Problem in querying synonym using cachedRowSet & cachedDataProvider
Hi....
I have some trouble using cachedRowSet and cachedDataProvider combination. The problem was occured when I refreshed chachedDataProvider, my table component in pages show "No items found.", whereas... i'm sure there is nothing wrong with my query.
here the detail
i have cachedRowSet in my SessionBeans1 named globalRowSet
globalRowSet.setDataSourceName("java:comp/env/jdbc/MIMSOE_Oracle");
globalRowSet.setCommand("SELECT EQUIP_NO, ORIGINATOR_ID FROM ELLIPSE.MSF620 WHERE EQUIP_NO LIKE ?");
globalRowSet.setFetchSize(100);
globalRowSet.setMaxRows(100);
globalRowSet.setPageSize(100);and then i have data provider in my pages (TestPage.jsp), linked to globalRowSet, named cachedRowSetDataProvider1
cachedRowSetDataProvider1.setCachedRowSet((javax.sql.rowset.CachedRowSet) getValue("#{SessionBean1.globalRowSet}"));Note that in globalRowSet SQL command, there is a parameter (marked by '?'), so i put this code in init() method.
getSessionBean1().getGlobalRowSet().setObject(1, "%MUA21%");that code replace '?' in my query with '%MUA21%'. so in the first time i open the page, my table in TestPage.jsp dont display empty data. this code was worked.
then i put a button and a textfield in TestPage.jsp. I put them for dynamically changes my query parameter.
public String button1_action() {
try {
getSessionBean1().getGlobalRowSet().setObject(1, this.textField1.getText().toString());
this.cachedRowSetDataProvider1.refresh();
} catch (SQLException ex) {
Logger.getLogger(TestPage.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
return null;
}I ran my webpages, i hit the button, and i saw anomalies.
before i hit the button, my table shows a lot of records. but after i hit, my table shows nothing but "No items found." displayed in table body.
I debugged my code, and found nothing wrong with my query. I executed my query in separated sql editor and it works flawlessly,
I truncated my code line by line for debugging, and found this line of code was the main reason for that problem
this.cachedRowSetDataProvider1.refresh();I'm not sure why this line of code didnt work in my project. maybe this is because of my globalRowSet querying data from ORACLE synonym. please note that 'MSF620' in my query (SELECT EQUIP_NO, ORIGINATOR_ID FROM ELLIPSE.MSF620) is not a table, but synonym. I made same version but use oracle table (not synonym) and work fine...
can anyone help give me a solution for this issue? ...
please help..
i have no progression for last 2 weeks because of this issue.......
Hi Tushar,
In your SELECT you select only record for record and you put the result into the header line of the table.
Try:
SELECT posnr
FROM RESB
INTO TABLE IRESB
WHERE VORNR = '0010'
AND AUFNR = '720000100'.
Then you can loop over your internal table!.

John.

Problems with query that uses date as filter .
I have an application and it's have a form automatically generated by Apex, through a View. That view use instead of triggers to update , insert and delete, because the view use many tables..
But always that I run a query using filters, setting a period of date, some dates show data, but the majority not, even if they have data on the database.
I even looked for the datas in the table on Object's Browser and filter by the dates that has the problem and they showed the values registered on these dates.
But I don't have a idea why it doesn't show these values when I run the query.
Exemple of query used : select * from coresp where data_2 between '22/05/09' and '22/05/09';
this query return two lines, but in object's browser return more than 100 lines .

Edited by: user9537971 on 09/06/2009 07:01Hi,
You need to make sure that SQL knows that these are dates by using the TO_DATE() function:
select * from coresp where data_2 between TO_DATE('22/05/09','DD/MM/YY') and TO_DATE('22/05/09','DD/MM/YY')Andy -

Ingmarie GärdströIt sounds as if the Key Figure that you added to your query has been defined underlying RDBMS (e.g. Oracle) for your BW system as an alphanumeric (VARCHAR) and since the data isn't defined as being numeric, it can't sum the data. This might also be caused by an known problem the BW application and there may be an OSS Note, or more than one, that resolves this issue.

Query SQL database using JSF problem!! Using CachedRowSet
I'm using JSF and want to query data from SQL by using CachedRowSet like this,
rowset.setCommand("SELECT * FROM dbo.SomeTable WHERE SomeField='"+ xyz +"'");
then check if the record does exist by using
*if(rowset.next()) {/ do something with the retrieved data}*
but i get SQLException telling that execute() never called.
Anyone can tell me what i'm missing? or is there any better way to check the existence of a record ?
Thanks in advance :-)Hi grzegorz,
1. If your sap application server is unix/aix
(and not a microsoft OS),
2. then this kind of secondary databse connection,
to MS SQL (which is microsoft system),
is at present not possible.
(BCOS the required system files, for such
cross - platform connection is not delivery by sap)

Unable to parse query when using dblink in forms 4.5
Hi,
I have created a query that uses a DBlink because I need to do query on a table located on another dbase. I've used the query on creating my report using Reports 6i. The report needs to be called from a menu on our system, which was developed under Developer 2000 (forms 4.5). The problem is, when I tried to access the report from the menu, it returns the error 'unable to parse query'. What I did after getting error was to create a dummy module using Forms 6i, and call my report from there. It worked fine.
By the way, the table that I'm accessing using the dblink is under Oracle 9i dbase, and the dbase of the system that I've been working at is Oracle 8i.
I don't have any idea on what's causing this error. Is there a compatibility issue when using a dblink located in Oracle 9i database with forms 4.5?
Thanks!Hello,
Not sure if it is the good answer, but I know that Forms does not recognize dblink and owner.object syntax. You have to create a simple synomym that point to the distant object and use this synonym within Forms.

SQL Error using cachedrowSet.populate.
Hi,
I am trying to use cachedrowset to pass my result set into my jsp.
I use request.setAttribute and pass my cachedrowset and in my jsp I use <jsp:usebean> tag to retrieve it.
This usually works for me. However, I have one query which when I am trying to populate the cachedrowset with its result set (that is cr2 in code below )
rs2 = stmt.executeQuery(semSql);
rs3 = stmt.executeQuery(countSql);
crs2 = new CachedRowSet();
crs3 = new CachedRowSet();
crs2.populate(rs2);
crs3.populate(rs3);
is throwing an sql error.
I ran the query in my query analyzer tool and it runs fine. But when I try to populate it in cachedrowset it throws sql error.
I have more queries in the same java which I am passing to the jsp as cachedrowset (for example cr3 in the above code) And they all are working fine. Only this particular one is causing the issue.
I was also looking at some other posts with the same issue. One post said if the data is a negative number then it can cause issue while trying to populate a CRS. However, in my case there is no negative data.
I am clueless. Please help !!Apparently noone replied to this.
Well, this one is odd so cant blame you guys.
I finally found the answer after losing lots of my hair.
It looked like somewhere my connection was getting closed. I dont know why it was getting close at the first place because i didnt have any rs.close() or so statement in there.
One of the reasons that I have in mind is that after getting the results of my first query in a cachedrowset (CRS) , I moved the cursur of CRS and that may have caused some problem. But then also my second query was totally independant of my first query. And my third query which apparently was working fine and didnt thru an error on crs.populate was dependant on the first one,.
Finally, I rearraged the code, so that the operations i was doing on the first CRS was after I populate my second CRS. And that solved the problem.
Hope this solution helps somebody like me out there. -

WEB BASED MAPPING APPLICATION TO DEVELOP QUERY UTILITY USING MAPVIEWER
Dear Sir,
please any one can answer me as soon as possible its very urgent
WEB BASED MAPPING APPLICATION TO DEVELOP QUERY UTILITY USING MAPVIEWER
I As oracle mapviewer Chapter 8 (Oracle Maps) says generating our own Web based mapping application we are trying to generate our own maps for our own data contains in our layers like example boundary lines and roads and etc. and we are following complete example as described in Oracle Mapviewer Document Chapter 8.
Before this step we tried with demo data downloaded from OTN mvdemo. And we downloaded latest demo today itself from the OTN and imported into our database schema called mvdemo. And we copied all three jar files mvclient and mvconnection and mvpalette into our jdeveloper .
II. We created a jsp to execute the following code from oracle mapviewer chapter 8 documents

KabeerI currently use parameters, and they are passed from the form to the report. Report is then generated based on a function returning ‘strongly typed’ cursor. The ‘strongly typed’ cursor in my case returns a record consisting of an orderly collection of fields.
This collection of fields is returned by another function that relies on the IF … THEN logic.
However, the number of IF ... THEN statements is quite large (currently 64 covering all possible combinations of 6 parameters available in the form).
I would like to avoid the large number of IF … THEN statements, and hope that there is a way of passing a string to a query, where the Dynamic SQL would in Select close and Where close reflect parameters passed by the form.
In addition to this I would like to avoid creating and populating a table or a view dedicated to the report, because this may lead to a conflict in case of multiple users concurrently generating reports with different choice of parameters.

View with columns based on function - problem with query
Hi,
I'm using Oracle 9i;
I've created a view which has columns based on a table columns (multiple columns from 1 table) and funtion (multiple columns based on 1 function).
The function takes ID as the first argument and name of the column to determine which value to return as the second one.
Here is a sample of such function (simplified):
FUNCTION my_function
(in_id IN NUMBER, in_col_name IN VARCHAR2)
RETURN VARCHAR2
IS
c_name VARCHAR2(100);
c_last_name VARCHAR2(100);
BEGIN
SELECT T.NAME, T.LAST_NAME
INTO c_name, c_last_name
FROM TABLE_1 T, TABLE_2 Z
WHERE T.PK = Z.FK
AND Z.ID = in_id;
IF in_col_name = 'NAME' THEN
RETURN c_name;
ELSIF in_col_name = 'LAST_NAME' THEN
RETURN c_last_name;
END IF;
END;
For simplicty I've restricted the number of columns.
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW my_view
(ID, NAME, LAST_NAME)
AS
SELECT
T.ID ID
,CAST(my_function(T.ID,'NAME') AS VARCHAR2(100)) NAME
,CAST(my_function(T.ID,'LAST_NAME') AS VARCHAR2(100)) LAST_NAME
FROM TABLE T;
There is no problem with query:
SELECT * FROM my_view;
The problem arises when I query the view (regardles of '=' or 'LIKE'):
SELECT * FROM my_view
WHERE name LIKE '%some_part_of_name%'
The query returns rows for same names, for same it doesn't. If I put '=' and the whole name the query returns nothing, but when I put 'LIKE' and the first letter it returns rows in some cases.
I've tried to debug this situation and I've discovered that the function recives ID not in the proper order and not the same amount of times - in explicit:
for each ID in (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ... , 100) the function should be called twice for each ID and in the same order, but it does not.
I get 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 6, 20, 20 and so on.
Help needed.
Greetings.The problem is more complicated than the solutions provided here.
The reason why I'm using the function is this:
the original view was constructed using multiple union all selects and the speed was terrible. I've created the index on the base table to obtain a proper sort. For retriving all records at once the view works perfectly, but if one wants to query by columns based on function the results are suprisng - sometimes there are, some times there are none, or if you serch with "like" and only a part of string there are results, but with "=" there are no results.
Here are real DDLs:

Invalid Cursor Position Error on Windows XP using CachedRowSet
Hello, I don't know if this question lies here, but I thought it would be the well suited place so please pardon me if it isn't. I am trying to access multiple pages from my database on my XP machine but I am getting an "invalid cursor position" error when trying to access the next page. I don't know how this error is coming about because it works well on a Vista machine with no errors. I don't know if it is my drivers or something that brings about the problem. I am using mysql connecter 5.1.10, JRE 1.6.0_02 and windows XP SP2
Below is a simple code that brings the error.
package Admin; import javax.sql.rowset.CachedRowSet; import com.sun.rowset.CachedRowSetImpl; public class test { public void table() { try { CachedRowSet crs=new CachedRowSetImpl(); crs.setUrl("jdbc:mysql://host:3306/database"); crs.setUsername("User"); crs.setPassword("password"); crs.setCommand("select * from myTable"); int[] keys = {1}; crs.setKeyColumns(keys); crs.execute(); crs.last(); if(crs.getRow()>500){ //new overLimit(); } crs.setPageSize(3); crs.execute(); while (crs.next()) { System.out.print("page one----"); System.out.println(crs.getString(1)); } while(crs.nextPage()){ System.out.println("page two---"); while (crs.next()) { System.out.println("in page two"); System.out.println(crs.getString(1)); } } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } public static void main(String []args){ new test().table(); } }Yes I am running the same code on both machines. The output I get on the XP machine is shown below. I modified the code I posted earlier and replaced the "page two" text with "page (then page number)" and also omitted the "in page two" text for better readability---------PAGE 0---------

Invalid column name in query string - using Format function
In my post just before this one the problem was solved for writing a query string using a date range. The rest of the query string includes the same date field (Call_Date) but formatted as 'MMM-YY'. I get an invalid column name error when I add this field to the query string. Here is the rest of the query string:
strSql = "SELECT Format(CALL_DATE,'mmm-yy'), " _
& "HOME_REGION FROM CCC2.CASE_EPRP " _
& "WHERE (HOME_REGION = 'NCR') AND " _
"(CALL_DATE >= to_date( '1/1/2002', 'MM/DD/YYYY' )" _
& "AND CALL_DATE <= to_date( '2/28/2003', 'MM/DD/YYYY' ))"
In the Access Query tool I can include this field
Format(CALL_DATE,'mmm-yy')
and the query runs fine (I just need to make it dynamic using ADO). But in my ADO query string above, I get the invalid column name error. Is there a way I can include
Format(CALL_DATE,'mmm-yy')
in my ADO query string? I appologize for not being more familiar with Oracle Sql. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
RichThank you very much for your reply. I think I'm getting closer to the solution. Just I got an error message
"date format not recognized"
when I add "to_char( call_date, 'mmm-yy' )" to the query string. I tried using all uppercase, but that did not make a difference. Do I need to use to_date inside the to_char maybe?
to_char(to_date(call_date, 'mmm/yy'), 'mmm-yy')
Thanks again for your help.

Needs help to retrive the last row in a select query without using rownum
Hi ,
i need to retrive the last row from the select sub query without using rownum.
is there any other way to retrive the last row other than the below query.
is that the ROWNUM=1 will always retrive the 1 row of the select query ?
select from*
*(select ename from employee where dept_id=5 order by desc) where rownum=1;*
Please advise.
thanks for your help advance,

Actually my problem is ithat while selecting the parents hiearchy of the child data using
CONNECT BY PRIOIR query
I need the immediate parent of my child data.
For example my connect BY query returns
AAA --- ROOT
BBB --PARENT -2
CCC --PARENT-1
DDD IS my input child to the connect by query
Immediate parent of my child data "DDD" ---> CCC(parent -1)
i want the data "CCC" from the select query,for that i am taking the last row of the query with rownum.
I got to hear that using ROWNUM to retrive the data will leads to some problem.It is a like a magic number.I am not sure what the problem will be.
So confusing with using this rownum in my query.
Please advice!!!It's not quite clear what you're wanting, but perhaps this may help?
you can select the PRIOR values to get the parent details if you want...

Hi guys,
I'm trying to logical database MSM to report on material master but for some reason the following message appears:
The query specifications cannot be used to generate a list,
i.e. the query will probably not return the list you desire.
If you still want to execute the query, please use the
"Generate" function.
Errors are like this :
Fields from parallel tables within a line
Line: 01
Field: Post to Inspection Stock
(MARCV-INSMK, table MARCV)
Field: Item category group from material master
(MVKE-MTPOS, table MVKE)
Any idea what is the reason why this happens?
Thanks and regards

I know this is a long shot, but were you able to figure it out. I am having the same problem as we speak. I tried rearanging the fields according to the heirchy, it now works, but has a really bad output. Hope to hear from you.

Problem w/ image item using 9i BLOB field and InterMedia ORDImage Object
Hi,dear all,
I have a problem with image item in Form 6i. Oracle 9i is used as backend DB, and a table contains image data is created for testing:
create table image_test(
id number,
image blob
In Form 6i, there is no problem to create a block for inserting/updating the image record into the database. However, it can not be used to retrieve image (blob field), the image item remains empty after 'execute query', while the id field can be retrieved. When the same table is created in Oracle 8.1.7, and the exact same form can be used without any problem both in inserting and retrieval. It seems that the Oracle 9i does not use the same way to store BLOB column. Has anybody ever encountered this problem? How to retrieve image (BLOB) in Form 6i from Oracle 9i?
I tried to use interMedia ORDImage as the data type in Oracle 9i, that is,
create table image_test(
id number,
image ORDSYS.ORDImage
Same problem, the form can insert record with image, but when retrieving, nothing displayed. Anybody could help! Thanks in advance!hi!
well working with oracle8i and form6i.
same problem..but i used (instead of blob or clob as datatype..) Long raw..
it can be saved as usual..i mean Commit..
and can be retrieved..using Execute_Query..its working fine..
well if anybody get any other solution..do inform..

Problem in JDBC , when using LIKE operator. - VERY URGENT
Problem in JDBC , when using LIKE operator.
LINE 1 : String temp = "AA";
LINE 2 : String query = "select * from emp where EMPNAME like '*temp*' ";
LINE 3 : Staement st = con.createStaement();
LINE 4 : ResultSet rs = st.executeQuery(query);
'*' character is not getting evaluated. In MS ACCESS2000 only * is accepted instead of '%'. Moreover in MS ACCESS the like operator has to be used within double quotes as a String. whereas in other databases, it accepts single quotes as a String.
Ex:
In MS ACCESS
select * from emp where ename like "*aa*";
Other Databases
select * from emp where ename like '%aa%';
In my situation iam passing a Variable inside a like operator and '*' is used.
For the above Scenario, Please help me out.
If possible Kindly let me know the exact Syntax.
Please give me the answer as LINE1,LINE2,LINE3,LINE4,
I have verified in JDBC Spec also, it has been specified to use escape sequence.that too did not work.
Due to this, My project is in hold for about 4 days. I could not find a suitable solution.
Please help me out.I made a LIKE clause work with M$ Access, using PreparedStatement and the % wildcard:
escapeStr = "%";
String sql = "SELECT USERNAME, PASSWORD FROM USERS WHERE USERNAME LIKE ?";
PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(sql);
statement.setString(1, ("user" + escapeStr));
ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery();
while (resultSet.next())
System.out.println("username: " + resultSet.getObject("USERNAME") + " password: " + resultSet.getObject("PASSWORD"));
