Printing stack trace

Hi,
Not able to print stack trace in JDeveloper 11g ... All it is printing is the exception and it's message.
Any ideas how to set options to print stack trace.
Example code: e.printStackTrace()
Thanks,
Syam

Hi,
what is the stacktrace ou are trying? It works for me, so there must be something in your test. Can you try and raise an exception in another class?

  • JVM stopped printing stack traces... :(

    Earlier today I was messing around with trying to re-direct Standard Output to a file, but now that I've commented out that section of code and have it going to the console again it isn't printing stack traces! Instead of something like:
    C:\> java AlarmClock
    The current time is 5:00 PM.
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
    at AlarmClock.main(AlarmClock.java: 182)
    C:\>
    I just get:
    C:\> java GameTest
    The current time is 5:00 PM.
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    C:\>
    It's giving me these really horrible C++ flashbacks ("segmentation fault" -- NOOOOooooo....!). I haven't ever reassigned System.err to anything, and I've definitely deleted the part of my code that had the System.setOut statement in it. I'm getting output to the console when I do System.out.println so it's not like Out is still going to the file. I just tried duplicating the error in a separate program and I got the stack trace just fine.
    Any idea how I can get my stack traces back?
    Thanks,
    Ditchdigger

    Try this:
    try {
    // Place code here
    } catch (NullPointerException ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    }

  • Java Exception Stack Trace

    Whenever an exception object is created, its constructor is called. This constructor, calls super class constructor to fill in the exception stack trace and then the constructor uses printStackTrace() method to print the stack trace.
    This should print the stack trace automatically on the std out.
    However, in our exception handling code, unless we specifically use printStackTrace() it does not print stack trace.
    What is the reason for this?

    Hi,
    I am aware that not all Exceptions print stack trace to std out.
    I am specifically refering to SQLException. The constructor source code is
    public SQLException(String reason) {
         super(reason);
         this.SQLState = null;
         this.vendorCode = 0;
         if (!(this instanceof SQLWarning)) {
         if (DriverManager.getLogWriter() != null) {
              printStackTrace(DriverManager.getLogWriter());
    }

  • Want to print the stack trace from the code

    looking for a way to print the stack trace from the CVI code.
    Thanks!

    First I would share the movie. If I was making a DVD, I would use SHARE/To Media Browser in LARGE size.
    Then I would use a free application called MPEG Streamclip,
    Get MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
    In the Finder, go to Movies/iMovie Projects, and right click on your project. Then, right-click/Show Package Contents. Navigate to the Movies folder in the package and find the LARGE movie. (Note: you are in the bowels of the Media Browser)
    Drag this movie into MPEG Streamclip. (It will not actually move anywhere. This tells MPEG Streamclip how to find it.)
    In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
    In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
    Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
    You can then drag this photo into iPhoto, iDVD, or wherever you need it.
    (Assuming you already know this) In iDVD, you can find the Media Browser at the lower right of the Window. Navigate to your project and drag it into iDVD.

  • Make java run without printing the stack trace

    I have a GUI program which appears to work for all test cases. Basically what it does is prints out data from a linked list allowing the user to traverse the list with Next and Previous buttons which call a list iterator next/previous method call, and then display the current item in the list. The original problem arose when dealing with alternating calls to next and previous, which since list iterator does not have a current pointer, returned the same element ad infinitum. I modified the method to check for alternating button presses, and it seems to work, except for cases where there are two elements in the list. In this case it still works, printing the correct element, but it also prints to the command line an Exception in Thread AWT...NoSuchElementException. My question is, is there any way to tell the program to not print out this stack trace and just keep running quietly through the Exception?

    I'm not an expert at error handling, but wouldn't it work to put the code that throws the exception in a try/catch block?
    like
    try {
        //code that causes exception
    } catch (NoSuchElementException e) {
        //do nothing
    }Might not work, but it's worth a try...

  • Printing Line numbers while dumping stack trace during crash..

    Hi,
    I want to dump the stack trace of all threads with the line numbers when the program crashes. I am able to do that by cathing the signals and invoking "pstack" utility to dump the stack. But it does not dump the line numbers of each function. Is there some way of doing that?
    Thanks
    Atul

    If you run the executable under dbx then you can type 'where' when the program crashes or set a breakpoint in your signal handler. Line numbers will only show up in the dbx stack trace if the application was compiled with -g and not stripped.

  • WLST, how do I suppress unwanted stack traces and make WLST less verbose?

    Hi everyone,
    I've just started out with WLST but have ended up somewhat confused. My script works as intended but is very verbose.
    Suppose I want to log in:
    try:
         connect(user, "wrong_password", url)
    except WLSTException, err:
         print str(err)
         print "Run with option \"-h\" for help"The password is wrong so I get something like this printed out by me:
    {noformat}
    Error occured while performing connect : User: wm714, failed to be authenticated. Use dumpStack() to view the full stacktrace
    {noformat}
    But I also get a totally unwanted Java stack trace (before my message):
    {noformat}This Exception occurred at Fri May 21 15:49:01 CEST 2010.
    javax.naming.AuthenticationException [Root exception is java.lang.SecurityException: User: wm714, failed to be authenticated.]

    at weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactoryDelegate.pushSubject(WLInitialContextFactoryDelegate.java:677)
    {noformat}
    I don't want to confuse the user with all that! I found this:
    http://objectmix.com/weblogic/529822-wlst-exception-handling-unwanted-stack-trace.html
    Which discusses WLS.commandExceptionHandler.setSilent(1) I'm running on WLS 10.3.0.0 and can execute that statement but it has no effect. I didn't even know about the WLS-object and I can find no documentation on commandExceptionHandler.
    On the matter of verbosity, is there any way to get rid of stuff like:
    Location changed to domainRuntime tree. This is a read-only tree with DomainMBean as the root.
    For more help, use help(domainRuntime)I avoid using the "interactive" commands like cd and use stuff like getMBean("domainRuntime:/ServerRuntimes/" + appServer.getName()
    + "/JMSRuntime/" + appServer.getName() + ".jms/JMSServers") but I still get the clutter printed out.
    Thanks!

    Workaround:
    wlstOut = tempfile.mktemp(suffix="_wlst.txt")
    redirect(wlstOut, "false")
    ... do useful stuff
    stopRedirect()
    os.remove(wlstOut)I would have preffered to turn off the messages (yes I could try /dev/null) but this will do. A funny thing is that the stack trace I wrote about doesn't appear in the log file. Somehow "redirect" must have a nice side effect.
    /Roger

    some one can help me please
    i have no idea what i must to do.
    an unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

    The Exception Handler gave all the info that you need. No need to print the whole stack trace.
    The exception handler says
    Exception Details: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException
    TABLE1.NAME
    Look in the session bean (assuming that is where your underlying rowset is). Look in the _init() method for statements similar to the following:
    personRowSet.setCommand("SELECT * FROM TRAVEL.PERSON");
    personRowSet.setTableName("PERSON");
    What do you have?

    Thanks in advance for any help and attention!

  • Is it possible to get the stack trace of procedure invocations in pld file?

    For example, if I have a package AAA in a pld file which has three procedure proc1, proc2, and proc3 defined. proc 3 will be invoked somewhere in proc2. proc2 will be invoked somewhere in proc1.
    Is it possible to print such stack trace in proc1? It will be very helpful if it is possible.

    See this post if you can figure out something out of it ....

  • Get the entire stack trace of exception ?

    Hi!
    If the JVM prints this :
    Caused by: java.sql.BatchUpdateException: ORA-00001: unique constraint (FOO.BAR) violated
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwBatchUpdateException(DatabaseError.java:367)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OraclePreparedStatement.executeBatch(OraclePreparedStatement.java:9040)
    at org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrappedStatement.executeBatch(WrappedStatement.java:517)
    at org.hibernate.jdbc.BatchingBatcher.doExecuteBatch(BatchingBatcher.java:58)
    at org.hibernate.jdbc.AbstractBatcher.executeBatch(AbstractBatcher.java:242)
    ... 73 more
    then how do I get the missing 73 lines ?

    Why would you want to? they are shorthand indicating that they were thrown from the same method: From the API Docs
    Note the presence of lines containing the characters "...".
    These lines indicate that the remainder of the stack trace for this exception matches the indicated number of frames from the
    bottom of the stack trace of the exception that was caused by this exception (the "enclosing" exception).
    This shorthand can greatly reduce the length of the output in the common case where a wrapped exception is thrown from same method
    as the "causative exception" is caught. ~Tim

    Rigoberto,
    This sounds like a OC4J/J2EE issue that is not related to JHeadstart. To simplify the test case, you could create a simple drag-and-drop ADF application without JHeadstart and see if the same problem occurs there. Can you please log a TAR at MetaLink ( http://metalink.oracle.com/ ), or ask this question at the OC4J/J2EE forum at OC4J ? Thanks.
