Problem Inserting Flash Video (flv) File into Site

Hi -
I'm having problems inserting a Flash Video (.flv) into my webpage.  I'm using Dreamweaver 8.
I'm going to: Insert -  Media - Flash Video, browsing to the .flv file that's in my local site folder, entering the settings.
In Dreamweaver, there's a big gray box w/ flv icon in the middle.  But when I go to preview, the screen is empty, no video.
I'm creating the .flv file w/ Screen Mimic (a screen capture recording software).  This could be a problem w/ the Screen Mimic file because I have no problem inserting other flv files supplied to me by others.  This is the first video that I've made that I'm trying to insert.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would be most appreciative.
thanks!
Stacey Stanley

This could be a problem w/ the Screen Mimic file because I have no problem inserting other flv files supplied to me by others.
That would my guess too. Here are few other things to consider:
1)  Does your FLV filename contain any spaces or special characters?  If so, rename it without spaces as these can cause problems.
2)  Output Screen Mimic project to a QuickTime MOV file.  Then use Adobe Flash Encoder to convert the MOV to FLV.
3)  When you tested your page, was it a live page on remote server?  Did you upload the page and all supporting files to server (Scripts folder, SWF, FLV...)?

  • Problem Inserting Flash Video (.flv) File in Page Using Dreamweaver CS4's Insert Media Command

    I am using Dreamweaver CS4.
I am attempting to put a Flash Video (.flv) file on a standard HTML page in Dreamweaver.
When I either click the Insert Flash Video in the Common tab on the Dreamweaver toolbar, or if I choose Insert > Media > FLV to inert the video, I get the standard Dreamweaver FLV interface. I make my choices, click OK, and when the video is place on the page, I get the following dialog box:
"While executing inspectSelection in flvProgressive.htm, a JavaScript error occurred."
    with an OK button.
If I preview the page, all that loads are the various buttons of the skin that I have chosen and no video.
Anyone have an idea what is going on?

Are you sure you aren't working with a template driven page?
When you insert media files into DW, it must write code in the <head> tags to reference Scripts necessary for Flash media to work on the web.
If you're working with a page that was created from a Template, the DWT page must have editable regions in the <head> tags, or you won't be able to add media to your web pages.

  • Problem inserting Flash video into DW CS3 template

I would like to insert some flash video into an editable
region inside a DW CS3 template. The template I am using seems to
work for literally hundreds of other pages I have made (none of
which, incidentally, have any media of any kind in them).
I have created the template and then an editable region and
now want to insert the flash video in that editable region. All
goes well until I hit the OK button. then I get this error--Making
this change would require changing code that is locked by a
template or translator The change will be discarded.
Can anyone suggest how I might over come this error??
    Thx.
    Jane

The problem is the detection option in the video insertion
    dialog. If you
disable that option, you will not get the error.
This is a problem because the detection routine requires a
    modification to
the <body> tag (insertion of an onload event) which you
    cannot easily do in
    a template child page.
If you really must have the detection, then you can copy and
    past the load
call from a dummy (non-templated) page on which you have also
    done the same
insertion. Post back with that page's body tag code, and I'll
    show you
    how....

  • Problems inserting Flash video

I'm updating a colleague's site. In one of his pages he has a
Flash video embedded. The code he uses is
    <embed src="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" width="342"
    height="291" align="left"
    flashvars="&MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Halo_Skin_3&streamName=swf/AirMilesTVad_NEW&au toPlay=false&autoRewind=true"
    quality="high" scale="noscale" name="FLVPlayer" salign="LT"
    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" />
This works on his page in IE but not in Firefox.
I tried putting the code into my page, with the relevant
Flash file in a subfolder and it didn't work in any browser. It
just put up a blank space the size of the video. I abandoned that
and tried using the DW menu Insert > Media > Flash video. The
dialog box asked me to browse for the URL of the swf file. But
whenever I OK that, it comes up with 'the URL cannot contain spaces
or special characters. Please enter it again.' I've tried putting
it in the same folder as the page, and renaming it so there are no
underscores or uppercase letters, but it still comes up with the
    same message.
Both pages, the new and the old, link to
AC_runActiveContent.js; both pages are ASP files. I'm using DW
    8.0.2.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Give us a link to the page, please.

  • How to find encoding info of a Flash video (.flv) file?

Is it possible to find out the encoding information, such as
video and audio data rates, frame rate, codec used, etc, of a Flash
video clip? If so, how? What tool/software I need to do this?
I am able to find these (encoding) info for video clips if
they are in Window Media or Real Media file formats. But I am not
sure, whether there is way to find these info for Flash video clips
    as well.
For example, we chose Flash Video format for one of our Web
sites. Someone at work originally encoded a video clip for the site
at nearly 900kbps (total data rate: video + audio). I asked it to
be reduced to around 300kbps. Well, he resized the video and
encoded the same clip at a lower data rate, but doesn't remember
exactly what setting he used. Now, how do I find out the key
information about encoding for this clip (i.e. data rate, fps,
    etc)?

welcome to the mac side, im new also
in windows we would right click and select 'properties' right?
on apple you simply hold control 'ctrl' and then click on the folder you want, the control and click is macs equivanlent to windows' right click
after you've 'ctrl' and clicked, select 'get info', get used to this 'get info' function as you'll probably use it alot, like i said, its like selecting 'properties' on windows
another way of doing the control>click is clicking once on an item so that it is highlighted and then selecting 'file' at the top of your screen and then 'get info' too
to view all pics in a slideshow yo simply highlight each one, or you can select multiple items by holding down the command key (⌘) then single clicking each pic you want to view, this selects it and then double clicking any one of them when they are all highlighted, in mac you will use the 'preivew' application which is an image viewer, sort of the replacement for your old 'windows fax and image viewer' on windows
    hope that helps

  • Inserting a FLV file into CS5.5 project

    Hello,
If anybody is able to help me with my question I would be forever grateful.
    1. I use CS5.5 and I have published a captivate demonstration as a MP4 - then converted it to a FLV file using Adobe Media Encoder.
    2. I have then inserted the FLV file into another captivate CS5.5 project and published the file as a flash file.
Problem - The FLV file plays when previewing in web browser, and also plays on a public file location.  Problem occurs when I load the published file onto a web server I get a connection error when I get to the slide with the FLV file.
I am really stumped with this one.  Has anybody any ideas?
    Thanks
    ali

    Hi Rod,
Attached is a screen dump.  I can understand why when I publish the final flash version to a web server that it does not recognise the path of the FLV file as it is on my local drive.  However when I attempt to place the file name of the file sitting on the web server I get another error message (Refer to screen dump 2).  Obviously I am missing something
I am missing here.  Thanks ali

  • Inserting Flash Video causes display problems in Google Chrome

    Hi all,
I have tried in insert a Flash Video (.flv) into Dreamweaver using the Insert > Media > Flv command.
The video looks fine in both Firefox and Interent Explorer. The problem is Google Chome does not display the video at all. It shows a white background. As I right+click onto Google Chrome, it says About Flash Player which means it is already installed into the browser.
Does anybody know how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks!

  • Insert flash video problem

    Hi all,
I know this question has been asked before, but I've tried
all the solutions offered and none worked.
I am using the command "Insert -->Flash Video" to insert a
video on a web page (using DW8). Plays locally, but not after
upload. Scripts folder and both the skin and
FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf file are uploaded to the appropriate
places. I've tried on multiple computers and in multiple browsers
and can't figure why it won't work.
    Here it is on a
test page. Should play in box and flv file is only a little
    over 1MB.
Any suggestions would be very appreciated. I'm ready to pull
    my hair out.
    Thanks in advance.

Guessing here but, is there supposed to be a blabla .flv file
    on the server
    or in your code?

  • A problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash

    Hi.
There's a problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash.
If I import a layered PSD file, some part the color of the lower layer is shown at the edge of objects or shadows. Instead, if I crop each layers first and import them, there's no problem.
If the higher layer has brush or transparent effects, it becomes worse.
    Any help with this problem?
    Thanks.

How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.

  • Insert flash video? Won't play

Any tips on inserting Flash video into a project in Captivate 4?
I can get video to appear an play in Preview, but after publishing, the video doesn't appear and the slide forwards.
(Also, there seems to be a conssitent problme where preview is inaccurate.)

The videos are in the same folder as the project, and they appear in the published folder.
    Tried path 2 ways:
    myvideo.flv
    /myvideo.flv
    Neither made a difference.
There are 3 videos on this slide --- could that be a problem?

  • Problem loading flash video

My nephew set up my website for me and showed me how to load
video files three years ago. I am now trying to add some more but
the Insert > Media > flash route is uploading the files but
they're not appearing anywhere on the specified pages. The other
folders with flash video have files called
FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf and clearSkin_1.swf. What do these do and
how do I get them into the new folder I am creating for the new
    flv. files?

It would've been better if you posted a url. A first guessing
    it's that
you inserted with the wrong choice. It should've been
    insert>Media>Video
    Flash.
Anyway for more help post a url pls.

I'm wondering how I can put a .flv file into a web page. It
is not a .swf. I'm working with Dreamweaver MX 2004.

You need a Flash file to load the Flash Video file, they are

  • Flash Video (.flv) in Dreamweaver

I can't find anything here or on teh net that tells me how to
use a preloader with Flash Video inserted directly into DW. The
standard answer is to create a .swf file in flash and use the
    preloader there. Duh! No kidding?
Can anyone tell what the point is in having the capability of
inserting a .flv file directly into an html file if you can't
independently communicate to the user that he/she needs to wait for
the thing to load? We've had that ability to insert a flash file
for ages. Is this good only for VERY small .flv files that load
    almost instantly?

No the one that auto plays when the page loads? Just
    wondering?
    This one works just fine

I never seen the other link until you posed back sorry. That

more effective right under the one that's playing, Just a

  • Problems with Flash video playback

I'm having a problem with Flash video playback, hoping
    someone here can help.
I have several movies which I have converted to .flv using
the Flash authoring tool. I have then created an .swf for each
movie, embedding the .flv along with the playback component,
    playback controls, etc.
I can open these .swfs using Flash Player and everything
displays and plays as expected. However, when I embed the .swf into
a web page and open it using a browser, the playback controls don't
show up, and the movie will only play if it has been encoded to
autoplay. I am on an Intel Mac, using the latest Flash Player
plug-in, and am having this problem in both Firefox 2.0.0.11 and in
    Safari 2.0.4.
I'm guessing that the problem lies in how I have encoded the
.swfs into the web page? Hoping someone has a solution, or at least
    a good suggestion!
    thanks,
    - sounddevisor

Yes, that is exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Just to clarify for anyone else who stumbles across this -
the extra .swf files (which contain the skin for the player) need
to be in the same directory as the .html doc which is displaying
the video .swf. Hope that helps someone else!
