Problem in executing statement

Question

Hi,
I have table EMP which has a primary key on EMPNO column.
I want to drop the primary key with the below statement:
"alter table emp drop primary key"
It's showing error as "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small".
ALso,
I 'm getting the error "ORA-00604 error occurred at recursive SQL level 1" while creating any function or procedure.
I'm totally confused how the error is creeping into it.
Could anyone help me out.

Souvik,
I am not sure that this is the right behaviour. On which version you are? Things are working as expected for me over my 11gr1 db,
SQL> select * from V$version;
BANNER
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
CORE    11.1.0.6.0      Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
SQL> create table emp_c as select * from emp;
Table created.
SQL> alter table emp_c add primary ket(empno);
alter table emp_c add primary ket(empno)
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01735: invalid ALTER TABLE option
SQL> alter table emp_c add primary key(empno);
Table altered.
SQL> alter table emp_c drop primary key;
Table altered.
SQL>It may be that you need to put a patch over your db.
