Problem using external database link.

Help:
Here is th problem I am having. I have a workflow that reads and writes to external datasource using HS services. The workflow reads and then writes to the HS datasource in a function. After the function completes it needs to close the database link. You cannot close the database link until the commit happens, which you cannot do in a function or you get an error. This is a catch 22. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi,
You could invoke your function as an autonomous transaction, and do a commit there. Not sure if that helps you close the database link or not.
Alternatively, you could package the data to be transferred into a message on an AQ and propagate that data across the database link to the workflow system, and process it asynchronously.

Variable database name in SQL Server query using Oracle database link

I have an ApEx 4.1 app running on 11g x64 (11.2.0.1) on Windows Server 2008 x64, and I have some data integration points with a SQL Server (2005 and 2008) that I need to establish. I have configured the database link with dg4odbc and it works beautifully... I can execute queries against the SQL Server database without any problems using the database link.
However, there is a scenario where the SQL Server database name is dynamic, and I need to generate it on the fly in a PL/SQL block, and then use that in a dynamic SQL query (all of this in ApEx). This is where I run into problems... when I am querying the default database based on the ODBC connection and I don't have to specify the database name, there is no issue. But when I need to access one of several other non-default databases, I keep receiving the "invalid table" error.
This runs fine:* (note that "fv" is the name of my database link)
v_query1 := 'select "ReleaseDate" from dbo.Schedules@fv where dbo.Schedules."SchedID" = :schedule';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_query1 into rel_date using schedule;
I then take that rel_date variable, convert to a varchar2 (rel_date_char), and then use it as the database name in the next query...
This returns an error_ (Error ORA-00903: invalid table name)

Creating a new folder using a Database Link

I'm trying to create a new folder from another database with Discoverer Administrator. The schema that I'm using is the same on each database but when I select the other database using the database link, Discoverer Administrator will get all the user accounts on the other database but if that user exists on the default database I will only see the objects owned for that user on the default database. If I select a user that is only on the remote database I will see the objects from the remote database. Is this a Bug? I was able to do this using Disco Admin 9.0.4 and EUL 5.02 on an Oracle 8i database. I just migrated my EUL to an Oracle 10g database using EUL 5.1.1 and Disco Admin 10.1.2.

1. Choose Folder Properties (right-click on Folder)
2. Change database from <default database> to <DBLINK>

Authenticating Guest Users Using External Database.

Folks, greetings.
Due to the limitations imposed by wlc's database size, we decided to go for an external authentication server.
Since this external database is for guest access, we are considering in using a Linux box with LDAP, along with a web-based application which will be presented to the user for authentication purposes. This way, the user would type in his/her credentials on this portal and the same box would process the authentication.
In such a scenario, we would buid an application for the "Lobby Amabassadors" input the guest data (for auditing purposes we need to enter the user's SSN, passport # or any other official ID), and this application would generate the password to be used during the authentication process.
I've used web-auth before, with the users database loaded on the WLC (local net users). Even using an external web-auth portal, the user is still authenticated by the controller that in turn, will control whether the traffic is to be allowed or not, based on the authentication results.
That's exactly where our question lies: how should we configure the WLAN so that the WLC would receive the access request and forward it to the authentication portal/server? Would it envolve radius?
This same Linux would be the DHCP server for this guest WLAN.

ORA-01017 error while using a database link

Hi all,
I have a TNS entry as below
HOME=
(DESCRIPTION=

(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=HOME))
I have created a database link as
create public database link link92.com using 'HOME'.
This was created successfully and an entry was made in all_db_links table.
However if i try connecting to a table in the remote database...for example
select * from emp@link92;
I am receiving an error ORA-01017(Invalid username passwd).
Would appreciate if somebody could help me out.

It is not that the Database Link is "PUBLIC" that makes it use the current username/password.
It is that the Database Link has been created without specifying a " CONNECT TO username IDENTIFIED BY password " that makes the DBLink behave as a "current user database link" using the current username/password to connect to the remote database.
You can have a PUBLIC database link that uses a "CONNECT TO username IDENTIFIED BY password" such that all connections use the same remote username and password.
You can also have "private" (ie not PUBLIC) database link that does not specify a "CONNECT TO username IDENTIFIED BY password" which becomes a "current user [owner] database link".

Creating the materialized view using the database link

I am using the Oracle 11g release version.
Following is my question,
I had created the Database link to get the data from remote DB table.
Using that DB link, i can access the required table using SELECT statment.
When i tried to create the materialized using that DB link.
I am getting the error SQL Error: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
Can anyone please find the root cause and provide the solution for this?

Problem using external jars in my java component

Hi Guys,
I just wanted to ask how to properly reference an external jar to a java dc. I already have an external library dc which contains my external jars and also compilation and assembly public parts, a j2ee library which has the assembly public part of the external jars that is deployed to the server, a java dc which has the compilation public part of the external jar.
My problem is whenever I trigger a method of the java dc in my webdynpro dc I'm having an exception. weird thing is when I put the whole method from the java dc to the webdnypro dc it functions well. So I'm thinking if the interaction between my java dc and j2ee lib dc has to do with this maybe I'm missing some configuration.
need your insight on this one.

No cache while using external database authenication

i was successful in setting up the external database authentication and apply filters to groups
while i am creating reports in answers, i.e. querying data from database...those queries are not logged in the cache.
how do i see this solve this...............
while using RPD authentication system, i know that queries are stored cached in NQQUERY FILE.

Jar File Problem Using External Packages

I am having problems creating an Executable jar file that imports classes from my own package.
I can create an exe jar no problem without using any external packages, but when I use an external package the jar will not execute.
I am using WindowsXP, my package is in,
C:/MyClasses/Database
the class files are stored loose, not in a jar file
I have tried altering the class-path in the manifest file, but to no joy - I may have not changed the classpath correctly!

This is a mine field of "correct programming style."
External jars, if very general, could be placed in the directory jre/lib/ext.
In some cases you can unzip the external jars and add them to your own jar.
The manifest.mf migth be looked into, and of course you need to communicate your patching!
As you remarked, it might be a problem of class path usage.
For that the jar tool documentation might explain it better than I.

Problem using secondary database, sequence (and custom tuple binding)

I think I understand what is going on, and I only noticed it now because I added more fields to my custom data (and tuple binding):
com.sleepycat.je.Sequence.java line 139 (version 3.2.44) does this:
status = cursor.putNoOverwrite(key, makeData());
makeData creates a byte array of size MAX_DATA_SIZE (50 bytes) -- which has nothing to do with my custom data.
The trigger causes an call to SecondaryDatable.updateSecondary(...) to the secondary DB.
updateSecondary calls createSecondaryKey in my SecondaryKeyCreator, which calls entityToObject() in my tuple-binding, which calls TupleInput.readString(), etc to match my custom data. Since what is being read goes for more than the byte array of size 50, I get the exception.
I didn't notice before because my custom tuple binding used to read fewer that 50 bytes.
I think the problem is that my tuple binding is being invoked at all at this point -- opening a sequence -- since there is no data on which it can act.

It looks like you're making a common mistake with sequences which is to store the sequence itself in a database that is also used for application data. The sequence should normally be stored in separate database to prevent configuration conflicts and actual data conflicts between the sequence record and the application records.
I suggest that you create another database whose only purpose is to hold the sequence record. This database will contain only a single record -- the sequence. If you have more than one sequence, storing all sequences in the same database makes sense and is safe.
The database used for storing sequences should not normally have any associated secondary databases and should not be configured for duplicates.

Huge problems using external iSight or DV video camera on my MPB DCD...

Ok, so I am developing some applications that make use of a video camera for motion tracking, and I have run into a huge problem when trying to use any external video camera. I have both an external iSight in great working order (I have tested it on my tower, which is also brand new, but on 10.4 for reasons of other applications not yet supported on 10.5.1) and also a Sony DCR-TRV520 NTSC Digital Handycam. (Once again, works perfectly when plugged in to the tower.) But if I plug either of them in to my MBP, no programs recognize their existence at all, be it iChat, iMovie, or my application. Nothing shows up in system profiler either. I try reboots, I get nothing... the internal iSight constantly takes over or is my only choice in applications.
And before you even ask, yes, my firewire port works, as I can plug my external firewire solo audio interface into it no problems, and no, I don't have any other firewire devices plugged in when trying to get the computer to recognize they are there.
Quick response would be awesome, as I am on a timeline to finish the program development and it is very important that I get this to work, preferably the Sony.

Hi mates, I have the following problem ..
I have JS functions in an external file and I'm trying to use the following adaptive tag in a JSP.

Is there any way to do this , without using inline JavaScript?

I am not sure about v 5.* (there is no options like this for v 5.*), but in G6 you can check special option (see Advanced Settings screen for Web Service) that allow parse external JS files on the fly (I have never tried by myself but I saw this option in G6).

Problem using external editor in iPhoto

Using Adobe photoshop CS5 the returned image to Iphoto can not be edited with the Iphoto editor. When the image is exported only an elarged section is exported

What image format is the file? I may be preaching to the choir but maybe some of this will be of interest to you?
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Give this a try: Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos, edit with CS5 and and check to see if the same problem persists.
