Printing using a Sharp MX2600 without PostScript 3?

My work is using a Sharp networked printer and it doesn't have PostScript 3 installed. I've managed to work around settings to get my computer (Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8) running B/W prints, but is there any way to get it printing in color?

You could also use Open Printing, by downloading and installing this Open Source package which works under Mac OS X:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o
The package uses Ghostscript to emulate Postscript printing, then rasterizes and sends the results using PCL. The package contains pxlcolor as well, for color printing to PCL printers. The Sharp 2300N and 2700N are both listed as supported.

  • Using a Sharp AR-C260M Printer/Scanner in OSX

I have frustrated for some time about using the Sharp AR-C260M we have in our office. I'm the only Mac user and can't get others on board because of troubles like this. Windows users can print in color and use advanced features like the duplexing, but because the printer does not have the expensive postscript setup (it uses PCL) I can only print in black and white using the Gutenprint Sharp drivers (either one). How do I print in color? Is there any way to use the scanner?
    Thanks in advance.

Try using the Generic PCL 5c driver from the hpijs driver package. You need to install three components -- Ghostscript, Foomatic-RIP, and hpijs. They can all be found at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs

  • Black and white printing using Gutenprint

My HP printer has no drivers in SL, but I can print using Gutenprint.
    The Gutenprint FAQ says
For most users, the work-around is to set the Color Model setting to Grayscale. This is not the same as printing in black and white only, but it may give you what you want.
For those users who must use black and white only, the good news is that the Quartz Filter for Black and White still exists. It's just not tied into the print window. The easiest way to use the Black and White option is as follows:
Go to print the document. Use the item "Open PDF in Preview" item under the PDF Services drop down menu at the bottom left of the print window.
When the document appears in Preview, choose Save As... from the File menu.
You can either change the name or use the Replace option when prompted. Select the output format as PDF and use the Quartz Filter to select "Black and White".
Make sure you have the name and location to save the document as you want it. Click the Save button.
The resulting document will be in Black and White and you can print it normally.
I can guess what this means, but I am not certain, so I would be glad if someone has a definitive answer.
My guess is that Grayscale usually prints using the colour cartridge, but that following this procedure lets one print using the black cartridge only.
This is an important issue. Given the cost of colour cartridges, I only want to use them when I need colour, not for plain text.
I would also be interested to know the difference between the two colour modes available, labelled Color and CMYK, but this isn't so important.

Welcome to the Apple Discussion boards.
The product brochure for the DP-C213 shows that PostScript is an optional add on. Are you sure that you have the PostScript module installed? Without the optional PostScript module, you will only get the raw PostScript code when you use the PostScript driver.
The Gutenprint generic PCL drivers do not print color. They are grayscale only.
The product brochure for the DP-C213 does show that it comes standard with the PCL 6 printer module. The best color driver would be the pxlmono/pxlcolor driver. You can download all you need from http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o. You will need to install three packages. The pxlmono, Foomatic-RIP, and the Ghostscript package.
Now for the confusing part. When you go to set up the printer use the *"Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/pxlcolor (recommended)"* driver. That will give you color printing. The OpenPrinting database is in error and only shows your printer to be a grayscale printer, so you *do not* want to choose the "Panasonic DP-C213 Foomatic/pxlmono (recommended)" driver. That driver will only produce grayscale printing.
EDIT: The URL for the product brochure is ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/business/office/brochures/DP-C213_Brochure .pdf

  • Can't print using LaserWrtier 12/640 PS and 10.6

I have a MacBook Pro and LaserWriter 12/640 PS printer which I have used successfully with a serial port to ethernet adapter from Asante (A Friendly TM Adapter) and Appletalk. Now I am trying to get it to print using 10.6. I added the printer using IPP and typed in the IP number that appears on the info page that prints automatically on printer startup. I am not sure if this is the number I am supposed to use as the printer was once owned by a public school. Additionally, in the "Print Using" window "Generic PostScript Printer" came up. I left it alone, using it as the driver software instead of the LaserWriter 12/640 driver which doesn't appear to work either. In the "Name" window the IP address appeared. I left that alone also. I left the "location" window blank and have also put in the IP number. As soon as I typed in the IP number, the printer appears in the "Printers" window. Everything looks good when I print, but shortly I get a message saying "Unable to connect to printer." In the "location" window I have used several ideas, and changing them hasn't allowed me to print.
I have tried the above LPD instead of IPP. And it doesn't print that way either. I really am at a loss right now.
    Much thanks for any help?

I have a perfectly good LaserWriter 16/600 PS that I don't intend to pitch cause it still prints just as good as new. My problem was that I could not figure out what the IP address was. This printer is connected to the ethernet network via a Dayna EasyNet connector. I know this stuff is ancient, but it still works fine. And if your still using an old AppleTalk LaserWriter, you most likely still have and old mac that uses OS 9+ via classic!
So, I went back to OS 9.2.2 on an old PPC iMac (OS 10.4.11) I have that is connected to the printer to use the Apple Printer Utility (PPC) v2.2 to print out a configuration page and look at the TCP/IP communication configuration to determine what the default IP address was. It was 0.0.0.0. When I went back to the new iMac using OS 10.6.1 and stuck this IP address into the print and fax system preference to add a printer (IP), it did not work. The printer went into the pause mode.
So I went back to the Apple Printer Utility using the old iMac and gave the LaserWriter a new IP address. In my case, I chose 10.0.1.10. The reason I did this is because the IP address for the router is 10.0.1.1 and the IP address for new iMac is 10.0.1.2 and the old iMac is 10.0.1.3. I chose 10.0.1.10 to be high enough to be unused. Once I had changed the LaserWriter's IP address, I went to the new iMac and employed the network utility to ping the new address. It was active and responded. After entering this new address into the add printer under the print and fax system preference using the IP tab, the LaserWriter came alive and prints directly from OS 10.6.1.
The key to this was finding a way to talk to the old LaserWriter and set the IP address to something other than 0.0.0.0. By the way, after I gave the LaserWriter a new IP address, I had to dump the old setup out of the old PPC iMac and re-add it as a new printer. AppleTalk auto-configured as always and now I can use the printer with both iMacs without both having to be on to share.

  • How to suppress extra form feed for character report printing using ORARRP?

    Dear All,
We are using Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2.0.2) on Windows 2003 Server and most of our client PC's are Windows XP Professional machines. We are migrating our existing oracle application from 2-tier architecture to 3-tier architecture (6i to 10g). We have installed ORARRP utility for remote direct printing and to a limited extent we are successfull in getting the things work out for our system users, However, we are facing a problem using the ORARRP utility for which we are not able to find a solution till date.
We have configured ORARRP utility on every user's PC and the printing of bitmap reports is working well. However, while printing CHARACTER reports using ORARRP utility, after the report gets printed, an EXTRA FORM FEED is issued by ORARRP to the printer and because of this the printer stationary skips one extra page and advances to the next page. Please note that this EXTRA FORM FEED happens only while printing a CHARACTER REPORT.
Has anyone come across such a problem using ORARRP ? How can we avoid this extra FORM FEED from CHARACTER REPORT printing using ORARRP ? Is there any other tool which supports remote direct printing just like ORARRP?
I shall be highly obliged if anyone could reply to my queries ASAP.
    Regards,
    KrishnaKumar S

Please help ! I tried the "send_form_feed" and "postscript_dos_print" parameters without success. The extra form feed is always there. Thanks.

  • I cant' print using firefox. print preview won't display, won't print, printing dialog box won't display, etc

Seems like since I updated to firefox 5 I can't print web pages, print preview won't work. I click on the print option under file and nothing displays or prints.

Try the Firefox SafeMode and see if you can initiate printing from within Firefox. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    # You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    # Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • Can't do wireless printing using my macbook

    hello all!
i need a little bit of help here as i'm new to wireless printing.
i bought a new wireless-N router from Aztech model GR7000, it has two USB ports and allows files sharing and printer sharing. I have connect my Canon MP258 (a normal non-wireless All-in-One printer) to the router and i have successfully set up my desktop and my brother's laptop (both running windows vista) to print wirelessly. I have also set up my bootcamp (windows7) on this macbook pro i'm using to print wirelessly successfully. However, the problem comes when i wish to set up my macbook (OS X 10.6.6) to connect to this printer. The following are the steps i did to add this printer:
    Added under IP
    Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol
    Address: my router's IP address (e.g. 192.168.x.x)
    Queue: left blank
    Name: my router's IP address (e.g. 192.168.x.x)
    Location: left blank
Print Using: Auto Select and it sets it as Generic PostScript Printer
after which i went to the Print & Fax page to change the settings using Options & Supplies, i changed the driver of the printer to Canon MP250 series. I set this printer as my default printer and there is a green idle light below my printer name. I assumed this means my macbook has successfully registered my printer and detected it as online. However, when i go on with printing, nothing happens and the job queue will show my document is printing but will never be done printing. Anyone can please provide me some advices? I am lost. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you have the Canon AIO connected to the USB port of a wireless router/print server you cannot use the Canon provided drivers (or use Generic Postscript as you have done so far). Normally for this type of connection you need to use a CUPS driver, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab.
Gutenprint is preferred because it is free however your new MP258 is not listed as a supported model. So you could try using a different model of Gutenprint/Canon driver, such as the MP160, but you could waste a lot of ink, paper and time trying to find a good match.
So your other option is [PrintFab|www.printfab.net] which supports more recent models of Canon inkjets and costs €49. Your MP258 is not listed on PrintFab either, but your model could be region based (we have a similar thing in Australia with the MP495) and therefore may work with the MP250 or MP260.
Another option would be to replace the Aztech with an Airport Express or Extreme. Airport devices do allow you to use the Canon supplied drivers.

    thank you for the help

    Hi @HappyPeople
    Welcome to the HP forums!
I'd like to help you narrow down what is causing the issue with your Photosmart C4680, so I'll get you to try a few things and let me know how they go for you
First, I'd like you to follow the steps under Solution six: Print and evaluate a print quality diagnostic report and troubleshoot defects in this document as this will help us test the hardware.
If that page also just has black and blue (or just blue) please follow the cartridge cleaning steps within this A 'Cartridge Problem,' 'Cartridge Failed,' or 'Incompatible Cartridge' Error Message Displays on the... document.
Once you've cleaned the cartridges, please try printing that page again to see if there is any change. If there is still no change, please check the warranty date on your cartridges. If they are both in warranty, call HP Tech Support and inquire if they can replace the cartridges for you as this problem seemed to come up when you changed a cartridge.
Let me know how things go for you
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post resolved your issue, as it will help others find the solution faster
Click the “Kudos Thumbs Up" on the right to say “Thanks” for helping!

  • Is it possible to print from an apple device without a wifi network?

Is it possible to print from an apple device without a wifi network?

I cannot make out the text, but my previous apply assumed that you wanted to create a wireless network.....without Internet access...... using an Apple device, like an AirPort Express.
It's simple....just "create a wireless network with a name and password of your choice. You will be notified of an "error" that you do not have an Internet connection. Simply click to "ignore" that error you will have a green light on the AirPort.
If the Apple guys told you that this is not possible, then they are simply wrong.
Devices will be able to connect to the wireless network and print to the printer....assuming that it is AirPrint compatible model.
My guess would be that the printer that you already have is not an AirPrint compatible model.  In that case, the Apple store guys were partially correct.  But, there are Apps that you can install on the iPhone and iPad that will allow printing to most printers, even if they are not AirPrint compatible.
If you have a question about how to configure an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme to create a wireless network.....without an Internet connection.....we can probably help.
