Problem with JBoss startup in a zone

Hi!
I try to run JBoss inside a sparse-root zone, but encounter a problem during startup, it simply stucks always at a certain point.
This is how the zone is configured:
root@mantis:/usr/local/Dtrace # zonecfg -z setam-test
zonecfg:setam-test> info
zonepath: /var/zone/setam-test
autoboot: true
pool:
inherit-pkg-dir:
dir: /lib
inherit-pkg-dir:
dir: /platform
inherit-pkg-dir:
dir: /sbin
inherit-pkg-dir:
dir: /usr
fs:
dir: /usr/local
special: /var/zone/setam-test
raw not specified
type: lofs
options: []
net:
address: 172.16.14.5
physical: bge0
During startup ( bin/startserver.sh ) I watch the server.log with tail -f, but here it comes: the output stopps always at the RMIAdaptor - like
2006-10-17 11:12:37,810 DEBUG [org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer] Begin deployment start file:/opt/jboss-4.0.2/server/btv/deploy/jmx-invoker-service.xml
2006-10-17 11:12:37,811 DEBUG [org.jboss.deployment.SARDeployer] Deploying SAR, start step: url file:/opt/jboss-4.0.2/server/btv/deploy/jmx-invoker-service.xml
2006-10-17 11:12:37,811 DEBUG [org.jboss.system.ServiceController] starting service jboss.jmx:type=adaptor,name=Invoker,protocol=jrmp,service=proxyFactory
2006-10-17 11:12:37,812 DEBUG [org.jboss.system.ServiceController] waiting in start jboss.jmx:type=adaptor,name=Invoker,protocol=jrmp,service=proxyFactory on jboss.jmx:type=adaptor,name=Invoker
2006-10-17 11:12:37,812 DEBUG [org.jboss.system.ServiceController] starting service jboss.jmx:alias=jmx/rmi/RMIAdaptor
2006-10-17 11:12:37,812 DEBUG [org.jboss.naming.NamingAlias] Starting jboss.jmx:alias=jmx/rmi/RMIAdaptor
Here I can wait for minutes, nothing else follows. At the end I kill the java process.
I'm definitely no JBoss expert, and I wonder what RMIAdaptor does or what it expects. I assume it tries to initialize something and is not allowed to (?).
My question is: besides of truss or Dtrace, how should I diagnose this symptom at first hand?
Thanks ... Nick

My colleague found the answer: he had disabled the default registration rule. Once enabled, a quick "zac reg" worked.

  • Problem with Path Managed property in alternate zones - also we have identified problem with Product catalog in alt zones

    Hi All,
I'll start "one step back". Note we have resolved this issue but it is worth mentioning:
Yesterday we set up the product catalog. We were having a lot of inexplicable problems with it initially. After much troubleshooting, we found that it was because we were browsing the SharePoint site via the "Internet Zone" rather than the "Default
Zone" when we "Connected" our site to the product catalog. Issues experienced:
    1) "Catalog Item URL Format" displayed error "Properties <Managed Property> specified by the shared catalog could not be found in the search schema" when attempting to connect to the catalog, despite that managed property being
configured correctly. The catalog would connect despite the error, and the navigation worked fine.
    2) The search Result Source for the catalog would not return any results. Configuring the query and selecting "Advanced Mode" would show SPSiteURL:http://externalURL.domain.com. Changing SPSiteURL manually to
http://InternalURL resulted in results being returned as expected.
After much troubleshooting, we found that if were browsing SharePoint using the default zone (http://InternalURL) when we connected the Product Catalog, the result source then worked properly (internally and externally).
Ok, so now onto our current problem:
The Product Catalog appeared to be working properly (internally and externally) after figuring out that we needed to connect it from the Default Zone. However, we have found a remaining glitch, which doesn't appear to be Product-Catalog-specific. Consider
    the following scenario:
    1) We click a category in our Product Catalog, such as Electronics
    2) A list of our electronic devices are presented via the "Category" display page
    3) If we click on a specific item, a different URL is returned internally vs externally. We only get the friendly managed navigation URL when browsing via the Default zone. And of course totally different pages load based on which URL you get.
Internal (when browsing via Default zone):
    http://InternalURL/catalog/PRODUCT-CATEGORY/PRODUCT-NAME
External (when browsing via Internet zone):
    http://ExternalURL.domain.com/catalog/Lists/Products/DispForm.aspx?ID=1
We have reviewed the display template, and the "Path" managed property is simply being used to render the link. Furthermore, we have configured the Content Search web part's "Property Mappings" to show the "Path" MP, and it
displays the same (wrong) result externally.
This tells us that the Path MP is not correctly rendering "Friendly URLs" when using managed navigation.
    Any help/ideas?
    Our environment:
    SharePoint Version: 15.0.4667.1000
    Default Zone: http://InternalURL
    Internet Zone: http://ExternalURL.domain.com
We are NOT using host named site collections
We ARE crawling the Default zone URL in our content source
    Thanks,
    Tommy

    Hi,
We have now also observed the same issue with a Managed Property of type “Hyperlink/Picture”. The picture returns the wrong URL externally.
This post describes the same issue, however the poster found that setting UseAAMMapping=True doesn’t work in 2013:
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/104806/set-the-useaammapping-property-of-a-managedproperty-object-map-an-url-of-a-h
We checked, and our Picture MP had UseAAMMapping=False. We set it to True, did a full crawl, and see no change in behavior. Path already had UseAAMMapping=True.

    best regards

I see mention of a similar problem, but only with early development releases of solaris10 branded zones running on Solaris 11 development bits. It seems as though this is not what you are running.
Since there are no swap caps nor brand emulation in place, the next thing I would suspect would be that you somehow have inconsistencies between key libraries (e.g. libc) and the kernel. This could happen if you have a full-root zone that has been force attached (zoneadm -z <zone> attach -F). In the past, I've seen products that do this under the covers (e.g. Veritas Cluster) so it may have happened without your knowledge. If it is a sparse root zone, you may want to run "zoneadm -z <zone> detach; zoneadm -z <zone> attach -u". Prior to doing so, take whatever precautions you would normally take when patching a system.
If you open a support call about this I bet the first advice you are going to get is to patch, as you seem to be 2+ years behind. Also, newer releases of Java 5 are available at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase5-419410.html.

  • Problems with Deployment, Startup classes and MBeanHome

    Hello,
we have the following problem: How to initialize our application
    correctly???
We are using MDBs as message consumers but have to guarantee the order of
    incoming
messages. Due to a shortcoming in the JMS implementation (Order of
    redelivered messages
is not guaranteed before WLS 8.1!!!) we are using a singleton class to keep
    the health state
of the different message queues within the application (controlling whether
    the MDBs are
supposed to proceed with processing or to discard any incoming messages).
    Thus the MDBs
have to access this singleton, what implies latter has to be initialized
    prior to the application
deployment. That's what we are using a startup class for, which is marked to
    be loaded before
    appplication deployment...
Fortunately the according bug is fixed with WLS 7.0.2.0, so the class is
    loaded, but we are
not able to access the MBeanHome interface (We like to register MBean to
    provide
adminstrative access to the health state)!!!
    javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Unable to resolve
    'weblogic.management.home.localhome' Resolved: 'weblogic.management'
    Unresolved:'home' ; remaining name 'home.localhome'
    at weblogic.rmi.internal.ServerRequest.sendReceive(ServerRequest.java:174)
So when is the MBeanServer started???
Before application deployment??? After??? Is there any way to tell WLS not
    to load the startup
class before the MBeanServer is available respectively the MBeanHome is
    accessible via JNDI
    but before application deployment???
    Any hints are welcome!!!
    Regards,
    CK

this seems like a bug. the mbeanhome should be available for lookup in
startup classes. also posting to system management newsgroup.

  • A Problem with JBoss Application

We have got a dedicated server to run our J2EE application.
I installed JBoss Server version 3.2.2 on the server and
deployed the web application(.war) in it. I can access the
web application when I remotely login to the server, and type
this URL in the browser (on the remote server machince):
    http://localhost:8080/[WEB_APPLICATION]
    http://[Dedicated_Server_IP]:8080/[WEB_APPLICATION]
However, I get error when I try this URL on my local workstation
or from any other workstation other than that of our dedicated
    server.
    http://[Dedicated_Server_IP]:8080/[WEB_APPLICATION]
Any idea what can be the reason for this problem? Any help
from any corner of the universe will be appreciated.

set the Request method to POSTI didn't tell you to do that. I asked you whether you should be doing that. Not the same thing. Maybe you should be setting it ti "PUT". I don't know. Only you can know.
String stringToReverse = URLEncoder.encode(request, "UTF-8") ;What's that for? You aren't using it anywhere.
connection.setRequestProperty("Content-Length", Integer.toString(request.length()));Don't do that. URLConnection will do that for you, and do it better.
                 for (int i = 0; i < request.length(); ++i)  {
    out.write(request.charAt(i));
    System.out.println(i);
    }Change all that to out.write(request);
If this is a post, surely there should be an argument name somewhere too? (NB again I am not hereby saying that it is a post: I'm just telling you the consequence.)
After that, you need to get the response code and read the input of the connection. Are you doing that?
In short I don't think you understand exactly what your output should be. Do you have a specification?

  • Sound check & problems with iTunes startup

I recently changed my iTunes settings to allow "sound check," which normalizes the volume of the entire iTunes library. Nothing happened at first, but the next time I opened iTunes, the little now playing window said "determining track volume: 1 of 222," and iTunes and my computer froze immediately. This has happened every single time I've tried to open iTunes since. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do, because once I open iTunes, I literally can't do anything except shut down my computer. Any ideas??

I had that problem too. Maybe it works when you change your Bitrate in Itunes. My Bluetooth speakers run at 48 Khz and after the Itunes update, Itunes changed his settings to 44.1 kHz (before the update it was also 48kHz). I hope i could help you. Sorry for bad english i'm from Germany

I have read the release notes for 9.0.1, 9.0.2, 9.0.3, 9.0.3.1 and 9.1.0 and it looks like this note that JBoss is certified "for nonclustered environments only" was added for the first time in 9.0.3.1 but only for Solaris and SUSE Linux. In 9.1.0 it seems to have been added to Windows as well.
Does anyone know why it was added? Was it added because there were problems with JBoss clustering in the previous releases? Are the 9.0.1, 9.0.2 and 9.0.3 releases still certified for JBoss clustering?

  • Problem with protocol.jar with weblogic

    atg10.0.3 and weblogic 11g on 64bit linux.
I've been plagued by this problem with ATG's protocol jar. While it loads the jar when starting up startWeblogic.sh it does not get loaded when starting a managed server thus i get the following errors:

But I cannot seem to get it included in the production.out logs when starting the managed server.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Yes I figured this out. The problem was the version of weblogic. I was using 1.3.6 when it should have been 1.3.5. After changing out the version, I no longer had problems with protocol.jar.
    Thanks!

  • After installing firefox 4.0 I've been having problems with rundll error on startup. Norton scan is finding a high risk malware.

Last week I installed firefox 4.0 beta & the next time the computer was restarted a rundll error window appeared that said windows cannot locate file. This file showed up in the startup programs. When norton finds this which is every 1 or 2 days it removes it after a restart but the error & malware comes back. I went back to firefox 3.6 but still have this problem. Can you help?
    Thanks, Dennis

It seems unusual that Norton should block and remove firefox updates. Having said that I was posting in a thread about problems with Norton a few days ago see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/789617#answer-143767 thread] ''"I down loaded fromFFox the latest down - norton 360 - stopped the down load - stated not to use it - asked to stop running the program - I click yes thinking a problem now on my other computer I cant use FFox as a Browers -"''
I use Norton (NIS) and received only a mild advisory on one Firefox update. I have Windows XP with Firefox3.6.15 & 4RC installed

Both systems are running Win XP SP2 and are behind 'walled gardens' on our LAN, a private sub-net of workstation computers with no internet access (we have office computers for browsing and e-mail).
While the two PCs are very similar, note that sound and video cards are different. Also system 2 does not yet have a Blu-ray writer.
System 1 works great with all of the Adobe apps.
System 2 experiences lengthy 'hangs' upon launch of several Adobe apps, including PhotoShop, Acrobat and, to a lesser extent, Premiere. What exactly happens is upon launch, on system #2, PhotoShop loads to the workspace, but hangs just as the palettes are being created. Time to this point, 3 seconds. Then, 60 seconds passes. The application's status in Task Manager changes to Not Responding. More time passes. Then the application comes back to life and is responsive again.
On system #1, PhotoShop is ready to use in 3 seconds following the command to launch. The 90-second delay/hang does not occur.
Logical deduction would suggest that the possible culprits are the video or sound card, these being different.
I also note that when recording and playing audio in other applications, like SoundForge and WinAMP, momentary pauses or gaps in the audio playback and recording are noted. It takes about 30 minutes of listening to encounter one such hiccup. It was also discovered that during recording, samples were dropped, during an hour-long studio recording session. There is something not quite right with system #2.
I was curious if anyone found a correlation between the Auzentech sound card and similar behavior where the app hangs and stops responding. Or anyone with the FX4600 graphics card having this problem?
What could PhotoShop, Acrobat and Premiere be doing during startup that is resulting in the apps to stop responding for a while, then return to responsive state? I have been going nuts for 4 months troubleshooting and trying to fix this problem, with no results. I've turned off nearly every Windows service, checked Adobe preferences between the two machines, speed tested the RAID 0 arrays and system drives--all seems well--in fact, the 2nd workstation has faster hard drives than the first, so maybe it is a problem with some exotic timing issue where the data is available to PhotoShop too soon and it gets confused and hangs up for a while? I'm at a loss!

I don't like the way OpenType looks on screen. I know it has some advantages, like a larger character set, but the hinting, or lack thereof, makes low resolution imagers like screens and inkjet printers produce less than great output. And my investment in Adobe fonts is in the many thousands of dollars, purchased back around 1991. I prefer PostScript fonts by a wide margin over OTF and TTF.
WRT audio card, I removed the drivers, and installed RC8, the current version, but that did not help. I did note something curious though: rebooting with no audio drivers shaved 30 seconds off the boot time! The blue 'loading your personal settings screen' that usually stays up for 35 seconds, was there for 5 seconds then right to the desktop. It was the fastest I've ever gotten to the desktop on this machine. Once I installed RC8 drivers, the loading time became long again.
I can be certain there's no file fragmentation problems. The temp drive has about half a terabyte of free space on it, and in fact, of the 2TB of system storage, only about 10% is in use (new system).
But the latency is really noticeable with Sony SoundForge 9. Start playback and the wait can be anywhere from 1-3 seconds before play begins!
On the other workstation with the TurtleBeach Montego DDL, playback is instant when I hit Play. Never a delay that's perceivable. I just don't like the way the Auzentech works. It may even be responsible for the problems I had with Premiere CS4, which I gave up on in March after a concerted struggle to solve the playback issues there. But I seem to be not the only one suffering with that anomaly. Though my underlying feeling is that something is not right with this system's hardware combination. One or more peripherals is just not playing well with the software, I suspect.

  • Problem in Blazeds with Jboss Clustering ( Mod_JK with SSL )

    Hi,
We are running our flex application in jboss clustering environment with the help of Apache mod_jk(Apache Web server as front end with mod_ssl enabled). We are using the SecureAMFChannel as we deploy the application in SSL. We use the RemoteObject for communicating with Java.
The Application is running fine when we have only one node of JBoss. But once we add one more node to the cluster the application throws the following exception .
Duplicate HTTP-based FlexSession error: A request for FlexClient 'FDCA49A7-9317-4D8A-881F-9248B1136E7A' arrived over a new FlexSession 'C9C563B8266A03C2207C00796CD7DFF1', but FlexClient is already associated with  FlexSession '8A328320F5C530D55E94568996A1B552', therefore it cannot be associated with the new session.
As I am maintaing the session in the server, I need to use the JBoss cluster for session replication. I heard that flex clustering is not needed as we have mod_jk and it will do all the stuff for us.
I checked with simple application without any session data also then too I faced the same problem.
After the very first login, I can see 2 session created simultaneously and destroyed. I checked the application whether it calls twice before the session is created, but it is calling only once.
Also when application connects with server2 and if I down the server2 my flex application throws the error that the server is not found, It is not detecting the other server. But it works once I refresh the browser.
    Application Environment Details
    JBoss 6
    Blaze Ds 4.5
    Apache Web server 2.2.21
    Mod_JK   1.2.32
    Mod_SSL 2.8.31

I enabled the sticky session in Mod_jk .
It is working when the connection is not secure(http) in both apache web server and jboss web server ). But when the connection is https the above problem is happening .

    # zoneadm -z pg_zone install
    Preparing to install zone <pg_zone>.
Creating list of files to copy from the global zone.
Copying <130101> files to the zone.
    Initializing zone product registry.
    Determining zone package initialization order.
Preparing to initialize <1059> packages on the zone.
    Initialized <1059> packages on zone.
    Zone <pg_zone> is initialized.
Installation of these packages generated errors: <SUNWgnome-a11y-libs-share>
Installation of <63> packages was skipped.
The file </export/zones/pg_zone/root/var/sadm/system/logs/install_log> contains a log of the zone installation.
When examined the logs there were several messages like this:
    SUNW_PKG_THISZONE=true in the pkginfo file.
*** package <SUNWamutl> was not installed:
The package <SUNWamutl> is registered to be installed in the
global zone only. The package may have been installed in the global
zone using the pkgadd '-G' option, or the package may contain a
request script, or the package may directly set the package attribute
    SUNW_PKG_THISZONE=true in the pkginfo file.
*** package <SUNWiimdv> was not installed:
The package <SUNWiimdv> is either not fully installed in the
global zone, or the package contains a request script. Only packages
that are fully installed in the global zone and that do not contain a
request script can be installed when a new zone is created. If this
package does not contain a request script, you can correct this
problem by removing and reinstalling the package in the global zone.
And when I try to boot the zone I get this error:
    # zoneadm -z pg_zone boot
    zoneadm: zone 'pg_zone': "/usr/lib/fs/lofs/mount -o zonedevfs /export/zones/pg_zone/dev /export/zones/pg_zone/root/dev" failed with exit code 33
zoneadm: zone 'pg_zone': call to zoneadmd failed
Any suggestion how to solve this problem?
    thanks

To answer your question wangzh: Yes I did. I actually followed exactly the procedure on the how-to-uides: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/howtoguides/containersLowRes.jsp.
I think the problem here might reside in the script supplied in the solaris distribution for creating zones. For example, in the default configuration script, the package directories /lib /platform /var and /usr are by default set to be automatically imported. But when I try to create a zone using these defaults settings, it ends up with an mounting error that prevents the installation of the zone. only when I remove manually those directories from the configuration then the installation continues.
And during the installation process there are number of packages that are by default imported via the installation script and this is some of those packages that cause the errors here. I also tried to exclude the offending packages as suggested by henryC but I couldn't find all of them and the creation still fails at the booting.

  • Startup problem with Lion OS 10.7.3

Just recently, I've been experiencing a startup problem with Lion. I don't usually have any issues running my Mac, so I'm at a loss why this is happening now.
I have an Intel Mac Pro running 10.7.3. I usually leaving my Mac running all the time and only restart when the need arises. In addition to being my main computer, this mac alsocontrols a MacMini that serves as a music server thru screen sharing.
This past weekend, I restarted my Mac and could not get past the grey screen. The mac chimes, the apple logo appears with the spinning gear, the blue screen briefly appears, but instead of progressing to the desktop it reverts to the grey screen with a repeating cycle of the spinning gear appearing (spins for a while, stops, disappears, reppears spinning, stops, disappears, over and over) - never progressing beyond that stage.
I decided to reinstall the system and things have been fine for the past few days. Today, restarting again resulting in the same problem.
I've tried several things without success. I disconnected all peripherals, reset the PRAM/SMC, ran Disk Utility from a install volume and ran repair and permissions (no problems reported). Tried safe mode startup - a progress bar appeared but never fully progressed and could not get to the desktop.
Recent changes included updating the OS to 10.7.3 and Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 - no recent hardware changes. No bluetooth devices connected.
    Any thoughts? Thanks -

    Thanks -
I've reinstalled the OS today and am back up and running.
But, since this is twice this has happened within the past week, I'm worried about might be causing this issue - besides bad luck. My Mac is usually rock solid - can't remember the last time I've had to reinstall the OS in the past few generations of OS X.
