Printing through Photoshop with applescript

I'm trying to set up a script that will automatically print a certain quantity based on user input. I can't figure out how to access the "Copies" part of the print menu. Is that possible?
This is what I have so far.
set myQuantity to the text returned of (display dialog "How many?" default answer "1")
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
activate
end tell
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
set myFilePath to alias "BACKUPS:Customer:MMM-Z:Verizon:1580 Sales Evolution Wall Charts:Sales Evolution v2.0 Wall Charts:SE 1 v2 Consultant Front Wheel Flat.psd"
open myFilePath
end tell
tell application "System Events"
tell application process "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
click menu item "Print..." of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1
set the UI element 1 to myQuantity
end tell
end tell

Hi Razzle MF Dazzle, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm thinking you might need to use the Finder>Standard Suite>Print, then...
print v : Print the specified object(s)
print reference : list of objects to print
[with properties record] : optional properties to be included with the print command sent to the application that prints the direct object
Either that or loop your Print one a number of times.

  • Printing from Photoshop using AppleScript

I am working on a project that will automatically print an image that is moved to a folder.
Right now, I have the following working: the image from my camera saves to a folder on my desktop, then applescript opens the image in Photoshop and runs an action on it that resizes it, crops it, and then re-saves it into a different folder. Here's where my problem starts...
My printer - an Epson R800 - does not have a default paper size of 5x7 borderless. That selection has to be made in Photoshop, however, Photoshop actions will not capture paper settings. (Which I think is sooooo stupid, but that's another issue.)
When the image is dropped in the second folder, it currently automatically prints, but on "letter" size paper.
I need to script the following:
Tell Photoshop CS4 to open the image (well, I can do that), but then select the correct paper size (5x7 borderless), and print. I've tried a few different things and they aren't working.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Michelle

    fit given fill proportionally
    fit given center content
    end tell
    end tell
print using PrintPreset without print dialog
    end tell
    end tell
There are two strings that you will need to change one for a 'new document preset' and the second for a 'print preset'…

  • Can I add a WiFi printer through WPS with the new AirPort Extreme and AirPort Utility 6.3?

It says here that AirPort Utility 6.2 supports WPS-capable WiFi printers, but on the new AirPort Extreme techs pecs Apple insists that the way printing is shared is by connecting the printer to the AirPort Extreme with a USB cable, which really defeats the whole purpose of WiFi printing doesn't it?

  • Printing through Kodak with one button in iPhoto

    I'm using iPhoto 5.0.4.
While visiting a friend who has v.7 I noticed there was a 'Kodak' button at the bottom of the window. She explained that that connected with the Kodak site and you could then send the pictures you wanted to be printed. Does anyone know about this feature?
I would absolutely LOVE to have that, but I some suspect that it comes with the iLife for $ 99.00 or so and it is definately not in my budget. Does anyone know if that is only with iLife? Or are there other ways to get it?
Thank you in advance for your information.
    Regards,
    Milli.

    Thank you Terence!
That possibility had crossed my mind, the problem with it was that the person who had it on her computer is a complete and utter computer illiterate, and there is NO WAY she could have done this. That for me was the reason to turn to this forum first.
I did find it on the Kodak site, thank you very much for your help!

  • Printing in Photoshop CC in Mavericks with Epson R3000

When I upgraded to Mavericks and tried printing in Photoshop CC to my Epson R3000 the print dialog would show and choose an arbitrary paper size no matter what settings I used. Apple Care sent me an updated driver that solved the problem until I upgraded Mavericks to 13.9.2 and the exact same problem returned. I downloaded another print driver update from Apple with no change. Because my printer works fine in Lightroom 5 Apple Care has declared that it is an Adobe problem and they can't help.
Not to sound antiprogress but if I could I would happily go back to Snow Leopard and Photoshop CS6. Photoshop CC keeps crashing and since loading Mavericks my computer's internal processes, like opening a folder, have greatly slowed down. My very current iMac 27 has been working flawlessly in O.S. 10.6, my three Epson printers, and Photoshop CS6.
    Those were the days!
    Thank you,
    Blahs Blase'

I've seen some similar issues with other Printers as well. There seems to be problems with Printer drivers communicating with Photoshop CC on Mavericks. Could be that all three are contributing to a problem here.
Try changing the default settings for the driver outside of Photoshop. What I've seen is that those settings will be carried over to Photoshop and work, but making changes to the printer driver (Print Settings button) are sometimes forgotten/lost, and the settings revert to the defaults.

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor

  • Problem with OS X.5 Leopard and printing through Airport USB printer

I have just upgraded to Leopard from Tiger and now I can't print. Previously, all 3 of my computers could print to my Samsung printer that is connected to the USB port of the Airport Extreme base station. They could see the Samsung printer through Bonjour and it worked great. Now my computers running Leopard can't see the printer on the wireless network. I've downloaded the latest driver from Samsung and that didn't help. When I connect the printer directly to my Mac tower it prints fine. However I don't want to have the tower on all the time, sharing the printer through the network. It seems to be an issue with Leopard + Bonjour + Airport base station.
    Details:
I have a G5 Tower connected via ethernet to the Airport router.
I also have an intel Mac Mini and a G4 Powerbook 1.67 connected to the Airport through wireless.
The Samsung laser printer is connected to the USB port on the Airport base station.

I too have been bit by the Leopard/wireless printing bug....
Originally, we had two older iMacs running Tiger; both printing to a Lexmark X502n wirelessly via an Airport Express. The set up worked flawlessly for approx. 15 months. A couple of weeks ago, I upgraded to a new (beautiful!) 24" iMac running Leopard. I can print one document, and then like the other posters, the printer shows it's printing, but the printer goes to pause and says it can not connect with host. The Express is on green light, and all the settings are there in the Airport Utility. If I go through the process to "discover" in the Airport Utility, I can then print another page.
But - once the new iMac goes into "printer pause" and needs to be reset, the other older iMac can no longer print. If I reset everything on the new iMac, the other iMac can print as usual - until I print from the new iMac. Lexmark still has no drivers available for this model and Leopard. Past postings on various boards projected they would be available by mid-2008. Obviously, that has not happened. I have contacted Lexmark and they tell me they don't know when drivers will be available. I spent most the day yesterday on the phone with 3 different people at Apple Care. No help other than to say I need the new drivers.
I'd move the laser printer over by my computer and connect via USB, but it is also our fax machine and on a dedicated line. Since we only have the one jack for the second phone line, moving the printer is not an option.
Any help appreciated! I'm ready to go out and buy new cartridges for my old trusty HP inkjet....
The new iMac is connected to a D-Link WBR-2310.
The airport express is connected to the Lexmark X502n via USB.
The wireless network is not secured.

  • Print work from Adobe Photoshop with Elements

can I use Elements to print work created with an old version of Adobe Photoshop (years ago, pre-Elements)

Yes, as long as it was saved in a regular image format. Support for the old photoshop raw (as opposed to camera raw) format was dropped in recent versions of PSE. And of course PSE doesn't do CMYK or LAB color.

  • How do I print accurate colors with Photoshop CS4 and Yosemite?

I recently upgraded to OS 10.10, Yosemite. I can no longer get accurate colors printed for photos from Photoshop. I have Photoshop CS4 and I use an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer. I am able to use Photoshop for everything but printing accurately. I downloaded all recommended drivers for the printer, reloaded profiles for the printer and even tried a trial of Photoshop CC. Nothing resolves the problem. My prints look kind of solarized. Black and white photos have green areas where there should be black. Please help.

I thought my problem could be Lightroom is in ProphotoRGB color space, and my printer is Adobe1998 color space.  To test this, I changed the color space of my patches from prophoto to AdobeRGB. I checked my colors in Photoshop, and made them match the RGB number I specified.  It was interesting to note that (128,128,255) had a noticeable shift to purple.  the other colors shifted slightly.  Now I printed the test page with Lightroom managing color and the printer managing color.  Both images came out similar.
This study came about when I was printing some images, and the sky had a definite purple shift.  So, I took the image into Photoshop and converted the colorspace from prophoto to Adobe.  Printed the image, and the image came out much better.
So the question now is, do I need to convert each image I print in Photoshop, or am I doing something wrong in Lightroom?

  • Has anyone figured out how to print through Airport Express with Vista?

My wife has Vista on her laptop and everytime we try printing through the Airport Express/Bonjour it doesn't work. It might print one page and then stop, but never any further.
    The latest Bonjour is installed.
    Is there anything else?

Was this printer ever at one time connected to the Vista PC directly ? also with Vista ive seen issues with bonjour printers. Its due to either the firewall of this new junk they added in called windows defender. This application ive seen various results from it like it thought my install of Gears of War was a virus and etc. One thing you could even try doing is turn off the windows firewall and see if this resolves this issue. Seeing as this computer is behind a "hardware" firewall such as a router anyways you wouldnt really need to have the firewall on unless you had a strong need for the extra security

  • Can I Print Through Airport Express With A Lexmark x5150?

Am I able to print through A.E. with my Lexmark X5150 All-in-one? I'm having issues. It's recognized by my laptop, but won't print through A.E. It does, however, print when the USB is plugged into my lBook directly. I think I have the latest drivers installed. Can anyone offer up any suggestions/help? Thanks in advance......

The Lexmark X5150 is not on the list of supported printers found at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html . Based on your findings, I suspect this printer just won't work with anything but a direct connection to your Mac's USB port.
Not many all-in-one printers are supported for connection via an Airport Express. For those few models that do work, only printing is possible - other functions like scanning won't work. For some all-in-ones, an alternative driver can be found that will at least support printing - but I cannot find any alternative driver that will work with the x5150.

  • Printing out of Photoshop with new Epson interface

Does anyone have the proper workflow for printing out of Photoshop CS4 to an Epson 3800 with the new Epson printer preferences interface? I just upgraded to a new computer that is running Vista 64 and downloaded the Epson driver for that OS and now the print preferences window is totally changed. Most importantly I do not see any option for turning off printer color management so that Photoshop can manage color.

This post by Miguel may or may not be helpful:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2096662#2096662
It is my understanding that when printing out of Photoshop, with "Proof" selected under Color Management, and "Photoshop Manages Colors" under Color Handling, Photoshop is performing 2 color conversions on output.
The first is to the "Proof" profile (which for commercial print purposes describes the press condition), based on Color Settings. Then this in turn is converted to the RGB ink jet printer profile.
With this final conversion, it changes depending on the Proof Setup options (paper color, black ink) in the Photoshop print dialog. If neither is checked, it is Relative Colorimetric, BPC enabled. If black ink is checked, Relative Colorimetric, BPC disabled. If paper color is checked, Absolute Colorimetric.
Maybe these correlations are common knowledge but they were certainly news to me. What it means is, if you are having a lot of trouble with a print interface, you could do the necessary conversions manually and send uncalibrated RGB to the printer. Not an efficient workflow but will work if you're in bind.

  • I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It quits when the Twain portion of the program starts loading. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer will work with Photoshop??

I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It closes every time it gets to the point where it is loading the Twain portion. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer and Photoshop will work together? Thanks for any help I can get!

    You're welcome.
But, no, don't look to  Epson for fixes to their  driver in newer versions, and Adobe has deprecated the TWAIN plug-in.  Hoping for a solution there is futile.  That has not happened and it's never going to happen.  The consensus is that it's pretty foolish to tie up Photoshop to scan.  Honestly.
Any improvement in the behavior of newer versions of the Epson drivers in that regard would be pure coincidence.
You need to understand that you never, ever scan "within" Photoshop, as Photoshop has no scanning capabilities whatsoever.  When you use the Import > Twain plug-in all you are doing is blocking Photoshop while you call up the stand-alone Epson scanning software.  If you think about it, its most inefficient.
VueScan has a pretty powerful scanning plug-in that can be called from the Impost menu—if you insist.  VueScan is not free, but it's a pretty good value, IMO.
As for the Epson CD printing software, I have no clue.  Sorry.

  • Unable to print from Photoshop CS4 in an iMac OS 10.6.3 to large format printer Epson 11880

Hi there! I was wondering if you could help me with this case.
Old computer: Mac G4  (purchased in 2002)
    Old OS: OS 10.4.11  (Tiger)
    CPU: Dual 1.25 GHz
    Memory: 2 RAM
    Software: Photoshop 7
Hardware: Large format printer: Epson 11880 (64” wide monster). Prints large posters, banners, etc.
As you can see, it is time for an upgrade...
    New computer: iMac
New OS: OS 10.6.3  (Snow Leopard)
    Processor Name: Intel Core i7
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
    Memory: 16 GB
    Software: Photoshop CS4
Hardware: Large format printer: Epson 11880
Situation: We hooked up everything and managed to print on the 11880 printer 2 times and printed two large format prints. On the third attempt, we encountered a serious problem...
Problem: After opening a file in Photoshop and sending it out for printing in the large format Epson printer, the file goes to the printer queue and stays there for 6 seconds, and then it disappears. It does not print. :-(
What we have done so far:
We made sure we downloaded the latest printer driver for this printer from Epson’s website.
The printer driver is correct. The computer talks to the printer and we are able to execute all the commands from the printer utilities panel. (i.e. check ink levels, clean heads, etc.)
And yes, the printer is okay, because we have been using it with the old G4 machine for about a year.
This problem got so frustrating, that we thought that something we transferred during the computer installation might be the culprit. So at one point we erased the hard drive on the new computer and reinstalled the operating system, and have not put any files from any old computers into this machine. The computer has nothing else in it. Except: The operating systems, and the Mac applications that come when the Mac comes out of the box. The only other program installed in it is Photoshop CS4 and the printer driver.
We were wondering if this was just a printing problem, period. So we added a small printer to the computer - and old Epson 2200 we have. We sent a file to this printer and there is not problem.
Perhaps, the file size might have been an issue? It does not matter. We can send a large 60 MB file to the printer or a small photograph measuring only 8 x 10, and these will linger in the queue for 6 seconds, and disappear never to be printed.
Temporary relief came when we got rid of Adobe Photoshop’s Preferences file. After getting rid of the file and allowing Photoshop to reconstruct it, we managed to print two large files on the printer. Then it failed again. Tried getting rid of the preferences again, and the trick did not work anymore. :-(
Another temporary relief came when we created another user in the computer. On the new user account it printed again a couple of times only to fail later.
And yes, the printer WILL print from other Mac programs. If for instance, we open a file on Preview, and send it to the printer and the file will be printed. And yes, we have managed to print very large files with this method.
In the last couple of days, we have spent 3 hours on the phone with the guys at Epson. They verified the driver and because the computer seems to be communicating with the printer and printing from other Mac applications, they suspected that the problem is with Adobe.
We called Adobe once, and spent 30 minutes with an Indian fellow who concluded that the problem was with how the computer handles the spooling. According to him, Photoshop sends the file to the computer and the computer seems to get rid of it. So he passed the buck and told us that the problem was with Apple.
We called Apple and spoke for 30 minutes with a friendly technician, who transferred us to a higher level techno-geek. I spent 1 more hour on the phone with Apple, and we tried everything. We went through Adobe’s knowledgebase and tried every suggested solution (see Adobe’s KB406452). It was with him that we found a temporary fix of removing the Preferences file, but the solution was short lived. He finally thought the problem was with Adobe as the printer is able to print from all applications EXCEPT Adobe Photoshop.
We called Adobe for the second time...and after waiting on hold from 1 entire hour, we got an Indian technician, that bless his heart, had a very thick accent and had no expertise, in my opinion. He was good at collecting data and he even made me share my computer screen so that he could troubleshoot the problem. After being constantly put on hold by him (because he had to consult with someone else), he passed the buck and said that it was Apple’s problem. I just told him that it was not as likely because all programs print EXCEPT Photoshop. After trying what I would consider a “hail Mary” of DELETING all the printers from my Library folder, and not replacing them, he recorded a case number for another Adobe technician to call us in a few days.
Because the above technician completely blew the Library, I just erased and reinstalled the OS. This time, I did not allow the OS to be updated - from 10.6.2 (that comes in the box), to 10.6.3. We tried printing using the 10.6.2 and had the same problem. :-(
Conclusion: I think it is a problem of Adobe CS4 not getting along with Apple’s new operating system. The Epson printer is doing fine, because it has been a product that has been in the market for almost 3 years. What is disappointing is that none of the companies wants to man up and say that it is a problem and that they are willing to work on it. Instead they pass the buck to the next company.
I can’t believe I am the only person experiencing this. Has anyone had this problem, and have you found a solution or workaround for it?

Dear Doyle, John and Gator Soup,
Thank you for your kind replies to my problem.
PS is assigned 70% RAM. In fact, I have never had so much RAM in my life. Files open at lightning fast speed! :-)  We have never considered a RIP as we do not have an intense workload. In fact all the files we have tried to print print well on our old G4 with Tiger and Photoshop 7, which at the moment has saved our butt. However it would be nice to get the new faster machine with Photoshop CS4 to talk to the Epson 11880.
Yes, we are printing directly to the printer. We have hooked up the computer via a 6 ft USB cable to the unit.
The specs and pixel dimensions of a typical file we print are:
Type of file: tif  (in this case it is an RGB file) // However, we avoid any color management from the computer or the printer when printing it at this time.
    File size: 60 MB
    Pixel size: 6796 x 3100
    Print size: 34" x 16" @ 200 dpi
I have not tried saving it as a pdf yet. Will try that next.
I did go to the Console on the Mac though, and recorded its activity between 5:14 pm - 5:19 pm when I tried to print a file.
Remember, the symptoms are:  We send a file to the printer...The file goes to the printer queue, and it lingers there for 6 seconds. The file then disappears.
Although there is a cryptic message of "invalid colorspace" in the log, I don't believe that the file is corrupt. First because we have tried several files, second because smaller versions of these can be printed in another Epson 2200 printer, and third because the large format images can still be printed using our old G4 machine with Tiger and Photoshop 7.
This might provide me with extra ammunition for when I call both Adobe and Apple on Monday. Apple has been quite good on customer support - particularly when they upgrade you to higher level geeks. ;-)   Do you have any idea I what time I should call Adobe so that I can get people on the western hemisphere to answer the phone? It seems that after a certain time they start speaking with an Indian accent over there.

  • Aim to process all files in folders on desktop to run through photoshop and save in multiple locations

Aim to process all files in folders on desktop to run through photoshop and save in multiple locations
    Part one:-
Gather information from desktop to get brand names and week numbers from the folders
Excluding folders on desktop beginning with "2" or "Hot"
Not sure about the list of folders
but I have got this bit to work with
set folderPath to "Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Desktop:DIVA_WK30_PSD" --<<this would be gained from the items on the desktop
    set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, ":"}
set folderName to last text item of folderPath
set my text item delimiters to "_WK"
set FolderEndName to last text item of folderName
set brandName to first text item of folderName
set my text item delimiters to "_PSD"
set weekNumber to first text item of FolderEndName
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
After running this I have enough information to create folders in multiple locations, (i need to know where they are so that photoshop can later save them in those multiple locations
So I need the following folders created

    Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber
    Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName
Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName: brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR" --(Set path for Later)PathA
    Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName: brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_HR"--(Set path for Later)PathB
    Network
    Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:"Week" + weekNumber
    Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:"Week" + weekNumber:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR"  --(Set path for Later)PathC
Volumes:GEN:Website_Images --(no need to create folder just set path)PathD
FTP (Still as a normal Volume) So like another Network
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR"  --(Set path for Later)PathE
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_HR"  --(Set path for Later)PathF
I like to think that is end of Part 1
    Part 2
Take the images  (PSD's) from those folders relevant to the Brand then possibly run more applescript that opens flattens and then saves it in the locations above.
    For example….
An image in folder DIVA_WK30_PSD will then run an applescript in Photoshop, lets call it DivaProcessImages within this we then save to PathA, PathB, PathC, PathD, PathE, PathF the folder path of C should therefore look like this
Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:Week30:DIVA_WK30_LR and of course save the image as original filename.
    Then from the next folder
An image in folder Free_WK30_PSD will then run an applescript in Photoshop, lets call it FreeProcessImages within this we then save to PathA, PathB, PathC, PathD, PathE, PathF the folder path of C should therefore look like this
Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:Week30:Free_WK30_LR and of course save the image as original filename.
The photoshop applescript i'm hoping will be easier as it should be a clearer step by step process without any if's and but's
    Now for the coffee!!

    Hi,

Now to the other part, where each folder was created (and those that already existed) how do I set them as varibles?
    For example,
    set localBrandFolder_High_Res to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_HR", localBrandFolder)
This line was used to create more than one folder as it ran though the folders on the desktop. The next part is I will need to reference them to save files to them.
    You can use a records
    Examples
if you want the path of localBrandFolder_High_Res  of "Diva", if "Diva" is the second folder of the Desktop
You get the path with this : localBrandFolder_High_Res of record 2 of myRecords
if you want the path of localWeekFolder  in the first folder of the Desktop
You get the path with this : localWeekFolder of record 1 of myRecords
    Here is the script
    set myRecords to {}
set dtF to paragraphs of (do shell script "ls -F ~/Desktop | grep '/' | cut -d'/' -f1")
repeat with i from 1 to number of items in dtF
set this_item to item i of dtF
if this_item does not start with "2_" and this_item does not start with "Hot" then
            try
                set folderPath to this_item
                set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, ":"}
set folderName to last text item of folderPath
set my text item delimiters to "_WK"
set FolderEndName to last text item of folderName
set brandName to first text item of folderName
set my text item delimiters to "_PSD"
set weekNumber to first text item of FolderEndName
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
            end try
            try
                set this_local_folder to "Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012"

                set var11 to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_HR", var9)
set end of myRecords to ¬

localBrandFolder_High_Res of record 2 of myRecords -- get full path of localBrandFolder_High_Res in the second folder of Desktop
    on getFolderPath(tName, folderPath)
tell application "Finder" to tell folder folderPath
if not (exists folder tName) then
