Problem open multiple pictures in Photoshop

I am working on a picture file, jpgs, changing the size, the level, etc.  I open 4 or 5 pictures, modifying each as I open it and then when I try to open  the next I receive an  error message that says:  Could not complete your request because of a program error.  This has just started to happen recently.  Previously I could work on a file of a hundred pictures and it didn't matter how many I had open, I still could open additional pictures.  I have downloaded and installed all upgrades as they became available.  What do I do next?

Have you tried Edit > Purge > All to make sure you're not using unneeded disk space?
Have you tried resetting preferences?
Reset Preferences

1) Close the program and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (not reversible)
or
2) Move the Folder. See:

Problem opening multiple pictures in Photoshop.  OldBob1957 has given me some suggestions on how to overcome this problem.  I tried to Edit.Purge>All, Reset Preferences, Delete the Adobe Photoshop x Prefs.psp folders and Ctrl+Alt+Shift on Photoshop startup.  Did not work, what next?  Delete all the PSP folders.?  There are 45 more in my computer.  Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Noel:
I reset the max memory to the high side as suggested but the results when I opened the pictures and changed them was the same.  I could open four but nto the fifth one.

PS:  In the event you haven't seen the start of the problem, I thought I would include it here:
I am working on a picture file, jpegs, changing the size, the level, etc. I open several pictures usually
3 or 4 and when I try to open the next I receive a pop up error message that says: "Could not
complete your request because of a program error.” This has just started to happen recently,
probably since I upgraded to CS6. Previously I could work on a file and have 100 or so pictures
open and still be able to open additional pictures. I have downloaded and in installed all available
updates and the message I receive when I check for updates is: “Your applications are up-to-date
as checked less than a minute ago.” I tried to Edit>Purge>All, Reset Preferences, Deleted the
Adobe Photoshop Ver. 6 Prefs.psp folder and pressed Ctrl+Alt+Shift on Photoshop startup and
deleted Adobe Photoshop Settings file. Did not work, what next? Delete all the PSP folders? There
are 45 more in my computer. Any help will be appreciated.

Update your graphics driver or turn off OpenCL/ OpenGL in the prefs. Pretty obviously you are running out of graphics card VRAM because your buffers fail to flush, which is a driver problem...

  • After opening a picture in Photoshop Elements 12 how can I copy the picture to a word processor docu

After opening a picture in Photoshop Elements 12, how can I copy this picture to a word processor document?

Open the photo. Press ctrl+A (command+A on a mac) to select it, then Ctrl+C (command+C) to copy it. Go to your word processing document and press Ctrl+V (command+V) to paste it in. (Note that for the last step the procedure may vary slightly depending on your word processor.)

  • When i open .jpg picture in photoshop on MAC the the background thumbnail in the layers panel looks like a white box with the brush inside instead of picture thumbnail. how to fix it?

when i open .jpg picture in photoshop on MAC the the background thumbnail in the layers panel looks like a white box with the brush inside instead of picture thumbnail. how to fix it?

Very easy. That means you have a "no layer thumbnails" option selected.
Go into the Layers Panel menu at the upper right of the Panel, choose Panel Options and you will see Thumbnail sizes to choose from.
    Select one, click OK.

  • Can you open multiple instances of Photoshop?

I'd like to separate jobs by opening multiple instances of photoshop so I can keep them apart for organizational purposes. I work on many projects at once, so this action would be useful to me. Any advice?

Unfortumately running multiple PS's won't work. Photoshop will simply
front the first copy of Photoshop if you try to start two copies.
You can run Elements and Photoshop at the same time, if that's of any use
    to you.

  • Problems opening multiple images as layers from Lightroom 4 to Photoshop CS6

I'm having trouble bringing multiple photos from Lightroom 4 into Photoshop CS6 as layers. In LR4, I select the multiple photos I want to bring in, right click and from the pop-up menu select "Edit In", then "Open as Layers In Photoshop...". Photoshop CS6 then opens but the photos do not load in. I then get an error in LR4 about a minute later that says "The files could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched." However Photoshop just opened before I got the error. How do I fix this?

Maybe a keyboard issue - shortcut key toggling multiple times. But, if you're sure your keyboard is fine, then try this:
Reset LR preferences:Windows 7/ Vista: The preference setting file is Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs, in C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\. Rename/ move this file to a different location. LR will recreate preferences during next launch. See if this fixes the issue. The reason we're renaming or moving it is so that if it doesn't fix the error, you can move it back there so you don't have to recreate your in-application preferences again
Reset Photoshop preferences: Follow instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
See if either or one of the above suggestions works.

  • Opening iphoto picture in photoshop

I have two macs. On my laptop I can select "Open in photoshop" in preferences and edit my photographs in Adobe. I used to be able to do that on my new imac intel, but lately, even though the preference is selected, photoshop opens but it doesn't open the picture. Help.

    jchanay1:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you recently do an Archive and Install on the iMac? That causes a folder to be removed that is needed by PS. A reinstall of Photoshop from the original disks will take care of that.
Check the Adobe Photoshop support site. They have it discussed there.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Missing photos when opening multiple files into Photoshop from LR3.2

When I try to open multiple files (8+ maybe) from Lightroom 3.2 to edit in Photoshop CS5, almost always one or two photos does not open. This means I have to manually find out which photos are missing, and then reopen them.
Can anyone help me with this problem??

I have opened as many as 50 from external hard drive with LR 3.2 and Windows XP with no problem.
It takes a long time to bring in this many if they are 100MB tiffs.  I had to go have coffee and come back later.
Are you sure you waited until it was finished?

  • How can I open multiple files as Photoshop Raw files at the same time for Photoshop CS6 extended on a PC?

I am trying to open 20-25 files at the same time as Photoshop Raw [*.RAW] files.
The only way I can open multiple files is if i leave the file type as All Formats. When I change it to  Photoshop Raw [*.RAW], the files a deselected.

Use bridge. Select all the files then press ctrl-r or cmd-r to load the selected files into camera raw.
If you try this in Photoshop use File>Open As then for file type choose camera raw. (I have not tested open as for opening multiple files)

  • Problems opening Raw files in Photoshop 7

    Hi there,
Just got Photoshop 7 a week ago and started working on my Raw files. But i am not able to open them up in Photoshop When trying to "open as" and select the raw file another window pops up asking me for headers and dimensions, etc..
All i get is a picture of some kind of grey texture??
    Cheers
    Christoph

This is a Lightroom forum. Do you have LR, because that will open virtually any RAW file.

  • Open multiple PDFs in Photoshop at specific size for use with Actions

I am having a bit of a roadblock with batch Automate in Photoshop. I'd like to open multiple PDFs at 630p x 630p, 72 dpi in greyscale. I have 2000 files to do this on. If files are already open, the rest of my action works, does a few things, then saves for web as PNG. It is just the open which is not working. It tries to give all files the same filename. Taking the filename out of the Action is not an option. Scan of msg boards say that this feature stopped working around CS3. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

Open opens images the same size and resolution they are saved. If you want the images to be a particular size you need to do that in the action.
If you download my crafting actions package.  You will find the there are over a dozen scripts I wrote to be used with in action.  One is a plugin script that would be particularly helpful to you to do the resize you want to do.  The first three steps would be Step 1 menu File>Automate>AspectRatioSelection....  You would set in a 1 to  1   Aspect ratio. Centered, rectangle. replace, selection and 0 feather. In its dialog.  Those settings will be recorded into the Actions step. Step 2 menu Image Crop. that will make you image square. Step 3 menu File>Automate>Fit Image...  In the Fit image dialog you would set 630 in the width and height fields.  These settings will be recorded into the actions step.    When the action is played no dialog will be displayed. The recorded settings will be used.

  • How can I open a picture in Photoshop from Photos?

I migrated my pictures from IPhoto to Photos. Why can't I open them in Photoshop? Please help. Can I just go back to using IPhoto?

Nope, It said "A newer version of this software is already installed." so I won't let me go back. Also, after exporting editing and importing back there is still no easy way to open a photo in photoshop. I have to drag them from stupid photos to my desktop and then open them from there. I have 300 photos to edit and put a watermark on. There HAS to be an easier way!
