Problem with reoccurring mount

I downloaded the dmg for zterm. I opened, mounted the image, and installed zterm. I unmounted the image and moved the dmg off to another folder. So, now the zterm dmg is not mounted.
Here's the fun part. I can logout/reboot and when I log back in, the mount is there. I can easily unmount. Btw, I'm using the Eject method via the GUI, not umount. Before I started system-level troubleshooting, I wanted to post it to the forum to see if someone can help.
Thanks in Advance,
Chris

Think I figured it. I had copied a directory out of the image. Not sure why that would have caused this; maybe I accidentally created a symlink. But I deleted the directory and unmounted the image. Just now logged in and the mount didn't come up.

In the pre-systemd I managed to do it with the use of storage group and without udevil. I have been suggested to reactivate storage group, but I would like a more "systemd-philosophy" compatible way.

I'm near solving: replacing 'storage' with 'wheel' allow me to mount devices without asking permissions.
The only "problem" left is that it mount devices under /run/media/$device_UUID while I would like them to be mounted $deivce_LABEL or, if unavailable, volume size or device mapping.
Also: should devices be mounted under /run or under /media? If I remember correctly in my old archbox devices where mounted under /media. I know that /run is intended as a tmpfs to be available sooner than /var and the problem having lots of tmpfs around many places (like dev).

  • Firmware 7.6 Problems With Disk Mount

I downgraded my Time Capsule firmware from 7.6 to 7.5.2, as it was repeatedly dropping my (wired ethernet) mount of its disk and reconnecting every 150 seconds or so.  7.5.2 seems to have fixed it.
This sort of thing was seen in the system log:
    Nov 15 00:20:03 Shackleton kernel[0]: Primary Reconnect succeeded /Volumes/Vilya

Installed the recently released 7.6.1 firmware, and it exhibits the same problem.  Reverted to 7.5.2 again, and the problem is gone.  Is anyone from Apple reading this?

  • Problem with reoccurring same recovered photos

    Hello,
I'm having the same reoccurring problem every time I activate iPhoto. I get a message window that says "82 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported, and would you like to import them?"
These photos are in the Library and in iPhoto. If I select yes then I get a message that says something to the extent they can't be imported because of a non readable problem. If I select no, then a folder and the photos are developed in the picture files titled recovered photos in Finder/Pictures....this happens every time I start iPhoto. How do I get rid of this reoccurring problem that is starting to bother me. Every time I delete the recovered folder it's recovered again when I start iPhoto
Thanks for any assistance or input you may have, or please direct me to an area where I might be able to find a fix.
    Bill

    Hi Larry,
Thank you for the welcome and your instructions worked perfectly and I am now a happy camper once again without multiple "recovered" photo folders. I have been reading other posts looking for a potential same problem while waiting for a response. Many of the other posts were referring to a iPhoto Folder within the "Picture" folder. Well, all I could find was a iPhoto Library icon and no folder ( I was able to find the the right click "show contents") prior to your corrective post but stopped right there in concern of making things worse. So as soon as I read your reply it made perfect directional sense to me.
I suppose now would be the time to back that Pictures Folder up again (fresh) although I do
have have it backed up on Time Machine and have also copied it to a Flash Drive in fear of losing all the family photo's and what the Boss Lady would do to me
Thank you again LN, you've been a great help!

  • Bigtime Problems With Volume Mounts

Dear kind, helpful, charitable, community of Apple users,
I'm been spinning my wheels on this for a week now and I'm totally stuck. I'm sufficiently desperate that I thought about offering a cash bounty via PayPal. (But I can't figure out an equitable way to do that so anyone who can help with this will win a virtual $1 "admin buck" and my undying gratitude.)
Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a Mac Mini running 10.6 server. I also have a 1T external USB hard drive. I want to permanently mount this external hard drive at /Users, so all user accounts will live on the external drive. I've been a sysadmin for 20 years, dabbling in Unix the whole time, and this seems to me like it should be a no-brainer.
Here's what I've tried: I added this line to /etc/fstab using vifs:
    UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB /Users hfs rw
I've also tried a couple of variations, using different options (like LABEL and the volume label instead of the UUID, as well as explicit numeric values for fs_freq and fs_passno in the fifth and sixth fields. Regardless, when I run 'mount -av' I get:
    GetMasterBlock: Error 2 opening UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB
    GetMasterBlock: Error 2 opening UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB
mount_hfs: No such file or directory
    mount: exec /System/Library/Filesystems/url.fs/Contents/Resources/mount_url for
/Network/Servers: No such file or directory
This is nonsense because the drive itself is formatted and partitioned and attached and on and visible in Disk Utility (though not mounted), and the /Users directory exists on the root. In fact, if I execute the following:
    mount_hfs /dev/disk2s3 /Users
The volume mounts perfectly! Everything is peachy. Except, as soon as I log off twice, the volume unmounts for no explicable reason. Rebooting the system never automounts the volume like it's supposed to. Anytime automount (or mount, for that matter) fails, this is posted in the console error log:
10/9/09 6:38:59 PM com.apple.autofsd[91] automount: Mount for UUID=BDFE6D09-7483-3479-B37F-0BE15F9CBFBB has no path for the directory to mount
Oh, and yes, autodiskmount.plist is correct and exists in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.
    So my questions are these:
    1. Why does the darn think keep unmounting whenever someone logs off the server?
    2. Why does mount -a fail, while mount_hfs works fine
    3. What the heck am I supposed to do to get this thing to mount and stay mounted at /Users?
Thanks for taking the time to ever read this!

    Hi Strontium90,
    Thanks for the reply!
That is because Firewire and USB drives do not mount until the Finder is active. This is the default behavior, meaning that server, booting to the login screen, will not mount "transitory bus" devices. However, this can be overcome. You need to run this command to alter the default behavior (note this is all one line):
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount AutomountDisksWithoutUserLogin -bool YES
Well, unfortunately, that's what I meant in my original post when I said that, yes, the file /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount.plist already exists. I have already executed the command you indicated, which creates the .plist file. And while this does seem to mount the drive right after a reboot, as I stated, the act of logging on and then off causes the drive to be unmounted. In fact, the as far as I can tell, no matter how the drive gets mounted, it is automatically unmounted at every logoff.
But unless I am misreading what you are trying to do, that will allow the drive to mount automatically during startup and be available to the system without a user session.
And it does... but it doesn't stay mounted. And it doesn't explain why mount -a fails with the errors I listed.
As for a remap of the Users folder... If this is for network homes, then simply define the share point and define it to go to your external drive.
It is indeed for network homes. Unfortunately, all of the defaults in server when creating accounts want to use /Users. I know I can change these defaults, but my experience with Apple is that successive operating system upgrades never respect or protect changes to defaults. Since all of the admin tools (and applications, and etc.) want to use /Users, I want to simply mount a larger partition at that point.
Which, unfortunately, brings me back to my original three questions...

  • Anyone else having problems with NFS mounts not showing up?

Since Lion, cannot see NFS shares anymore.  Folder that had them is still threre but the share will not mount.  Worked fine in 10.6.
    nfs://192.168.1.234/volume1/video
    /Volumes/DiskStation/video
    resvport,nolocks,locallocks,intr,soft,wsize=32768,rsize=3276
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Since the NFS points show up in the terminal app, go to the local mount directory (i.e. the mount location in the NFS Mounts using Disk Utility) and do the following:
    First Create a Link file
    sudo ln -s full_local_path link_path_name
    sudo ln -s /Volumes/linux/projects/ linuxProjects
Next Create a new directory say in the Root of the Host Drive (i.e. Macintosh HDD)
    sudo mkdir new_link_storage_directory
    sudo mkdir /Volumes/Macintosh\ HDD/Links
Copy the Above Link file to the new directory
    sudo  mv link_path_name new_link_storage_directory
    sudo  mv linuxProjects /Volumes/Macintosh\ HDD/Links/
Then in Finder locate the NEW_LINK_STORAGE_DIRECTORY and then the link file should allow opening of these NFS point points.
Finally, after all links have been created and placed into the NEW..DIRECTORY, Place it into the left sidebar.  Now it works just like before.

  • Digital Camera Connection Problems With Leopard

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having a big problem with connecting various digital cameras to my macs. I have 3 different machines (a G5 iMac, 2 MacBook Pros) all running 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 and none of them will recognize my canon Powershot SD800 or my SD1000. I haven't had a chance to test it out with my Digital Rebel yet but I'm suspecting I may run into the same issue.
I've read through all the tech notes in the iLife section and various articles on the web and from what I can tell Apple has a problem with usb device connections in Leopard. I've tried all of the fixes (deleting caches folder, resetting PRAM, updating all applications, etc) and nothing works. The cameras were working fine under 10.4.11. I was really hoping Apple would have fixed this in 10.5.2 but it is still not working. Does anyone have any ideas if Apple is working on this? For photographers like myself this is a major deal. I can get around the issue right now using an external memory card reader, but that's extremely inconvenient at times and I'm just not impressed that something like this has gone months without a fix from Apple.

And I'm not having any problems with Leopard mounting my Canon PowerShot Pro or Rebel though I typically don't connect them, choosing to use a card reader instead. (Saves camera battery.) This is true on the 4 computers I use at home and work as well as my wife's MacBook. Two came with Leopard pre-installed the other 3 I installed Leopard using Archive & install.
We can talk about how you upgraded to Leopard or what you have installed that might be getting in the way, or you can buy an inexpensive card reader and be done with the hassle.

  • [SOLVED] kde 4.6 and Udisks mounting problems with Dolphin

    Hello,
I have a problem with Dolphin in KDE 4.6 where it displays my non-Arch partitions (a / and /home used for Opensuse) as well as a CD-Rom or usb if inserted, but registers an error when I click on the device/partition icon. Specifically, I get the following error displayed at the bottom of Dolphin:
An error occurred while accessing Hard Drive, the system responded: org.freedesktop.UDisks.Error.Failed: Error creating mount point: No such file or directory.
Because of this error, I am unable to mount usb pendrives, access CDs, or access the non-Arch partitions. I'm not sure if this is a KDE error or if it related to Arch as I never encountered this error running KDE 4.6 in Opensuse.
    My daemons running in /etc/rc.conf
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus networkmanager netfs crond alsa kdm)
    My /etc/fstab
    #/dev/cdrom             /media/cd   auto    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/dvd               /media/dvd  auto    ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    #/dev/fd0               /media/fl   auto    user,noauto             0      0
    /dev/sda1 / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
    /dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/sda6 /home ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
    tmpfs   /tmp            tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,mode=1777                   0 0
    tmpfs   /var/lock       tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=1777,size=10M   0 0
    tmpfs   /var/run        tmpfs defaults,nodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=0755,size=10M   0 0
Now, I don't have hal running as a daemon as I have read that it is no longer needed in KDE 4.6. Similarly, I don't have my CD-Rom drive mounted as I read in the udev wiki that Udisks automatically mounts devices and partitions. The wiki also indicates that Udisks is supposed to require little configuration.
I've searched the forum and Google, and I have not been able to find any information documenting a Dolphin and UDisks mounting error in KDE 4.6.
I installed KDE through the # pacman -S kde    command, but is there some other package that I need to install in order to get Udisks working properly?
    Thanks.

When I enter   $ groups in a terminal I get the following
sys adm disk lp wheel games video audio optical storage power users
So I'm definitely part of the storage group.
I think I found a solution. I created a /data mountpoint in fstab and a /data folder in my root directory. Now, I'm able to mount and access the contents of the /home partition from Opensuse. The reason I wanted to do this was to access music and photos and transfer them onto my Arch /home partition.
I uncommented the cdrom, dvd, and fd0 devices in fstab and I created /media/cd, /media/dvd, and /media/fl. After inputting a # mount -a, my CDROM drive reads properly as does my USB.
So once again, thank, you for pointing me in the right direction.
One final thought. I was under the impression from reading the UDisks information that it automatically detected and mounted other partitions and devices without them being explicitly mounted in fstab. Was the assumption wrong? In other words, for UDisks and Dolphin to work together properly in KDE 4.6, do all of the devices that appear have to first be mounted in fstab?

  • Problem with mounting disk images

I have recently downloaded a media player and have had some problems. When I download the file to my desktop and try to run it, it gives me a "warning" window. In the window, it says that "the following disk images failed to mount" and gives "device not configured" as the reason. The file on the desktop's path is .dmg just to be more clear. So...yeah...any advice??
    Jay

Just to make sure (I don't think this is your problem, but it's easy to check), make sure /System/ Library/ CoreServices/ DiskImageMounter.app is present on your Mac.
Do you have another user account on your Mac? If necessary, use System Preferences> Accounts to create a new troubleshooting-only administrative user account. Check if that new user account can open .dmg files. If it does, that indicates a problem with the preferences in your normal user account. Use Preferential Treatment to scan your prefs. You can also drag the ~/Users/ [yourusername]/ Library/ Preferences folder tot he desktop, log out and back in, and see if .dmg images work, then move your prefes back from teh Preferences folder on the Desktop to the one in ~/Users/ [yourusername]/ Library. Or you might just try moving these prefs to the Desktop:
    /Users / [yourusername]/ Library/ Preferences/ com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent.plist
    and com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
If the troubleshooting user account also shows the problem, first run Disk Utility/ Repair Permissions. If that doesn't fix the problem, try running the OS X Update Combo 10.4.7 (Intel) (using Disk Utility to expand that .dmg file after downloading).

  • Problems with HDV footage from sony HDR - HC9

I have a new sony HDR-HC9 cam corder. I want to shoot in hi def (HDV) format for best quality, but I produce standard def DVDs as a finished product. I was hoping to use the built in iLink conversion from HDV to DV when downloading to the computer into iMovie. I have had many problems with this.
Usually, when I set it up to do the downconversion, I see a blue screen in iMovie, although iMovie will ff and rew the camera, no images come across. I experimented with setting the camera in DV record mode at the same time as I had the iLink down conversion set, and this appeared to work. I started downloading an hour tape, and when I came back 65minutes later (after it should have been done), saw the message that iMovie had quit. Reopened the project, and saw an hour worth of footage in the trash, but it was too crazy to reorder the clips from the trash back to the clips pane.
I resigned to import in hdv (1080i) format and not mess with hardware downconversion. This worked fine. I then added some chapter markers and shared the project with iDVD. I saved the project as an image file and then mounted it to check it for errors. The video was OK, but towards the end of the project, the sound was out of sync by a few seconds with the video.
I deleted encoded assets from the iDVD project, then reburned (save as image file). Same defect.
I then started a new iMovie project in standard DV widescreen, and dragged all of the clips from the HDV (1080i) project into the time line. It took over an hour for my mac mini to run the conversion, but the movie in iMovie appeared OK. I redid the iDVD project, and saved as image file. It appears to have worked correctly (although I have not looked at it on my widescreen TV yet to assess image quality.
    Questions:
    1) Has anyone had any luck getting HDR-HC9 iLink HDV-DV hardware conversion to work with iMovie, consistently?
    2) Can anyone comment on image quality issues with converting HDV to DV footage using iMovie software.
    3) Has anyone seen audio sync problems with iDVD from HDV original footage.
    Thanks

  • Problems with Customer Service AND unexplained charges!

I've been with Verizon for I-don't-know-how-many years, and through the years you are bound to have a few problems here and there but some of the problems are just ridiculous! It's also the same reocurring problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was with Alltel first, before it was bought out by Verizon. The years I was with Alltel, I didn't have near as many problems. It seems EVERY time I do the smallest change or something to my phone or bill, I get a ridiculous amount of charges that I was NOT aware of, nor told about... EVEN IF I ask "So this isn't going to change my bill, or there will not be any unexpected/unexplained charges that I don't know about?"... BUT not matter how many times I ask... and NO matter how many times I am told "no"... there always is. For example.... last year, I updated and signed a new 2 year contract and purchased the first Driod. Before, my 30 day warranty was up, I was having problems with my Driod, and decided to send it in and get a new one. Before I did this.. I called customer service to make sure there would be no interuption in my bill, and there wouldn't be any unexpect charges, and there would be no difference in anything. I was told there was not, and once I recieved my new phone, just send it in and nothing would be changed. Of course, when I get my bill.. I see I was charged $500 for the new phone. It was explained to me that my credit card was reimbursed (which I never check that card, because I never used it expect to purchase the phone) and that I was recharged for the new phone, since it was a new phone. So I had to fork out the $500 (on top of my bill) and then wait months to get the $100 rebate card. Months after that, I "assumed liablity of my line" because I was on a plan with my family. I decided to have my own line, so I "assumed liability." I was not told that when I did that, I "renewed" my contract date. So I just added 6 more months to my 2 year contract. Was NOT told about that! Then again...... I was recently having problems with my Driod (the screen went black and would not come back on.) I had to turn on an OLD motorola razor, so I would not be without a phone for two days while I was waiting on my phone to come in. As soon as my phone came in, I had my Droid turned back on. I recieved my bill recently, and my bill was $200 over what it normally should be.... so I called in... apparently, when I had my phone replaced, they dropped off my data package and when I recieved my replacement driod, they never put it back on. So I was being charged for alllll my data usage... again I was NOT told about this. I wasn't even aware that they had dropped off my data package, and when/where did they get the authority to do that??? These are just a FEW of the problems that I have had.................................
Does anyone have these reoccuring problems!?

I understand that my bill can be viewed online, and I do view it fairly regularly, so if there are any unexplained charges, I can call Verizon asap. The problem does not come from me not understanding my bill, but from customer service. I have been with Verizon for a very long time, and it is a continuing problem. Where did Verizon get the 'OK' to drop my data package off my plan? Who authorized that?
After calling Verizon and trying to find out the problem, the gentleman told me that when I activated on old phone while I was waiting on my new Droid to arrive, my data package was dropped off and I "should" have been told about that. When I reactiviated my new Droid, I "should" have called and had them restart my data package. I was not aware that when you activate an old phone that data plan is taken off your plan. In all my years of having cell phones, I never make two years with one phone. I have always, at one point, had to turn on an old phone, and my data package has NEVER changed. Why would I have my data package dropped and why would I have to call Verizon to have it restarted. I would never know to do that unless I was TOLD that my data packaged HAD to be re-added when I recieved my new phone, but I was never told of that.
All of that is beside the point, the point is, Verizon was never given the authorization to change my plan. Never. My bill was taken care of and readjusted, and I am thankful for that. It does not change the fact it is always a hassle with Verizon Customer Service and I am always the one having to PROVE that I am not at fault, or that I was NEVER told of certian things. EVERY TIME I HAVE CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE, I AM TOLD "I'M SORRY, THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU THAT."
"they should" does not help my bill with the extra armount of charges.

  • Problems With System Configuration

System Configuration is altered and not repairable. Selective startup is persistent. Normal startup is selected, but the Apply button is greyed out, inaccessible, and system always remains in Selective startup. As a result, Current User profile is probably
corrupted. Windows Store will not install (services are corrupt, SFC and DISM did not work). Outlook profile was deleted, needed to be reinstalled, and can not receive mail. Excel math engine totals values higher than actual amounts. IE automatically signs
into all Microsoft accounts (reset to default settings worked for a log on, but automatic sign in resumed afterwards).
    Are there any solutions?
Office diagnostics produced the following report.
    Diagnostic Results
None of the Microsoft Office Diagnostics found any problems.
    More resources
Setup Diagnostic — File corruption or altered file
The Setup Diagnostic repaired problems with your installation of Microsoft Office. Your Microsoft Office programs should now function correctly.
If your Microsoft Office programs continue to crash, the source of the problem may be a hardware failure or hardware configuration problem. Review the results of the Disk and Memory Diagnostics to determine if a hardware failure is affecting your installation
    of the 2007 Office release.
    More resources
    Setup Diagnostic — Missing media
The Setup Diagnostic was not completed because a valid source was not found. Either the local installation source is missing, or the original source that was used to install Microsoft Office is not available to the repair process. You may need to provide
the original source to allow this diagnostic to run successfully. Valid sources for the 2007 Office release include the following:
Your 2007 Office release installation CD
An installation disk or repair CD provided by the vendor of your computer
A connection to a network installation of the 2007 Office release
After you obtain access to a valid source, run Office Diagnostics again.

Disk Diagnostic — Failure of hard disk predicted
The Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) feature of your hard disk has found errors that may indicate that the hard disk is likely to fail. SMART is a feature that some disk drive manufacturers provide to give users advance notice
of potential hard disk failure. Instability in your Microsoft Office programs may be the result of these hard disk drive errors.
Note This result can indicate a severe problem, but some hard disks may not accurately report their results.
We recommend that you do the following:
1.Back up your important data immediately.
2.Check the results of other diagnostics, and follow the instructions for resolving any issues that the other diagnostics have reported. After you resolve those issues, run Microsoft Office Diagnostics again to see if this Disk Diagnostic issue is resolved.
3.If you continue to get this result, contact someone, such as the vendor of your computer or hard disk.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Maybe a long shot, but WD is not known for the quality of some of their enclosures, although I do like the drives themselves. It may be worth mounting this drive in a different enclosure, something like one of OWC's FireWire enclosures with the highly reliable Oxford chip sets. I wouldn't be inclined to trust a WD enclosure, especially if it already seemed to be acting in a flakey manner.
Here's an example of what I mean:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEP924FW8E2O/
I have 3 of these and I really like them.
From what I understand, if the drive spins up, it is often possible to recover data from it. To be absolutely certain to destroy the data, you just about have to take a hammer to the disk. Hopefully, there will be a way to get your data back.
    Good luck!

I'm facing the same error message while install Siebel 8.0 on OEL. But before I had this ksh problem, it complains about disc space first, and I actually has plenty of disk space under the directory (it needs only 0.7 G and I have 17G free). Anybody has encountered such problem before?
