Problem with column name width

Hello!
I have a report and the column names are too big. Is there a possible way to make them appear in two lines so the column width would be smaller?
Thanx in advance for any answers...

Hello,
I can't reproduce that problem. Probably dependent of the Template you're using. You can try setting the height of the class (I can't tell you which one - unless you set up an example on apex.oracle.com) to a larger value.

  • Problem with column names

    I have named my columns for exaomple column trasanctionid as "TransactionID".But when i write a process and run the query in the process it takes the column name as all in cappital letters.Hence it gives me follwing error.
    ORA-00904: "TRANSACTIONID": invalid identifier
    I want to know whether there is any constraint to name columns all inc apital letters in apex.I am finding it difficult to change column name and then make changes throughout the app for it.This error has popped up many times for me and I had to everytime change the column anme to all capitals to get rid of this error.

    Glad to hear it.
    And as you can see from the other responses, case sensitive column names are not widely understood (many people assume they don't exist), so it's really best to avoid them wherever possible. The only time I've seen column names defaulting to case sensitive was when we imported a table from Microsoft Excel using a third-party tool (Toad). This caused us a rather significant amount of headache, and it's something I've been careful to check for ever since.
    Of course, once a table or a column is created with a case-sensitive name, it can be hard to break free, as you're discovering--you can't just alter the table and rename the column, as your existing code will break. (transactionid is equal to "TRANSACTIONID", but not "TransactionID".) So if you're not willing to go through your entire codebase to fix the case-sensitivity (and most of us don't have time to), you're going to have to get used to putting quotes on the things that need it.
    Which will, of course, help you remember to make your table and column names case-insensitive in the future. :-)

    Karthik:
    No, it is not a bug, it is just the way that Oracle works. The list of reserved words can be found in the view v$reserved_words. There is a column in that view called reserved. A word that is in the view and has Y in the reserved column is "really" reserved, that is you will get an error if you use it in an inappropriate place (like a column name) without quoting it. Words with N in the reserved column should not be used as object names, but because they either became special later in Oracle history or for other reasons can be used unquoted but shouldn't be.
    Although I don't know the exact internal mechanism, from experience, it appears to work this way. When Oracle stores the name of a table or column, it always makes it upper case, unless it is double quoted in which case the case is preserved. When it retireves the names, it does not make any changes to the name as it is stored, so always retieves the name as it was stored.
    In the OP's case, by using double quotes he got around the reserved word issue, but by using all upper case within the double quotes what ended up stored in the data dictionary was a reserved word. The sql statement probably worked in sql because it is just doing a string match to see if the specified column names are right, and in the absence of a column list, may even be just looking to see if the type and number is correct without actually looking at the name. I suspect this because it works even if you explicitly list the columns as long as DATE is double quoted.
    SQL> INSERT INTO t (id, "DATE") VALUES (1, sysdate);
    1 row created.
    SQL> roll
    Rollback complete.However, if you do not double quote the column, you get:
    SQL> INSERT INTO t (id, DATE) VALUES (1, sysdate);
    INSERT INTO t (id, DATE) VALUES (1, sysdate)
    ERROR at line 1:

  • Problem with columns in the middle of my book

    I am writing my second book with Pages 2.02 and have run into a problem with columns. I want to add a long list of items as a list with check boxes for readers to check off. If I paste in enough text for three or four pages of two columns it gets messed up in various ways - the text flows into the following text if I don't use section breaks at the end instead of layout breaks, if I use section breaks it solves that one, but if I add anything to the list it changes all the columns across the pages so that one or several of the pages has way less in the right column than in the left. So far the left column fills the entire page all the time, but the right column has lots of spaces. If I switch back and forth from one column to two, it fixes it. If I add text before the list section it messes everything up again and because there is a section break I end up with a little bit of text on the last page and a huge gap before the single column part that follows.
    Does anyone know how to get reliable results that will not mess me up when adding content before the list or in the list itself?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Cymru,
    Thank you for thinking about my problems. I guess I s half asleep when I posted and it didn't make sense.
    I have so far 77 pages of the book divided into several chapters via section breaks. Inside the 5th section there is almost two pages of paragraphs. Those paragraphs could become 3.75 pages or who knows how long before the list of items. The list of items is 226 items separated by carriage returns and go from one word with 5 characters to 7 words and 34 characters. It needs to be a list with check boxes before them so that the user can check off the items that apply. It is a workbook about turning bipolar into an advantage and is currently 8.5 x 11 and printed on my laser printer for now, but when completed will be more like 8 x 10, so it needs to resize without major hassles.
    I have tried every combination of breaks to get the list to flow in two columns, but perhaps have not done the correct combination. I show invisibles and layout. At the end of my paragraphs I do a paragraph return. I then do either a section break or a layout break, followed by a paragraph return and another layout or section break. I then put my curser before the paragraph break, but after the first section/paragraph break, and set columns to 2, evenly divided by default with 3.2026" columns and .3375" gutter, but I want them to change with page size in the future.
    Once set up, I copy the text out of BBEdit and paste into the left column. It takes up several pages because it is formatted to do double spaces, so I use one of my styles to make it bold and single spaces. I then apply list style with image bullets and one of the default box images that came with Pages. There are 5 items in each column on the first page because it is close to the bottom, but flows into the next two pages. (with text edits it might end up 20 items in each column on the first page) The second page has 39 items in each column and the last page has 8 items in the left column only, but if with section breaks take up the whole page and the next paragraphs start on the next page. If I then add items to the list, every page gets messed up and the second page ends up with 39 on the left column and less items in the right column for each added item.
    If I use layout breaks instead of section breaks, the paragraphs following my lists (now with only one column) end up under the list. What that means is I can see my bold items, but beneath them are my paragraphs that belong after the list. I can see the layout break at the end of the list, but the columns that are shown as part of the 'view layout' are visible right over the single column text also for the rest of the page. The only way to solve that is to go with section breaks and put up with the gap from the end of the list to the following paragraphs.
    I hope this makes more sense.

  • Problem with variable name in ZXRSRTOP include (virtual KF)

    Hi all,
    I am coding a routine to use a virtual key figure in the BEx.
    I have just a little problem with the name of a variable:
    as explained in the documentation, I created the variable with the prefix G_POS_, the name of the infocube and the name of the infoobject all together:
    DATA: G_POS_BC_ST_003_C_DIV__C_COMPAR   type i.
    The problem is that this variable name is longer than 30 characters, so the system doesn't accept it.
    Is there a workaround, other than changing the name of the infoobject (which is a navigational attribute)?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Loï

    Hello Marc,
    I understand that I have to use a concatenate function and a dynamic call of the variable with (variable) instruction, but i do not understand how to implement it.
    the infocube name is BC_ST_003
    the characterisdtic name is C_DIV__COMPAR
    So, in the include ZXRSRTOP the statement
    DATA : G_POS_BC_ST_003_C_DIV__COMPAR
    does not work due a length problem (see first post)
    But in the same include the statement
    +DATA: l_global_name type c.
    concatenate 'GPOS' 'BC_ST_003' 'C_DIV__C_COMPAR' into l_global_name separated by '_'.+
    drives to the following error : statement is not accessible.
    Could u please provide me with an example of the code in the include ZXRSRTOP, and in the include ZXRSRZZZ for the use of this variable.
    Thanks in advance.

    Never mind, I already found the solution myself.
    What I did wrong was:
    - not copying the master image to the nbi folder
    - selecting the netinstall-restore.dmg image as source to copy to my HD.
    The thing is, when you create a netinstall image for 10.5, the image itself is already included in the netinstall image so you don't have to do anything else.
    With the 10.4 image however, you also have to copy the master image to the NetBootSP0 directory.
    In the *.nbi folder contains an netinstall-restore.dmg file. But that is only to boot you to netrestore, it's not the image itself.
    Other alternative is to copy the images to another folder that you share with AFP and adjust the configuration of netrestore like described in this manual:
    http://www.shellharbourd.det.nsw.edu.au/pdf/misc/osxrestoringnet.pdf
    This manual was also how I figured out that I forgot to copy the image to the NetBootSP0 folder.

  • Problem with song names

    Hey, I'm having this problem with song names. For example, instead of the song title being "Song Title" it will be like "Artist Name - Song Title". It's like this for half my files. I'm trying to organize my music files and every time I fix it, it keeps going back.
    This has happened to me before and usually if I double click it, it will automatically change. This time, nothing seems to work except doing it manually ("Get Info)" and that would take too long since I have 7,000 files like this. I posted this on another board and somebody said to right click the songs and click Update ID3 v2.4 which originally worked, but now nothing but manually doing it works.
    This is like this when I open it for other programs, but I know iTunes caused. I think it has something to do with the "Keep my iTunes Folder Organized" check because iTunes renames the file. I also tried reinstalling itunes and readding my files.
    Thanks for any help!

    I don't completely understand what you are trying to say, but iTunes doesn't automatically change your tag information.
    iTunes stores a copy of the tag information in the library database. When you play a track, iTunes re-reads the tag information from the song file and updates the library data. This produces the efferct that iTunes appears to change tag information but it isn't, it is meerly reflecting a change that already happend.
    Do you have any other software on your PC that can automatically change tag information? For example Windows Media player can do it if you select an option to retrieve data from the internet and overwrite existing info. But other software may do it too.
    If you want to force iTunes to re-read all tags, go to your Music view and go to Edit>>Select All. Then right click in the selection and choose Get Info. Don't change anything, just exit by clicking OK. iTunes will update the library with the tag information from the song files.

    Thank you.

    you need to add a query based on catalog view information_schema.columns for that

  • Migrating from Sql Server tables with column name starting with integer

    hi,
    i'm trying to migrate a database from sqlserver but there are a lot of tables with column names starting with integer ex: *8420_SubsStatusPolicy*
    i want to make an offline migration so when i create the scripts these column are created with the same name.
    can we create rules, so when a column like this is going to be migrated, to append a character in front of it?
    when i use Copy to Oracle option it renames it by default to A8420_SubsStatusPolicy
    Edited by: user8999602 on Apr 20, 2012 1:05 PM

    Hi,
    Oracle doesn't allow object names to start with an integer. I'll check to see what happens during a migration about changing names as I haven't come across this before.

  • Apache FOP Problem with column width

    We are using Apache FOP to generate simple pdf documents out of reports.
    My problem is that the table in the pdf is as standard filled in with columns of same length.
    Further on the content of some table fields is to large or sometimes there is to much room.
    is there any possiblity to let fop react like html?
    The smallest table field size should be like the content. I don't want to adjust all my reports, cause there are really many reports with pdf printing.
    anyone an idea how to solve this with FOP?
    i have no BI pubisher or other reporting engines for this problem
    thx so far

    Oliver,
    I think what you're looking for is having your column width automatically adjusted based on the content of your column values. That is not possible with the built-in, generic XSL-FO template. What you can do is manually adjusting the column width to appropriate values on the print attributes page.

    Hi Marc,
    I am trying to use this simple check box to update records in a tabular form that is created through tabular form wizard.
    Now as what you said I included one more column in the tabular form sql query for my check box column.
    Lets say, if my table column name is sent_msg_ind then I have this included as below
    select sent_msg_ind, --hidden
             sent_msg_ind as sent_msg_ind_no_submit --simple check box
    from table_x;Now how to propogate the value of simple check box(1 - checked and 0 - unchecked) value into hidden field.
    I am using this tabular form to just update the records based on what is being fetched using the primary key from the previous page.
    Any example or demo would be highly appreciated here.
    Thanks,

    THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
    1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
    2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger.
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
    4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
    6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
    7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
    8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
    9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
    10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
    11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
    TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
    1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
    3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
    When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".

  • Problem with column selection in GUI_DOWLOAD

    Hi everyone !
    I want to save data from an internal table to a DAT file using GUI_DOWLOAD. In this internal table, there are 2 colums that won't be downloaded so I call the FM this way :
        CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_DOWNLOAD'
             EXPORTING
                  FILENAME                = L_FILE
                  FILETYPE                = 'DAT'
                  COL_SELECT              = 'X'
                  COL_SELECT_MASK          = V_COLSELECT
             TABLES
                  DATA_TAB                = TAB_OUT
                  FIELDNAMES              = TAB_FIELDNAMES.
    V_COLSELECT contains an 'X' for each column I need to be downloaded and a space for the 2 other columns.
    In the result file, the columns that I didn't select don't appear BUT there are 2 columns with no header and filled with zeros at the right edge of the file. I don't know where these 2 columns come from. Maybe a problem with fieldnames but I'm not sure (in TAB_OUT, all columns are present but in TAB_FIELDNAMES there are only headers for the selected columns).
    If anybody have an idea, please just tell me.
    Points will be rewarded for helpful answers.
    Thanks.
    Nicolas.

    Hi,
    Try to keep fields same in TAB_FIELDNAMES and TAB_OUT. because anyway you are using COL_SELECT_MASK.
    I think you are using COL_SELECT_MASK properly ie
    if you have 6 field in the TAB_OUT out of that you need to donwload 1,3,6 then your
    COL_SELECT_MASK will be X X  X

  • Problem With Image Names

    When I enter new images into iPhoto I name them using a set scheme. It goes something like this D108R218 - 14 - 1. The number following D is for the DVD disk on which the backup for this image is stored, the number following R is for the number of the roll, and the number following the first - is the number of the image on the roll. The final number following the last - is the number of prints made from this image.
    This system has worked well for me in terms of letting me track my thousands of images but I currently have a problem with it. As so often happens when I was applying these numbers I made some changes in the way I entered them. Early on I used the # sign following the Roll number but several months ago I stopped using it. Early on I would make a space before and after the -. Trouble is now when I conduct image searches there is no way for me to know whether to include the # or the spaces before and after the -. Is there any way I can fix this mess without having to go through thousands of images making the system uniform?

    Terence,
    How would you be able to do this using the Batch command? Wouldn't that destroy the number sequence entered into each file name?
