Problem getting a LONG RAW value

Hi,
I cannot make this code work:
OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand("ABC$MYPACKAGE.GetLogo", new OracleConnection(_constr));
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
cmd.InitialLONGFetchSize = -1;
cmd.Connection.Open();
cmd.BindByName = true;
OracleParameter p = cmd.Parameters.Add("parameter_no1", OracleDbType.Decimal);
p.Value = 10549923;
p.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
p = cmd.Parameters.Add("parameter_no2", OracleDbType.Decimal);
p.Value = 656427;
p.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
p = cmd.Parameters.Add("RETCURSOR", OracleDbType.RefCursor);
p.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;
OracleDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();
if (reader.Read())
... code here ...
cmd.Connection.Close();
It keeps throwing AccessViolationException when executing the reader.Read() statement.
The only value the ref cursor returns is a LONG RAW, but it fails even before I try to access that through the reader. I cant seem to find the problem!
regards,
Carl

Can you try out changing ExecuteReader to ExecuteNonQuery and get OracleDataReader from the OracleRefCursor stored in p.Value?
Something like -
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
OracleRefCursor cur = p.Value;
OracleDataReader reader = cur.GetDataReader();

    LONG RAW and BLOB are very different data types. Oracle has been suggesting for quite a while that folks migrate from LONG RAW to BLOB-- it's much easier to work with BLOB data than LONG RAW data...
    How much data, roughly, do you have in these columns. If it's relatively small, you may be able to use UTL_RAW.LENGTH. If it's longer, though, I believe you have to write a program that reads all the data and calculates the length as you go, which is obviously not particularly efficient...

  • Problem getting pl/sql return value

    Hi,
    I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.2 to generate web service from pl/sql package. But the return value is always zero.
    The function is as follows:-
    FUNCTION GET_LIMIT ( v1 IN NUMBER, v2 IN NUMBER)
    RETURN NUMBER IS
    v_result_nr NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    v_result_nr := v1 * v2;
    END;
    RETURN v_result_nr;
    END GET_LIMIT;
    The result on webservices endpoint page:
    .. - <ns1:getLimitResponse xmlns:ns1="http://com/test/webservices/LimitCheckWS.wsdl" SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/">
    <return xsi:type="xsd:decimal" xsi:nil="true" />
    </ns1:getLimitResponse>
    If i change the "RETURN v_result_nr" to "RETURN '1000.00'" and regenerate the web service, the return value as string is ok. The response is 1000.00 xsd:string.
    Any idea why? Thx.

    Ok. problem solved. Setup 10g server using loadjava as per document "1.2.4.4 Verifying or Loading the dbwsclient.jar File". Thanks.

    Hi,
    a) Find out for which <b>table</b> this long text is linked.
    b) Go to <b>TTXOB</b> table and in the field <b>TDOBJECT</b>, check whether this entry is present.
    c) If present, then use FM READ_TEXT, to get the long text value.
    Important parameters to be passed in READ_TEXT
    a) ID
    b) Language (EN??)
    c) Name   ( I believe in this case it would be ZEILE)

  • Long Raw - truncation

    Hello,
    We have a table called MSG_SEND in this table we have a long raw
    column called MAB and we can't change the data type because it belongs to another vendor.
    This column typically contains XML Data's.
    We don't have rights to this table. But we have function granted which does the insertion (using prepared statement is ruled out). This works fine in Oracle but in java..
    We sent the data through a java method callablestatement.setBytes() .In this approach.During insertion the data got truncated. In other words if the length of the byte is more than 2k bytes , only the first 2k bytes got inserted.
    While trying to insert the Long Raw value using the function, we encountered the following exception.

    The standard behaviour is implemented via the CSS3 text-overflow property, I don't think there is a simple CSS option that is widely supported by the browsers to truncate at the beginning (looks like it's only supported in FF 9).
    text-overflow - CSS | MDN
    .sapUiLblNowrap {
      white-space: nowrap;
      overflow: hidden;

  • Getting the contents of a LONG RAW column

    Hi, I'm using Oracle 8.1.7 with JDK 1.4.0, and I've got a dilemma. I have a table that has several columns, one column is a LONG RAW, the rest are just NUMBER or VARCHAR2. I need to transer the contents of particular rows to another table with the same structure. I've got a query the gets the correct rows, and I create and use a ResultSet to getInt(), getString(), and set the parameters of a PreparedStatement. Here's my problem, when I try to do a getBytes() on the LONG RAW column, it says "Stream already closed."
    I was able to get around this in the past by just doing another query where the only column I selected was the LONG RAW column. Then it would let me do the getBytes(). Unfortunately, besides being inefficient, it is not possible to have 2 queries any longer. I was reading a little about this in the documentation, but I couldn't get a very good feel for it. Is there a way I can do one query and select all the rows, and still be able to pull out that data? Is there anything I'm missing? It seems like it's harder than it should be. Any advice? Thanks!
    Tobin Juday

    OK, I may have spoken too soon. I still seem to have the problem. Here's a chunk of my code, am I missing something dumb? Thank you...
    resultSet1 = query1.getResultSet();
    insert = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT....?,?,?)");
    while (resultSet1.next())
    insert.setBytes(23,resultSet1.getBytes("progtxt"));
    insert.setInt(1, version);
    insert.executeUpdate();
    }

  • Reading and Inserting Value in Long Raw

    Hi guys !!
    I have a table with 15 columns out of which RESUME column has data type long Raw. I want to copy this table to another table with selectd columns and validation. I want to check whether RESUME column is NULL. How to achieve it ?
    Similarly, using VB how to insert and retrieve values in such column ?
    thanx in advance

    do one thing ,
    Create a summary item for detail amount column, say m_tot_amt
    Set its fol. properties
    Calculation Mode : Summary
    Summary : Sum
    Summ.Blk : Your detail blk
    Summ. Item : Your detail amount item
    Also, Set Query all records of your detail block as Yes
    Then In PRE-INSERT/ PRE_UPDATE of detail block, write
    :COP_ORDER_HEADER.DISCOUNT_AMOUNT := nvl(:m_tot_amt,0) ;

        }The problem is, the getSelectedValues() returns the values from the initial state of the page. The is no mark of the changes made by the user. Any help will be appreciated
    Thanks,

    Your approach is somewhat odd. The selected values are just reflected in the groupIds, but you're overridding it with backing.getSomeIds() each time when the getter is called.
    Here is a basic working example:<h:selectManyCheckbox value="#{myBean.selectedItems}">
        <f:selectItems value="#{myBean.selectItems}"/>
    </h:selectManyCheckbox>
    <h:commandButton value="submit" action="#{myBean.action}" />MyBeanprivate List<String> selectedItems;
    private List<SelectItem> selectItems;
    // + getters + setters
    // You can use initialization block or constructor to prepopulate the selectItems.
        selectItems = new ArrayList<SelectItem>();
    //or
    public MyBean() {
        selectItems = new ArrayList<SelectItem>();
    public void action() {
        // The selected items are reflected in selectedItems.
        for (String selectedItem : selectedItems) {
            System.out.println(selectedItem);
    }

  • Problem getting parameter  values at the service end point

    I am having problem getting parameter values at the service end point. I created service end point and this method is having 35 parameters and then i created test client file using Sun One Studio 5. but when i run this test client and make a call to service it sends wrong value to first three parameters to the service end point. I tried all the way round but it gave me same sort of problem. I change the order of parameters change the names of parameters but it didnt work. And then i started chopping of parameter from the left side. And my problem is solved when my parameter list reached to 12 from 35. So is it a bug or some problem with my configuration or some thing else.
    I am using sun one studio 5 with sun one app 7. My service end point does very simple thing. It only takes out put of the parameter to the server log file. And my wsdl file seems all right. There is no conflict with the count and data type of the parameter information it contains.

    I just found that there is a bug with Sun One Studio 5. It creates faulty JSP file to test the client for the web services. With above problem I tested my web services using different developing environment such as Jdeveloper 10g. I created client stub using wsdl file generated by sun one studio. And made call to my web service and all the parameter reached perfectly at service end point. And then I used stub class created by sun one studio for the client and made the same call. And it also went well. So the problem is with the test application (JSP File) sun one creates for my web service.
    This is the majore problem i faced during the development. But still there is many problem along with this which is not seriouse enough but requires attension. I would like sun developers to make sun one studio IDE simpler and handy .

  • How to get image out from LONG RAW from the database

    Dear fellow Oracle users
    I have a table about 50,000 rows one of the the column is LONG RAW.. and we store image files within this column ... almost 99% is gif format.
    Does anyone able to recommand a way to get ALL these images out of the database and save it into a directory. May be a batch process or may be some kind of tools?
    Not all the rows consists of images (i.e some of the the long raw can be null for some row) .
    Any sample codes are very much appreciated...(I am okay with PL/SQL , a little rusty with Java coding but okay to pick it up again...)
    regards
    Ivan

    Hi,
    if u are using oracle forms than u can integrate Webutil with it, there are many function available within webutil to do this.

  • OdbcDataReader + LONG RAW problem

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get picture data stored in long raw field with odbcdatareader (with CommandBehaviour.SequentialAccess).
    But when i read data, GetBytes function always return 0.
    What can i do ?
    while(dr.Read())
    retval = dr.GetBytes(0,startIndex,buffer,0,bufferSize);
    while(retval == bufferSize)
    startIndex += bufferSize;
    retval = dr.GetBytes(0,startIndex,buffer,0,bufferSize);
    }

    I haven't worked specifically with long raw and JDBC.
    There is a bug in the Oracle 9i OCI driver that limits the insert size of long raw to 50k. Are you using the OCI driver? Can you try the thin driver?
    Oracle has a 32k limit on the server side internal driver for long raw.
    I have seen documentation on a 32k limit returned when accessing / inserting long raw in PL/SQL. Is it possible that the message is being returned from the SP rather then as an issue with the driver (i.e. maybe you could stream a long raw > 32k directly and not go through an SP)?
    Do you have to use long raw? Can you use one of the LOB types? If you can move to an LOB type you should.
    Not as much help as you probably need. If you have to stay with long raw, perhaps someone with JDBC long raw experience will see your post and help out.

  • Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click

    Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click and hold shift key and be able to get to it. Anyone figured this out?

    The "legacy" metadata editors, for which there was a "back door" in iTunes 12.0, have gone from 12.1.  However, the revised editors in 12.1 provide access to (almost) all the metadata elements that were available in iTunes 11, albeit in a different layout and with some additional constraints based on media kind.  Some users have / will have an issue with the statement that "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item" since that removes some metadata elements that people may have been using in creative ways.  iTunes 12.1 basically gives you access to the fields that Apple think are necessary ... .  Some of the things that have been excluded by this rule:
    track and disc number fields for video media kinds
    show and episode fields for music
    description tab for audiobooks made up of more than one file
    Obviously the first two examples can be regarded as "overloading" the metadata elements - i.e., using them in ways that the designers didn't intend - but given that some users do find valid cases for this it's a shame that they've been deprecated in the new UI.  There are couple of workarounds:
    in songs view (or any of the other columnar views), you can still select any fields to display, independent of media kind, and these can be edited (though only one at a time) by double-clicking in the relevant "cell"
    you can (temporarily) change the media kind of an item (or group of items) to get access to metadata elements that would otherwise be inaccessible.
    It may be worth submitting an issue via https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html - I can't see it as a huge development task to have a user preference to switch between "show all fields" and "filter fields based on media kind".
    One other oddity/irritation is that some of the tabs don't, by default, show all the available fields - you need to scroll up/down to access them or to expand the window by dragging on one of its corners.  Fortunately, the latter seems to be persistent - once you've done this to make all the fields visible the editor will open at the same (larger) size when opened again.

    We have a LONG RAW column.
    JDev mapped it to Raw and LONGVARBINARY as SQL type.
    Reading data (even huge amounts) works alright, but when we try to insert or update we get:
    Data size bigger than max size for this type
    I did some reading on the internet and found that I had to stream data into JDBC which Raw apparently cannot handle.
    So how can I solve this?
    And please, don't just write "Create a domain". I tried. It's not that easy for me. It should be a bit more specific.
    Thanks in advance!
    Sascha

    You not only have to create a Domain but also implement either BlobDomainInterface or one of it's subclassed interfaces.
    See oracle.jbo.domain.BlobDomainInterface (source in bc4jdomorcl-src.zip) for an example of how various interface methods are implemented.
    When a domain implements BlobDomainInterface, it's called during load/save Entity data to setup it's transaction context (if it needs to during load) and to save it's content into the db using the given transaction context.
    These interfaces are written with the assumption that there's an oracle.sql.* class that knows how to use transaction to fetch data using SQL-locator objects. In this case I believe you will need to extend the domain from oracle.sql.RAW class.
