Problem with creating a ZIP file

I have a program that uses java.util.zip to zip all the files in a user's directory (aproximately 7 files totalling 2 MB). When the files are extracted later using WinZip or a similar tool, the files appear to be the same (same file size & date), but they can not be opened by the program that uses them. When I use a binary diff tool to compare the before zip and after zip files, it shows about 20 random bytes that have changed. Anybody else seen this occur?
Thanks

Hi,
I am successfull in putting all the files of a
directory in a newly created ZIP file. But if my
directory has a sub-directory, it's not workin....m
not able to zip it properly. I mean, my program is
doin it withour error but when i try to open it using
WinZip...it's giving me an error sayin as not a proper
archive...
Do anyone have faced this problem??
GauzYou need to call the following functions of ZipOutputStream after completing zipping in your code ?
     objZipOutputStream.finish();
     objZipOutputStream.close();Also for every file being zipped, you should to call
objZipOutputStream.closeEntry()to close that zipEntry.
Hope this helps.

  • Problem with Java and Zip Files

    Hello there everyone. I have a problem with trying to zip up directories with empty folders in them. They zip fine with my code, but according to winzip, the number of files in the archive is incorrect. It's supposed to have a total of 288 files in it, but when it's zipped up, it only says 284. I mention specifically the "empty directories" note because the zipping works fine without empty folders.
    Below is the code for the zip method:
    public static void zip(File[] list, File zipfile, File zipRoot)
         throws IOException {
          if (!zipfile.exists()) {
                   zipfile.createNewFile();
              else if (!zipfile.isFile()) {
                   throw new IOException("The zip file, " + zipfile.getAbsolutePath()
                             + " is not a file.");
              if (list.length == 0) {
                  LOG.error("The list of files to zip up is empty.");
              for (int i = 0; i < list.length; i++) {
                   if (!list.exists()) {
                        throw new IOException("The file or directory, " + list[i].getAbsolutePath()
                                  + " does not exist.");
              FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(zipfile);
              ZipOutputStream zos = new ZipOutputStream(fos);
              for (int i = 0; i < list.length; i++) {
                   if (LOG.isDebugEnabled())
                        LOG.debug(i + ": " + list[i].getName());
                   String entryName = getRelativeName(list[i], zipRoot);
                   if (list[i].isDirectory()){
                        if (list[i].listFiles().length == 0){
                             ZipEntry entry = new ZipEntry(entryName + "/");
                             zos.putNextEntry(entry);
                   else {
                        ZipEntry ze = new ZipEntry(entryName);
                        zos.putNextEntry(ze);
                        byte[] buffer = new byte[8096];
                        FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(list[i]);
                        int read = 0;
                        read = fis.read(buffer);
                        if (LOG.isDebugEnabled())
                        LOG.debug("\tFound " + read + " bytes.");
                        if (read == -1){
                             //empty file, but add it for preservation.
                             //zos.write(buffer,0,0);
                        while (read != -1) {
                             zos.write(buffer, 0, read);
                             read = fis.read(buffer);
                        fis.close();
                        zos.closeEntry();
              zos.close();
    The files look like they're there, but I need the system to be able to determine the number correctly.
    Here's the interesting thing:  It zips the files, and then when I use the size() method for zip files in java, it says 284 files.  But when I unzip, it says 288 again.  It's like there's files missing when compressed, but when decompressed, they return.  Note that the files are actually there.  If I open the archive in a third party app such as Winzip AND Winrar AND IZarc, they all show 288 files.  Any idea what would make the number of files appear incorrectly in a zip file when zipped by java with the code above?  Thanks in advance.

    I figured out the problem. When zipping files in windows using winzip, it doesn't explicitly count folders as a "file/folder" as a file in itself. It will create the folders for files to go in, but the folder itself will not be 'counted' when you query the info of the file itself. You have more control of the zip file in java, and can count the folder as a file or not.

  • Problem with creating a new file in the Filter

    hi,
    i have the following problem.
    1) For all requests ending with *.xml (for example requests such as http://www.asdf.com/feeds/myfile.xml ) i have mapped it to a filter
    2 ) In the filter i did the following...................
    //getting the file name from the url
    //create the file if it does not exists..................
    chain(request,reponse);
    //done
    problem is
    3) a) For files which iam not creating in filter (i.e files which are already there) the response is proper it is returning a xml file
    b) But for files which are not there already , which we are creating in the filter dynamically it is showing a 404 (i.e file not found message)
    But if i refresh again in the browser it is getting a valid XML file.......................................
    I could not able to figure it out why it is returning 404 error in cases where the file is being created dynamically.................................
    Can any one guide me resolving this problem?

    Hi pawan
    Try this badi :   MB_MIGO_BADI  -
    (BAdI in MIGO for External Detail Subscreens)  as the name suggest ,
    If you want to add a screen in header level use : Method : PBO_header an code as :
        e_cprog   = 'ZMMPRM0001'.     """ Your screen created
        e_dynnr   = '1000'.                     "Your screen No
        e_heading = 'TEXT ID '(004).    """" Name of the screen to be created .
      ELSE .
        e_cprog   = 'ZMMPRM0001'.
        e_dynnr   = '1000'.                     "External fields: Display
        e_heading = 'TEXT ID '."(004).
    or if at item level
    u can use methid : PBO_DETAIL
    for item level screen creation . and code in the same maaner ..
    You can explore the remaning methods as per your requirements .

    I wouldn't judge. I've been to Arch for a week, you know? But as said, it's VERY close to it.
    What I dislike after a week is makepkg not handling dependencies automatically (which would be overhead, so probably not appropriate).

    Don't actually need that as said ... I see no real benefit of having that other than not beeing a KDE user or having Gentoos useflags.

  • Problems creating/extracting ZIP files, anyone?

    Greetings,
    I am having some odd bugs with OSX in creating and extracting ZIP files.  I’m curious if anyone else has run across this or if anyone has any remedies to suggest.
    The issue is that when I extract a ZIP archive, the extracted files have their creation dates and modification dates changed from the original versions.  For example, I have a directory created in 2010 and all the files were created and last modified in 2010.  However, when I ZIP the directory and re-extract it, many of the file dates change.  Some files have the creation dates changed so to match the last modified date.  In other cases, both the creation date and modification date are changed to something later than both, perhaps the date the directory was ZIPed or the date the directory was extracted.  And some files don’t seem to have the dates changed.
    I have tried various options, such as terminal, and third party programs (BetterZip, Keka, Stuffit, & Archiver to name a few) and they all seem to have some variation of this behavior.  I have tried creating the Zip with one program and extracting with the other, and still this behavior persists.  Different files seem to be affected with each combination of creating and extracting programs.
    Another odd behavior was that I tried password protecting some directories with financial data, and OSX could create the ZIP file with the password, but OSX could not unzip the file with the password it created for some files.  In every case, third party program could unzip the files with the password created in the terminal command.  This seem to happen inconsistently.
    I have tried creating a dummy account and tested it in that account, with similar results.
    I’ve read the man page for the command line version of ZIP to see if there is some -option to preserve dates, but found nothing.  The typical command looks like this:
    > zip -er filename.zip  sourceDir
    > unzip filename.zip
    File types include directories, PDFs, Text docs, Quicken files.  Ive tested other directories too with other file types.  It doesn’t seem to affect every file, but seems unpredictable.  Luckily, I still have the original uncompressed version of most directories.  But I really want to archive some directories and unarchive them when needed.  The dates matter to me because they are mostly financial files and I use the dates to know what versions were used for taxes and other things.  Also, if dates change, then backup programs start replacing the good backups with files with the corrupted dates.
    I’d appreciate any suggestions or feedback.  I there some bug in the ZIP protocol?  Is there some bug in OSX file system that is corrupting the dates with the archive and unarchive process?
    Thank you for any suggestions-
    OSX 10.9.5,
    MBPro 2012

    OK, sorry did not read it correctly.  Read the first sentance and quit.
    No, Bridge is just a browser.  You can extract more than one file at a time in Win. Explorer.  You have to do them individually, but can run multiple extractions at the same time.
    There are other zip/unzip programs out there.  I know the the CS6 beta a number of users could not open it with WinZip and used alternate product just fine.

  • Problem in Unzipping the zip file

    Hi
    I have created a program to unzip the zip files in the folder named after the zip file
    it is working well well when u try to zip zip files put in a directory
    i.e u create a folder name contents and put files into that and then zip it
    but when u directly create a zip file , without putting in a folder
    it creates the folder and zip the files outside the folder
    Another problem is that with the path
    for e.g. suppose the zip file name is contents and path should show
    contents/filename.txt but there are some other files whose path shows
    res/file.txt. In this case it creates a folder of res and put it outside the
    folder with the name of zip file
    I have pasted my code :
    //Unzip the zip files to the folder with their name

  • Create a zip files in a special way

    Dear all,
    Following my yesterday's posting, I would clarify my questions:
    I successfully created a zip file which contains a folder structure and two files from strings. See attached codes.
    However, I don't like the way that I physically created subfolder and files before add them to the zip file.
    Is there any possibility to avoid that part of creating multiple folders?

    That doesn't make sense to me. Even more so as your sample code suggests that you are familiar with Writer and ZipEntry concepts. Can you explain in detail where you are stuck or what part of my previous suggestion was unclear to you?
    Scratch that, I think I finally understand your problem. I think the following sample code will get you on track:import java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream;
    import java.util.zip.ZipEntry;
    import java.io.FileOutputStream;

    import java.io.OutputStreamWriter;

            final String path = System.getProperty("user.home") + "/test.zip";
            ZipOutputStream zos = new ZipOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(path));
            BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(zos, "UTF-8"));
            for (int i = 0; i < content.length; ++i) {
                final ZipEntry entry = new ZipEntry(names);
    zos.putNextEntry(entry);
    bw.write(content[i]);
    bw.flush();
    zos.closeEntry();

  • Problem on downloading a zip file

    I am having a problem on downloading a zip file(file size is about 2Mb). Sometimes I can get a complete file and can open the file, sometimes the zip file is chunked(the file size is smaller than the right one), so I can't open it.
    The file content is stored in a blob field. The code first goes to database get the blob as inputstream, then copy the inputstream into response.getOutputStream().
    The problem is unpredictable. Even for the same blob data, sometimes I can get working file, sometimes I just get crapped file.
    Could somebody help me out? I am struggling with it.
    Any input is appreciated!
    public class DownloadTextAction extends Action implements Serializable{
        private static Log log = LogFactory.getLog(DownloadTextAction.class);
        public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping, ActionForm form,
                                     HttpServletRequest request,
                                     HttpServletResponse response) throws Exception
            ActionErrors errors = new ActionErrors();
            String batch_id = (String)request.getParameter("batch_id");
            String fileName = batch_id+".zip";
            try
    //          response.setContentType("application/octet-stream");
              response.setContentType("application/download");
      //        response.setContentLength(content.length());
    //          response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=\""
    //                    + fileName + "\"");
              response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\""
                        + fileName + "\"");
              InputStream in = untilService.getBlob(batch_id);
              OutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();
              FileHelper.copy(in, out);
              out.flush();
              in.close();
              out.close();
            catch (Exception e)
              errors.add(ActionErrors.GLOBAL_ERROR, new ActionError("error.detail", e.toString()));
              saveErrors(request, errors);
              log.error(e.toString());
            return mapping.findForward(Constants.SUCCESS);
        }

    Maybe a fault in the missing FileHelper.copy() method?

  • Problem in unzipping the zip files

    Hi,
    I have created a program to unzip the zip files. But when i try to zip it is creating the zipped files outside the folder where it is to be zipped.
    what is wrong with my code.
    if the zip file is migration.zip
    if the path inside the zip file shows
    and the path inside says this
    /codebase/scripts/
    it would create migration folder and create codebase folder outside the migration folder
    what is wrong with my code
    //Unzip the zip files to the folder with their name

  • A problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash

    Hi.
    There's a problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash.
    If I import a layered PSD file, some part the color of the lower layer is shown at the edge of objects or shadows. Instead, if I crop each layers first and import them, there's no problem.
    If the higher layer has brush or transparent effects, it becomes worse.
    Any help with this problem?
    Thanks.

    How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.

  • Problems with java.util.zip

    I've got a odd problem here. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum but I couldn't find anyplace more appropriate.
    So the problem is...
    I create my ZIP file and if I open it in WinZip, no problem. But if I open the ZIP file using the 'Compressed Folders' feature of Windows Explorer I don't see any of the files. As far as I can tell, if the files I ZIP up do not contain any path information then they open fine via 'Compressed Folders'.
    Is this a bug in java.util.zip? Or is the 'Compressed Folders' feature in Windows Explorer half-baked?
    And finally is there any way for me to not include the path information of the files added to ZIP?
    Thanks.

    Looce:
    I'm more than willing to modify things.
    But I'm still curious why WinZip and Windows are treating the ZIP files differently.
    Also, the only way I can figure to get the files into the ZIP without the path information being stored in the ZIP file is by copying the files to the directory containing my application jar file and then passing in the file name without the path being specified. That is the only way FileInputStream would be able to find the files without including path information. This seems like a lot of unnecessary overhead.
    Another oddity is that if I create the ZIP archive using the file path for the FileInputStream and view the ZIP file using a HEX editor the entire path is being stored including the drive letter. But if you view the file using WinZip the path field seems to be removing the drive letter and only displaying the path. On top of that, even though the drive letter is contained in the archive if you unzip the file using WinZip it ignores the drive letter and unzips the file to whatever drive the archive is located on. In the grand scheme of things it makes sense for WinZip to ignore the drive letter.
    Thanks for you help anyways.

  • Problem with creating site from another computer!

    Hi
    I have WebDB 2.2 and Oracle8i instaled on the same computer. I have a problem to create site from another computer. There is not any process when I try to create site. There is always 0%.
    But I have no problem with creating site on the origin computer.
    Does anybody know something about it?

    I am just not clear what to do once I have made changes and have published the new information.
    You shouldn't have to do anything. iWeb will save the information in the Domain.sites file. You can keep this file in a folder, or even on your desktop and iWeb will launch from a double-click on the file.

  • Problem with creating chapter-markers

    Hi everyone,
    as the title already says it, I've got a problem with creating chapter markers in Quicktime Pro 7.6.4. There's something wrong with the font, displayed in Quicktime. The problem first appeared a few days ago. Before this, everything went fine and I don't have a clue what causes the problem.
    Please click HERE to see a screen-recording of the steps I do to create chapters:
    - convert the chapters into unformatted text and save it as Unicode (UTF-16) text file.
    - open it in Quicktime and everything (including the german umlauts) is displayed correct.
    - export it into a Text-file with description
    when I open the new text file in Quicktime, the fonts are displayed in asian letters, but when I view it in the Texteditor, the text is almost correct, BUT the umlauts are not ok. So I go on with...
    - correct the umlauts and save a new file as Unicode (UTF-16) again.
    After I open the new file in Quicktime, the text is completely gone. As the text file seems to be ok in the Texteditor, I guess there must be something wrong with Quicktime. I tried to reinstall Quicktime 7 from the "Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard" Installation-Disc, but the problem persists.
    I' would appreciate any help...
    Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Michael

    I'm having the exact same issue. I have created my movie in IMovie 09 then under the "share " menu I sent the movie to iDVD. Everything looks fine on screen, but all I get on the final product is the movie.
    After digging deeper into the tutorials all they show is dragging a movie into the idvd shell, not sharing via imovie.
    Thus I'm currently attempting to create a quicktime movie then drag it into the IDVD shell. I think that way the chapter markers and everything should show up and burnt into the final project. I'm guessing the "share" option with the IDVD from iMovie doesn't work properly???
