Problem creating a form on a table from another custom schema

Hi,
I have a table in a custom schema that i have granted SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT and DELETE to our apex schema. I have created a synonym for this table under the apex schema but I can't build a form for it. If i try adding the form when creating the application, it gives me an error about not having a primary key on the table, which i do. If i create the application with a blank page and then try to add the form, it gives me an error that the table must contain at least one column, which it contains 12. If i view the table in the SQL Workshop, it gives an accurate count of rows in the table but doesn't provide any information about the table and doesn't display the data.
If I login to TOAD under our apex schema and view the synonym object, i can see all of the information about the table - the columns, the primary key, etc. But I can't see it inside the Application Express app.
Can anyone tell me why this is and what i can do to build a form on this shared table?
Thanks,
Troy

Troy,
I suggest you get rid of the synonym and then don't use the Create Application wizard for this purpose. Instead, create the application, then use a create page or create form wizard. It should first ask you for the name of the schema that contains the table. If you get that far, you should be on your way.

  • Create a new table from another table that exists ussing a stored procedure

    Hi,
I want to know if is posibble to create a new table from another table that exists ussing a stored procedure. This new table is created from other table that exists in the DB.
(in the next code the table tbl1 exist into the schema of the DB, but temp_tbl1 does not exist, it must be created by the procedure)
create or replace procedute temp is
    temp_tbl1 tbl1%TYPE; //the temp_tbl1 will have the same type of tbl1
    begin
    create table temp_tbl1 as (select * from tbl1);

The simplest form of checking this issue is by executing
SET ROLE NONE;and then to run your statement/code block in question interactively. Using this approach you get in your session the effective rights of a "Definer's Rights" stored program, i.e. only privileges that you got granted directly to your user.
You can revert to the default setting by issuing
SET ROLE ALL;For more information regarding this topic, read e.g. the documentation:

  • How to create a form based on table@databaselink

I have created a database link under OracleXe to access an Oracle 9i and it works very well. I can manually access the tables that I like to see. Want to experiment to create a form under HTMLDB based on a table from another database that I have created DataLink to. When I go choose Create Application in HMTLDB and then select Form from page type under table or view I tried to do this tablename@databaselink but it seems it can not find the table this way. Any idea how to do this?
    Thanks

    Mike,
As I am trying to test and learn more about htmldb I was trying to get some data from oracle 9i to oracleXe, create some forms, reports and etc. At first I tried to use views and forgot to add the primary key, got the error so I posted the message on the board.
Then I did try out the “long way” creating tables with package and procedure and some other fun stuff to create an application which by the way it worked very well. Then I created some users and changed some password. When I tried again to run the application I start getting “invalid login credentials”. After many attempts finally I went home, as I was driving home I thought about something and at home I tried it.
I did some testing and noticed if I create a user under admin say userA+passwordA then login with userA+passwordA, create a table and then create an app base on that table and then run the app, with userA+passwordA I can login and app works perfectly. Then I logged out and as admin logged in, changed the userA password to passwordB. I logged out and logged in with userA+passwordB and then when I tried to run the app I get the “invalid login credentials”, when I change the passwordB to passwordA the app will works again. This is suppose to be this way!
    Again thanks to all

I'm using Oracle version 8i and I want to create a table from another table, such as:
CREATE TABLE a_backup as SELECT * FROM a => It's OK, table a_backup is created.
But there is only a table that I can't created like that, such as:

When I run over command, SQL Plus is not responding... and clients are can't access to DB or Executing forever

  • Create table from another table including constraints

    Hi,
Is there a way to create a table from another table including constraints.
    CREATE TABLE COPY_EMP
    as
    SELECT *
    FROM EMP
    WHERE 1 =2 ;
This creates the table, but the constraints are not copied over.
I was reading about DBMS_REDEFINITION - can that be used for this scenario ?
    Thanks!
    Anand

    >
I tried that, but the constraint names are posing a problem. And unfortunately our constraints are not named in a standard, so am finding it difficult to replace them.
Was just wondering if there were any simpler approach to this.
    >
    No - there isn't.
You will have to use new names for the constraints. That usually means extracting the DDL and manually changing the constraint names.

  • CREATING A FORM UTILIZING MULTIPLE TABLES

I'd like to know if it's feasable to create a form using multiple tables and if so, how?
    Thanx

    sgtmaj,
It's feasible. You'll have to create the form manually. This part of the documentation describes how that's done.

  • How to create table from another in pl/sql

Hi I need to create a table from another in pl/sql
    How can I do this

The proper way to do this, is not to do it in PL/SQL. But do it in SQL, something like:
    create table tbl
    as
    select *
from other_tbl;Doing it in PL/SQL is really slow compared to SQL.
Yes, if you really want to create a table using PL/SQL then you will need to use DBMS_SQL or EXECUTE IMMEDIATE (Native Dynamic SQL) to do this.

  • How to update one table from another

I am creating scripts in Oracle 10g. I have a table that has data corruption on three date fields.
I created a table with the following sql of all the affected rows:
    CREATE TABLE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE AS
    select request_id,received_date,planned_start_date, actual_start_date

    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE
    SET received_date = TO_CHAR(received_date,'YY-MON') ||'-'||(TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)
    where received_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE
    SET planned_start_date = TO_CHAR(planned_start_date,'YY-MON') ||'-'||(TO_CHAR(planned_start_date,'RRRR') + 2000)

    where actual_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
I now want to update the original base table with the corrected data so I wrote the following SQL UPDATE command:
    UPDATE lsu_inter2_requests_t aaa
    SET aaa.received_date = bbb.received_date
    FROM LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE bbb WHERE aaa.request_id = bbb.request_id
When I run this sql Oracle returns the error “ORA-00933 SQL command not properly ended.” How do I update multiple rows in one table from another table that share the same primary key?

When you want to produce a DATE datatype when starting with a string,
you must use TO_DATE() on the SET line!
(TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)since when do you do add characters (from TO_CHAR) with a constant number (2000)?
You should NEVER EVER rely on implicit datatype conversion

if i don't have TEST table on server B whether COPY command will create this table on server B with the same structure ? If you specify CREATE as a clause the table will be created:
    SQL> help copy
    COPY
COPY copies data from a query to a table in a local or remote
database. COPY supports CHAR, DATE, LONG, NUMBER and VARCHAR2.
    COPY {FROM database | TO database | FROM database TO database}

how can i import tables from a different schema into the existing relational model... to add these tables in the existing relational/logical model? plss help
note; I already have the relational/logical model ready from one schema... and I need to add few more tables to this relational/logical model
can I import the same way as I did previously??
but even if I do the same how can I add it in the model?? as the logical model has already been engineered..
    please help ...
    thanks

    Hi,
Before you start, you should probably take a backup copy of your design (the .dmd file and associated folder), in case the update does not work out as you had hoped.
You need to use Import > Data Dictionary again, to start the Data Dictionary Import Wizard.
In step 1 use a suitable database connection that can access the relevant table definitions.
In step 2 select the schema (or schemas) to import.  The "Import to" field in the lower left part of the main panel allows you to select which existing Relational Model to import into (or to specify that a new Relational Model is to be created).
In step 3 select the tables to import.  (Note that if there are an Foreign Key constraints between the new tables and any tables you had previously imported, you should also include the previous tables, otherwise the Foreign Key constraints will not be imported.)
After the import itself has completed, the "Compare Models" dialog is displayed.  This shows the differences between the model being imported and the previous state of the model, and allows you to select which changes are to be applied.
Just selecting the Merge button should apply all the additions and changes in the new import.
Having updated your Relational Model, you can then update your Logical Model.  To do this you repeat the "Engineer to Logical Model".  This displays the "Engineer to Logical Model" dialog, which shows the changes which will be applied to the Logical Model, and allows you to select which changes are to be applied.
Just selecting the Engineer button should apply all the additions and changes.
I hope this helps you achieve what you want.

  • How do you join two tables from different Oracle schemas using a subquery

I am trying to join two tables from different Oracle schemas using a subquery. I can extract data from each of the tables without a problem. However, when I combine the select statements using a subquery I get the Oracle error *'ORA-00936: missing expression'*. Since each SELECT statement executes on its own without error I don't understand what is missing. The result set I am trying to get is to match up the LINE_ID from PDTABLE_12_1 in schema DD_12809 with the MAT_DESCRIPTION from table PDTABLE_201 in schema RA_12809.
    The query is as follows:
    sql = "SELECT [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1].LINE_ID FROM [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1] JOIN " _
    + "(SELECT [RA_12809].[PDTABLE_201].MAT_DESCRIPTION " _
    + "FROM [RA_12809].[PDTABLE_201]) AS FAB " _
    + "ON [DD_12809].[PDTABLE_12_1].PIPING_MATER_CLASS = FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS"
The format of the query is copied from a SQL programming manual.
I also tried executing the query using a straight JOIN on the two tables but got the same results. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
    Edited by: user11338343 on Oct 19, 2009 6:55 AM

I believe you are receiving the error because you are trying to JOIN on a column that doesn't exist. For example you are trying to join on FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS but that column does not exist in the subquery.
If you want to do a straight join without a subquery you could do the following
    SELECT  DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1.LINE_ID
    ,       FAB.MAT_DESCRIPTION
    FROM    DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1
    JOIN    RA_12809.PDTABLE_201    AS FAB ON DD_12809.PDTABLE_12_1.PIPING_MATER_CLASS = FAB.PIPING_MATER_CLASS  HTH!

A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
