Printing with Airport Express without an internet connection?

I have a printer which I would like to print from my MacBook Air wirelessly.
I don't have any network connections neither a internet connection since I use a wireless broadband card.
So my question is, do I need to have a internet connection for the airport express or can I just use it as a wireless to print.
Thank in advance.

Though you don't need an internet connection (which technically you have with your broadband card), I have read of an issue with connecting to more than one network (i.e. AirPort Express and your wireless broadband). If there is an issue, then it is possible you will have to switch to the Express for printing and back to your wireless broadband when your are not.

  • HT201335 Can i use airplay with the apple tv and airport express without an internet connection? Basically Set it up as a closed network?

I was told I could set a local network with the airport express, apple Tv, and my iPad to stream videos or pictures to a TV for a presentation.
No internet connection is available at the location.
Is that possible? Or do I need to access itunes homeshare with an internet connection to make this work?
I've set it up at home where I have an internet connection and it works fine but I want to move the setup to my church for a class. The data I'm using is stored on my ipad.
I know I can do this wired with the HDMI adapter but would like to do it wireless.
    Thanks for any help!

Ok so we now have a solution to the problem.   A friend of mine came round to work this out with me last night and we were able to get it working, but it is not as easy as I had hoped.  Fisrtly we plugged the airport express into my router using the ethernet cable  (for this I am using an Airport Express Base Station") and in airport utilities selected the airport express.  In edit, we then gave the airport express a new range of IP address which did not conflict with any of the other applications that I have already assigned.  We also named the Airport Express with a distinguishable name.  We then waited for the changes to be registered then unplugged the Airport Express from the router.  I then plugged my AppleTV via HDMI into a tv to test it and selected the new wifi network with the new Airport Express distinguishable name.  I was able to watch a video that I have on my ipad directly on my tv without being connected to the internet, and was able to play Airplay presentations.
No the easiest solution, and certainly not something that anyone at Apple has talked me through in my lengthy conversations with them at Applecare.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there a way that I can control iTunes with the iPhone without any internet connections?

First let me say that I am ready to throw this POS in the lake.  Is there a way that I can control iTunes with my iPhone without any internet connections?  On my houseboat I have a wifi router and want to connect my phone to my computer to control my music which plays from my computer through my stereo.  I can easily do it with my laptop without having to jump through any internet APPLE BS , but I dont want to have my laptop out on the deck. I just want to use the phone as a remote control.
Remote wont do it because it keeps saying Im not connected to the internet, even though is is connected to my computer.  Same problem with JumiAmp.

It should have an option to manage iTunes library without network connection, like Bluetooth or connect directly to the computer without a router or wi-fi, i live outsite of the city and i dont have the ability to control my iTunes librry from the iphone

  • Printing with Airport express extender

I have an airport express connected to a cable modem. Both my macbook and macbook pro connect to the internet wirelessly without an issue. I recently had to move my internet connection such that my printer is no longer connected to the airport express, as it is too far away.
My question is: If I purchase another airport express to extend wireless connectivity, could I connect my printer to the 2nd airport express or is it required to be connected the the main (or 1st) airport express?
    Thanks

...could I connect my printer to the 2nd airport express or is it required to be connected the the main (or 1st) airport express?
You can connect it to either.

  • How do I connect my airport Express to the internet connection of my Macbook Pro without an ethernet cable?

I would like to use my Airport Express (802.11n) to provide audio in another room for a pair of powered speakers, however the iTunes remote software for Android requires (for some dumb reason) an internet connection so I can't control iTunes
So my computer is connected to a cabelmodem via ethernet and the Express has established a network connection with the computer
How do i give the Airport internet access without an ethernet cable?

To share your Internet connection from your laptop, select 'Sharing' in 'System Preferences' and enable 'Internet Sharing'.

You will need to set a WEP key. You may need to root the system do some things at the command line. I recommend against that.
Laptops don't work well as routers but it is possible.
Hook up the AirPort express to the laptop using an Ethernet cable and configure with the AirPort utility as if you are setting up a print server or base station. The Android should see the AirPort Express after that.

This might work better if you used the AirPort Express as a base station instead of trying to use the laptop as a base station. Then your Android would have Internet access.

  • How to connect to airport express without needing internet (for wifi remote)

I am hooking up the Mackie DL 806 mixing console. my airport only works if i first have a internet connection. after I disconnect the internet it still works. I need it to work no matter what in a non internet environment

I am trying to understand this.. it sounds like you have it setup in bridge mode.. so it must get an IP from the main router to begin working.
The Airport can work with or without internet.. but it needs to be in router mode to pass IP addresses.. and it will give errors which you must ignore.
It is possible also to setup in static IP mode.. but you will still need to ignore errors.
However to really help I need the whole setup.. I need to know if you are using the wireless in a secondary IP network from internet which is also running.. and if so what IP address ranges are being used.
In other words tell me the entire setup.. what is the main router.. ?? What are the clients? How are they going to connect to the express when there is no internet??

  • Internet Printing with Airport Express?

I am windows XP user with an Airport Express being used for its wireless printing/music capabilities. It is the wireless N model. Is there a way to print when outside my wireless network or does my computer have to be on that network? I am somewhat familiar with wireless networking/routers if this is the only method.

    Welcome to the discussions!
From the information in your post, it sounds like you have configured the AirPort Express to "join" your wireless network.
If that's the case, your computer will need to be on the same wireless network in order to issue print commands or stream iTunes to the AirPort Express.
Or, did I misunderstand your question?

  • Airport Express disconnects wired internet connection when attempting to extend Airport Extreme WiFi network

I just purchased and airport express to extend my wifi network.  My base station is an airport extreme, I have one wired connection and a wifi network.  When I go through the recommended steps to set up the express and "extend the network", the airport extreme will no longer connect to the internet via ethernet.  I have tried various settings and can't seem to resolve the problem.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I purchased the Apple airport express that connects
    multiple
wireless-networked PCs to a usb printer.
is there a driver that can make this work?. I configured
    the printer
according to the manual, received a test page and so on, but now it
takes ages to start printing and printing never gets to 100%
completion but to 99%. I am not able to cancel printing jobs and this
    is a whole mess.

  • Printing with Airport Express as Base Station

That is, I think our Airport Express is our base station. It's the only thing we have, and we can connect to the internet just fine, but it doesn't show up in the Airport Utility.
The main problem is printing through the Airport Express. Our printer prints fine when plugged into the USB on the ibook but it won't print from the USB on the Airport Express.
We can see the printer located on our wireless network but when we try to print the print center says that printing has stopped with an error of level one, or category one or something. I do see the appropriate printer driver on the list when I add the printer (I think it's an Epson C40ux, but I'm doing this from memory) and that's set correctly. I've got the unofficial list of printers that work and don't work and I see that some printers may need other drivers to work from the wireless network. There must be other things to check, but I'm a little new at this. It seems like this would be a common problem but I'm not seeing many posts like this so if anyone has a moment and any ideas I'd be grateful. Thanks. Mark
Ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   Airport Express

Thanks... I will try that first. I've also been advised to delete the network and add a new one with the printer connected... but your idea is simpler.

  • Slow wireless printing with Airport Express

I have a Canon MP530 printer hooked up to an Airport Express for wireless printing. My wireless internet network is through an Airport Extreme. The only thing hooked into the Express is the printer, and it works but is extremely slow. It can take an hour to print one 15 page document. Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm not sure I understand your question, or at least I don't know how to tell connection speed with the utility. The express is set up as an extension to my current wireless network, although I'm only using it for printing.
I had a similar experience with a hard drive wirelessly connected to the Extreme - data transfer was ridiculously slow. Is this something to be expected with wireless connectivity?

  • Wireless Printing with AirPort Express

Hi all, I've had an AirPort Express on my network for a while now and have been printing to a Canon LBP2900i laser printer without any problems.
It seems that since the last firmware upgrade for the AirPort Express was released and installed I receive the error message 'this port type is not supported by your printer' when trying to print.
It worked fine before so I can't figure out why it should be different now.
    Any ideas?

I am using Airport Express with an Epson Photo R380 printer. When I use the Gutenprint 5.1.3 driver I get faded black type but I do have a connection to the printer and it prints.
When I use the Epson driver (and not Gutenprint as the Epson support page suggests not using it to solve the faded print problem) the printer shows up on the Airport Express but nothing happens when I send anything to it to print.
I've tried reloading the Epson driver etc - nothing seems to work.
Any suggestions on either how to get regular not faded printing using the Gutenprint driver or any connection at all using the Epson driver?

  • Can I use a airport express to get internet connection to a Mac Mini that doesn't have wireless by adding it to my existing wireless network?

I bought a first gen Mac Mini for our daughter and it doesn't have internal airport adapter and was wondering if I got a airport express can I plug it in my daughters room and use it as a local router and just use the eithernet connect from it.  Or would a airport extreme work better for this job.  I have a wireless cable modem that we connect to.  I also have a second question I have a iMac G4 that picks up the wireless signal but will not connect to it does it have to be a Apple airport for it to work or should it be able to connect to any broadcasted signal.  Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure I quite understand. Do you wish to use the AEX to provide a wireless connection for a device that has an Ethernet port but no wireless capability of its own? You wish to use it in place of a wireless card that isn't internally installed? If so, the answer is, "Yes." It will work as a wireless access point. But you must have an extant wireless network because the AEX won't have an Internet connection when used in this way.
If you have an existing wireless network with a wireless router connected to your cable/DSL model or your modem is a wireless router as well, then the AEX may connect to it in bridge mode. Note that AEXs don't always play nice with non-Apple routers. Some work; others don't.

  • Print with Airport Express

I've just buyed a new printer (HP Laserjet Pro 300 Color m351a) and installed new HP drivers in my Macbook Pro (with OSX 10.9 Mavericks) and when I connect the USB cable to the Airport Express (first model) to use it wireless I'm not able to see her in printer menu.
When I connect the printer directly to the Mac works fine
    Can anybody help me?

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • HP PSC 1410 not printing with Airport Express

I have just purchased this printer. I'm running Tiger on a Powerbook G4.
When I set up the printer with a direct USB connection to my computer, the printer is added with the driver "HP All-in-One 3.0.1" automatically chosen. It works just fine.
When I plug in the printer to my Airport Express, the same All-in-One driver is automatically offered. I chose it, and the printer is added to my list of printers no problem. However, it just won't print. It tries to start the print job, and then the printer icon bounces in the dock with a big red exclamation mark. I try to click on start print job, and the same thing happens - it tries to start the job, but then just stops and the exclamation mark appears.
Does anyone know what might be wrong?
    Thanks
    Theresa

The PSC 1410 is not on the list of known compatible printers found at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html - which may very well explain the problem.
