Problem opening an Excel rowset in SQL/T-SQL

In SSMS ((SS 2008 R2) when I run:
SELECT * FROM
OPENROWSET (
'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
'Excel 12.0;Database=C:\test\xltest.xls;HDR=YES;IMEX=1',
'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]'
From this article:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/3ffcbe7c-cdce-43cd-97b1-ea480bbbfff9/openrowset-excel
I get error:
Msg 7403, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" has not been registered.
However, over in SSIS, the Excel Connection Manager connection string property (which works!) is:
Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source= C:\test\xltest.xls;Extended Properties="EXCEL 12.0 XML;HDR=NO";
Showing that Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 is registered on this machine.
What do I need to do in SQL/T-SQL to have the code work?

Those issues are a challenge to fix: search web, install, new error, search web, install, new error.....
I found it easier to use the SSIS Import/Export Wizard:
http://www.sqlusa.com/bestpractices/ssis-wizard/
It is a charm!

  • Problem opening exported Excel file

    Hi
We recently experienced a problem that has never occurred before. When trying to open an exported Excel file from a query with hierarchical structures (using the link <SAP_BW_URL DATA_PROVIDER="DP" CMD="EXPORT" FORMAT="XLS"> on the 0ANALYZER template), we are asked to log on to the BEx web, as if it's a Web application. If it is an Excel exported from a hierarchy-free query, then the file open directly without the logon prompt. According to the user, he used to be able to open downloaded hierarchy-expanded data without going through the logon process.
Has anyone experienced the same problem before? Can you share you solution to help us? Thank you in advance!

If I understand your issue correctly we used a different fix. Very easy to do.
First, what I believe is happening is that your icons for the hierarchy are being exported as a reference with absolute URL (images can not be exported). This means that when Excel opens the file it tries to resolve the URL and to do that it requires a login.
You can verify that absolute URLS are being exported by opening your excel export in a text processor (its actually XML). Look for URLS that start "http://.../MIME/BEx/Analyser/xxxx.gif". which are icons.
This took us quite a while to figure out because excel was not asking us to log in. It just timed out for each URL reference. Took forever.
The fix we used was to add the following entry to this table on your BW system... (LANG must be empty), Caption is optional:
    Table=RSZCONTROLTEXTS,
    Entry=
      Lang = "",
      TARGET_ID="ID_FLAG_XLS_ABS_URL",
CAPTION=”Force Excel Export to use relative URLs in XML output for icons”
You can experiment with results before you try by editing your XML file (the excel export from web) and removing from those icon URLS the "http:...." up to Mime. This makes it a relative URL. The down side is that it cannot find the icon and displays a box with an X in it. I believe there are techniques for importing icons into excel. They would look like this after surgery <img src="Mime/BEx/Analyzer/hieric2.gif">
If you implement the fix and don't like the effect just remove the entry from the table and all is back to before. I do not believe this is a transportable fix though.
We discovered it when we were pretesting a bunch of service pack upgrades. See SAP note #650887
    Hope this helps

  • Import an excel file into SQL Developer and create a table

    Hello everyone!
I have an Excel file I want to Import into SQL Developer. Do I need to Create a table first than import the file into the table?
Or is there a way to import an Excel file and it automatically generate or turn into a table?
I would really appreciate any directions or explanations.
    Thanks everyone!

SQLDeveloper TeamThanks for the reply but the problem was I needed to convert the file to a csv format. To do this open the file in Excel and re-save as CSV Comma Delimiter. Don't worry about data-types because when the file is uploaded to SQL Developer, you will have the chance to set all the parameters, data-types and so on.
Once I did this and try opening the file, the setup window opened and I was able to do all the additional tweaking and convert the data to a table.
Because of this I am speculating that SQL Developer does not work with Excel XLSX extension.
    Thanks again!

  • Problem while opening the excel files

    Hi
In my system , i have excel reports in my server disk . And i am opening the excel files through an action class like /viewReport.do?id=23 .....and thus from the action class i open my excel file .
After opening one excel file , i try to open another excel by clicking that link , then my system often hangs else excel shows an error saying "a report with name viewReport.do is already open " even though both of these files are different on the server
How can i avoid this ??
The reason why i am opening the excel file through an action class is , i need to perform some operations before opening that excel report
    i tried by setting the
    response.setHeader("Content-disposition","attachment; filename=myWorksheet.xls");
and i kept on changing the names but that doesnt work
Can any one let me know how to go abt this ??

    Hi Sir,
I found you posted the issue in the
APS.NET forum, and you seems use some code to open the file. Have you tried the last link in the thread?
Then, let's do some test to narrow down the issue.
I notice that you are using Office 2010, does the issue occur only with 'Reachlocal.xlsx' or every existed file?
If every Excel file has the issue, please try the following methods:
    Open the file in
    safe mode.
    Repair Office 2010.
On the other hand, this problem might be caused by malware on the affected machine. There are now two known variants of malware which causes this problem: Win32/Crilock.A and
Win32/Buma!rts. They have both been identified as a new family of
    ransomware.

If you have any further assistance about code/program, I recommend you post the question to MSDN forum:

my Numbers file sent to somebody. He is not able to open in Excel can anybody help to solve this problem?

Numbers files are not compatible with MS Excel.  To share a Numbers file with Excel you need to export you Numbers file in MS Excel format.  To do this:
    1) Open you Numbers document
    2) select the menu item "File > Export..."
    3) select "Excel" for the target output
    4) click next and select where to save the file.
    5) email the file you saved

    Hi,
Please follow below steps to remove Excel Add-in from Excel 2007: -
1- Open Excel 2007 and click on icon placed at top left corner and select option 'Excel Options'.
3- Now select option 'Add-In' from left window menu and then click on button 'Go' appears on the bottom of right window. It will open a new window.
4- Please de-select option 'Hyperion Essbase OLAP server DLL' in new window.

  • Problem opening excel application, it opens all the workbooks at the at once!

Why everytime I open or start excel application, it opens and open many excel books at the same time! Is this an excel configuration problem? How can I just open excel and start a new excel book, without opening the rest of saved excelbooks?

Thanks LousyFool. With the help of an Apple store expert finally resolved the problem by eliminating the excel hidden folder. It happens that the excel folder resides in the library folder, and after he deleted it and open excel app it then creates a brand new empty folder. By eliminating the old excel folder the excel files that were opened automatically it fixed the problem!
    Thank for your help

Regarding your suggestion to try the free LibreOffice, at the moment I don't need this, because I have downloaded a one-month trial Japanese Microsoft Office 2011 and can open my current files with that, although I do not want to revise any of my files until either this problem is solved, or I purchase a new MS Office.
Unfortunately there is not many MS Office software in English available here in Japan.  I spoke to Microsoft Japan and even though they sell software, they do not sell any English verions of MS Office.  Incredible, considering that the company itself is located in the US.  They suggested I buy it from Amazon Japan, however Amazon do not have any available at this time and do not know if they will in the future.
Anyway, I have found a company which sells the downloaded English version (no disk).  The software is Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student 2011.  I have not purchased it yet.  It would take too long and the postage charges would be too high to purchase it from the US.
Hoping you have some good ideas.
    Best regards,
    Susan

  • Problem with opening an excel spreadsheet

    Hello,
I need to open an excel sheet when the user clicks on a link.
When I run the code I get SAVE/ DOWNLOAD dialog box.
Is it possible to get around the SAVE/DOWNLOAD dialog and open the excel sheet directly.
In other words, is it possible to download the excel sheet to a temp directory and open it from there.
    Please help,
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I am able to open the excel sheet successfully from the web application but what is happening is that when it opens it sets the title of the excel sheet as the URL from where it was downloaded.
The problem with this is that the macros within the excel sheet are not working.
If i save the excel sheet and give it a name, the macros are working.
So, obviously it is something to do with the title.
Is it possible for me to pass the filename along with the code to open the excel sheet.
Thanks for your help so far.

  • Problems opening documents (zip files, excel) after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I have not been able to open a lot of files. Mainly, zip files and excel documents (which I had no problem opening before the upgrade. It seems that when I save the files down (from my email or whatever) the files go into the "Archive Utility" program, I try to open them from the Finder but they still won't open (or unzip).
When I go to open an excel document (most likely from a PC user), I get a msg that the file isn't formated for excel. However, before the upgrade to Snow Leopard I had no issue opening this same file in Mac Office-Excel.
Thanks in advance for your help/advise.
    -Katherine

    Hello Katherine:
I have not experienced those problems, but I do not receive Excel spreadsheets via E-mail. My Stuffit Expander version is 13.0.2.
You might want to check your Excel preferences to see if there is a setting that needs to be changed (compatibility?). I use Office 2004 so your version may be different.
You could also trash preference files to see if something happened during the install.

  • Problem while opening an excel file

    Hi
I am trying to open an excel file by clicking a link where it goes to action class and then sets the content type to excel and I am opning it from therebut the strange thing is that a file download opens with open/save/cancel but in the same window but it is showing a warning in the dailog box(windows warning which comes as an exclamatory mark) saying "This type of file could harm your computer if it conatins malicious code" and on cliking open it shows a dialog saying "Could not open http://localhost:8080/context/myaction.do?fileName=3.xls" .Dont know why its trying to opne my action url rather than it should look for 3.xls in my folder
Any clue on this would be helpful

    Hi,
Try saving the file and then check if extension is xls. If you are not able to do anything (open, save), try to call the same application (file), from other machine, as sometimes browser gives the problem.
If still problem occurs, then copy paste the code for setting the content type here.
    Best of luck,

  • Problem opening excel files due to Hyperion Essbase Addin

When trying to open an Excel file as an attachment from Outlook (with Excel closed), Excel opens and tries to open the file. However, the file never opens. If Excel is already open and I try to open the file from Outlook, it works fine.I initially thought it was an option in Excel that needed to be changed. However the problem only started after I installed Hyperion Essbase. So I uninstalled Hyperion, and I no longer had the problem. Does anyone know why Hyperion Essbase is causing this problem?

    Hi,You can also turn the add-in off from Tools | add-in menu.Hope this helps,Grofaty

  • Problem opening BEx Analyzer Workbook (saved in Excel 2007) in Excel 2003!!

    Dear all:
I know there are threads about this issue and numerous support tickets have been provided, but we still can't get any Excel 2007 Query to be opened by Excel 2003.
I have tried to save Excel 2007 BEx Analyzer Query into 97-2003 XLS format. But when we reopened (by both Excel 03 and 07), it prompted the warning messages and broke down the query workbook into several sheets with scrambled data. What am I missing here...? According to the support ticket, it seemed pretty straightforward just by saving the format to 2003 XLS, but in reality it just doesn't work as "advertised"
    Thank you...!!!
    Brian

I have the solution for this.
    It works to my environment.
    Follow the steps :
    1. you must open the xlsx workbook from Bex Analyzer.
    2. Save As workbook locally to your PC for excel 97-2003
(Not "save as" from bex Toolbar but from      excel)
    3. Now save that workbook with Save As->Workbook from Bex Toolbar into your BI database.
Now go to detail properties of your workbook and there you can see the format xls for your workbook.
    Good Luck

  • Export to Excel Error in SQL Server 2014 Report Builder/Viewer

    Hi,
I am using the 2014 version of ReportViewer in a WinForm to display an RDL report.
The report was originally created in Report Builder 2.0 (SQL 2008 R2), but has since been edited in Report Builder 3.0 (SQL 2014).
The report loads and displays OK, and even exports to Word and PDF. But when exporting to Excel and then opening the Excel document, the following error occurs:
"We found a problem with some content in <filename>. Do you want us to try and recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes."
If you click Yes, then a second message appears:
    "Removed Part: /xl/styles.xml part.  (Styles)
Repaired Records: Cell information from /xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml part"
The Excel document then opens, and the data is there, but there is no formatting (no border columns, colours, bolds etc.)
    The three interesting things are:
    - When exported from SQL 2008 R2 Report Builder 3.0, which exports to .xsl instead of .xslx, it works
    - A brand new report created in 2014 Report Builder 3.0 exports to .xslx great
    - In Report Builder 2014, I stripped everything back and removed all rows and columns so the original table in the report only has one empty row and column it the export still errors - it is only by removing the original table and creating a brand new table
    that export works OK
It appears to be a problem with the tablix, but ideally we don't want to have to recreate our reports from scratch to fix this issue.
Has anyone come across an issue like this before, and know of any potential resolutions to it?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Based on your description, you render a report originally created in Report Builder 2.0 (SQL 2008 R2) and export the report to excel with format of Excel 2007-2010.
Edit the report in Report Builder will not upgrader the report. In that case the report still with SSRS 2008 R2 RDL schema. Please try to upgrade the report by open the report in Report Designer in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) and then try again.
If you don’t want to upgrade the report, please try to export the report
with Excel 2003 rendering extension and check if the issue persists.
The SQL Server 2014 and SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services Excel rendering extension renders a report to the native format of Microsoft Excel 2007-2010 with .xlsx as file extension. Only the Excel rendering extension is available by default.
You must update the Reporting Services configuration files to make the Excel 2003 rendering extension available.
For example, changing the value of Visible to
true in the following line in the RSReportServer.config:
    <Extension Name="EXCEL" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ExcelRenderer.ExcelRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ExcelRendering"
    Visible="true"/>
