Problem calling a LabVIEW VI from TestStand

I'm am currently migrating my companies test scripts from TestStand 3.0 to TestStand 4.1.1 and VI's from LabVIEW 7.0 to LabVIEW 8.6.  I have re-saved all of the sequence files to the new version as well as performed the 'Mass Compile' operation on all of our custom VI's.  During the execution of one of the sequence files a call is made to a VI (through a LabVIEW library).  If I run this sequence file on a machine with the development software and have the Adapter for LabVIEW set to use the development system the VI executes as expected.  If I have the adapter set to use the Run-time engine (in this case 8.6, the same as the development version) I get an error:
"LabVIEW:  The VI is not executable. Most likely the VI is broken or one of its subVIs cannot be located.  Open the VI in LabVIEW using File>>Open and verify that it is runnable."
I noticed that in the library file there are sub VI's that are called from  "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.0\vi.lib"   This directory only exists on machines that have the development system installed.  Perhaps this is why the VI does not execute using the runtime engine

Ray is right. Development environments are backwards compatible (you can run VIs compiled in LabVIEW 7.1 or 8.5 in LabVIEW 8.6). That's why you can run your sequence just fine on the development system, but on the target machines you are using the LabVIEW Run-Time engine, which is not backwards compatible. With the Run-Time engine, ALL VIs need to be in the same version as the Run-Time engine (including VIs in vi.lib, tools.lib, instr.lib, etc.).
The first thing I would check is make sure everything has been mass compiled to 8.6, including vi.lib. If you are still getting the error you should be able to tell at what point the error occurs so you can look at that specific VI. Open it and confirm there isn't a broken run arrow and check to see what subVIs that VI is using and confirm they all have been compiled in version 8.6 too.
This should get you going, but if not just let us know.

  • How can I call a LabVIEW executable from within another LabVIEW executable?

    I have a customer requirement for two LabVIEW executables. Based on their current setup, they need to run executable "A" or "B", both of which are under independent revision control. I have created a third "selection" executable that allows the operator to choose between one of the two, but I am receiving errors when I attempt to call a LabVIEW executable from within a LabVIEW executable using either the "System exec" VI or the "Run Application" VI. If I call a non-LabVIEW executable (such as Windows Explorer) everything works fine.

    As with the other poster, I suspect a path problem. You might try the
    path out in a shell window, and if it works, copy the complete absolute
    path to LV to see if that works. LV is basically passing the comma
    nd to
    the OS and doesn't even know what is in it, so you should be able to get
    it to work.
    The other poster commented on subpanels, which is a good suggestion, but
    without going to LV7, an EXE can have open more than one VI. You can
    use the VI Server and the Run method to fire up another top-level VI.
    The decision is whether you want both to be in unique processes.

  • I want to call the DMM- SFP from Teststand using IVI

    Hi I have a Teststand 3.0 system with a NI-PXI 4070, and I want to call the DMM-SFP from Teststand using the IVI driver architecture. Unfortunatley I cannot figure out how to link the DMM-SFP to the Logical name.

    ADL,
    If you are using the TestStand IVI step types, after you have added the logical name in MAX, you can insert an IVI DMM step type. Then right-click on the step and choose "Edit IVI Dmm". You should be able to choose from the Logical Name Ring Control the logical name you created in MAX.
    If you haven't added the logical name into MAX, depending on what version of MAX you have, you can refer to Using Measurement & Automation Explorer 2.x to Configure Your IVI System or look in the IVI help that comes built into MAX 3.0.
    If you checked there already or have another question, please let us know!

  • Problems calling context-sensitive AIRHelp from Adobe Flex App

    Hi everyone...
    I´m having problems calling context-sesitive AIRHelp from Flex.
    I can launch the help from flex using the following code (flex), but allways starts on the default topic.
    private function invocarAirHelp(tema:String):void {
          var appID:String = "pc1";
          var pubID:String = "8C47FDE4638CAF7F210634E52A5F8318D893A57C.1";
          var mgr:ProductManager = new ProductManager("airappinstaller");
          mgr.launch("-launch " + appID + " " + pubID);
    the launch method can recive parameters after the publisherID, but i dont know the parameters that i should give to the method to start the AIRHelp on an specific topic.
    I tryed using the parameters as the call was on the command line, ex:
      mgr.launch("-launch " + appID + " " + pubID + " -csh mapnumber 12");
    but i can get any results... with those parameters the help application doesn´t even start
    Anyone have an idea to make this works?
    Thanks in advance, Sabin

    Hi Sabin,
    The only supported way to launch AIR applications from the browser is the air "browser API": http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=distributing_apps_3.html#1035834
    The browser API uses ProductManager internally and exposes higher-level browser API so that we change the implementation if necessary someday. The browser API will stay the same, even if the interactions through ProductManager (or something else) change.
    The browser API (air.swf) has other features that make it the preferred way to launch apps. For instance, it provides accurate information about which platforms support AIR, and can therefore manage install of new apps and of the runtime itself.
    Also, if the application is not installed then Browser API will return Error to the flex application, but that does not happen in case of ProductManager.
    That said, you can probably use "--" to separate arguments intended for airappinstaller from arguments that should be passed through to the app itself.
    mgr.launch("-launch " + appID + " " + pubID + " -- -csh mapnumber 12");

  • Problems in using Labview DLL with TestStand!

    Hi,
    I tried to put the VI's to create a TCP/IP Connection, read/write Data to it and close it inside a LabVIEW DLL and use these functions with TestStand.
    The problem is to get access to the ConnectionID generated as TCP Network Refnum in LabVIEW.
    I don't know how to specify the prototype entry for this Refnum in LabVIEW and how to read it with TestStand.
    Another try to pass an ActiveXReference of SequenceContext and use the SetValIDispatch method to set a local variable (Type: ActiveXReference) to the returned ConnectionID of the TCPOpen.VI wasn't successful too.
    It seems to me that the connectionID isn't a normal ActiveXReference.
    Regards,
    Sunny

    Hi Sunny -
    You should treat this parameter as a pointer to an int when calling the DLL from TestStand (or any language like C or C++). Note that you can't do anything with the value outside of LabVIEW since it only has meaning inside of LabVIEW. You can only pass it around for use in other VIs you call from TestStand.
    Hope this helps....

  • When I call VI on Linux from Teststand on Windows using TCP/IP I get "file not found error".any sugeestions?

    I am trying to execute a VI running on Linux from Teststand running on windows 2000 prof ,both running on two different machines.I used TCP/IP for the interface using the following steps on Labview VI:tools>options>VIserver>TCP/IP and gave the ip address of both the machines.When I gave the file path as c:\home\test.vi in Edit labview Vi call window(the Vi in linux is stored in /home/test.vi)and also in remote vi path:/home/test.vi,I get a file not found error.The teststand version is 3.0 and labview is 7.0.Any idea why this is happening and any solutions?

    priya guru,
    Here is a knowledge base that addresses your question: How do I call test VIs that reside on a non-Windows platform from TestStand?
    You also need to set TCP/IP Access found in Tools->Options->'VI Server: TCP/IP Access'. Make sure that you list the IP address in the Access List to allow TCP/IP access to that machine. Finally you need to specify which VIs are accessible to remote applications. Open up Tools->Options->'VI Server: Exported VIs' and provide paths to the VIs you wish to be remotely accessible.
    I have attached an example VI that demonstrates VI Server in action. Please post back if you are still having problems. Good luck!

  • Problem calling XML Report Publisher from Oracle Reports

    Hi,
    I'm facing a problem in calling XML Report Publisher from Oracle Reports.
    Basically, I'm trying to customise Dunning Letter program. The program which is submitted calls another program. I have customised the second program and added a call to a stored procedure which in turn calls XML Report Publisher.I have created a template and attached it to the second program as well.
    The procedure code is as follows.
    v_request_id := FND_REQUEST.SUBMIT_REQUEST(application => 'AR'
    ,program => 'ARDLP_NON_SRS'
    ,description => 'Dunning Letter Print from Dunning Letter Generate'
    ,sub_request => FALSE
    l_status := fnd_concurrent.WAIT_FOR_REQUEST
    ( REQUEST_ID => v_request_id,
    INTERVAL => 15,
    MAX_WAIT => 180,
    PHASE => l_phase,
    STATUS => l_status_code,
    DEV_PHASE => l_dev_phase,
    DEV_STATUS => l_dev_status,
    MESSAGE => l_message );
    v_xml_req_id := FND_REQUEST.submit_request(application => 'XDO',
    program => 'XDOREPPB',
              argument1 => v_request_id,
    argument2 => 'FLS DE AR Dunning Letter Print - German',
    argument3 => 603, -- changed 665 -- was 551,
    argument4     => NULL,
    argument5 => 'N',
    argument6     => 'RTF',
              argument7     => 'PDF');
    Now, there are two problems I'm facing...
    1. when the second program('Dunning Letter Print from Dunning Letter Generate') gets called it executes this procedure ... logically the 'Dunning Letter Print from Dunning Letter Generate' should get called twice ... second time from the procedure. Its getting called multiple times .. as many as 15 - 20 times.
    2. The Xml Report Publisher program ultimately gets called but its erroring out with the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: No corresponding LOB data found :SELECT L.FILE_DATA FILE_DATA, DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(L.FILE_DATA) FILE_LENGTH, L.LANGUAGE LANGUAGE, L.TERRITORY TERRITORY, B.DEFAULT_LANGUAGE DEFAULT_LANGUAGE, B.DEFAULT_TERRITORY DEFAULT_TERRITORY,B.TEMPLATE_TYPE_CODE TEMPLATE_TYPE_CODE, B.USE_ALIAS_TABLE USE_ALIAS_TABLE, B.START_DATE START_DATE, B.END_DATE END_DATE, B.TEMPLATE_STATUS TEMPLATE_STATUS, B.USE_ALIAS_TABLE USE_ALIAS_TABLE, B.DS_APP_SHORT_NAME DS_APP_SHORT_NAME, B.DATA_SOURCE_CODE DATA_SOURCE_CODE, L.LOB_TYPE LOB_TYPE FROM XDO_LOBS L, XDO_TEMPLATES_B B WHERE (L.LOB_TYPE = 'TEMPLATE' OR L.LOB_TYPE = 'MLS_TEMPLATE') AND L.APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME= :1 AND L.LOB_CODE = :2 AND L.APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME = B.APPLICATION_SHORT_NAME AND L.LOB_CODE = B.TEMPLATE_CODE AND ( (L.LANGUAGE = :3 AND L.TERRITORY = :4 ) OR (L.LANGUAGE = :5 AND L.TERRITORY = :6) OR (L.LANGUAGE= B.DEFAULT_LANGUAGE AND L.TERRITORY= B.DEFAULT_TERRITORY ) )
    I have checked from database that the XDO_LOBS/ XDO_TEMPLATES_B table has corresponding registration data.
    I don't know what's creating the problem.
    If anyone has customised the Dunning Letter program before or having any idea about this problem, please help me out ..
    Thanks

    satrajit,
    Now I am getting the same error you got, Can you please tell me the solution you found?.

  • How to call a labview dll from excel-VBA?

    How to call a simple Labview DLL from Excel VBA?
    I have seen examples of DLL calls from VB but does it work the same way for VBA? I have 2000 excel and Labview 8.5. I created the DLL and tried to call it from VBA using the same type of code as in NI's website example(ofcourse its a bit diff with 8.5)
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/...
    BUT it errors out when called from excel
    ERROR: The object invoked has disconnected from its client

    You would need to provide more details about the LabVIEW DLL, such as the prototypes of the functions (VIs) that you're trying to call, and your actual VBA code. Specifically, what object you're trying to create. You should also make sure the Run-Time Enginer is installed, as well as any required libraries such as the VISA Run-Time if you're using VISA. Have you made sure to enable the ActiveX server for the DLL?

    PD: sorry for my bad english i'm from Venezuela

    Next time please paste your code between &#91;code&#93; tags with the code button just above the edit message area.
    To answer your question, you wrote the wrong method signature. It should be:jmethodID mmid = env->GetMethodID(cls, "recibeBuffer", "()V");Regards

  • Problems calling a html form from a different page

    Hi,
    I'm working on a logon for a website. I have a html page and a jsp page that contains the login function. I want to call the login form after the user presses submit. But I'm having problems calling the form from the html page.
    Any help appreciated.
    Here is my html page:
    <form method="POST" action="login.jsp">
    <table>
    <tr>
    <td>
    <div align="center">
    <b>UserName:</b>
    <input name="user_name" type="text" class="input" id="username" maxlength="18">
    <b>Password:</b></font>
    <input type="password" name="password" class="input" maxlength="18">
    </input>
    <input type="button" border="0" value="Login" width="30" height="20">
    </input>
    My jsp page:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
    <html>
    <body bgcolor = "#E5E8EF">
    <script language="javascript">
    function login(form) {
         alert("hello");
    if (form.username.value=="joe") {
    if (form.password.value=="bloggs") {
    location="success.html"
    } else {
    alert("Invalid Password")
    } else {  alert("Invalid UserID")
    //-->
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>

    So your intention is that the JS function would be invoked somehow?
    Are you aware that Javascript is a completely different language from Java/JSP/JSTL?

  • Calling labview executable from teststand

    I have a labview VI that I build into an exe, and I'd like to call it from my teststand sequence in the setup - other test steps need to use its capabilities in the remainder of the sequence (main).  If it were just a VI, then no problem, the inputs would be visible to me, and I could pass them in.  Since it's an executable, though, my step is of type "Call Executable", but I don't see anywhere that it allows me to pass in the inputs it needs.  Thoughts?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    What version of TestStand are you using?  With TestStand 4.0 for the 'Call Executable' step there is a line called
    Argument Expression:
    Enter your parameters to pass into your LabVIEW executable.  You will have to know which ones to pass in and in what order. I believe you can seperate the arguments by spaces.  In my attachment, I pass in one parameter to a LabVIEW executable.
    Remember, though you have to set the Build properties in LabVIEW to allow it to Pass command parameters to the application.
    Thanks,

  • Problem calling two perl modules from java in seperate threads(JVM CRASHES)

    Dear Friends,
    I have one severe problem regarding calling perl modules from java
    I had to call two perl modules simultaneously (i.e.) from two threads,,, but jvm crashes when one of the perl calls is exiting earlier
    I am unable to spot out why ....
    For calling perl from java ...., We are first calling C code from java using JNI and then Perl code from C
    All works fine if we call only one perl call at a time.... If we call them in a synchronized manner the JVM is not crashing .... But we don't want blocking..

  • Problem calling a web Service from BI Publisher (10.1.3.2 )

    We have published a PL/SQL Web Service (from Jdeveloper 10.1.3 ) into a SOA Suite server.
    As requirements from BI Publisher , we chose Document/Literal, SOAP 1.1.
    The Program Unit accept an input parameter (we tried NUMBER & STRING)
    The result is an XML formatted (PL/SQL functions returns a CLOB then converted as a String).
    When testing the Service call from the SOA Suite console, no problems.
    We declined a page with APEX to test this Web Service too : Test is OK
    We added this web service as a data source in BI Publisher :
    After typing WSDL URL, Method, Parameter
    After testing , we do not get the XML result but an error message, coming from Apache AXIS (seems to be the DynamicInvoker) :
    not know how to convert '50740' into org.apache.axis.client.Call@cd7fdb
    Our demo is very near to this example : http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2006/11/01#a123
    and the one from the BI Publisher documentation

    I can't say I know the answer but I wanted to share a thought on debugging the issue. Like you I am seeing an axis error for a parameter on a web service I know works. I can call it using BPEL, SoapUI, etc... I suspect that perhaps BI pub is having trouble interpreting the WSDL for the web service. Specifically, I suspect that since I have imported schemas in the WSDL and nested imports in the supporting XSD files, the process is getting confused. The request message is fairly simple with three optional parameters but the WSDL does use an import via the WSDL. I wanted to share this since this problem often comes up with various tooling and I am lacking time to work out a test case to prove this theory out any time soon. I will try to post once I find some time to test this theory but it may be a while. Reading the results of someone else's test would be just as good!

  • Problem calling PL/SQL procedures from Function Activity Issue

    Hi,
    I am working with Oracle Workflow and I have found some problems adding a function activity in the process diagram. This function only updates some registers on the data base, or at least it should do that.
    I have been looking through the items in this forum and I have found similar things but not the right one. Of course I am a learner in all this and maybe the answer in there.
    I will try to show you my problem:
    When the procedure is supposed to be called, it doesnt´t do that and instead I found the following error:
    Wf_Engine_Util.Function_Call(usuario.WF_FIN_TG.FINTG1, FLUJO1, 092S0087, 588782, RUN) ORA-01403: no data found
    I have tested all the queries from TOAD and SAL Server, and all of them return some results.
    I have tried to take out all the queries from the procedure as the following to try to avoid or change the error but it continues as "ORA-01403: no data found":
    PROCEDURE FINTG1(
    p_itemtype IN VARCHAR2,
    p_itemkey IN VARCHAR2,
    p_actid IN NUMBER,
    p_funcmode IN VARCHAR2,
    p_resultado IN OUT VARCHAR2
    ) IS
    flujo VARCHAR2(;
    p_resultado :=1;
    END FINTG1;
    It seems as the workflow engine try to search something before executing my procedure.
    Has anybody any idea about how to solve this problem? Thanks a lot.

    WF_ENGINE_UTIL.Function_Call is the lowest level procedure executed by the engine before it executes the procedure associated with the function activity. I am not sure if this procedure would throw ORA 1403 since this does not have a query or a collection.
    Please note that ORA 1403 could occur from a SQL query or a collection.
    Looking at your code, p_resultado :=1;
    The function activity should return a resultout that the workflow engine understands. The valid results from the function activities as per the workflow guide are,
    wf_engine.eng_completed - 'COMPLETE'; -- Normal completion
    wf_engine.eng_active - 'ACTIVE'; -- Activity running
    wf_engine.eng_waiting - 'WAITING'; -- Activity waiting to run
    wf_engine.eng_notified - 'NOTIFIED'; -- Notification open
    wf_engine.eng_suspended - 'SUSPEND'; -- Activity suspended
    wf_engine.eng_deferred - 'DEFERRED'; -- Activity deferred
    wf_engine.eng_error - 'ERROR'; -- Completed with error
    You would normally use COMPLETE or ERRORED within your activity. Please change your code to use a valid resultout and try again.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks
