OBIEE 10g Dashboard Prompt Multiple Values

A dashboard prompt is applied to filter on Regions, however the issue we're facing is that the region values show up multiple times (1000's). We want to show each value once and I read about 2 solutions:
1) Apply a select distinct SQL on the prompt - This does not work for us since the region is also a key field in the drill down (region consists out of states), the drill down overrules the select distinct and the prompt still shows multiple values. Any ideas?
2) Apply a cast to char on the dashboard prompt field - The values show up only once, however now the dashboard prompt does not get applied to the reports. Looking at the SQL nothing seems to come back from the database. This might have to do with the fact that the region data type in the business layer is VARCHAR with a max of 30, thoughts? I tried updating the cast to varchar(30) but that had no effect.
The cast sql is simple and looks like this:
SELECT CAST ("zzz"."Region" as char) FROM ...
Hopefully anyone can help us with this problem. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips!
1. No, it does not happen when the column is the only item in a report
2a. I updated the cast to a varchar and added the distinct because that seemed easier than changing the field types in the rpd. The new SQL looks like this:
SELECT DISTINCT CAST("zzz.Region" AS varchar(10)) FROM ...
2b. Also joining to a table with extra region information (the sequence how we present the values to the customer) provided unique values:
Select "zzz.Region" FROM ... ORDER BY "zzz."Region Sequence"
With both solution we force OBIEE to execute the SQL differently so that the key field in the dimension does not throw off the numbers

  • Constraint not working in OBIEE 10G Dashboard prompt

    Hi All,
We are facing a issue in constraint in dashboard prompt.
We have two database tables Employee and Calender. Both are joined through time_id key.
We have made a report from coloumns of both.
We have made dashboard prompt consisting of 3 coloums i.e.
    Month-YEAR,
    Week Ending,
    Shift Date
First two are from same employee table and Shift date is from calender.
Both dimensions are also in Awnsers as it is.
All 3 prompts are multiselect. Constraint box is checked in all.
Issue is that, When I select a Month-Year in prompt, Corresponding 4 or 5 weekendings comes in multiselect box.
But when i select a week ending from here, i don't get corresponding Seven dates for that particular week.
Instead all shift dates available there in calender table comes in multiselect.
Does constraint don't work on coloums of different dimensions or tables?
Any body , Please reply with a possible solution.
    Regards,
    Apurv Mishra

    Thanks @786372 for your response..
But, If we will make view for those coloums , then how can we apply ''Is Prompted" for prompted coloum in our report filters.
As per my understanding, to make ''Is Prompted '' work , Fx (coloum formula) should be same in report and prompt.
So, how can we create a different view only for prompt.
We may use presentation variable to make above work, i won't be able to create multi-select prompt.

  • Strange behaviour of OBIEE 10g dashboard prompt

    Hi BI gurus
My inventory Dashboard page has a multiselect Status Prompt which is throwing up a strange issue.
When selected all values i.e using << button from Status prompt and clicked on OK then it gets refreshed by itself and all the values from selected area gets back to the selection area and the dashboard page diaplays the status prompt with no values where as if all the values are selected one by one and clicked on OK then the prompt behave as expected. Is it a bug?

I would suggest to delete this and create a new one or else check with other prompts.
Also check the session log for the prompt.

  • OBIEE 11g Dashboard Prompt Reset Button Functionality

    Dear Experts,
Can anyone explain what is the exact functionality of 'Reset' Button in any OBIEE 11g Dashboard Prompt.
If anyone found any documentation related to it... please let me know.
    thanks,
    Varun

    Hi Varun,
This is the functionality of Reset button,
Reset will go back to last applied values. It does not clear values. Currently the Reset button works in the following ways:
if 1) the prompt is blank 2) select some value, 3) reset 4) it should go back to blank.
if 1) the prompt is blank 2) select some value, 3) apply 4) reset. 5) it should NOT to back to blank. actually it does not change anything.
if 1) the prompt is blank 2) select some value, 3) apply 4) change any values 5) reset. 6) it should undo any changes in step 4.

  • Problem with dashboard prompt initial value (OBIEE 11g)

    Hi alli,
I have a problem with dashboard prompt and session variable in OBIEE 11g.
I have declared a session non-system variable which I set/change with dashboard prompt. At login the variable is initialized in initialization block that gets a value from an SQL select statement.
When I change the value in prompt, the session variable changes accordingly, as it should (change is made by calling function NQSSetSessionValue() within javascript function). While I am in my dashboard, cruising around pages the variable stays the same, and when I return to the page that has prompt on it, the correct value is shown. Everything works fine.
The problem occures when I go to Catalog (in presentation services) to create some new Answers. When I return back to the same page in dashboard (which has a prompt), the prompt selected value and session variable are set back to the default value. It looks like the initialization block is executed again.
My prompt is configured like this:
    - Choice List Values: SQL Results
    - Default selection: Variable Expression (@{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.VariableName']} )
    - Set a variable: Presentation Variable
Is there a way to stop the initialization block from executing again? Isn't it logical that the initialization block executes only at login, when the session variable is empty? I don't need it to execute every time i come to the dashboard.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marko

How and where do you use the nqssetvalue() function.
I tried it in several places but it doesn't work.
    Can you help me, please!

  • OBIEE 11g - Dashboard Prompts - Radio Buttons

I have a report where I need to run 3 different ways based on the same filter with different values. Each way has multiple values. I was hoping to create a Dashboard prompt as a radion button to allow the user to select which variation of the report to run. I would like the radio button to pass the multiple values to the filter based on the user's selection. Does anybody know if this is possible? If not, is there another reccommended way. I would prefer not to save three versions of the same report with the only difference being a filter. Also, I would prefer for the users not to have to select multiple values each time they run report depending on the version they want to run.
    Thanks,
    William

You create the dummy report with appropriate number of columns for filtering using combine request. Each request in this complex report will correspond a choosing in a radio button prompt. In a main report for every filtering column you need to use option 'results are based on another request'.

  • Can I set a Session Variable from a Dashboard Prompt, using values that are

    Hi All
Trying to set a Session Variable to an integer value, by letting users select a text value from the drop-down list on a Dashboard Prompt. The goal is to set the input parameter to the IndexCol function, but to provide the end users with a text description of what they are setting.
    Select Value Set Variable Value
    My 0
    My Team 1
    My Companies 2
    My Teams Companies 3
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Certainly we could populate the drop-down from a data source, however I don't see how to populate a variable with something other than the values on the screen.
The IndexCol function is referenced in a Filter in Answers, and I'm thinking to populate a Session variable using the (Presentation) variable value set from the prompt. But how to do this? I see a reference to a function NQSSetSessionValue(), but cannot find documentation on how it works.
Any clue will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi kishore..
Looks like the link u have sent uses advanced SQL tab to set session variables. I want to know if I can use "set variable NQ_SESSION.myvar= @something" in the "SQL results" -while creating a dashboard prompt-.
Purpose: I want the session variable to be set based on whatever report that im currently in.
And i dont want to use presentation variables because im using a reset button in my page.
My reset script resets presentation variables and NOT session variables.
    Thanks in advance

  • Adding 'All' filter in Obiee 11g dashboard prompt

    Hi All,
    I am using ver 11.1.1.5
My requirement is to see all data in dashboard prompt as well as there should be another item its 'ALL' which return the all data.
    Example:
There is a dashboard filter on a field type (like: Value1,Value2) , our client want to see the data on filter (like: ALL,Value1,Value2) the ALL will filter the boat Value1and Value2.
    Please explain with steps.

You have to go with SQL Results in the prompt something like below.
The 2nd statement can be other way so that its return all values..
Make sure that similar you have in report too so that you get all values for ALL
    SELECT COL1 FROM "SA"
    Union
SELECT CASE WHEN COL1 IS NOT NULL THEN 'ALL' ELSE COL1 END FROM "SA"
instead of not null you may go for like '%'

  • OBIEE 11g Dashboard Prompts

    Hi,
I need some help on possible designs for dashboard prompts. We have a number of prompts which are based on SQL Results (custom query) in some dashboards. Unfortunately obi cannot "Limit values by" or constrain values returned by the selected values of another prompt.
My questions is what solutions have you tried & implemented to constraint the values returned by the selection values of another prompt when using SQL Results prompt?
    Thanks in advance
    Phil

    Hi,
What we tried is having a presentation variable for the first prompt and according to the value of the first prompt, second prompt will show values.
    For example,
    First prompt has a presentation variable as @{first_prompt}
    Second prompt has sql results as -SELECT "dim1_column1" from sh where "dim1_column2"=@{first_prompt}
    Hope this helps.

  • Issue with Dashboard Prompt passing value to Presentation Variable

I have 2 tabular reports that grab 2 variables respectively: @Month and @Year.
    The reports work fine.
My issues is that to compute the most recent month & year, so I can pass the values to the 2 variables mentioned above, I have a dashboard prompt on the same page as the 2 reports. In the dashboard prompts (Edit Box types), I have SQL in the "Default" that computes the most recent month & year. This logic also works perfectly when you preview the results of the prompt.
My issue is that when I land on the page, it seems that the month & year prompts are not computing. I have an old value of "Dec" "2009" instead of "May" "2010".
It seems the Default SQL logic is NOT running on its own? As an aside, we do our development in a test environment and the catalog is promoted to production nightly. The "Dec" and "2009" I see is the correct value for the test environment, so it looks as if the defaul values are just being migrated with the catalog, but then the SQL to compute the latest values of the 2 propmts are never executing when the user lands on the page? Thus everyone sees Dec 2009 data instead of May 2010...Help!

  • Dashboard Prompt using values not from the table

    Hi,
I have a requirement from the client to design a dashboard report like the following.
Dashboard prompt will have 4 filters, three filters come from the table, but the fourth filter will have 3 values not from the table. The fourth filter will have values like "Report with Sales Amount", "Report with Purchase Amount", "Report with both Purchase and Sales". I have three different Table reports designed for each of the fourth filter choices. But how do I implement it, both in the dashboard prompt as well as navigating to the rite report based on the selection.
    Is my approach correct.
Thanks for your time and help.

The fourth prompt where you have "Report with Sales Amount", "Report with Purchase Amount", "Report with both Purchase and Sales" you pull a dummy column into the prompt and write a sql in show.
    would be something like
SELECT Case when 1=0 then "Dimension- Customer"."Cust Name" else 'Report with Sales Amount' end FROM Sales UNION SELECT Case when 1=0 then "Dimension- Customer"."Cust Name" else 'Report with Purchase Amount' end FROM Sales
and in the prompt set a presentation variable say var_criteria
Now create report2 for with a some randomn column and another column will have the values that you want to display for example 'Report with Sales Amount'
Create a filter on the 2nd column and reference the presentation variable var_criteria and default it to 'Report with Sales Amount'
On the dashboard page in the section place the report and enable guided navigatoin by selecting report 2.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
    thanks,

  • XMLP Parameter And BIEE Dashboard Prompt "All Values"

    Hi Gurus,
I want to insert a XMLP Report in the BIEE Dashboard and use a Dashboard Prompt as parameter in the Report.
There is a way to use the "All Values" value of the prompt?
I write a XMLP data model as:
    select dim_1.Attribute as Dim from BIEESubjectArea where dim_1.Attribute = :Parameter;
Parameter is return by the BIEE Dashboard.
It works for all different value of the Parameter but not if I select the "All Values"
There is a way to make it works?
    Regards,
    Daniele

    Hello Daniele,
When 'All Values' is selected (for Show), it basically displays all values avaliable for the parameter. Are you talking about 'All Choices' option? Selecting 'All Choices' will pass null values and you would have to modify your answers filter to accomodate that.
Take a look at the following: http://108obiee.blogspot.com/2009/04/detecting-all-choices-from-dashboard.html
    Hope that helps!

  • OBIEE 11g Dashboard Prompts can be  selected sequencely (unhide/hide)

    Hi,
I want to show dashboard prompt sequencely. The user completed one of dashboard prompt the other prompts can be hide.
How can I make a relationship between dashboard prompts for selection the prompts one by one?
    Do you have any suggestions?
    thank your replies.

Thanks. I would need only ONE Clarification.
the Fact table has data at Date Level. For Example,
    Date Revenue Stage
    20120101 123.98 1a
    20120302 178.965 1b
    20120401 768.99 1c
The report should contain the following columns based on date range selection:- Start Date & End Date
    Start_Date_Revenue End_Date_Revenue Start_Date_Stage End_Date_Stage
So, I have used FILTER(Revenue using Date = 'Presentation Variable for Start Date') & FILTER(Revenue using Date = 'Presentation Variable for End Date') for Revenue Calculation.
Similarly, is there any way to retrieve the stage columns data for each date and show it in report?
Note:_ I have tried the filter function for Dimension Column to bring Stage but it works only for Measure Column

  • View pdf or doc reports in obiee 10g dashboard

    Hi,
Is it possible to view reports which are saved in pdf or doc format to view in dashboard.
We have some static reports which are in pdf format. How to view those reports in dashboard, like by using link or image etc..?
    Thanks.

    Dear Amith,
    Thanks for your reply.
I need to embed the pdf document not just image.
The report generated for last month will be saved in pdf. The pdf will be paced in installed obiee folders. Now this report need to be embed in dashboard. On clicking a link or something the saved pdf should open in new window or in dashboard, so that no need of report generation based on lastmonth once again.
    Thanks.
