Problem running reports to network printer

Application Server Enterprise Edition 10g (9.0.4.1)
Customer is having some difficulty printing reports to printers attached to client PCs and shared on the network. Occasionally, when a report is requested by the application with DESTYPE=PRINTER, DESFORMAT=DFLT and DESNAME=\\<PC>\<server share>, the status of the report remains "Opening report" and it never completes and cannot be removed. The report server (and dependent services) must be restarted to free the engine. The report is requested from a Forms application via a Report object.
Here's detail from the Report Server engine trace file (traceOpts=trace_all):
Debug 50103 (EngineImpl:setCommandLine): Running
Info 50132 (EngineImpl:setCommandLine): Get command line: userid="ELSIEM paramform="NO" jobname="flysheet.rep" p_cov_effdt="20030315" desname="\\oldmelishal155\wc_hp4" p_rcvd_dt="" p_carrid="24724" p_ar_amt="" authid="ANONYMOUS" destype="printer" p_type="POL" batch="YES" p_ar_code="" report="flysheet.rep" background="yes" expiredays="0" desformat="DFLT" p_polnbr="08WC001094"

The last line appears to be the culprit. It seems as if the engine is attempting to communicate with the printer but failing. While this report was still "active" another request was made about 3 hours later that printed without issue.
The printer's host OS is XP. The printer is a HP LaserJet 5si with up-to-date drivers (PCL 5e).
Are there any specific issues with HP printers? Any ideas how to proceed with this problem? I've search high and low on Metalink and have not seen anything like this. I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Robert Glossip

Oh yes, I can see at "Print Settings" that I can specify a printer ("Set layout to: Specify printer settings"). However, I can't specify a printer in the "Destination" settings. So I can't do a scheduling, after my opinion?

  • HP Laserjet P1102w problem running HTML Config from Printer Utility

    I have recently changed broadband providers and was trying to move my HP P1102w printer to the new router so while I was at it I thought I'd check for Software & Firmware updates - there were new ones so I updated both with the printer connected via USB to my Apple iMAC running 10.6.8 and now I can't run the HTML Config  via the Printer Utility screens - instead of the normal window you would get I I just get a screen full of the code it's tryingto run e.g. below
    I've tried going back to the original software provided with my original installed CD, but no luck - anyone experienced the same and any ideas how I can resolve this?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi @cartian ,
    I see that you need to setup the printer on a new network. I can help you with this.
    Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. Sometimes the Embedded Web Server won't open in other browsers.
    Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.
    Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
    Print out a configuration report and make sure the old SSID and IP address are cleared.
    (hold down the x button and when the printer makes a noise let go)
    Connect the USB cable from the printer to the Mac and install the printer software.
    (if this is already done then skip this step)
    Go to the Apple, system preferences, print and fax.
    Double click on the P1102w.
    Open the utility.
    Click printer setup.
    Click HTML config.
    This should open the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
    Click the Networking tab.
    Click Wireless from the list on the left.
    Under Communication Mode , click Infrastructure.
    Select your network SSID from the Available Network Names (SSID) list and then click the << button so the network name moves over to other box.
    From the Security Mode pop-up menu under Authentication , click WEP, WPA/WPA2 or open . Your selection depends on which Wireless Security Protocol your network uses.
    Make sure you select either hexadecimal or alpha depending on your password. (very important)
    Apply the settings.
    In the confirmation box (changes have been saved), click OK.
    You should get a solid blue light on the printer shortly.
    Then all we have to do is delete the USB driver and add the network driver.
    Click on the Apple.
    Click system preferences.
    Click the print and fax icon.
    Highlight the printer and click on the - sign to delete the printer. (USB driver)
    Disconnect the USB cable.
    Then click the + sign and select the printer from the list and click add. (p1102w bonjour)
    Test the printer.
    If you have any issues with the HTML config opening then do the following steps:
    Close any applications.
    On the Apple menu bar, click Go, computer, MAC harddrive, Library, Printers, HP, LaserJet, click on folder for your printer, click on EWS browser or HTML config, click the Networking tab, click wireless on the left and fill out your information. (make sure infrastructure is selected) Apply settings.
    Then delete the USB driver and add the network printer.
    If there is anything else that I can help you with just let me know.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Thank You.

  • Gnome 3 reports a network printer as "not connected",but prints fine

    Hi,
    I got the same problem mentioned here as "Other issue": https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119248
    When I print on my network printer it always says "printer is not connected" at first (popup in gnome shell) but then it prints fine.
    I think it has something to do with CUPS or some settings of the network card (inside the Kyocera FS-1020D) -> I have disabled the whole apple things like Bonjour etcpp.
    In the mentioned thread there are several perople reporting this issue - did anyone solve it?

    bones wrote:No such warning when I logged into other desktop environments.
    That's intresting .. maybe it is a gnome bug? I am also using Gnome 3.2.

  • Problem running reports

    I finally configured and was able to start the reports server on my Solaris box. The listener is running. When I run a report, either by command line using rwrun60 or from a form using RUN_REPORT_PRODUCT, the report kicks off without error but will not finish. I have to kill the process, and no output results. I had no problems when running from NT, so I'd bet the problem is in the configuration not the report itself. Any ideas?

    I'm still working this problem.
    I have a printer configured, and have no problem generating report in character mode and send directly to printer.
    I did have to add localhost access to Xwindows with
    $ xhost +localhost
    Now I have valid display value.
    Unfortunately, still having the same problem. rwrun60 kicks off, but gets hung. I have no problems running forms on the this server. Any other ideas?

  • Urgent..blank report on network printer

    Dear All,
    i've a report which print direct to a network printer i specify the full network path in DESNAME where destype = printer but the paper in the printer move but nothing is printed.
    when i let destype=screen and specify the network printer from normal dialog it prints fine..
    more question how can i know that the report server has access to that printer
    i'm using REPORTS 6i
    please help

    If it was that urgent I would have supplied some more information. One very, very, very important fact to know is whether it's Client/Server or Webbased reports, don't you think?
    Have you been on the Reports Home page yet?
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports
    There're tons of good white papers there, including one regarding printing on the net.
    Also this search on Metalink gives me lots of usuful documents: reports 'network printer'

  • Urgent: problem running reports in Oracle 10g application server

    Hi all,
    our problem is that we deployed a jsp report as Ear file in Oracle 10g application server in infrastructure node.deployment says successfull.when we try to run that report it says 401 unauthorised.while sending request we are passing the database username,password &sid is this correct or any configuration setting to be done to make it run.
    one morething normal jsp works fine.when we run reports jsp it gives the above mentioned 401 error.

    hello,
    when you deploy reports JSPs they still require the reports specific componentes (e.g. TLD file, classes, ...) etc be available. i doubt that's the case in your ear file.

  • Run reports direct to printer

    Hello all:
    In developer 6i i created a form with two buttons , one to run reports on the screen (P_RunReport('report_name','SCREEN'); )the other is to run reports directly to the printer (P_RunReport('report_name','printer');),
    Now when i convert this form in developer 10g both buttons run reports on the screen,So how can i direct reports to printer within the same form?.
    Thanks alot.

    I believe you'll be using Set_report_object somewhere in your code.
    Shall you check exactly which value is going into that?
    If you are sure that the value is going in is "SCREEN' or 'PRINTER', could you debug into the reports trace file?
    That might help you.
    Warm Regards,
    Raja.

  • Problem running report with BI Publisher and Web Service

    Hello,
    I actually try to run a Bi Publisher report via the Web Service.
    I use the following documents:
    - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10416/bip_webservice_101331.htm
    - "How to integrate Oracle BI Publisher via Web Services in Oracke Forms"
    Everything works fine. But when I try to copy it on local computer the file is 0 length. I use the "getReportBytes" method.
    Here is the code I tried with:
    String userName = “Administrator”;
    String passWord = “Administrator”;
    System.out.println(”calling ” + myPort.getEndpoint());
    System.out.println(myPort.validateLogin(userName,passWord));
    ReportRequest repReq = new ReportRequest();
    ReportResponse repRes = new ReportResponse();
    repReq.setAttributeFormat(”pdf”);
    repReq.setAttributeLocale(”en-US”);
    repReq.setAttributeTemplate(”World Sales”);
    repReq.setReportAbsolutePath(”/Sales Manager/World Sales/World Sales.xdo”);
    repRes = myPort.runReport(repReq,userName,passWord);
    System.out.println(repRes.getReportContentType());
    byte[] binaryBytes = repRes.getReportBytes();
    OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(”D:
    out.pdf”);
    out.write(binaryBytes);
    out.close();
    System.out.println(”Success for Run Report”);
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I assume that you use 10.1.3.4. If not, my hint is not relevant for you ....
    There's a new parameter in the web service API to set the Chunk-Size. Unfortunaltely is the default value not so, that the behaviour is like in older releases (no chunk-size ... the whole document at once). If you set the chunk size to -1, you should get your document. So try to add
    repRequest.setSizeOfDataChunkDownload(-1);
    regards

  • Problem running reports using webutil in Forms 10g

    This is about 3 dll files related to webutil functionality in forms 10g
    d2kwut60.dll
    jacob.dll
    JNIsharedstubs.dll
    I am running report which is using webutil functionality. So when I try to run report, our application server try to download above dlls to my local machine on path C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin
    Due to security policy, our company doesn't allow write access to folder C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin and hence report is failing to run.
    We need solution for this issue so that we should be able to run report successfully?
    Details as below:
    Application server : Forms 10g - 10.1.2.3 ( Using Sun jre and not jinitiator). We do not want to use jinitiator
    Browser - IE8

    Curious, typically Java will store these "temporary" files in the cache not in the BIN directory. Unfortunately, the only way I know to change the location of the CACHE (temporary files) directory is through the Java Control Panel applet. Open the Control Panel and start the Java Control Panel. On the General tab click the Settings... button in the Temporary Internet Files section. In the Location section - click the Change button which will bring up a "Temporary Files Location" dialog box. Simply navigate to a directory that your security policy will allow files to be written too.
    The ideal solution would be to push this type of change out to all of your users rather than have to manually change each workstation. I don't know if there is a way to push this change out, but you can check the Java website for more information.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • Problem running reports with graphics in 11i

    Hi,
    I have developed some custom reports (using
    Reports 6i) with graphics charts embedded within them. I would like to display the output from within Oracle Applications 11i.
    There seem to be two approaches:
    1. Invoke the report from Oracle Self-Service using OracleOasis.runReport
    2. Register the report as a concurrent request (with HTML/PDF output) and run it using the concurrent manager
    Approach 1 requires the reports server cgi which I start using adrepctl.sh. Approach 2 requires the concurrent manager which I start using adcmctl.sh.
    The problems start to occur depending on how and from where I start these scripts. The exact problem occurs in both cases.
    If these scripts are started:
    1. From a regular telnet window from a windows NT box
    The reports error out with a REP-3000 internal toolkit error
    2. From an Exceed xterm session and I keep the Exceed session alive (I tried both TrueColors and PseudoColors settings)
    The reports work but there are problems with the output - pie colors do not appear (everything is white, for e.g.), etc.
    3. From the Sun Solaris console
    The reports work fine.
    The problem is that method 3 is not very convenient since every time I bring down the concurrent manager or reports cgi server, I need to walk to a different building (where the Sun boxes are) to start it.
    Method 2 above isn't particularly great either (even assuming I can get it to work) since I need to have an exceed session running all the time.
    Can some one offer suggestions to solve the problem I'm having? Even clues on why method 2 above is not working as expected would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    - NR

    Problem solved! As long as the xhost + is set on the host machine and some one is logged in, it appears that one can simply set the DISPLAY environment variable to point to the host (even from a simple telnet window) and start the reports server or concurrent manager. Looks like you also have to have REPORTS60_NO_DUMMY_PRINTER set to "YES".

  • Problem running report in web layout

    Hi
    I have a problem of running my report in web layout.
    If i run the report in web layout it does not show the changes that i made to it , the colors and text sizes and styles, if I used no templates and changed the report manually it will just show the report as before it was modified.
    But when I run it in paper layout every works fine.
    Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

    Also I tested with the sample Report Test.rdf (Comes along with installation).
    Even that runs well in Paper Layout and report hangs when run in Web Lay out.
    Please help me with your valuable inputs on this regard.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Problem running report

    Here is the error we are getting after trying to run a newly created Oracle Report on DEV Portal. All of the old reports are still working, but any report added new doesn’t work, and all with the same error:
    SQL-6502: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL.WWV_RW_USR", line 444
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL.WWV_RW_USR", line 923
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    This error is sort of generic, and in most cases means something is wrong with the Oracle Report or the way it was added to Portal, but in this case it means something else because if we follow all of the same steps on PROD it works fine.

    I have the same error...
    Did you find any solution?........Please let me know..
