Problem in  Oracle EM (Database Limits - Current Open Cursors)

Hi everyone,
I have a problem in Oracle Enterprise Manager in All Metrics.
When I select in All Metrics e.g. Health Check > Maintenance it work's fine and I see a chart.
If I select in All Metrics > Database Limits > Current Open Cursors Count I got following error:
Error
oracle.sysman.dbTarget.db.emSDKOverride.page.mtrx.GetDataException: ORA-06550: Zeile 79, Spalte 16: PL/SQL: ORA-00942: Tabelle oder View nicht vorhanden ORA-06550: Zeile 51, Spalte 7: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
What's the problem?
In this database instance i drop these users (schemas): dbuser, mddata, ordplugins, ordsys, si_informtn_schema!!
Can this lack of user to cause an error?
Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control 10.2.0.0
Database instance: myDB > All Metrics > Database Limits > Current Open Cursors Count
Thanks.
Mark

Hello Mark,
personally I don;t think it is a good idea to drop schema's from the database that have been installed as part of the activation of a certain Database Option. If you don't want the option, then don't instal it.
For a complete description of the schema's you are refering to, check: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10575/tdpsg_user_accounts.htm#BABGIBBA

  • "Current Open Cursors Count" Warning

    I am getting this warning lately in my Grid Control repository database
    Metrics "Current Open Cursors Count" is at 1563
    Open cursors value fluctuates between 1400 and 2300.
    Is my open cursor threshold set too low (warning: default 1200, critical: not defined) and this is normal Grid Control behavior or I have some kind of problem here?
    Oracle 10g Grid Control (10.2.0.5)
    Linux x86

    Actually, it is just a message telling you that the Open Cursor Count has exceeded the threshold limit. If the number of open cursors continues to increase over time (from day to day, and constantly gets larger and larger, never gets smaller) then it may indicate a problem.
    I would suggest that you set the threshold to at least 2300, then wait and see if the alert shows up again. If it does then further analysis may be required to determine the root cause.
    I hope this helps!

  • Current Open Cursors Count growing and growing

    Current Open Cursors Count appears to be a cumulative count and always growing since instance is started.
    Warning threshold of 1200 occurs quickly and regular warnings appears on OEM.
    (Oracle 10.1.0.4 on RHEL4AS Linux fresh install)
    The value reported on OEM correspond to:
    select name,value from v$sysstat where name like '%cursors current%';
    result: opened cursors current 194209
    Current open cursors are not
    select count(*) from v$open_cursor;
    which returns a more reasonable value: 293
    Any ideas about that ?
    Nicolas

    i have a tar opened on this .. its a bug with the database.
    After finding the query that OEM runs against the db, you
    will find that the stats the db is gathering at the database level are wrong .. they are cumulative. So until they patch the db, the metric in OEM is useless. Remove the warning/critical levels in the manage metric screen.
    NOTE: they dont use v$open_cursors .. that would be to easy :-)

  • Metrics " Current Open Cursors Count "

    Hi,
    I get an Alert message Metrics " Current Open Cursors Count is at 1201 '" on 10g database version 10.2.0.1.0 . Can anyone help me to solve this.
    Thanks
    Sree

    Sree,
    The Metric corresponds to the number of records in V$OPEN_CURSOR internal view.
    The number of open cursors is a function of the number of concurrent users and the application code ,so 1201 may not necessaryly indicate a problem – it could be that you system is genuinely very busy.
    You should start worrying if the number of open cursors consistently grows over time (while the workload is steady). In this case you may have a “cursor leak” – a piece of code that opens a cursor, but does not close it.
    You can check that with
    select substr(sql_text,1,30) , count(*) cnt
    from v$open_cursor
    group by substr(sql_text,1,30)
    order by 2 desc
    If the current open cursor are getting close to the max allowed(OPEN_CURSOR parameter), you may reset them using share pool flush (note that the shared pool flush may have some small performance impact on the system).
    Hope that helps,

  • Problem running oracle 9i database in archivelog mode - database freezes

    Greetings,
    I recently needed to change a (test) database to archivelog mode to make online back-ups of this database. This posed no real problem although I seem to be unable to set the database to automatic archiving eventhough I edited the init.ora file (translation of the "archive log list" output between square brackets):
    SQL> archive log list
    Databaselogmodus Archiveermodus [Databaselogmode: Archivemode]
    Automatisch archiveren Gedeactiveerd [Automatic archiving: Deactivated]
    Archiveerbestemming O:\oracle\ora92\RDBMS [Archivedestionation: O:\oracle\ora92\RDBMS]
    Oudste on-line logreeks 12306
    Volgende logreeks voor archivering 12306
    Huidige logreeks 12308
    I added this to my init.ora file:
    # Archvie Log Destinations
    log_archive_start=TRUE
    log_archive_dest_1=%ORACLE_HOME%\database\archive
    log_archive_format="%%ORACLE_SID%%t_%s.arc"
    However, this is not the real problem (maybe it has something to do with it, which is why I mention it aswell), the real problem is that my database freezes when the archive log file is "full". When the archive file reaches ~102.400Kb it just freezes up and I need to restart the database.
    The following error is written to the alert_sid.log file:
    Thu Apr 17 09:19:55 2008
    Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 12309
    All online logs needed archiving
    Current log# 2 seq# 12308 mem# 0: O:\ORACLE\ORADATA\O\REDO02.LOG
    The problem seems to be that the oracle service can't start a new logfile when the previous one is full. Does anybody know how I could fix this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bram

    Hello Maran, thanks for your quick response.
    I added the output of archivelog list in the original post, but it's in dutch so here's the (loose) translation of the output:
    SQL> archive log list
    Databaselog mode Archive mode
    Automatic archiving Deactivated
    Archive destionation O:\oracle\ora92\RDBMS
    Oldest on-line logsequence 12307
    Next logsequence for archiving 12307
    Current logsequence 12309
    Maybe something that can help with the troubleshooting:
    The archivelog file is written to O:\oracle\ora92\RDBMS but only AFTER the reboot, I've checked SYSTEM rights to the folder and it has full control.
    Babu, thanks aswell for your quick response.
    The location exists and space is available but the database doesn't seem to load (that part of) the ora.init file because the output of archive log list still refers to %ORACLE_HOME%\rdbms instead of %ORACLE_HOME%\database\archive.
    I've now executed alter system archive log all; and am executing the import where the database usually freezes to see if it still happens. So far I already had this written to the alert_sid.log file after executing the command:
    Completed: alter database open
    Thu Apr 17 10:00:11 2008
    ARCH: Evaluating archive log 1 thread 1 sequence 12307
    ARCH: Beginning to archive log 1 thread 1 sequence 12307
    Creating archive destination LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1: 'O:\ORACLE\ORA92\RDBMS\ARC12307.001'
    ARCH: Completed archiving log 1 thread 1 sequence 12307
    ARCH: Evaluating archive log 2 thread 1 sequence 12308
    ARCH: Beginning to archive log 2 thread 1 sequence 12308
    Creating archive destination LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1: 'O:\ORACLE\ORA92\RDBMS\ARC12308.001'
    ARCH: Completed archiving log 2 thread 1 sequence 12308
    And new log files were written to the directory (O:\oracle\ora92\RDBMS) and this time I didn't have to reboot for it to happen. Both were 100mb files without the database actually doing all that much though.

  • Security problem in oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant

    Inside the tool Oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant there is an option by which you can make a "copy" of your Database. This "copy" is called a template and you don4t need any password or aunthentication to do it, you just need the tool to be installed in your server. Once you have a template, you can bring it anywhere and recreate the original database (including data). Again, you don't need any password or aunthentication to do it, further more, in the last step of this process you can change the password of any user (inluding SYS, SYSTEM or another DBA user). The thing about this is that anyone with access to the computer where the database is can make a template of it, take this template to another computer and recreate my database having FULL access to it (structure, data, code ...). And everything without needing any password!!!. I really thing that it is a big problem. Is there any way of preventing this operation?. How can I safely protect my database?. I thought about unistalling the product, but someone can re-install it and everything would be the same. Can someone give me an answer?
    Thanks for everything.
    Pablo Cuenca

    You must protect your database from casual browsing at the OS level. This is not a security hole, per se, since this is a known issue with any and all software. Database Configuration Assistant is not needed for this since one may copy the database without it.

  • Oracle 6i forms issue with Oracle 9i Database

    Hi Friends,
    I am having Oracle Forms Developer installed with patchset18.The Version is 6.0.8.27.0
    When i connect the forms builder to 9i Database (9.2.0.1) the form builder is getting crashed but i am able to connect the forms builder to e-business suite database(9.2.0.6)
    I tried installing 9i Database(9.2.0.1) on windows 2003 server,windows xp,windows 2000.
    When i connect my forms builder to any of these databases the forms builder is crashing with don't send message error on (ifbld60.exe).
    Is there any compatibility issue between forms builder(6i) and oracle 9i(9.2.0.1).Please suggest me.
    Regards,
    Arun .N

    Forms 6i connects to Oracle 9 databases just fine, even though it is no longer certified by Oracle.
    First of all, can you connect to the database with SQL Plus? Make sure that works first.
    The other thing that comes to mind is the AL32UTF8 character set. Forms 6i and other older Oracle software cannot connect to databases using it. But I have only seen that problem with Oracle 10g databases, so I am not sure about the Oracle 9 db.
    Here is a thread discussing the problem: Re: connecting form 6i  to oracle database 10G express edition

  • Viewer leaving open cursors in Oracle

    We are using the JRC to display reports in our software. We are running jboss-4.2.0 as our application server. The backend could be either SQL Server or Oracle. For Oracle we are using the oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver driver. The reports are set up using a JDBC (JNDI) connection. Generally we have it working ok but in Oracle the JRC is leaving open cursors leading to  ORA-01000: MAXIMUM OPEN CURSORS EXCEEDED. I have found that a new cursor is opened when the data source is changed in the following code snippet
    Iterator tableIT = tableNames.iterator();
    while (tableIT.hasNext()) {
      ITable oldTable = (ITable)tableIT.next();
      ITable table = (ITable) ((IClone)oldTable).clone(true);
      table.setQualifiedName(table.getName());
      clientDoc.getDatabaseController().setTableLocation(oldTable, table);
    When we hit the last line in this loop, a new cursor is opened in Oracle so if a report has 10 tables, I get 10 cursors opened. I know that I need to close the cursors somehow but nothing I do seems to make a difference. After my processHttpRequest call to the viewer I added:
    crystalReportPageViewer.getReportSource().dispose();
    clientDoc.getReportSource().dispose();
    The code definately executes but the the number of open cursors in Oracle does not change. I am at a loss.

    A couple more things to think about then.
    1.  When you go through your loop to set your table location, you are using the clone method to create a new table and then pass that table to the report.  Cloning tables is no longer necessary with the JRC.  We do know that a fix was provided for the JRC SDK, however this fix would probably not have been applied to the clone method since it has been deprecated.
    I have attached a sample that shows the new methodology for setting table location; very similar, just not using clone anymore.
    2.  When you want to destroy any connections that the ReportClientDocument has made, you will need to call .close() on this object.  This can be done in conjunction with the viewer.dispose().  One thing to note is that if you call the .close() method, it will need to be done as the user is closing the browser, or you will not have access to your report object when you have it open in the HTML Viewer.
