentManager = RepaintManager.currentManager(this);
currentManager.setDoubleBufferingEnabled(false);
print(g2d);
currentManager.setDoubleBufferingEnabled(true);

  • Print design and retina mac laptop screen resolution?

    print designer here considering buying a retina mac laptop but concerned about the screen resolution and 2x pixels that i keep on reading about. For preparing artwork for PRINTshould i continue preparing my images at 300dpi at 100@ of the final size? thanks so much, claudia.

    There are only a couple choices. Either return the monitor for a brand name monitor that is Mac compatible, or use third-party software (DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X) to make up for the Optiquest's display driver deficiency and configure the required 1280 x 1024 timing manually.

  • 24"iMAC optimal screen resolution for photo processing

    I have a 24" iMAC (matte) and do mostly photo editing. What is the optimal screen resolution for photo processing work?
    thanks
    a/d/

    All Screens are 72 dpi (dots per inch- in reference to pixels) no matter what screen resolution you use. The only difference the screen resolution will make is the size of the photo when you are viewing. Higher resolution means the picture will take up less space in you work area, but you will most likely have to zoom in to edit finer areas. Lower resolution will cause the picture you are editing to take up more of your work space and to see multiple photos side by side you will have to zoom out of fron the photos. So, really the choice is up to you.
    When creating the original document, this is where you need to monitor the dpi. The higher the dpi, the clearer your photo will look in print. A high dpi also means more disk space is being taken up by the photo. Generally a good dpi for print is 300 dpi. Anything that is only purposed for a screen based project (i.e. internet logos) should be saved at 72 dpi. Why use disk space and cause your pages to take longer load if no one will be able to tell the difference on screen between 72 and 300 dpi?
    Hope this helps!

  • Why don't I have the screen resolution I used to have on my iMac 2400.

    I used to have several screen resolutions on my iMac 2400, now I only have two, 1920 X 1200 and 960 X 600.
    Because I am a senior, my eyes need a resolution that provides clarity and is not too small.  960 X 600
    prevents me from using Microsoft Office because I cannot select all of the options i.e. when I want to
    print because the options are beyond the window and I cannot access them.  1920 X 1200 is too small
    for my senior eyes.
    Please update the graphics driver with the resolutions I used to have.  More and more
    seniors use computers and the younger developers need to understand this otherwise
    they will switch to PCs.
    Thank you

  • Screen resolution preferences does not work for me...

    I have a 1920x1080, 17.4 laptop. That is approx 126.6 ppi screen resolution if my calculkations are correct...
    So in order to set PS to display real size of the images according to the zoom, I go to edit / preferences / units & rulers and set the screen resolution to 126.6 instead of the default 72ppi.
    But nothing changes...what am I doing wrong? 100% zoom is still showing much larger image than real (as if 72ppi screen resolution was unchanged). I have tried extreme ppi like 10 and 1000 to see if anything chaged but still nothing, I have restarted Ps and the laptop, and the preferences are correctly saved but zoom still wrong...
    Help very much appreciated!

    It works when you go to the View menu and select Print Size. When you load an image and turn on (Ctrl r) Rulers, the on screen rulers the should match a physical ruler and the image would be the same size onscreen as it would be on paper. This function needed your screen resolution in order to accurately do this.
    You should use your horizontal screen size in inches, not your diagonal screen size as 1024 is the horizontal pixel dimensions of your screen.
    Screen resolution (ppi) = 1024 px/horizontal size inches.

  • Screen resolution changes every time I open I-Tunes

    The screen resolution changes when I open I-Tunes. I have to go into control panel every-time to adjust the resolution to make the print and screen layout small enough so its entirety is captured which then allows me to use I-Tunes. Otherwise the graphics are too large to be captured on the screen making the program unusable.

  • High screen resolution problems

    Hi.
    Just bought a Dell XPS lapptop with screen resolution 3200x1800 and windows 8.1. After installing photoshop CS6 the program interface, menus and icons are extremly smal and almost impossible to see. That also happens in Bridge but not in Lightroom. Thankfull for your help.  Best regards/janis lukas

    Ideally  For a Image editor you want a high resolution display so you can edit your images at a high resolution near or actual print quality.  And the editor should have a UI that is easy to see and use.  That is what CC 2014 2x UI is all about.   You can can have an OS like Windows scale your display image effectively  run you display at a lower resolution so that things display larger.  Scaling the display to 1/2 resolution is easy for its and even multiplayer 2x A 200DPI display would be like a 100DPI display with 1/4 the number of pixels.  Scaling the display defeats the reason to have a high resolution display.  However it may work well for a Application like the bridge. The the bridge only displays previews and thumbnails.  It is not what you want for an image editor like Photoshop.  You want to be able to use the high resolution for editing.
    As I wrote Windows can scale the system display for application to lower resolutions.   Application have that option.  Adobe application do not the have windows scale the display so their Applications can take advantage of all the pixels and resolution the display has to offer.  However Only Photoshop has a option to scale its UI 2x.
    It is possible to have Windows scale the display for an Adobe Application by making a registry update and adding an external manifest file for applications yo want Windows to scale.
    I can show you the difference between  Adobe CC 2x UI and Windows scaling.  CC 2014 2x UI works well on 4K displays that have high resolution.  However it does not work well on a Surface Pro 3  Display that has a 216PPI resolution for the display only has 2160 x 1440 Pixels Scaling the UI 2x effectively make the display look like a 108 PPI display with 1080x720 pixels.  Which doe not meet Photoshop 1024x768 requirement.  Photoshop UI just doesn't fit.
    Windows Scaling for the Surface Pro 3 has  4 preset dor scaling the display 150% being the default for the surface pro 3
    Microsoft Preset Display scaling
    100% 2160x1440   216 PPI
    125% 1728x1152   173 PPI
    150% 1440x960    144 PPI SP3 Default setting
    200% 1080x720    108 PPI
    The 150% scaling works well for Photoshop UI however it alsi scala Photoshop image window where CC 2014 2C UI does not.  Windows scaling can also be use on other versions of Photoshop and bridge etc. It would be helpful if Photoshop also offered a  1.25x and 1.5x UI.  Here are some screen captures I did on my Surface Pro 3 the shows the difference  between 2x UI and Display scaling.   CC 2014  Adobe scaling vs Windows scaling.

  • Reader 11.0.04 on Win 7 screen resolution issue

    Hello,
    There are two Windows accounts on my machine (Windows 7, home).  When I log into one account, Adobe Reader (11.0.04) works fine.  When I log into the other account, and open Reader, the screen resolution changes, and the Reader screen looks huge.  Everything on the computer looks that way until I close the Adobe application.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Reader to no avail.  I tried changing settings in Reader, but the changes never save (change Smooth Text to "none" from laptop/LCD, etc...).
    There has to be something different between the two Windows user accounts, but I can't figure out what it is.  Why would it work on one login, but not the other?
    Please help!

    Thing is, Reader DOESN'T have the ability to set a default printer. That's strictly Windows.

  • Low screen resolution on my T400.

    Maximum screen resolution on my new ThinkPad T400 with discrete graphics(windows 7 home premium) is only 1280x800, I was expecting it to to more higher.
    Please advice on what to do.

    IIRC, the choices were 1280x800 (WXGA) or 1440x900 (WXGA+ as mine is).  W/ the CTO models you had to pick one when specifying the system.

  • Accurate screen resolution vs web

    I have an aluminum 23in ACD (4years old) on a G5. Display Preferences have resolution set to 1920x1200 which looks correct and seems optimum. When I make a graphic that is 5inches x 3.5 inches in photoslop and view it at 100%, it is about 30% smaller than it accurately should be. In other words, if I take an actual ruler and measure on the screen, my 5inch wide graphic is 3.5inches. Why is this? And what does the web see that size as?
    If I make the item 5x3.5 at 96ppi, its screen size is pretty much accurate, but I am told that it should be made at 72ppi.
    Somewhat confused here.
    Any comments appreciated, other than the usual "you ignorant...!!$#%..."

    I'd say the 72 ppi standard is pretty much out the window at this time in history with respect to the web. When the original Macintosh came out with its 9-inch diagonal, black and white screen with 512 x 384 resolution, Apple went through pains to make sure it conformed to the typesetting standard of 72 ppi by making the screen 72 pixels/dots per inch. Thus WYSIWYG was born on the Mac whereby printed output on the 72 ppi dot matrix printer came out at the same size as elements on the screen. Everything matched on this original system.
    Apple held onto 72 dpi screens for a while but the wheels started to come off the cart with the advent of notebook screens where there was a desire to have more on-screen pixels but the screen size was limited by cost and processing limits of the day. So 80 dpi soon showed up on Apple screens and up and up it has crept to the point where we now have a 17" MacBook Pro screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution at 133 dpi, nearly double the original 72 dpi.
    Desktop publishing software applications have strongly adhered to the 72 ppi standard that is a part of their DNA which isn't going to go away. But the fact of the matter is that with screen resolution being all over the map, and resolution independence of displayed computer output still an unfulfilled promise, you can never hope your audience of viewers will all see what you have intended with your webpage at exactly the same size.
    At this point in time, I'd say 96ppi is much closer to the average computer monitor display than 72ppi, so you are probably better off standardizing on that for web content meant primarily to be viewed on screen.

  • CS6 Screen Resolution ...

    Hi,
    how can I setup screen resolution in CS6 Illustrator, so I can setup to view my artwork at 100% of printing size when I select View/ Actual Size ?
    I was expecting a screen resolution setup like such, but nothing there at Preferences / Units or other preference tabs .

    There is no such feature in Illustrator. Your image shows Photoshop preferences. In Illustrator take a real life ruler, put it in front of your screen on top of Illustrator rulers and change the zoom level of the document until the Illustrator rulers match the real life rulers. Then write down the zoom value and use it when you need real size.

  • PKGBUILD: user's screen resolution

    Hi,
    I want to install a gnome theme with different background images for wide screens/normal screens. Both images are installed but the default configuration file should point to the right image (wide or normal). Then i need to find the user's screen resolution.
    Would including these lines in the PKGBUILD be a correct solution? Or is it bad policy?
    build() {
    # find if we have a wide screen
    local _WIDE_SCR=(1024x600,1280x800,1366x768,1440x900,1680x1050,1920x1200,1920x1080,2560x1600)
    local _res="ZZ"
    [ -f /usr/bin/xdpyinfo ] && _res=`xdpyinfo | awk '/dimensions/ {print $2}'`
    if [[ $_WIDE_SCR =~ $_res ]] ; then
    echo "BackgroundImage=/usr/share/pixmaps/backgrounds/gnome/other/AquaDreams-wide.jpg" >>index.theme
    else
    echo "BackgroundImage=/usr/share/pixmaps/backgrounds/gnome/other/AquaDreams.jpg" >>index.theme
    fi
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for your answers.
    I agree users should take care of package configuration.
    But in this case, it's not about the user's choice: some background images really don't fit a wide screen; and the author specifically included one background for regular screens and another for wide screens.
    So my question is: would it be bad|dangerous|ugly|forbidden..., according to Arch rules?
    @ngoonee: is using xrandr better than xdpyinfo?

  • DB does not look the same in different screen resolutions

    Hi All -
    I have built my dashboards using the Windows screen resolution 1024 x 768, and exported the dashboard into powerpoint.  With this resolution the dashboard looks normal.  I then changed my Windows screen resolution to 1280 x 1024, opened the ppt slideshow and my X-axis labels are being cut off.  The labels are written vertically (ex: 06/09/09).
    Does anyone know why this could be happening?
    Thanks!
    Tracy

    I am experiencing the exact same thing. The width of the tabs in the layout editor is varied depending on the length of the text. However, at run-time, the width of the tabs is fixed, causing the tabs to be wider than the window and a set of VCR buttons to appear in the upper right corner of the canvas. Personally, I think this is a Forms bug. Why would they intentionally let us set the width to variable at design-time only to force a fixed width at run-time?
