Problem w/ serial CTS: asserted when it shouldn't be

Hey,
I have an old Klinger CC1.2 motor controller I'm trying to control with labview through a standard RS-232-C serial port. As far as I know there is no driver for it
According to the manual, the CTS signal should be asserted when a) it is first turned on, b) it finishes accepting a command, or c) it finishes executing a command.The CTS will be deasserted during command acceptance and exectution.
I'm trying to use the CTS signal to tell me when a command has finished executing, which (from the description above) is what the manual suggests I should be able to do. To do this, I'm sending commands to the motor controller via the Instrument I/O Assistant. After that I have a while loop that waits 100 ms before checking the CTS State using a Property Node. The program leaves the while loop when the CTS is asserted (when it outputs a 1).
The problem I'm having is that the CTS doesn't always deassert itself when the motor is still moving, i.e. when a command is still being executed. I'm hoping this is just labview operator error and not some problem internal to the CC1.2.
Any suggestions?

I would not hold your breath waiting for a reply the original poster hasn't been on this site for almost a year, and then it was only on a couple of times. Hopefully someone else may have the manual, but they may not look at this thread unless they are having serial comm issues.

  • Problem with subtitles automatically displaying when they shouldn't

    Hi all,
    I've got a DVD with multiple languages (English, Spanish, and French) and one subtitle stream (English) on the main program of a DVD I am authoring. I would like the DVD to default to the English audio stream and for the subtitles to be in the "off" state". The user can then select via a menu button if the subtitles are to be displayed or not.
    The problem is, on certain (multiple) DVD players, the client is telling me that the subtitles are automatically displaying, regardless of whether or not they have chosen to show them. Of course, none of my test players exhibit this behavior, so it is difficult for me to troubleshoot what the problem might be.
    I have tried setting it to default to a blank subtitle track and have also tried removing the English language designation on the subtitle track (which feel more like workarounds more than actual solutions), but the subtitles are still automatically displaying.
    Any guess as to what is going on? Is this a problem on the client end, or is there scripting I will need to add to ensure consistent results from player to player?

    I was able to solve the subtitle display problem with some simple scripting. For some reason certain DVD players (a fairly high percentage) are ignoring any Set System Stream commands from the DVD.

  • Podcasts are syncing when they shouldn't be

    My iPod finally ran out of space so I wanted to remove some of the video podcasts from it. I have my podcast syncing set to sync the selected podcasts so I thought I could just uncheck the ones I didn't want to keep on my iPod and sync to remove them. That didn't work so I put my iPod in manual sync mode and removed them. I turned off the manual sync option and told it to sync again and it's copying all my podcasts (even the ones that aren't checked on the podcast tab). How do I make it stop so I can free up some space?

    Ok, I can confirm that the problem doesn't affect music playlists.
    I've also noticed that the files that get copied when they shouldn't take up more space than the ones that are supposed to be there. I noticed this by syncing, checking a podcast that was previously unchecked, then resyncing. It wasn't a lot of space, only around 10-25 mb.
    I've also found a workaround to get the files off my iPod. I have the "Sync only checked songs and videos" option checked on the summary tab for my iPod in iTunes. I can uncheck each individual podcast that I don't want to be on my iPod, then resync and they are removed. So I guess the problem is only present on the Podcasts (possibly movies and tv shows too) tab of the iPod screen in iTunes.
    Is there somewhere else I should go to submit a bug report?

  • Problem with *serial no. profile* in work sheduling view of material master

    Hi ! !
    I am here with a problem with serial no. profile in work sheduling view of material master.
    By mistake for some FHMI type ( PRODUCTION RESOURCE TOOLS )materials, serial no profile exist in 'work sheduling' view. Due to that we are facing problem in GRN.
    when I am trying to remove that with MM02. i m getting a message as Serial numbers already assigned to this material
    Please suggest how to remove serial no. profile.
    Thanks in advance,
    Prab

    Hi,
    go to MMBE and check the Current Serial number...for  FHMI type
    and go to IQ02 and close the Serial number range at the Current number range...
    Now you can assign this serial number range to another material type...
    Thx

  • AfterValueChange event trigged when it shouldn'tbe...

    Hi there,
    I'm hoping that someone out there has experienced the following (and
    knows why it is happening. ) :-)
    I have a couple of windows on which the AfterValueChange event is
    triggered on a field upon hitting the delete key.
    We all know that this should only happen upon leaving the field, ie. the
    field loosing focus. The problem is that I'm trying to recreate this in
    a simple test class, but now it won't happen. I still have the original
    windows on which it is happening, but I would like to construct
    something small and simple to send to Forte.
    Any ideas as to why this could be happening?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the replies so far, but this is not the problem. I know about
    the "Validate on keystroke" option and it is definitely swithed off.
    I was rather thinking along the lines of this being be a 'funny' in
    Forte. Has anyone seen this before? Here is more information:
    1) The windows that it is happening on all have parent windows.
    2) The fields with this problem are all part of a mapped gridfield, ie.
    it has a type.
    However, I have constructed a test class with these characteristics, but
    it is no good. There must be something else that could cause this. Any
    ideas?

    Hi Jaco,
    Check if the option "Validate on keystroke" is set
    to true on the widget that posts the AfterValueChange.
    If so, than that's the reason. Turn it off and your
    problem will go away.

  • AltKey Uniqueness Rule firing when it shouldn't

    Hello,
    I am using JDev 11.1.1.4.0.
    I have a 'Name' field that has Altkey for uniqueness rule. It works fine. In fact, it works too well that the rule fires when it shouldn't.
    So I was looking for an example to execute the validation conditionally, for my case only when 'Save'.
    Any suggestion/comment appreciated.
    Thank you
    Bones Jones

    No reason in particular, when I created the class, FlashBuilder put it in there (I'm using Flash Pro CS5 + Flash Builder 4). I read that it calls it by default when the class is constructed, so having it in or out didn't really matter. I did comment it out with no luck, but I ended up shifting around the timeline quite a bit today and the problem has gone away. It seemed to only do it when it was in the first frame.
    Thanks for your help, I'm going to investigate it further when I have time just for reference, I'll post anything I find here.
    -Nick

  • Getting ORA-01403:, when it shouldn't

    Greetings, i apologize beforehand for my spelling, name(takes 6 hours to change) and the headache you migth get, however,
    i bring you the following code, and test results:
    ------Procedure wich throws the error-------
    create or replace
    procedure P_COLEGAS(x in number) as
    ctipo varchar2(20);
    asd varchar2(20);
    cursor curnombre is
    select nombre from unidad,elemento where (elemento.id_elem=unidad.id_elem and unidad.tipo=ctipo and elemento.ciudad=asd);
    begin
    select unidad.tipo, elemento.ciudad into ctipo,asd from unidad,elemento where unidad.id_elem=x and elemento.id_elem=x;
    for blah in curnombre loop
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('nombre unidad: '||blah.nombre||' ');
    end loop;
    end;
    -what i get when executing the procedure-
    Error que empieza en la línea 1 del comando:
    exec p_colegas(19)
    Informe de error:
    ORA-01403: no data found
    ORA-06512: at "BD00.P_COLEGAS", line 9
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    01403. 00000 - "no data found"
    *Cause:
    *Action:-----------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------the real problem--------------------
    if in that procedure i were to write
    (1)
    select unidad.tipo into ctipo from unidad where unidad.id_elem=x;(2)
    select elemento.ciudad into asd from elemento where elemento.id_elem=x;instead the single query i wrote, we get the following:
    (1) works wonderfull, only gets the error when there are no matches for x.
    (2) throws the error i showed before.
    however when i do the following query in the worksheet and execute it:
    (3)
    select elemento.ciudad from elemento where elemento.id_elem=x;i get what i expected to get 1 row 1 column.(yes it has data)
    note: in (3) the only difference is that i remove the into clause, and x is the same number i used when i execute the procedure.
    --------------------the question------------------------
    why in the procedure, the query (2) fail to fetch the data, the same data wich the query(3) does not fail to fetch?
    i'm getting ORA-01403, when i shouldn't?
    is there a work around to this problem?
    --------------------what i try------------------------------
    nested the query with it's own error handle exception, getting the same results, just catches the error with a different handling.

  • Problems on serial communication with an instrument

    Hello everybody!
    I'm having some problems interfacing with an Optical Spectrum Analyser from Anritsu via RS232. It has a GPIB interface that works well already, but i need to make communication work thru the serial port. If i use Measurement and Automation, i can write and read the commands alright. But, if i use a self made Labview vi, it doesn't work at all.
    My vi consisted on:
    ViOpen - ViWrite - ViRead - ViClose
    Normally, i can know when the communication initialized alright with the OSA because the instrument enters a "communication state". When i use M&A, it enters on that state. When i use Labview, it doesn't.
    I used NI Spy to see what differences were between the M&A and Labview. Here is a list of comm
    ands issued by M&A:
    viOpen(...,"ASRL1::INSTR",...)
    viInstallHandler(...) *
    viEnableEvent(...)
    viWriteAsync(...)
    viReadAsync(...)
    viClose(...)
    My Labview VI issues the following commands:
    viOpen(...,"ASRL1::INSTR",...)
    viWriteAsync(...)
    viReadAsync()
    viWaitonEvent()
    viWaitonEvent()
    viWaitonEvent()
    viTerminate()
    viClose()
    Labview returns a "problems in serial read" error, but i know that the program doesn't even begins communication with the OSA. I suspect that the error lies on that viInstallHandle function, that is ran in the M&A routine but it isn't on Labview, but i can't find a way to make a vi that runs this function.
    Anyone can help??? I am really frustrated because i know that serial communication works, but on M&A only!!!
    Thanks in advance
    Felipe

    I consulted the document "VISA and Serial Communication" from ni.com. It
    was helpful. I'm using Labview 6.
    I don't know how to get Labview to tell me what it is doing at the level of
    viTerminate(), etc., so I suppose I may not be able to contribute anything
    to you, but I did get my serial port working in Labview recently.
    I used a loopback test, by shorting pins 2 and 3, to verify that Labview was
    successfully sending and receiving from the chosen serial port.
    I made a .vi that let me do one thing at a time, initialize, write, and
    read. This helped me realize that the instrument wasn't very fast at
    getting back to me, when I was nailing down what I thought was a receiving
    problem.
    To get Labview to use the serial port on this system I had to uninstall a
    graphics tablet driver that was taking control of the port on bootup. VISA
    would report that there was a problem until I did this. Maybe if M&A runs
    first your OS still thinks the port is being used and won't let Labview use
    it.
    Also, depending on what serial .vi I was using, I needed to verify that I
    identified the port correctly. Port 0 in Labview, in my case, corresponds
    to COM1, this is for the "compatibility" .vis. When using VISA serial .vis,
    I discovered that COM1 was identified by VISA as ASRL1. However the default
    resource name that came up when putting a VISA serial .vi into a diagram was
    ASRL2 which does not exist on this system. Manually changing the "2" to a
    "1" in the front panel solved my problems.
    Your M&A and Labview VISA seem to agree on ASRL1, which might indicate that
    isn't the problem.
    I used the VISA interactive control to tell me how VISA was doing
    identifying the ports and which ports it thought it could use during any
    given session. This is available on my system in the VISA program group. If
    there are yellow question marks on ports in this program, the port in
    question has wandered away.
    There are some examples and functions in the directory:
    Labview 6\vi.llb\instr\serial.llb
    and also in the directory
    Labview 6\examples\instr\simplserl.llb,
    as well as
    Functions --> Instrument I/O --> Serial
    and
    Functions --> Instrument I/O --> I/O Compatibility --> Serial
    Compatibility

  • Phone rings when it shouldn't

    I put my phone on vibrate but it will ring when I get a call. It was not one of my contacts either.

    I figured out the HTMLDB problem. The process executes conditionally based on the Value of the submitted buton, NOT the name of the submitted button. So I had a button in another region that had a different name, but had the same Value. (ie. "Go), so the process was executing when it shouldn't have been. This is a bug.

  • (IDCS4Win) Strange and befuddling asserts when loading a document

    I am getting two strange and befuddling asserts when I am loading/manipulating a particular CS4 document.  This first one comes up once or twice when reading the document:
    XferReference of invalid UID(30213) detected while reading.  Has the UID been deleted, or is it uninitialized?
    I receive the second assert literally dozens of times while loading the document:
    UIDCheckStream has detected an invalid reference.  It is safe to continue.
    Does anyone have information on what these asserts are trying to tell me?
    I am assuming that what they are telling me is that I have empty or corrupt UIDs in the document database.  Is there any way to fix these problems?
    TIA,
    John

    The first assert means that some object points to a different object while the latter has been deleted.
    For example, there is a page item, you removed a color and the color is still in use by the page item's stroke. Class names are for illustration purpose only, could be anything else.
    The debug build iterates the whole document database to find such dangling UIDs. It opens every persistent interface and streams it thru a special PMStream to verify the existence of touched UIDs. The stream itself issues that assert, while it is called from within the ReadWrite method of the interface in question.
    To solve the problem you have to find out which object is holding that reference, and guess from that the class of the deleted object (e.g. the color), because that class is not available any more for deleted objects. The only thing sure is that the deleted object is not owned / parented by the other one, otherwise the assert would be about XferObject.
    How woudl you find the referring class? On a Mac, examine the stack backtrace to see wich ReadWrite is active. On Windows you probably won't have anything readable on the stack. Maybe you can export to IDML, unzip the package and use text search? Of course that assumes your reference is thru something scriptable. Otherwise IDML might at least be a way to repair the document ...
    Then you have to find out the way the object was deleted, how that delete command notifies and how you can handle such references - e.g. substitute with a different color, or just clear the reference.
    The way to do this depends on object type - color consumers have to register with a weird reference handling service that I still haven't fully understood, page items notify globally via PageItemUtils / kDocBoss subject, others go thru responders, and so forth.

  • The problem i am having is when i go to open a file from the menu bar that as "FILE" is blackcolor

    the problem i am having is when i go to open a file from the menu bar that as "FILE" is all black in color and i cant see what i'm picking how do i change that so i can see what i'm picking

    Is that Photoshop?  Depending on the version you could try to change the Color Theme (Edit | Preferences | General | Appearance).
    If that does not help, you may have a better chance to get a useful answer if you ask in the Photoshop or Photoshop Elements forum.

  • Problem with JTree custom renderer when editing
