Problem in using methods in Interface, CharacterData in org.w3c.dom

Hi,
I am trying to use two methods provided by CharacterData Interface. The getData() and getLength() methods. It is giving error when I use it like this
String dat3 = myNode.getData();
Is there anything wrong in the way I am using it? Can somebody please help me with this?
Please find below the code I am using.
One more question - I have the below statement in my code which is giving an error when there is no data in the XML node.
String dat = myNode.getFirstChild().getNodeValue();
Is there any way to bypass this?
Thankyou
NodeList myNodeList=myElement.getElementsByTagName("EVENT-EXPIRY-DATE");
for (int i = myNodeList.getLength(); i>0;i--)
Node myNode = myNodeList.item(i-1);
boolean delflag = false;
String dat3 = myNode.getData();
int len = myNode.getLength();
}

CharacterData, which is an extension of Node, is the interface that define the getData resposability. In your code you try to use that method in an instance of type Node which doesn't have it.

  • XDK 10.1.0.2.0 NT XMLType and org.w3c.dom.Document problem/bug?

    Hi Chaps,
    I have Oracle 11g1 server side and am using the Oracle XDK 10.1.0.2.0 for Windows client side with Sun Java JDK 6 (1.6.0_06-b02).
    (I couldnt find an XDK for 11g1???)
    I have a table in my database that has an XMLType, its a very simple table -
    CREATE TABLE hcr_xml_test
    RRN VARCHAR(24) PRIMARY KEY,
    ClipID VARCHAR2(27),
    Lodgement XMLType
    XMLTYPE COLUMN Lodgement
    STORE AS OBJECT RELATIONAL
    ELEMENT "/www.hcrregister.com/RequestServices/Messages/ConditionReportCreateRequest_1.xsd#ConditionReportCreateRequest_1"
    Thats all fine, however with the XDK I am trying to construct an XMLType for use with JDBC from a valid org.w3c.dom.Document so that I can insert a row into my table. My code looks like this -
    XMLType xml = new XMLType(realCon, doc);
    stmt = (OraclePreparedStatement) realCon.prepareStatement(sql);
    stmt.setString(1, id.getRRN());
    stmt.setString(2, id.getCenteraClipID());
    stmt.setObject(3, xml);
    stmt.execute();
    doc is a org.w3c.dom.Document
    realCon is a java.sql.Connection
    That code throws a SQLException at the line "stmt.setObject(3, xml);" -
    java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert to internal representation
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.SQLStateMapping.newSQLException(SQLStateMapping.java:70)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.newSQLException(DatabaseError.java:112)

    at uk.co.landmarkinfo.registers.datawarehouse.tools.oracle.lodgementloader.DocumentProcessor.run(DocumentProcessor.java:232)
    Inspecting the exception I can see that the vendorCode is 17059.
    If I use "XMLType xml = XMLType.createXML(realCon, doc);" then xml is null instead of throwing a SQLException, so something isnt working here...
    However, if I serialize my Document to a String first and give that String to either the XMLType Constructor or XMLType.createXML() then it all works fine -
    /////TEMP
    Transformer transformer = saxTransformerFactory.newTransformer();
    transformer.setOutputProperty("omit-xml-declaration", "no");
    transformer.setOutputProperty("indent", "yes");
    ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    transformer.transform(new DOMSource(doc), new StreamResult(baos));
    XMLType stringXML = new XMLType(realCon, new String(baos.toByteArray()));
    ////END TEMP
    stmt = (OraclePreparedStatement) realCon.prepareStatement(sql);
    stmt.setString(1, id.getRRN());
    stmt.setString(2, id.getCenteraClipID());
    stmt.setObject(3, stringXML);
    stmt.execute();
    But why do I need to serialize to a String first??? Looking at the javadoc I dont think I should have to do this. So is there a problem in Oracles XDB handling of Document or have I missed something?

    Anyone has any idea? Please help!!!

  • Problem of using "org.w3c.dom.Node" class

    I try to use removeChild(child) method of "org.w3c.dom.Node" object. it don't work.
    is it better to do child=null;

    child=null does nothing to the dom object
    removeChild works fine. You're just confused.
    You would need more info to have any chance of fixing the problem.

  • Problem casting org.w3c.dom.Document to oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument

    I have the following problem:
    I get my xml-documents as an XMLType from the database and want to compare these using the supplied Oracle class oracle.xml.differ.XMLDiff (i use the java version supplied with Oracle 9i r2).
    XMLType.getDOM() returns the xml-document as a org.w3c.dom.Document,
    what i need for oracle.xml.differ.XMLDiff is a oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument.
    How can i cast/convert between these two formats?
    thanks!
    p.s. cross-posting with Re: Casting/Converting XMLType to XMLDocument? (but i think this forum is more relevant).

    Hi,
    thanks for the suggestion: i have written the code shown below. It results in a casting error.
    As far as i know, i don't use a oracle.xdb.dom.XDBDocument, i only use a oracle.xdb.XMLType as the input parameter for my conversion-method:
    any new suggestions ???
    p.s. the second method which is commented does work, but is a bit verbose.
       private static oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument convert2XMLDocument(XMLType xml) {
         // simple version (should work according to tech. doc. 9i r2/ 10g r1 database)
         oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument doc = null;
         try {
            // n.b. probleem is dat XMLType.getDOM() een w3c.Document object teruggeeft ipv een oracle.XMLDocument.
            System.out.println("convert2XMLDocument(): casting w3c.Document naar oracle.XMLDocument.");
            doc = (oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument) xml.getDOM(); // public org.w3c.dom.Document getDOM()
            System.out.println("convert2XMLDocument(): done casting w3c.Document naar oracle.XMLDocument.");
         catch (Exception e) {
            e.printStackTrace(System.out);
        return doc;
       private static XMLDocument convert2XMLDocument(XMLType xml) {
         // complex version: works ok !!!
         XMLDocument doc = null;
         try{
            DOMParser parser  = new DOMParser();
            parser.setValidationMode(oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParser.NONVALIDATING);
            parser.setPreserveWhitespace (true);
            parser.parse(new StringReader(xml.getStringVal()));
            doc = parser.getDocument();
        catch ( XMLParseException e ) {
          e.printStackTrace(System.out);
        catch ( SQLException e ) {
          e.printStackTrace(System.out);
        catch ( Exception e ) {
          e.printStackTrace(System.out);
        return doc;

  • How to add node value using org.w3c.dom.Document?

    Hi ,
    I'm using org.w3c.dom.Document to deal with xml files. I could successfully add nodes , and their attributes. However I could not add a value of the node. (e.g. <myNode>I couldn't add this value</myNode>)
    does anyone know how to deal with this?
    I tried subNode.setNodeValue("the value i can't add"); whereas the subNode is an instance of org.w3c.dom.Node... i know this is interface i of course used the concrete class
    org.apache.crimson.tree.ElementNode
    but when I used the subNode.getNodeValue() i simply got null?
    can u plz help me?
    thanks in advance

    Reading the API documentation for the Node interface might help. At least you wouldn't be surprised when the results are exactly what the documentation says they will be.
    What would really help would be forgetting the idea that an Element can have a value. Text nodes have values, though, so create a Text node and make it the child of the Element node.

  • Extends collection using generic type of org.w3c.dom.Element

    Hi, all.
    I am trying to extending collection using PriorityBlockingQueue.
    Extended queue is generic type of org.w3c.dom.Element.
    public class MyQueue<Element> extends PriorityBlockingQueue<Element> {***/}
    Compiler misunderstand to type of Element (as like E ?, not org.w3c.dom.Element), then methods in the code "this.peek ()" will be error reported by type difference.
    At fact, I tried it into MyQueue<Node> extends PriorityBlockingQueue<Node>, it not causes any misunderstanding.
    Is there any hack to indicates that the type is org.w3c.dom.Element ? This mean, MyQueue<org.w3c.dom.Element> extends PriorityBlockingQueue<org.w3c.dom.Element>...
    Thanks.

    public class MyQueue extends PriorityBlockingQueue<org.w3c.dom.Element>

  • Problem in using the Unreferenced interface

    I let my RemoteObject to implement the Unreferenced interface to handle with the unexpectly abort client. but I have a question about how to use such interface in my remote object.
    My first thought about it is simple :
    class RemoteObject extends UnicastRemoteObject implements Unreferenced {
        public long lock(final int recno) {
            this.lockedRecNo = recno;
            this.lockCookie = LockManager.getInstance().lock(recno);
            return lockcookie;
        public void unreferenced() {
            this.unlock(this.lockedRecNo, this.lockCookie);
    }I think it is absolutely wrong under such scenario, since the unreference does not take effect immediately and we surely have only one RemoteObject, during this time. someother client may lock on other records, When performing the unreferenced, we may work on the incorrect record number and cookie.
    Then I improved it as
    class RemoteObject extends UnicastRemoteObject implements Unreferenced {
        private HashMap lockedRecord = new HashMap();
        public long lock(final int recno) {
            this.lockedRecNo = recno;
            this.lockCookie = LockManager.getInstance().lock(recno);
            lockedRecord.put(new Integer(recno), new Long(lockCookie))
            return lockcookie;
        public void unlock(final int recno, final int cookie) {
            LockManager.getInstance().unlock(recno, cookie);
            lockedRecord.remove(new Integer(recno));
        public void unreferenced() {
            //get all that haven't released lock from the HashMap
            //do a loop
            **loop** {
            this.unlock(this.lockedRecNo, this.lockCookie);
        }There are still some problems. maybe when we are executing the unreference, there is a client who are holding a lock and doing the update action, then we may wrongly release his lock.
    I can not figure out a good enough way to handle this. can any one help me on this. thx in advance.

    Hi.. Actually, it is not part of the[b] real world problem, I just want to provide a way to clean up the staleness record. If considering this. do you guys thing the approach 2 of the first posting is a way(maybe not a good way), except I should change the hashmap to hashtable to avoid the concurrent accessing... appreciate for any reply from u.

  • Problem in using method cl_crm_isu_order_change= set_date

    Hi All,
    As part of a development, I need to set a value for some records in table SCAPPTSEG with Appoint type   'CONTSTART',    'ISURQCONTSRT',    'ISUSUPSTART'.
    Currently for the same APPL_GUID, ISUSUPSTART is set to a particular date (say 01/30/2014) and 'CONTSTART',    'ISURQCONTSRT',   are set to another date (say 08/05/2014).
    So, I wrote the following code (for all the appointment types one by one ) :
        cl_crm_isu_order_change=>set_date(
                        EXPORTING
                          iv_guid        = iv_guid "'68B5999264261EE48AA1FED46FEBCA08'
                          iv_date        = iv_date " '20140130'
                          iv_appt_type   =  'CONTSTART'
                        EXCEPTIONS
                          error_occurred = 1
                          OTHERS         = 2
      IF sy-subrc <> 0.
      ENDIF.
    COMMIT WORK AND WAIT.
    But does code is not working. The dates remain the same. I have tried debugging this method but couldn't find what's problem.
    Could any please guide if I am doing something wrong here ?
    Do I need to call any other code before or after this?
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Hi Christian,
    Yes I am providing the Item Guid only. Giving any other GUID was resulting in dump.
    And I had checked while debugging, the method is not raising any exception. It's executing without problem but not updating the dates and that's what's frustrating.
    I am stuck on kinda big development due to not being able to update this date. If anyone could provide any guidance, I would be grateful.

    Hi Prabu,
    This is not the way you can print a DOM Document. You can do it using Transformer:
    String xml = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?><DATA>sample</DATA>"; // xml to convert
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document document = builder.parse(new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)));
    //Wong Way of printing a DOM Document. this equal to Object.toString(), Which is of no use for you.
    System.out.println(document); // It will just print: [#document: null]
    // Using Transformer to print DOM Document
    Transformer transformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
    Source source = new DOMSource(document);
    Result output = new StreamResult(System.out);
    transformer.transform(source, output); // This will print: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><DATA>sample</DATA>*Cheers,

  • Org.w3c.dom.traversal / Interface NodeIterator

    I'm now slowly working my way through the DOM parts of the JAXP API and I would like to use the NodeIterator to iterate through a nodelist. I've looked at the javadoc and it doesn't appear very helpful. Does anyone have any sample code that I can plagiarise!?!!?

    Document document;
    Node root=document.getDocumentElement();
    NodeIterator iter=
    ((DocumentTraversal)document).createNodeIterator(
    root, NodeFilter.SHOW_ELEMENT, null,true);
    while (Node n = iter.nextNode())
    String nodeName=n.getNodeName();
    String nodeValue=n.getNodeValue();
    }

  • Using the FilenameFilter interface to get the extension of a file

    Hello...
    I am trying to write a java program which is going to parse multiple xml documents and load them into the db. In a directory, there could be files other than xml files. Hence, i want to parse only files which have an .xml extension. I am using the FilenameFilter interface to get the extension of the files in a particular directory. However i am getting confused with the way it shd work...i am attaching herewith the code ...pl help me. I would appreciate if u could send me some sample code.

    In the above code, I am trying to list all those files which have the filter as .xml. I am unable to understand what code i need to write in the accept method of the FilenameFilter interface which accepts the directory name and the file name. There could be a directory which consists of multiple xml files too..this is where i am finding a problem
    Regards,
    Jayashree

    This sample code uses an inner anonymous FilenameFilter that takes all readable files with a ".xml" extension.
    File[] fileList = dir.listFiles (new FilenameFilter () {
        public boolean accept (File dir, String name) {
            if (!name.trim().endsWith (".xml"))
                return false;
            File f = new File (dir, name);
            if (!f.isFile())
                return false;
            if (!f.canRead())
                return false;
            return true;
    });Please post any question if you don't understand.
