Problem with dashboard prompt initial value (OBIEE 11g)

Hi alli,
I have a problem with dashboard prompt and session variable in OBIEE 11g.
I have declared a session non-system variable which I set/change with dashboard prompt. At login the variable is initialized in initialization block that gets a value from an SQL select statement.
When I change the value in prompt, the session variable changes accordingly, as it should (change is made by calling function NQSSetSessionValue() within javascript function). While I am in my dashboard, cruising around pages the variable stays the same, and when I return to the page that has prompt on it, the correct value is shown. Everything works fine.
The problem occures when I go to Catalog (in presentation services) to create some new Answers. When I return back to the same page in dashboard (which has a prompt), the prompt selected value and session variable are set back to the default value. It looks like the initialization block is executed again.
My prompt is configured like this:
- Choice List Values: SQL Results
- Default selection: Variable Expression (@{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.VariableName']} )
- Set a variable: Presentation Variable
Is there a way to stop the initialization block from executing again? Isn't it logical that the initialization block executes only at login, when the session variable is empty? I don't need it to execute every time i come to the dashboard.
Thanks in advance,
Marko

How and where do you use the nqssetvalue() function.
I tried it in several places but it doesn't work.
Can you help me, please!

  • Problems with dashboard prompts - 11.1.1.6 on Win 2008 64 bit

    Hi, I'm just curious if anyone who is using / testing 11.1.1.6 on a 64 bit Windows 2008 environment is having issues with dashboard prompts.
    I'm seeing issues where dashboard prompts are showing up with a NULL option - i.e. if a dimension has values A, B, and C, I see the prompt showing up as:
    NULL
    A
    B
    C
    There are NOT nulls in the data, and I can see that the related query is only returning 3 rows. It feels like something is broken with 11.1.1.6, but just curious if others are seeing this.
    BTW, this happens with all types of prompts - check boxes, radio buttons, choice lists, etc. But strangely it doesn't seem to happen with the "sample" data - not sure if it's because it's from XML instead of database?
    Thx,
    Scott

    Nico - I owe you a ton, that's exactly the problem. So the workaround is for me to set everything to not allow NULLs in the physical layer - kind of a pain, but management.
    Having said that - do you have any idea WHY this would happen? Just because a column CAN have a NULL, why would OBIEE automatically display a NULL in the prompt, even when one doesn't exist? After all, this column could also have "Nico" or "Scott" in it...and it isn't displaying those?????
    Wonder if this has something to do with the new "buttonless" prompts. Or maybe I'm just missing something obvious...
    Thanks!!!

  • Issue with Dashboard Prompt passing value to Presentation Variable

    I have 2 tabular reports that grab 2 variables respectively: @Month and @Year.
    The reports work fine.
    My issues is that to compute the most recent month & year, so I can pass the values to the 2 variables mentioned above, I have a dashboard prompt on the same page as the 2 reports. In the dashboard prompts (Edit Box types), I have SQL in the "Default" that computes the most recent month & year. This logic also works perfectly when you preview the results of the prompt.
    My issue is that when I land on the page, it seems that the month & year prompts are not computing. I have an old value of "Dec" "2009" instead of "May" "2010".
    It seems the Default SQL logic is NOT running on its own? As an aside, we do our development in a test environment and the catalog is promoted to production nightly. The "Dec" and "2009" I see is the correct value for the test environment, so it looks as if the defaul values are just being migrated with the catalog, but then the SQL to compute the latest values of the 2 propmts are never executing when the user lands on the page? Thus everyone sees Dec 2009 data instead of May 2010...Help!

  • Problems with date in procedure on Oracle 11g

    Hi gurus,
    I have some problems with the date format on Oracle 11g.
    Let me explain the situation:
    When I am starting a request like
    select to_number(to_char(to_date('01.04.2009','dd.mm.yyyy'), 'yyyy'))
    from sys.dual
    I got as result 2009 as number.
    When I do the same in a procedure of a package like this
    my_year := to_number(to_char(to_date('01.04.2009','dd.mm.yyyy'), 'yyyy'));
    the variable my_year contains the value 9 instead of 2009.
    Can someone explain me what's going wrong?
    I have just tested with changing the environment variable nls_date_format for the session and for the complete database with no success.
    Regards,
    Björn

    Thank you all for your replies so far:
    @Alex: You are right, using your short script in sqlplus gives me also 2009 as result
    So, I am now posting the essential excerpts of the procedure because the whole one is to large:
    function insert_szrl (my_fremd_name varchar, my_elementadresse varchar,
    my_zeitstempel varchar, my_wert float,
    my_status varchar, my_zyklus varchar,
    my_offset integer,
    my_quelle varchar, my_nzm_daten integer) return integer is
    begin
    my_date := to_date (substr (my_zeitstempel, 1, 10), 'dd.mm.yyyy') + my_tageswechsel +1/24;
    if my_zyklus = 'mm' then
    my_zeitstempeldate := add_months(to_date(last_day(to_date(my_date, 'dd.mm.yyyy')), 'dd.mm.yyyy'),-1) +1 + (my_tageswechsel+1/24);
    my_days := to_date(last_day(to_date(my_date, 'dd.mm.yyyy')), 'dd.mm.yyyy') - add_months(to_date(last_day(to_date(my_date, 'dd.mm.yyyy')), 'dd.mm.yyyy'),-1);
    my_year := to_number(to_char(to_date(my_date,'dd.mm.yyyy'), 'yyyy'));
    ptime.umschalttage_tuned (my_year, my_ws, my_sw);
    end if;
    While debugging the complete procedure I see since the start only a date which looks like '01.04.2009 07:00:00'

  • Stacked 100% bar chart - Problem with datatips for zero value data points

    I have a stacked 100% bar chart that shows datatips in Flex 4.   However, I don't want it to show datatips for

    Here's the code that illustrates this problem.    Of particular concern is the July bar.    Because of the zero value data point problem, it's not possible to see the datatip for "aaa".
    Any ideas on how we can hide/remove the datatips for zero value data points ?        Thanks.

  • OBIEE 10g Dashboard Prompt Multiple Values

    A dashboard prompt is applied to filter on Regions, however the issue we're facing is that the region values show up multiple times (1000's). We want to show each value once and I read about 2 solutions:
    1) Apply a select distinct SQL on the prompt - This does not work for us since the region is also a key field in the drill down (region consists out of states), the drill down overrules the select distinct and the prompt still shows multiple values. Any ideas?
    2) Apply a cast to char on the dashboard prompt field - The values show up only once, however now the dashboard prompt does not get applied to the reports. Looking at the SQL nothing seems to come back from the database. This might have to do with the fact that the region data type in the business layer is VARCHAR with a max of 30, thoughts? I tried updating the cast to varchar(30) but that had no effect.
    The cast sql is simple and looks like this:
    SELECT CAST ("zzz"."Region" as char) FROM ...
    Hopefully anyone can help us with this problem. Thanks!

    Thanks for the tips!
    1. No, it does not happen when the column is the only item in a report
    2a. I updated the cast to a varchar and added the distinct because that seemed easier than changing the field types in the rpd. The new SQL looks like this:
    SELECT DISTINCT CAST("zzz.Region" AS varchar(10)) FROM ...
    2b. Also joining to a table with extra region information (the sequence how we present the values to the customer) provided unique values:
    Select "zzz.Region" FROM ... ORDER BY "zzz."Region Sequence"
    With both solution we force OBIEE to execute the SQL differently so that the key field in the dimension does not throw off the numbers

  • Direct Database Request with Dashboard Prompt LOV Source

    I have complex Direct Database Request query having Dashboard Prompt. In Dashboard prompt I want to have LOV. But to create the DPrompt having LOV, I must have the table/column in Subject Area. How I can have table in RPD not connected or joined with any table in RPD?
    The idea is to do the reporting based on direct query with Prompt/LOV but do not want to include the prompt source table with other my main logical model which is used for other purpose.

    Hi Kishore
    Thanks for the reply but it is little less clear because I already have working Dashboard level prompt where
    1. Instead of LOV I type the value, use the Presentation Variable as Set Variable on Dashboard Prompt, say pDepartment
    2. Created direct database rqeuest query having where condition .. WHERE Department= '@{pDepartment}'
    And the above Dashboard works great. Only problem is that I want to have LOV for Department for which I need to have the respective table/column in RPD
    I liked your idea about BI publisher but how do you really deploy the BI Publisher?
    Thanks

  • Can I set a Session Variable from a Dashboard Prompt, using values that are

    Hi All
    Trying to set a Session Variable to an integer value, by letting users select a text value from the drop-down list on a Dashboard Prompt. The goal is to set the input parameter to the IndexCol function, but to provide the end users with a text description of what they are setting.
    Select Value Set Variable Value
    My 0
    My Team 1
    My Companies 2
    My Teams Companies 3
    Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Certainly we could populate the drop-down from a data source, however I don't see how to populate a variable with something other than the values on the screen.
    The IndexCol function is referenced in a Filter in Answers, and I'm thinking to populate a Session variable using the (Presentation) variable value set from the prompt. But how to do this? I see a reference to a function NQSSetSessionValue(), but cannot find documentation on how it works.
    Any clue will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi kishore..
    Looks like the link u have sent uses advanced SQL tab to set session variables. I want to know if I can use "set variable NQ_SESSION.myvar= @something" in the "SQL results" -while creating a dashboard prompt-.
    Purpose: I want the session variable to be set based on whatever report that im currently in.
    And i dont want to use presentation variables because im using a reset button in my page.
    My reset script resets presentation variables and NOT session variables.
    Thanks in advance

  • Issue with Skip Level Hierarchy in OBIEE 11g

    Hi,
    I have implemented Ragged and Skip Level Hierarchy as explained in the links below in OBIEE 11g RPD.
    (checked the 'Ragged' and 'Skipped Levels' check boxes)
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/07/obiee-11gr1-support-for-ragged-skip-level-value-based-hierarchies/
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/bi.1111/e10540/dimensions.htm#BABFBBFG
    When the Presentation Hierarchy is dragged in the OBI Answers, the leaf level beyond the skip (null) levels is not shown in the report.
    When any level finds intermediate null values, OBIEE is failing to show the existing value of the leaf level (Most Granular Level) or any values after Skipped Levels.
    For example, following is the values in database for different levels of department hierarchy.
    A -> B -> C -> Null -> Null -> F
    The OBIEE Presentation Hierarchy can only drill down till C, not beyond that. (does not show the leaf level value 'F').
    Could you please suggest whether I am missing any step?
    Thanks.

    Hi, My problem is that in my report it is showing me that levels as -- A -> B -> C -> Null -> Null -> F, however I want to show data as A -> B -> C -> F, i.e the null valus(columns) should be skipped. Please help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Deepak

  • Dashboard Prompt using values not from the table

    Hi,
    I have a requirement from the client to design a dashboard report like the following.
    Dashboard prompt will have 4 filters, three filters come from the table, but the fourth filter will have 3 values not from the table. The fourth filter will have values like "Report with Sales Amount", "Report with Purchase Amount", "Report with both Purchase and Sales". I have three different Table reports designed for each of the fourth filter choices. But how do I implement it, both in the dashboard prompt as well as navigating to the rite report based on the selection.
    Is my approach correct.
    Thanks for your time and help.

    The fourth prompt where you have "Report with Sales Amount", "Report with Purchase Amount", "Report with both Purchase and Sales" you pull a dummy column into the prompt and write a sql in show.
    would be something like
    SELECT Case when 1=0 then "Dimension- Customer"."Cust Name" else 'Report with Sales Amount' end FROM Sales UNION SELECT Case when 1=0 then "Dimension- Customer"."Cust Name" else 'Report with Purchase Amount' end FROM Sales
    and in the prompt set a presentation variable say var_criteria
    Now create report2 for with a some randomn column and another column will have the values that you want to display for example 'Report with Sales Amount'
    Create a filter on the 2nd column and reference the presentation variable var_criteria and default it to 'Report with Sales Amount'
    On the dashboard page in the section place the report and enable guided navigatoin by selecting report 2.
    Please let me know if you have any questions.
    thanks,
    deep

  • Problem with inheritance and outputting values in toString.

    Hey guys, i'm having a major problem with inheritances.
    What i'm trying to do with my program is to create objects in my demo class. Values are passed to several other objects that each do their own calculations of grades and results and then outputs the result in my toString. I followed step by step the instructions in my book on how to setup the inheritance and such. I can only output everything that was created in my superclass, any other thing that was created in an object that belongs to a subclass does not display in the output at all.
    Even if I change or create new instance variables, I can't figure out for the life of myself how to output the other values.
    Because there's so much code to be splitting on the forums, I zipped my whole project in a RAR. I'll link it here
    http://www.4shared.com/file/ZleBitzP/Assign7.html
    The file to run the program is CourseGradesDemo class, everything else is either a subclass or superclass to some part of the program. After you run CourseGradesDemo, you will see the output, and understand what displays and what stays at 0.0 value. If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance.

    Not gonna happen. Provide an [url http://sscce.org]SSCCE. And don't say you can't. You definitely can. You may have to spend an hour building a new program from scratch and getting it to reproduce the problem, but if you can't or won't do that, you'll find few people here willing to bother with it.

  • Problem with QofQ and Null Values

    Just converted from CF5 to CF7. Finally figured out what was
    causing the error message :
    "The value "" cannot be converted to a number" when running a
    QofQ. It happens whenever there is a NULL (and I think a ZERO)
    value in the QofQ. I'm using the QofQ in a seperate chart program.
    The main query merges data from a store and a region table.
    I'm doing a LEFT OUTER JOIN to combine the REGION with the STORE,
    AND so that stores with NO SALES for a given day will show up as
    ZERO. On the main report, when I don't use a QofQWhen grouping by
    DAY or MONTH, I can test the value in the CFOUTPUT for NULL or ZERO
    and display "0" or "N/A" on the report.
    But when I try to chart it, using a QofQ to read in the
    values from the main query, and format the numbers, I get this
    error message. I've tried using the CAST function, using FLOAT,
    DOUBLE, BIGINT, etc., but still get same error message.
    The only way I could fix this is to add a WHERE statement to
    the QofQ, that only includes sales values greater than ZERO. But
    then, I have gaps in my chart because stores with NO SALES for a
    given day or MONTH don't appear. Because they are removed from the
    query. The whole point of LEFT JOINS is to include items with no
    values (or NULL) values.
    Does anyone know if it's possible to keep these values in a
    QofQ? So that items (e.g., store locations in my case) with NULL or
    ZERO values for some or all days or months can be charted? Even
    with a ZERO value? I've read everything I can get my hands on
    regarding QofQ, the CAST function, etc., but nothing seems to work.
    Thanks for any help. (FYI, didn't have this problem with CF5. It's
    QofQ could handle NULL or ZERO values without providing an error).
    Gary

    Well, I tried the IsNull function on the 3 SUM() values I was
    calculating in my SELECT statement (on a LEFT OUTER JOIN QUERY),
    and I STILL got another "cannot convert "" to a number" but this
    time the error message was more direct, and pointed me to a DATE
    field in my query, where I was SORTING AND GROUPING either by DAY
    or MONTH (depending on what user selected on form).
    In my QofQ, I'm not just reformating the integer SUM()
    values, but also the date values. So, I applied the IsNull()
    function to the DATE values in my main query. I still kept getting
    errors. But after experimenting ((SQL Server BOL docs doesn't give
    ISNULL() examples for DATE FIELDS, only NUMBER fields), I tried
    putting the dates in SINGLE QUOTES in my IsNull() function, the
    QUERY RAN. Then I wasn't sure WHAT date to enter, e.g., 1/1/1889 or
    1/1/2001, etc.
    Then, I discovered, after experimenting, that you cannot just
    blindly enter ANY date when using IsNull in a date field,
    especially if you are using CFGRAPH to chart the results by day.
    You have to select a date within the date range the user selected,
    so this means using the FORM.DATE (or URL.DATE) value from the
    form. Here's the working example from my SELECT main query:
    SELECT SUM(ISNULL(d.ttldb,0)) AS SumOfDB,
    SUM(ISNULL(d.ttldbv,0)) AS SumOfDBV,
    SUM(ISNULL(d.ttldbi,0)) AS SumOfDBI,
    <CFIF '#url.reptype#' IS "DAILY">
    ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date1#') AS depday
    <CFELSE>
    month(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')) AS TranMonth,
    year(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')) AS TranYear
    </CFIF>
    Then I discovered that whatever date was used in the URL.DATE
    field (in my case it would be one of the two date field from the
    form, and depended on whether you coded DATE1 or DATE2, the chart
    would always show ZERO values for that date. So I tried putting the
    IsNull() date values in the GROUP BY and ORDER BY statements, e.g.,
    <CFIF '#url.reptype#' IS "DAILY">
    GROUP BY ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date1#')
    ORDER BY ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date1#') DESC
    <CFELSE>
    GROUP BY year(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')),
    month(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#'))
    ORDER BY year(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#')),
    month(ISNULL(d.depday, '#url.date2#'))
    </CFIF>
    And this worked. The report ran just fine, and the chart
    charted every value correctly.
    I guess you have to learn all the little "quirks" about CF7
    and how it's QofQ and chart programs work. But so far, so good.
    Thank you all for your help. Now I've got to update other old
    CF5 programs that are returning errors when there are null values
    from my LEFT OUTER JOIN queries. Will take some time, but at least
    I know how to do it. Thanks to your help.
    I really appreciate your time and efforts to help with this
    issue.

  • HT6065 I installed this update.  I have never had problems with "multiple prompts to unlock "Local items" keychain" until after I installed this update.  Now, I can't get it to STOP prompting me.

    (1) com.apple.iCloudHelper wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
    (2) CalendarAgent wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
    (3) AddressBookSourceSync wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.
    I can enter my login password and the prompt goes away for a little while, but eventually returns.  Or I can click on "Cancel" many multiple times and it goes away for a little while, but returns again.
    I want a solution too and hope this additional information will help.

  • Some problems in dashboard prompt

    Hi,
    I have a requirement about prompt with report response,
    There is a Year prompt, the value of year is '2010','2011' and '(Null)' ,because there is a NULL in year column in DB, so '(Null)' is displayed in prompt,
    the report has only one column that is year,but this year column is not the same column as the prompt,only the value is the same.
    What I have to realized is
    the first time I went into this page, the prompt is blank, but the report will show all data,namely,'2010','2011' and null value(blank value),
    when I choose All choices,the report also will show '2010','2011' and null value(blank value),
    when I choose 2010,the report will show 2010,
    when I choose 2011,the report will show 2011,
    when I choose '(Null)',the report will show only one row that is blank.
    Any solution???
    Thank you!

    Alpha,
    You can never get this working unless you satisfy normal sql join.
    For eg: A.col = B.col
    This join will always fail for NULL values..
    2 Options to solve this:
    1) Database Level: Update all null values to specific value like 'NA'
    Or
    2) In your RPD physical use:
    IFNULL(A.col,'NA') = IFNULL(B.col, 'NA')
    Users need to select NA from dropdown to show NA records...Display a static message saying NA is actually NULL values
    Hope you are clear with your funda...

  • XMLP Parameter And BIEE Dashboard Prompt "All Values"

    Hi Gurus,
    I want to insert a XMLP Report in the BIEE Dashboard and use a Dashboard Prompt as parameter in the Report.
    There is a way to use the "All Values" value of the prompt?
    I write a XMLP data model as:
    select dim_1.Attribute as Dim from BIEESubjectArea where dim_1.Attribute = :Parameter;
    Parameter is return by the BIEE Dashboard.
    It works for all different value of the Parameter but not if I select the "All Values"
    There is a way to make it works?
    Regards,
    Daniele

    Hello Daniele,
    When 'All Values' is selected (for Show), it basically displays all values avaliable for the parameter. Are you talking about 'All Choices' option? Selecting 'All Choices' will pass null values and you would have to modify your answers filter to accomodate that.
    Take a look at the following: http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/04/detecting-all-choices-from-dashboard.html
    Hope that helps!
