Problem about character set
I read data from excel using oracle com automation feature in plsql program and insert them into tables, but all chinese in the excel file was "?",how should I do?
thanks.
american_america.us7ascii You cannot store chinese character in this character set. US7ASCII stores data in 7Bits, which doesn't support non-ascii characters.
You'll have to change the character set of your database to Unicode based character set to store the chinese characters.

Problem with Character Set after upgrade
Hello,
I have a probelm and was wondering if anyone has seen this before.
I have been running Java 1.4.2_13 for a while now on some Windows servers. About a month ago we upgraded to Java 1.6.0_12.
We are reading input files that are in the character set Big5 HKSCS. After the upgrade our application started to report certain characters as invalid. Some of the characters are 0xD843, 0xD844.
These should be valid characters and were in the previous version of Java (1.4.2_13).
Has anyone seen this?
Thanks in advance,
JerryThe [Supported Encodings|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/intl/encoding.doc.html] page for the Java 6 release describes that charset as
Big5 with Hong Kong extensions, Traditional Chinese (incorporating 2001 revision)You would know more than I do about that 2001 revision (or at least, not less than I do, since I know nothing about it). Perhaps that's the source of your problem?
Edit: especially since the [Supported Encodings|http://www.j2ee.me/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/intl/encoding.doc.html] page for Java 1.4 doesn't mention the 2001 revision. -
Problem with character set - Reports 11.1.1.4
Hi!
I have a problem with Oracle Reports 11g regarding character set configuration. The default character set WE8ISO8859P1 works, so PDF reports have a regular display except for Eastern European (EE) letters which are replaced by "¿" sign.
So, when I set any other character set in reports.sh, which would be a normal step to get EE letters, I'm always getting Greek Alphabet in PDF reports. Why Greek Alphabet?
The character sets I tried to use are: EE8ISO8859P2, UTF8 and AL32UTF8.
I changed uifont.ali and included PDF Subset with all four Arial font variants and, of course, I placed all fonts in fonts folder which is pointed by REPORTS_FONT_DIRECTORY.
In Reports Builder everything works fine, but when I have to deploy the report to the Reports Services, the problem occurs.
Also, when I've tried to execute PDF report using In-Process Reports Server (rep_wls_reports_hostnameasinst1) instead of AS Instance Reports Server (RptSvr_hostnameasinst1, which is a regular server), I'm getting Greek Alphabet in PDF reports even if the default character set is WE8ISO8859P1 in reports.sh. What is wrong with it? Where is Greek Alphabet configured?
The production environment is 64-bit Oracle Linux 5.6 with Weblogic 10.3.4 and Forms&Reports 11.1.1.4. Forms works fine with character set EE8ISO8859P2 defined in default.env file.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
DejanThank you, Denis!
Doc 300416.1 was very useful but Note 356221.1 - A Practical Methodology on Porting Reports from Windows to Unix with Different Font is actually crucial for configuring Reports on Linux.
Also, there is a bug in 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.1.4, which can be fixed using the patch ( Note 1138405.1 - PDF Reports With Font Subsetting Raises Error "Bad /Bbox" on 64-Bit Linux ).

Problem with character set (ubuntu linux)
hello everyone.
I 'have already installed oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386 in ubuntu.
The problem is that greek characters from the db appear like ??????.
How can i set the right nls_lang character set to solve the problem in ubuntu linux?
Thank you in advance!Character code point translation is in the realm of the client, try setting NLS_LANG environment variable.
If your client programs handle UTF8, as do many linux utilities, that is the best choice, set your <language>_<locale>.<characterset>, i.e.
export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8
Or french_france, or german_germany ... depends on the locale you want to use. Try a `putty` session to the host, the terminal can be set for many different character sets, i.e. ISO8859-<n> a.k.a. the WE8<n> or Western European, UTF, etc. under Window/Translation.
Try a few select ... from dual; statements in sqlplus with a literal, and different unicode values- the unistr() and dump() functions can come in quite handy.
select unistr('\ac20 euro' ) from dual;
... € euro ...
select dump( unistr('\ac20 euro' ) ) from dual;
... <ascii codes for the character values> ...
select dump( unistr('\ac20 euro' ),16 ) from dual; -- this one for hex dump -
Problem with character set UTF-16 LE

There were difficulties with character set change, using function convert ()

Hi,
I am facing some problems with Oracle character sets.
I have set the database character set as UTF8.
I have set the environment variable NLS_CHAR to Portuguese_Portugal.UTF8.
I insert a Portuguese text for varchar and clob columns in a table.
However when I select the text from that table, I get some junk values for the clob.
Any help is appriciated. Thanx in advance.
Yash
nullHi Yash,
Can u tell me how to insert values in a nchar/nvarchar column in

Problem about fill set up table
Hi all,
I got a problem when I run the fill set up table for sales billing data source. what I did is:
first delete the setup table then oli9bw->type in a sales document no.(as I only want this order data), then give a run name, last execute, but I got the message as follow:
Data source 2LIS_13_VDITM contains data still to be transferred
Could you pls explain what this means, and what should I do to solve the problem
ThanksSet up table definition
Setup table is store the historical data, where as the delta records are updated in delta queue not to set up table.
So once historical data is loaded you can delete the contents of the set up table.
name is extract sturcture of your data source + setup
also data is taken from setup table when an init / full/ full repair load is done.
so in order to take ur records from the table delete the setup table(LBWG) and initialize it with ur records.
You can find the contents SE16

Set Up tables..
lo: delete set up tables: DOUBT
LBWQ is the extraction queue and RSA7 is delta queue. Data is sent to delta queue from extraction queue through collective job scheduled in transaction LBWE.
when we want to extract the data using LO Cockpit, the data will be come to the extraction queue first and from there it will processed to the delta queue. SO lbwq works as a outbound queue.
If the update mode is Unserialised V3 then as soon as the document is posted it comes update table which you can see in Tr. Code SM13. After the jonb is scheduled the records come to RSA7 i.e delta queue from which BW pulls the data
If you use u201CQueued Deltau201Dupdate method then the data moves to Extraction queue(LBWQ). Then run Collective update to move the data from LBWQ into Delta Queue (RSA7). Then schedule the data using the infopackage by selecting Delta Load in the update tab.
So in If you are going to do Setup table filling, delete the data from LBWQ.
The usage of Extraction queue(LBWQ) comes in to picture in delta loading. But actually system starts collecting the data (whenever there is document creation in R/3) after activating the EXtraction structure.
Steps to Be Performed
We know that there are 4 types of delta extraction that are available in LO. If you use u201CQueued Deltau201Dupdate method then the data moves to Extraction queue(LBWQ). Then run Collective update to move the data from LBWQ into Delta Queue (RSA7). Then schedule the data using the infopackage by selecting Delta Load in the update tab.

Problem with character set with servlets and Oracle 9i AS
I am deploying a servlet with Jserv on a Sun machine.
My servlet is working but some special characters in text fields like "i", "h", "`" (French language) are replaced by "?" when refreshing the HTML pages.
Is that a Jserv or Oracle 9i AS settings problem or machine settings problem ?
Thanks for you help

Foreign character sets in a database
I am developing a site where people in many countries (mainly
Scandinavian) can log on and update their pages. The information,
(including passwords and usernames) is stored in an access
database. I am using Access because I have no knowledge of PHP /
SQL, and the site is unlikely to exceed the limitations of Access
for a few years.
Does Access change the format of text, or do I have to set up
some special encoding? I find that if I type in the username and
password using an english keyboard, when the original was set up
using a foreign keyboard I cannot log in. The reverse also applies.
I am using CS3 in default mode - using utf8. Should I be using
Westren European encoding, or is Access the fly in the ointment?
Or is it likely to be another problem.

Character sets in RTF messages not working with RTFEditorKit
I'm using RTFEditorKit.read() to get the text from an RTF document. The text is written in Russian and starts with the following
{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\froman\fprq2\fcharset204{\*\fname
Times New Roman;}Times New Roman CYR;}{\f1\fswiss\fprq2\fcharset0 Arial;}}
{\colortbl ;\red0\green0\blue128;\red0\green0\blue0;}
\viewkind4\uc1\pard\tx360\cf1\f0\fs20\'c1\'ee\'eb\'fc\'f8\'e8\'ed\'f1\'f2\'e2\'eeThe reader sets the translation table based on the \ansi\ at the start of the document, which simply maps all bytes to themselves. The initial text, which should be 'Большинство', is then converted as latin-1. The 'fcharset204', which is CP1251, is completely ignored, and there's a lovely line in the RTFReader class
/* TODO: per-font font encodings ( \fcharset control word ) ? */Does anyone know how to extract non latin1 text from RTF or what other tools can be used to extract text from RTF.

Switching Character Sets in JDeveloper
Hi, we have developed a number of Portlets on JDev 10.1.2 but used the default encoding of cp1252. When looking back on my course notes I saw that the course instructor had recommended that we set the default project encoding to UTF-8. What are the implications of using the default encoding? We have coded our portlets to use resource bundles in order that we can make them multi-lingual at some point in the future. Is UTF-8 essential for this and if so, should we take the hit now to re-encode ( on trying it, I got errors about malformed input values, mostly hyphens and apostorphes) or will it be a painless process if we do it later on?

A problem about Ms Sql 7 - Oracle 8.1.5 ?
hi
I used OMWB to migrate MS sql 7 to Oracle 8.1.5, both of our env are on chinese character set,it worked well. Thank OMWB work team. The whole process of migration did't meet any problem. But I met a problem about character set,I don't see right content on CLOB column, all data in CLOB columns are like the following something :
0F5C3A53A44E1A904575BE8FBF4F776302303052FD56388D01303100380006529F943052B065164E
I maped text datatype of SQL to CLOB datatype,I can see the right data directly in SQL by select command, but I can't see the right data in SQL*PLUS.
How can I do? Migration workbanch don't support the multi-bit char set such as chinese?
nullI already knew the solution of the problem, but I met another problem.
I checked my sql 7 database again, I found large columns are ntext datatype. I changed the ntext to text and migrated data again. In SQL*PLUS ,I found the data of clob columns change to '????.?-?'. I know this is caused by NLS_LANG, my NLS_LANG=simplified chinese_china.zhs16gbk. How do i set my nls_lang to get the right data?
