Problem using variables

Hi,
I'm having problems using different variables in captivate 4.
I'm developing a courseware in Hebrew and I know there is a problem inputing hebrew strings into variables in captivate since there is no middle eastern version to the software, but I also having problems displaying system variables such as current date etc', and even inputting numbers into user variable.
Would appreciate your help,

Have you tried downloading and installing the Captivate 5.5 trial version and testing it with these Hebrew characters and variable issues?
I know that Cp 5 and 5.5 have some support for double-byte Asian characters, so maybe they also have better support for Hebrew.
Also, when you add a variable string using the $$ characters on each end, make sure there's a space between before the first $$ characters and after the final $$ characters enclosing the variable string.

As 'm fairly new to scripting in linux there are still many things I don't know about the regular syntax. So I've made a script where in a variable $nb I retain the number of lines from the result of a series of commands. I have to use a variable as the number of lines from the output is not the same all the time.
To finish my script I need to use a for loop something like this
for i in {1..$nb}
do
echo "bla bla bla $i"
done
the thing is if $nb, for example, has the value 29 it outputs
bla bla bla {1..29}
without doing any loop.
So how can I use a variable, to define the edge of an interval in a for statement ?

The sanctioned method in Bash is using a C style for loop:
for ((i=0; i<nb;i++)); do
done
Because brace expansion is performed before parameter expansion, a range like {1..$nb} will fail.

How to use Variable in message mapping

Hi Experts,
I have some problem using variable in message mapping.
In one message mapping, since a block of logic is repeated for several fields, then i tried to use a variable instead.
the repeated logic is: first if condition, then use a udf to form a queue which will be suppressed by its father node.
i tried to assign the result queue to a variable after the UDF execution. (this variable is created after the father node)
I am wondering is there any restriction of using variable?
Can we assign the whole queue to a variable?
Can we use UDF during the process of assigning value to variable?

I dont think you can assign a queue to a variable,I am not 100% sure, . and there is no restriction to useing a Zvariable, only u can use it after you declare at some parent level.
Yes you can use a UDF in the process of assigning to a Zvariable.

Hi! I have a problem with variables in Crystal Reports formulas, when using CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms.CrystalReportViewer class from VS2005-project. I am having the same problem:
I am designing a report in Crystal Reports XI Developer that contains parameters, which are passed to a stored procedure and are also used within formulas ( in Crystal Syntax ie. {?FORMAT_ID} ) in the report itself.
I can run the report successfully in CRXI Developer. The formulas use the correct values from the parameters entered during execution and everything looks good.
I then deploy the report to Business Objects Enterprise XI. I do all of the things necessary to manage the report including setting up the proper database connection information and default parameter values.
When I run the report using the Crystal Report Viewer, I get the following error message:
Error in File Forecasting.rpt:
Error in formula <Report Format>.
'if (not isNull({?FORMAT_ID} ) ) then
This field name is not known.
Details: errorKind
This happens when I press the "Preview" button in the Manage Object dialog from Crystal or when I run the report using InfoView.
I have changed the formulas and it doesn't seem to matter what the specific content of the formula is; other than the existence of a parameter reference in the formula. If I comment out the parameter and replace it with a hard-coded value, it gets through the formula fine.
Does Business Objects Enterprise XI support crystal reports with parameter references in the formulas?

Problem with Multimapping using Variable Susbtitution

I have done a Multi-Mapping where I have used variable substitution in the mapping
The problem I am facing is that when my target message generates multiple messages the files are creating successfully on the FTP server but if only a
single message generates on the target side then my message is successfully processed in IS but in adapter engine the message status is in "Waiting" state.
When i see the audit log i found the following details:

Process Integrator Problem (use of session bean variable between tasks)

Hello,
I'm having a problem using the Process Integrator. I made a
really simple workflow (Start, Task1, Task2, Done) which uses
the bean given whith the order processing example. Task1 creates
the bean and executes a business operation (check inventory).
Task2 executes another business operation (calculate total
price). The problem is when I try to execute this second b.o I
get an exception saying
Nested exception is: Workflow error:
com.bea.wlpi.common.WorkflowException: Empty instance object for
business operation "Calculate Total Price" in
template "Template3".
Someone could help me and tell me what I am doing wrong.

If I understand you correctly, you have 3 business operations, one is "Create a EJB",
one is call "Check Inventory", the other is "Caculate Total Price". I assume you
save the EJB handle to a workflow variable with a type Bean. My speculation is when
you define business operation for "Calculate Total Price", you did not associate
it with the workflow variable that you saved the EJB handle. Just a wild guess.

Problem using the value of the variable in the KM options - Essbase Extract

Hi,
I am able to extract the data from Hyperion Essbase using the report script present in D:\ODIHome\oracledi\demo\hyperion.
Instead of hardcoding the absolute file path in LKM options, I have requirement to use the value of variable, PIPHome and form the file path.
So in LKM Options I gave Extraction Query File path as #GLOBAL.PIPHome \oracledi\demo\hyperion\extract.rep
Its not able extract the data and throwing following exception.............Please help me in using the variable value in KM options. Thanks.

Hi,
If you are going to use variable as one of the options then what you can do is create a package.
Drag your variable on to the package and set or declare it.
Then drag your interface on to the package.
Now when you execute the package it should make use of the variable.

Problem in SELECT TAG using variables

Hi all,
I have a JSP page which updates the record for a user.Now there is a HTML select tag and when the user queries its data this SELECT tag will automaticaly select the user stored item in database automatically. It means the select tag will have a variable to select the options. Now how can i use variables in SELECT TAG. Please help needed.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but here goes.
First, are you able to populate the select box with all the names... this is what it sounds like to me.
Or are you not able to populate it nor select it.
I use JSTL for all my jsps... so for me I would store a collection on the form and then iterate through it. (arrayList being my preference)
look into using <c:forEach> or you could try <logic:iterate> which I've used before but it has been several years.
here is an example block of code.
Sorry this is going to be a bit convoluted because of what I'm doing with it..
but I have an ArrayList that contains string arrays... position 0 being the value I want returned (like 1 through 10) and position 1 being the text representation..
so it comes out like

You will notice the if statement where I check to see if the localList[0] is equal to the view field. view would be your selected value.

Problem in variable substitution

Hi experts,
I need help for a strange problem:
I have a proxy to file scenario in which I create an xml file; I need to use a field of the mapping to create filename.
In Receiver CChannel I have used variable substitution, but in message monitoring I got this error:

Hi,
Everything looks fine.
Make sure that there is no extra space after your "%Folio%" under the Variable Substitution.
Make sure that "Adapter Specific message Attributes" is unchecked in the CC.
You can do a change in message mapping to create a header field<occurence: 1> map to a constant and call it in var substitution.
As Mickael suggested above make sure using only lowercase on your variant name %folio% instead of %Folio%.

Problem with Variable Substitution Receiver Adapter

I need to use a dynamic filename so I'm using the variable substitution in my receiver adapter. BUT, the filename can't appear in the file. So i used this blog in reference --> Solution to the problem encountered using Variable Substitution with XI-SP12
The PROBLEM is I still get and extra blank line in the file. How can I eliminate this extra line?

Problem returning variables from dynamic SQL/PLSQL

Hi, I have a problem I am trying to solve using a very short piece of dynamic SQL or PLSQL but I am having problems getting the variable values out of the dynamic block.
I have 16 counters whose names are made up of three variable parts - 'scheme', 'contributory category' and 'employment category'
The 'scheme' can be either 'no1', 'no2', 'off', 'cg' or 'amc'
The 'contributory category' can be either 'cont' or 'noncont'
The 'employment category' can be either 'ft' or 'pt'
(There are only 16 because only 16 combinations are possible)
For example the total counter name could be 'v_cg_noncont_ft_count'
I have created a variable by concatenating the various elements called v_incr_count_name which holds the name of the counter I want to increment.
I am running this whole thing within an anonymous PLSQL block so I cannot use global variables meaning that my variables are not visible within a dynamic PLSQL block.
I believe this means that either I need to bind the variables within a PLSQL block or use a SELECT FROM INTO SQL block.
I have tried a few solutions with no luck such as the following PLSQL:
v_incr_count := 'v_'||v_scheme||'_'||v_cont_cat||'_'||v_emp_cat||'_count';
sql_stmt := 'BEGIN :a := :a + 1; END;';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE sql_stmt USING v_incr_count_name;
Unfortunately I am getting the 'IN bind variable bound to an OUT position' error which I believe is because it is trying to return a value into v_incr_count_name which has been defined by default as an IN variable. The problem is that I need to store the returned value into the variable whose name is stored in v_incr_count_name.
Another solution I tried is:
v_incr_count_name := 'v_'||v_scheme||'_'||v_cont_cat||'_'||v_emp_cat||'_count';
sql_stmt := 'SELECT '||v_incr_count_name||' + 1 FROM DUAL';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE sql_stmt INTO v_return;
This solution gives me an 'Invalid colum error'
Any help would be greatly appreciated

i have a analytic view which has a output column as date type. i want the user who use this view have the control to decided the output records based on a time range (from x to y).
i tried to create 2 variables, 1 for start_time, 1 for end_time. Ideally, i should have a expression for filtering data like this:
$$start_time <= date_column <= $$end_time
However, the variable windows doesn't seem to be feasible for the expression as above.
Does anyone has the same problem and get it solved?

just figured out by my own. So the answer is using "variable" with "range" option.
Making a variable, then set the "selection type" to "range".
When preview the data, the variable input window pops up with operator on default "equal", use dropdown list to swtich it to "between", then you can enter the start_time and end_time as a range filter.

White lines generateds in a File Adapter when using variable substitution.

I have been a problem in File generated by XI, my File Adapter is using variable substitution with reference to a field of my message type. Because it, the files generated has white lines in top of file.
What can I do to not apears these lines ?

Mutating Error problem using audit trigger for UPDATE

I need to add 4 columns to all of my tables named:
INSERT_BY
INSERT_DATA
UPDATE_BY
UPDATE_DATE
I intend these to act as "inserted" and "last updated" audit trails within the table, as opposed to creating a new table and storing the audit information there. The insert columns appear to be easy, as I can just use a DEFAULT clause within the definition of the table. However when I attempted to write a (my first) trigger then I run into problems with mutating tables. Presumebly because I am attempting to change the table while the trigger is referencing it.
create or replace trigger test_audit
after update on dictionary
begin
update dictionary
set update_by = user, update_date = sysdate
where entity_id = :old.entity_id;
end;
I thought I could maybe get around this by calling a procedure from inside the trigger. Something like:
create or replace procedure test_audit(vColumn in varchar2, vData in varchar2, vTable in varchar2) is
-- vTable is table name
-- vColumn is PK of table
-- vData is value of PK in current row
begin
update vTable
set update_by = user, update_date = sysdate
where vColumn = vData;
commit;
end test_audit;
However I cannot use variable for table names. Will this mean I have to create a procedure for each table/trigger? Is there a way to reference the table name as a variable and keep this a generic procedure? Or is there an easier way to record the auditing UPDATE information for each changed row within the original table?
