Problem in Connecting to SQL DB through Java

Could this error be my fault or would it be the servers fault that i cannot connect to it?
the connect file is
jdbc.driver:     org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver
jdbc.url:     jdbc:mysql://babyhuey.cis.temple.edu/books
jdbc.username:     1234
jdbc.password:     5678
Enter Filename: bookstore.dat to start your book collection
bookstore.dat

Java Result: 1if there is not enough information i can supply more of my code thanks

So to debug it you start with the following
   babyhuey.cis.temple.edu:3306 First might as well validate the domain. On windows you do this
   nslookup babyhuey.cis.temple.eduFor me I get the following result which indicates the domain exists.
   Name:    babyhuey.cis.temple.edu
    Address:  155.247.182.88So now you check the port by telneting to it
   telnet    babyhuey.cis.temple.edu 3306 And this fails due to connection failure.
That proves conclusively that there is no open port for that domain and that port.
So that means one of the following is true.
1. The domain you are using is wrong. Solution: Ask the professor.
2. The port you are using is wrong. Solution: Ask the professor.
3. The school does not have the network configured correctly. Solution: Your professor must solve this via the network admin at the school.
4. The school does not allow you to access this from outside the school. Solution: Your professor needs to explain to you that that you must do it only at the school (or perhaps he did and you missed that part.)
Further googling I found that 3306 would seem to be a likely port for MySQL. That would tend to suggest that 2 is not the explaination.

  • Getting problem when connecting to SMTP server through java code

    Hi all,
    I am getting problem when i am going to connect with "Kerio SMTP server" through java code. The error what i am getting is :
    "[16/Sep/2008 15:59:09] Sent: Queue-ID: 48cf8a73-000000f9, Recipient: <[email protected]>, Result: failed, Status: 5.3.2 554 5.0.0 Too many hops (101, max 100), message looping" when sending an email from [email protected]

    Looks like something is set up wrong on your server that's causing messages
    to be forwarded around a loop too many times without ever reaching the destination.
    For instance, if server A forwards to server B, and server B forwards to server A,
    this would happen.

  • Having problem while connecting to SQL Server through a application

    hi guys ,
    having one problem while connecting to the SQL SERVER 2008 R2 through a application (Dynamics NAV), by using the concept of Linked Server.
    But one more thing , i am able to access that very SQL server through my app , when i am working locally , i mean to say that when i am working on the machine itself on which the server is installed then its working fine .
    But when i am working on another system the query doesn't work.

    by using the concept of Linked Server.
    Why through a linked server and not directly as a simple remote connection? I don't think you app is aware of linked server.

  • How do i connect to sql server using java?

    hi ever body
    i need to connect to sql server using java
    what is the driver i will use?
    thanks

    Microsoft make a jdbc driver and it is readily available through MSDN. Here is a link http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/data/aa937724.aspx. Whatever jdbc driver you are looking for, Google it, and if it exists you'll find it in 10 seconds.

  • Exceuting SQL Script through java

    Hi All
    I am making an installer for my application. How do i execute a SQL script through java. Its a sepeate file that has the SQL script for DB creation.
    Regards
    Abhinav

    If you database support ";" to separate sqll, then you can use Statement.execute(sql); to run all SQLscipt once, otherwise you need to load all sqls into Vector, then reun sql step by step. Copy some code for instance:
    public final static Object[] getSQLStatements(String sqlFile) throws java.
    io.IOException {
    java.util.Vector v = new java.util.Vector(1000);
    try {
    java.io.BufferedReader br = new java.io.BufferedReader(new java.io.
    FileReader(sqlFile));
    java.util.Vector batchs = new java.util.Vector(10);
    String temp;
    while ( (temp = br.readLine()) != null) {
    temp = temp.trim();
    if (temp.length() == 0)
    continue;
    switch (temp.charAt(0)) {
    case '*':
    case '"':
    case '\'':
    // System.out.println(temp);
    break; //Ignore any line which begin with the above character
    case '#': //Used to begin a new sql statement
    if (batchs.size() > 0) {
    v.addElement(getSQLStatements(batchs));
    batchs.removeAllElements();
    break;
    case 'S':
    case 's':
    case '?':
    if (batchs.size() > 0) {
    v.addElement(getSQLStatements(batchs));
    batchs.removeAllElements();
    v.addElement(temp);
    break;
    default:
    batchs.addElement(temp);
    break;
    if (batchs.size() > 0) {
    v.addElement(getSQLStatements(batchs));
    batchs.removeAllElements();
    br.close();
    br = null;
    catch (java.io.FileNotFoundException fnfe) {
    v.addElement(sqlFile); //sqlFile is a sql command, not a file Name
    Object[] statements = new Object[v.size()];
    for (int i = 0; i < v.size(); i++)
    statements[i] = v.elementAt(i);
    return statements;
    for (int i = 0; i < statements.length; i++) {

  • MARS connection to SQL Server in JAVA via ODBC

    Hello.
    I've got this problem.
    I'm managing an application JAVA/JSP, based on a 3-tier architecture.
    The connection to the database is performed via JDBC/ODBC, in order to work with different DRMS.
    Everything is ok when connecting to Oracle or MySql via JDBC, but when we connect to SQL Server via ODBC we get this error: "ODBC SQL SERVER - Connection is busy with result for another stmt".
    That's why the application executes more than one SQL statement, opening a ResultSet object, under the same connection.
    This is the way the application is performing, and we can't change it.
    I've read that on SQL Server 2005 is available a new connection parameter called MARS (Multiple Active Result Sets), that should resolve this problem.
    But I was not able to find any way to invoke this type of connection in JAVA for an ODBC connection! (I've found only tips for .NET...).
    Many thanks if somebody can suggest me how to resolve this problem.
    It's urgent!

    Use JDBC. Get a SQL server JDBC driver. Unfortunately I don't know of any free ones, but one I have used in the past is from http://www.jnetdirect.com/
    Maybe you can search in the JDBC forum for the answer - Its a common enough question I know.

    Kumar,
    not sure whether this is any help, but you can try and use the code below.
    I've knocked it together in about an hour so it's far from production ready (particularly, assumes one-line comments starting with '#' and nothing else - queries are assumed multi-line, but terminated by ';' the following would cause trouble:
    SELECT * FROM table; SELECT *
    FROM another_table;
    and, of course, you can't get to the ResultSet.
    But, hey, it's a start!
    Best,
    Marco.

    ======================
    import java.sql.*;
    public class Exemple1 {
    public static void main (String args[]) {
    Statement stmt = null;
    Connection con=null;
    try {
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    con = DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:GB","scott","tiger");
    catch (Exception e) { System.out.println(e);        }
    =================
    I have :

    * Oracle 10g
    My var. environ.:

    If

    is replaced
    with
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");does the java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: while resolving class: oracle.sql.CharacterSet get generated?

  • How i connect to SQL server using java?

    hi every body
    i need to connect to a sql server database using java
    i do not know sql driver in java
    plz help me
    thanks

    This is certainly the wrong forum for that question. Search in the JDBC forum. This has been asked and answered many times.

  • .sql file through Java and procedures

    I want to execute .sql file (on my local system) to run on a oracle database.
    Also please tell me how can I run multiple procedure simultenously through Java class.
    Thanks in Anticipation

    First you need a multi-CPU machine or you're never going to execute more than one statement at once.
    Next you need to know how to create a multithreaded program.
    After that, you need to figure out how to read that file and separate the statements in it so each can be fed to one of those threads.

    2) i update my classpath with the .Jar lib file of the driver .
    3) when creating the connection
    i'm using the
    Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver");
    this is Ok , the driver was loaded .
    4) when trying the GetConnction
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection

    Ron,
    Try following this document
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/bc4j/bc_psqlserverwalkthrough.html
    from the how-tos archive.
    Also, try to change the compiler encoding to UTF-8. you do this in the project setting window.

  • Unable to connect to SQL database through ODBC calls

    I have been looking around for an answer to this, but haven't found the exact issue I'm seeing.
    I have several Excel spreadsheets which have been working until recently, which use an ODBC call to a remote SQL database. The database is running, remote connections are allowed. The SQL server is in a domain which has no external trusts. Users with accounts
    in this domain can remotely access the SQl databases through ODBC just fine. Users who do not have domain accounts in this domain are being denied access by their domain account, and the SQL authentication is not passed through, even though remote access is
    set to allow "everyone", and the database is set to Windows authentication and SQL authentication. This worked until early this week (the spreadsheet was created in 2010), and I have been looking fruitlessly for a fix ever since. As far as I know,
    no changes were made to group policy on this domain, and no changes were made to the server or database recently, except Microsoft patches. None of the patches this month looked like they would affect this.

    It works locally on the server and remotely for users in the same domain. I am trying to use the SQL account and password to connect to the database, but users from outside this domain fail to reach the SQL database for authentication. It looks like Windows
    authentication is not passing the SQL credentials on if the windows authentication fails. I don't know how to resolve this. The only options in SQL are "Windows authentication and SQL authentication" or "Windows authentication only". The database is already
    set to the first option. Somehow, I need to set the server to allow the SQL authentication even if the Windows authentication fails.
    Hi pkuti01,
    SQL Server mixed mode is "Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication", we have to restart SQL Server service after change the authentication to mixed mode.
    In your case, have you got any error message/information if you faild connect to SQL Server via ODBC? If so, please post them to us for further investigation. Furthermore, here is an article regarding steps to troubleshooting SQL connectivity issues for
    your reference. Please see:
