Problem during booting the zone

There is the problem:
-bash-2.05b# zoneadm -z apache1 boot
zoneadm: /zone/apache1/root/dev: No such file or directory
zoneadm: zone apache1 failed to verify
after installing the zone apache1 contents of /zone/apache1/root:
-bash-2.05b# ls
lib opt platform sbin usr var
everything is made using the article: http://www.blastwave.org/docs/Solaris-10-b51/DMC-0002/dmc-0002.html
? Thx.

Two questions:
1) Which build are you running?
2) Did you ready the zone?
This article at BlastWave was written within two weeks of Zones debut (he beat me to the punch!).
Since then a new step as been interjected. You should setup your zones in the following manner:
Create the zone like always (eg: zonecfg -z my_zone "create ; set zonepath=/export/zones/my_zone ;
set autoboot=true ; add net ; set address=10.0.0.1 ; set physical=hme0 ; end ; verify ; commit ; exit").
Then install the zone like always (zoneadm -z my_zone install) and wait till it completes. Now you
need to ready the zone (zoneadm -z my_zone ready) and then boot it (zoneadm -z my_zone boot).
Login to the zone ala "zlogin -C my_zone" and away you go.
Readying is a step I don't recall needing to do on older builds, but in B58 onward you must.

  • During boot, the system says that the main system board maker cannot be identified

    Problem: During boot, the system says that the main system board manufacturer cannot be identified.  If I ignore and tell it to continue, it wants to CHDSK.  If I skip that, the computer finishes booting and seems to operate normally.
    How can I fix this?

    Hi Gordoo3,
    Can you expand on the hardware you are using (Chassis, Controller, Devices, etc.)?  Do you have a MXI connection to your PC?  Have you identified the chassis in MAX?  Here is a Knowledgebase article that describes this process.

    We encountered a problem during use the Configtool access JAVA engine.
    Our environment of system as below:
    HardWard: IBM i570
    OS: IBM as/400 V5E3
    DB: DB2/400
    Application system:SAP XI 3.0
    The problem we encountered as below:
    Our company used XI 3.0 SR1 for exchange data between SAP R/3 and no-sap system.For now,we wanna create a backup system(for
    offline recovery),so we backup the XI product system throught entiry system save in AS/400(we stopped the XI system before
    save process start).And following,we restored from the tape that we save from XI product system to the new backup system(they
    are whole different paratition),but the problem is coming.Describe as following item:
    1. The application seem to can be started but the java node always restart circularly(We have 4 java node now),I think
    because of different of hardware configure(between XI product and Backup system) and lack of hardware resource.(XI prduction
    have 5 CPUs and 22G Mem,Backup system have 2 CPUs and 16G MEM ).Therefore we wanna decrease the number of java nodes for
    start application in backup system(throught configtool).
    2. We wanna use configtool to decrease the java nodes for start backup system.But we encountered a problem during running the
    configtool ,the information of prompt dialog as following:

  • Read-Only Problem during Boot

    Hi,
    I tried to update my system today, like every week, with the standard command pacman -Syu. After installing all updates, my window manager (gnome3) crashed and i tried to restart my System. After the grub window appeared and I choosed my kernel the normal startup commands are shown until the Arch prompt appeared. The one where Arch Linux tried to start all relevant processes. After that there are only mistakes. All startup processes are busy or failing. The only message i get is, that the filesystem, i think thats the root partition (ext4), is read-only or another error: some files for startup cannot be created because they already exist.
    Getting to console is also impossible, because the system tries to start virtualbox additions, with an funny message, that it is busy and tries it again in 5 min (infinity loop). But shidt happens. I have read in another post that I can try another Linux System, mount my root partition and  do an
    fsck /dev/sda3 -p or -f
    . But it says that all is clean (sda3 is root and sda1 is /boot). The filesystem is ext4, so i tried also fsck.ext4, but it also say all is clean.
    After another boot i stoped at the position, where the fist error occur.
    Mounting Local Filesystems
    /etc/rc.sysinit: line 285: /etc/mtab: Read-only file System
    next one:
    Activating Swap
    /bin/rm: cannot remove '/etc/localtime': Read-only file system
    removing leftover Files
    /usr/bin/find: cannot delete 'var/run/cups.pid': Read-only file system
    After that message there are also al lot of analog errors.
    I have no other idea than an dirty filesystem. Is there another possibility to rescue my system without an fresh install. Im sorry but i cannot log any messages at that state of boot. So it is not easy to get better informations about special error codes.
    I have forget to give you some informations about my stats:
    - actual stable arch kernel 2.6.38
    - gnome 3

    With udev 168-1 I obtain this message during boot:
    :: checking filesystems
    fsck.ext4: no such file or directory while trying to open /dev/sda6 (my root device)
    Possibly non-existent device?
    ***************** FILESYSTEM CHECK FAILED ****************
    * Please repair manually and reboot. Note that the root *
    * file system is currently mounted read-only. To remount *
    * it read-write type: mount -n -o remount,rw / *
    * When you exit the maintenance shell the system will *
    * reboot automatically. *
    but fsck run manually says it's all clean.
    I have to remount rw / partition and manually mount all the other partition, then I can switch to runlevel 3.
    With udev 167-2 (and prior) I can boot without any problems.
    I'm not sure it's a problem from udev, but downgrading it works for me.

  • How to diagnose NTP server problem during boot-up?

    We're having a problem on our campus network where Macs aren't able to use the time.apple.com NTP server to correct the time during boot-up. Once the user logs in, open the Date & Time pref pane causes the time to be corrected.
    I've noticed this problem for quite a while but it's really been just a minor inconvenience. Then some users started using Boot Camp and it became a bigger inconvenience because their Mac time is wrong by 4 hours when they return to OS X from Windows XP. It has now become something that we need to address because we have set up a lab with iMacs all configured with Boot Camp and set up to authenticate off of our Active Directory server, which requires that the time be correct on the iMacs when the user tries to log in.
    We'd like to monitor the network traffic on Mac during boot-up to see if we can figure out why this is happening. My person theory is that something that the network admins have the network configured to do when it first sees a new computer is causing enough of a delay in the DHCP process that the Mac doesn't have a network connection when the NTP server call would normally be made. The college has a DSL line that is not part of our network and NTP server time correction works correctly on it.
    We're looking for the best way to capture the activity on the Mac and the network traffic at boot-up. Here are the things that we're looking into.
    1) Verbose mode - Interesting looking but it goes by pretty quickly and I don't have time to read all of that info. Is this recorded in a log automatically somewhere or is there a way to capture this info?
    2) Single user mode - I haven't been able to determine whether the NTP server call should have occurred by the time I get a prompt in Single User Mode. If so, is there a command I could use here that would give me a dump of activity and network traffic up to this point?
    3) I have Interarchy which will let me record network traffic but as far as I can tell there's isn't a way to use this feature during boot-up. Am I wrong about that?
    4) Someone suggested using Ethereal which appears to require Fink when installed. I can't tell if this will work during boot for if it's an app that I can only run after logging in (like Interarchy). Does anyone know how this works?
    Any suggestions would be welcomed.
    -McD-

    Turns out it was a network timing issue. The DHCP server wasn't providing the IP address quick enough (never figured out why, though).

  • Problem to boot the system

    First of all I apologize for my bad english, but I hope that you understand me.
    I update my system and when I rebooted there was an error because it didn't recognize my root partition like ext3 filesystem. I resolved the problem changing all partition, on my hard disks, from hdxy to sdxy in fstab and running 'mkinitcpio -g /boot/kernel26.img'; but now I have a problem during the boot sequences since it stops after 'setting locale' and doesn't go forward, maybe it doesn't find a correct init configuration.
    Do you have any idea?
    Thank you in advance.

    Does it stop after "setting locale [done]" or while "setting locale [busy]"? If the latter ist the case maybe have a look at your /etc/rc.conf and  try to use default "LOCALE="en_US.utf8".
    Once you got it working you can see what locales are available via "locale -a".

  • Problems with booting the 875P

    Hi guys!
    Probably somebody already got a solution for this problem and can share information ...
    My sys specs are P4 2,66 GHz FSB 533 and the 875P Neo Board, rest is standard. Today I tried to change the processor ... a new P4 2,8 HT instead of the old one. The problem is: After changing the processor, the PC won't boot and I get no video signal. The dot's on the back indicate :
    R R
    G R
    According to the manual this is the Keyboard Initialization, which I can't believe ... after switching back to the old processor, everything went fine and the PC booted perfectly. According to normal procedures I've updated the BIOS to 1.8 and looked through the settings again, but everything seemed to be fine. To even exclude that this maybe a processor malfunction I tried it on another mainboard ... there it worked fine, but only at half speed (probably because it's a basic 845 chipset).
    If somebody could help ...

    Attention to the Apple developer, the iMovie which installed to the iPad 4th gen. has a problem when it's opened at the theater page it frequently couldn't be closed down to the home screen. The app page is actually blinking and cannot tap onto anything..

    Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
    Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • Problem during boot-up process - Anormal starting runlevel 3

    Hi
    So, this afternoon, I've installed Arch on my desktop.
    I have configured Xorg, gnome, all my programs...
    Then I have rebooted my computer and it happened something unusual.
    So, after the line "Loading keymap "fr"
    It appears "entering runlevel 3"
    And slim (my login manager does not start [It's installed and present in the daemon line]) and I have to log me in TTY, and when I try to "startx" it's does not work.
    Habitually, slim and gnome started normaly.
    Need help please !

    Hmm
    I don't know why, and how it happened but the daemon line of my rc.conf was commented.
    That's why the network didn't started...
    Decommented the daemon line, It works now

    I am not sure what is causing these errors. The zone appears to be running properly, but I am concerned that something is not starting during the boot process. /var/adm/messages file does not show any errors. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Thanks. That helped alot. I found out that all the messages came from a start up script named nddconfig. Since the ngz cannot change anything about devices this was causing a lot of errors. I stopped the script from starting and now do not receive any errors.

  • Mounting a filesystem within the zone root before booting it...

    Hi all,
    I want to mount a filesystem within the zone root before booting it. The mount works (of course...), but when I want to boot the zone (zoneadm -z stat-prod-02 boot), I've got the following error:
    zoneadm: zone 'stat-prod-02': These file-systems are mounted on subdirectories of /zones/stat-prod-02/zone/root:
    zoneadm: zone 'stat-prod-02': /zones/stat-prod-02/zone/root/sas
    zoneadm: zone 'stat-prod-02': call to zoneadmd failed
    So, my question is: is it possible to mount a filesystem within the zone root before booting it ? If yes, what am I missing ?
    Regards,
    Jeff

    I certainly see what he's trying to achieve -- an easy transition for admins who are not experienced with zones.
    If I tell an admin that everything under /zoneroots/foobar/root is part of the server "foobar"'s root directory, that's a pretty easy concept. That admin can go onto the global zone, create a new logical volume and mount it as (for example) /zoneroots/foorbar/root/dba93 (updating the global zone's /etc/vfstab) using all their "regular" skills. Unfortunately this works for the moment, but now the zone is unbootable (unbeknownst to the poor admin...).
    If I tell the same admin they have to create the logical volume like normal, but then they have to go into this unfamiliar "zoneadm" command and start typing in these new commands, they suddenly are a lot less interested in doing the work (meaning it gets push to the "guy who knows zones"). Not only does this place a burden on the person who knows zones best, it slows their adoption because the admin team isn't supportive of them.
    I too don't see why the zone cares that something is mounted as a sub-dir of it's root -- it's not a directory that the zone configuration is going to try and mount (THAT would be a problem and a suitable reason to abort). Tracing into this I see that the "zone_create" system call is returning with "EBUSY" which just seems wrong...

  • Problem during the setting the query data source name in forms 6i

    We are now doing assignments in forms 6i actually there is a problem during setting the query data source name in run time.
    The problem is
    declare

    begin
    v_query :='(select empno,ename,deptno from emp where hiredate =' || control .value1 ||')';
    go_block('emp');
    set_block_property('emp',query_data_source_name,v_query);
    end;
    that bolded area is the problem that ia varchar value the single qoutes embedded with that value.how can i embedded single qoutes in that concatenation.
    That is now query will run like select empno,ename,deptno from emp where hiredate =control.value
    But we need like select empno,ename,deptno from emp where hiredate ='control.value'

    I successfully installed Arch following both the Beginners Guide and the dm-crypt guide to encrypt the entire disk.
    Although I set the KEYMAP HOOK in the mkinitcpio.conf and regenerated the image, the correct keymap is not pulled at boot, making me unable to enter the encryption password correctly.
    The only way for me to access my system right now is chrooting into it via the installation CD.
    I double-checked the content of /etc/vconsole.conf and it is set to the keymayp layout that I want. During boot the messages confirm that the keymap HOOK has been pulled and that the keymap is set, but apparently not to the layout specified in vconsole.conf.
    The keymap hook already worked a few days ago and I was able to decrypt the disk and boot into the system. Then I ran into some keymap issues in X. I played around with localectl to adjust the keymap settings for X and that's where I must have messed up because ever since then I got the above issue at boot.
    My working theory now is, that the settings I made for X somehow influence the keymap hook, maybe they override whatever is specified in vconsole.conf?
    Is that even possible? And if so, which files would I need to check?
    And if it's not: what do I do now?
    Edit: I was unable to figure this out so I resorted to a new install. Didn't screw up this time and everything works perfectly now. I definetely recommend the use of a keyfile to anyone who uses a different keymap. That way, if your layout ever gets screwed up you can still decrypt your system via the keyfile.

    I'm following the link recommendations.
    I created a configuration file $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/fontconfig/fonts.conf containing:
    <?xml version='1.0'?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
    <fontconfig>
    <match target="font">
    <edit name="antialias" mode="assign">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit name="hinting" mode="assign">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit name="hintstyle" mode="assign">
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <test name="weight" compare="more">
    <const>medium</const>
    </test>
    <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
    <bool>false</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter">
    <const>lcddefault</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    </fontconfig>
    and I change the rule overriding:
    # mv 50-user.conf 00-user.conf
    I'm still testing the system. The problem don't appears again after the configuration... yet!
