Problem with setInvalid() (Struts/BC4J)
Hi all,
As suggested in the Developers Guide, I call an invalidateMe() method for recalculating sums in the master entity. However this refuses to work. The master page does not update its sum.
The sum is calculated in the ViewObject's query and treated as a transient attribute. I assume that the EntityObject signals all associated ViewObjects to deal with the invalidation. Or do I have to invalidate the ViewObject itself?
have a nice weekend,
Martijn Peters
Steven,
The transient attributes are actually called 'Calculated attributes' in BC4J. The sum is calculated using an SQL statement in the expression textbox of the view attribute panel of the view object editor. The sum represents the total number of hours in a week using the Weeks-Days-Hours master-detail-detail relationship. When Hours entities are modified, I expect a recalculation of the week total in the Weeks view object.
Is there a way to enforce a re-execution of the view objects query when the details are modified? Or do I have to calculate the sum with Java code?
kind regards,
Martijn Peters

Weblogic 10.0 Problems with stripes/struts
When trying to deploy the sample application for the stripes framework on weblogic 10.0 I get the following error when deploying.

The problem appear to be weblogic 10.0 specific. No problems with jetty or tomcat, and I've heard reports that it is resolved in weblogic 10.3. Have ayone come accross similar problems when using stripes/struts on weblogic 10.0, and found a solution to this? Is there a patch available for 10.0 than fix this?

PS: I have ommited the complete stack trace, since it is monstrously huge.Guess I was wrong in thinking that this was an isolated weblogic 10.0 problem. I just downloaded weblogic 10.3 and tried to deploy the same application there, and the same error happened.

URGENT: Problems with Dates in BC4J
Hello I have the next problem, I have to access to Dates from my B Component and consult the day , month , and I don4t know how because it only give the posibility to convert it to a String and with a String i don4t know to access to the day.
Thanks for your help.I'm having the same problem.
Here's what the problem is (in case some people dismissed Inazio's question just because his English is not as good as theirs):
A DATE field in a database table maps to an oracle.jbo.domain.Date class in the Business Components framework. In order to do something with the date value, we have to convert it to a java.util.Date object. How do we convert oracle.jbo.domain.Date to java.util.Date?

Problems with CORBA deployed BC4J used by JSP app
Hi JDev Team all is beginning to run
, we are trying with EJB's but now we are turn to CORBA for close
view, in a first look CORBA is more complicated than EJB's but
the performance for EJB's is poor from our point of view, if you
are interested in our tryings, more in a another message.
But now in our very first probe with CORBA using the
onlineOrders tuttorial as base, with the jars, classpaths and all
the inner works in a ( as far we knows ) correct state, deployed
and generated, when i try to navigate from de main.jsp (
generated ) to, for example, CustomerView i get this error in the
browser :
Error Message: JBO-25008: Object SupplierView is referenced by
SuppliedByLink. Cannot be removed
Remember that for now we do not modify any code in the generated
jsp's, and the tester runs OK on the deployed BC from
onlineorders, deployed in a fresh schema created in the process
and prepared like the tutorial says.
We continue impressed and very very pleased in the process of
learning JDdev 3.0 and your works :-)

nullHi
It is a bug discovered late but there is a workaround for this.
The error lies in the following iine in
oracle\DataWebBeanImpl.java am.getTransaction().reconnect(false);
Commenting this line out solves the problem.
Workaround Description:
1.Extract jboHTMLsrc.zip to get
oracle\jdeveloper\html\DataWebBeanImpl.java
and comment out the line:
am.getTransaction().reconnect(false);
2. Add this file to your project or compile it and add the .class
file to the classpath.

Bussines rules problems using Struts + BC4J
Hi, I'm using struts + bc4j and I have some problems with the validations made on the entities.
Looks like sometimes, struts didn't shows the error message until the commit is made. But the problem is that on the navigator shows me the stack trace of the exception, but only when I do the commit of the transaction.
In the test of the application module, the business rules works perfectly.
If somebody can help me i will aprecciate it.
Thanks

A problem with struts - DispatchAction class
Hi,
I am facing a problem with DispatchAction class in struts 1.1.
Here is my senario:
I have a two classes that extend DispatchAction - classA and classB.
In classA, I have a start method. In classB, I have two methods - display and submit.
When my application starts, my index.jsp does a logic:forward to the struts-config.xml file.
e.g.:
index.jsp<logic:forward name="startApp"/>
struts-config.xml<form-beans>
<form-bean name="testFormBean" type="package.testFormBean">
</form-bean>
</form-beans>
<global-forwards>
<forward name="startApp" path="/startApp.do?method=start"/>
</global-forwards>
<action-mappings>
<action name="testFormBean"
path="/startApp"
parameter="method"
validate="false"
scope="request"
type="package.StartAppActions">
<forward name="successOneUser" path="/runSearch.do?method=display"/>
</action>
<action name="testBean"
path="/runSearch"
parameter="method"
validate="false"
scope="request"
type="package.SearchActions">
<forward name="success" path="/html/jsps/success.jsp"/>
</action>
</action-mappings>
when my application starts, the control goes to the index.jsp and then because of the logic forward goes to the start method of the /startApp action(i.e. the StartAppActions class). I return a ActionForward element with the value of "successOneUser".
Uptill this point everything works fine.
But now it should go the /runSearch element (i.e. SearchActions class) and the display method of it. But it is not going there. The error I am getting is action[runSearch] does not have a method named "start".
I checked the value for the method parameter using the RAD/WSAD debugger, the value of parameter is "method" is still "start".
I do not understand why it is not overiding the value of parameter "method" with display even though I am doing a
<forward name="successOneUser" path="/runSearch.do?method=display"/> in the /startApp element, which should send the control to the display method of the [runSearch] element (i.e. in the startActions class).
Can anyone tell me what the problem is ?
Thanks in advance.
kaushalTry this:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("your_batch_file.bat");
where your_batch_file is:
SET CLASSPATH=....(place all needed classes here)
javac.exe filename
must work,but there is some limitation...
you must think to solve this problems.
i hope that will help,

BC4J temporary focus problem with JDK 1.4.2
Hello all,
we have got a tricky problem with BC4J (Oracle JDeveloper 9.0.3.2)
using the JDK 1.4.2 (Sun):
There is a JFrame with a JMenuBar, containing a BC4J data panel with the controls on it.
Now if one enters a value in a control and now directy clicks on the JMenuBar, the control
gets a focusLost event but is not validated through BC4J and not set to the model.
If a commit would be called from the menue the entered data is lost !
In case of the JDK 1.3.1_02, which comes with the JDeveloper, everything works fine: after
the focusLost event, the data is validated and set to the model.
We have investigated the problem more deeper. The difference between
the 1.4 and 1.3 is, that the 1.4 creates a temporary FocusEvent and the 1.3 not.
We stepped up the stack into the Method oracle.jbo.uicli.jui.JUSVUpdateableFocusAdapter.focusLost:
the temporary focusEvent causes this method to return and to do nothing:
* Performs a setAttribute() on the control binding to save the changes made by
* the control to the attribute value.
public void focusLost(FocusEvent e)
if (e.isTemporary())
return;
JUCtrlAttrsBinding binding = (JUCtrlAttrsBinding)mAttrBinding;
I think it is a general problem with 1.4, because many things dealing with focus
have been expaned and changed.
Is this a bug or should BC4J not be used with 1.4 ?
Greetings9.0.3.2 is not tested with JDK 1.4, so issues like this are not a surprise.
However we will test this with our current development branch (which is being tested on JDK 1.4x) and verify if the behavior is reproducible. -
URGENT timout problems with bc4j
Hello Jdev Team,
We have a serious problem with the BC4J. The situation is as
follows:
We use BC4J with jsp pages an run the whole thing on a j2ee
Container.
We have written our own ApplicationPool class and
ApplicationModule datatag because the users have to login
using different credentials. The login users are db-users. The
application release mode is reserved.
The application crashes frequently. 2 errors occur.
First of all we get an JBO-30003: "The application pool, {AM
Name}, failed to checkout an application module instance."
after the BC4J Container timeout --> messages ("BC4J HTTP
Container was timed out" and "The binding listener for { AM
name} was timed out")
We haven't found a way to alter the BC4J container timeout.
Where do we customize the timeout?
We have tried to use the HttpSessionTimeOut variable but it
seems to have no effect.
I hope you can help us with this one.
Second problem is that the J2EE Container stops functioning
after a couple of requests.
Even if an other browser is started (on the same or different
machine) the Container does not respond to any request.
We have found a Thread on technet handling this kind of problem
but the solution doesn't work in our case.
(the solution on technet was to put synchronized(session) around
each JSP page)
Now we run the application under Apache/Jserv and with the same
Runtime packages as used in the Container and the problem
seems to have disappeared.
Here follows the code of the ApplicationPool class:
The class is based on an example posted on technet

Am I mistaken or is it a bug?
Thank you for your fast response.
Greetings,
Ief CuynenFirst of all we get an JBO-30003: "The application pool, {AM Name}, failed to checkout an application module
instance."
The JBO-30003 exception is thrown whenever the pool cannot
properly create/recycle an application module. Please see the
exception details (scan the exception stack to find the exception
details) for more information regarding the "root" cause of the
exception.
We haven't found a way to alter the BC4J container timeout. Where do we customize the timeout?
The BC4J container is timed out when the HttpSession is timed
out. The session timeout is configurable via the web.xml file
for the J2EE application. Your servlet container may also
include another mechanism for setting a session timeout.
Second problem is that the J2EE Container stops functioning after a couple of requests. Even if an other browser
is started (on the same or different machine) the Container does
not respond to any request. We have found a Thread on technet
handling this kind of problem but the solution doesn't work in
our case.
The issue sounds like a deadlock. Please use kill -3 (Solaris)
or ctrl-break (NT) at the java server console to print the thread
stack trace to stdout. This will contain more information
regarding which threads are blocked and where. If you would like
you can send the stack trace to me via mail and I can take a look
at it.
The solution of synchronizing your pages with the HttpSession
context is required only if you are using the BC4J datatags with
HTML frames (i.e. have multi-threaded application module
access for a given session). Please note that this solution may
have a performance impact and should not be implemented unless
absolutely necessary.
Another thing is that the JSPApplicationRegistry contains a bug (I think). It doesn't use the HttpSessionTimeOut variable
at all (see following code)
This parameter was deprecated after 3.1. It looks like the code
which used the parameter may have been removed prematurely.
Sorry for the confusion. Please use the J2EE compliant
mechanisms mentioned above to configure the session timeout in
3.2.
Finally, please note that JDeveloper9i includes new integrated
features for the often requested feature of supporting different
db users with the same application pool! Please stay tuned. -

Struts \ POI \ Javascript Problem with IE 7
Alright folks, I'm having a problem migrating my application from IE 6 to IE 7. We have search functionality in the app that triggers off of javascript calls when a button is pressed in the search. Once the data is retrieved, an export button becomes enabled that allows the user to export those results to Excel using POI. On the back end, we're using struts running in WAS 6. When the results are exported, the action class manually writes the excel workbook to the output stream as below:
protected void print(HSSFWorkbook a_wb, HttpServletResponse a_response)
throws IOException, ServletException {
// generate output
a_response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
ServletOutputStream out = a_response.getOutputStream();
a_wb.write(out);
Then the action returns null to signify to struts that the response has already been handled manually.
Everything works perfectly in IE 6. In IE 7, however, everything is not so great. The search works to retrieve the results and I can export them to Excel. The problem is that after I export them to Excel, all the Javascript on my page ceases to work. Basically, what I've been able to determine is that upon receiving the Excel document response something is causing the document Javascript variable to become undefined. This causes all my javascript -- things like:
document.getElementById('actionIndicator').value ="Clear";
to completely fail because document is undefined. Mind you, the page is still sitting there rendered in IE, and I can do things like window.frames and programmatically see a list of the frames defined on the page -- but the document variable is completely gone.
At this point I'm kind of at a loss as to what to check or test next, so I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks!Hey Gina
we have not seen broken images like you did, but have seen dramatic reduction in respose time with IE 7 (~20 times slower than normal). A bunch of IT folks tried various settings and configurations, with no success. Finally, we figured that different versions of IE 7 acd differently. Version 5700 was running fine. Version 5713 (or something like that, the latest one) was slooooow.
Our Office of Information Resources does not "support" any other browser than IE. So, in addition to problems with Office 2007 I described previously, we may get a double whammy from Microsoft. Don't get me started.

Anyone deploy ADF(UIX,Struts,BC4J) to 9iAS 9.02?
Has anyone been successful in deploying a ADF 10g app using UIX/Struts/BC4J to Oracle 9iAS 9.02?
Deploying a UIX application directly from JDeveloper 10g to iAS 9.0.2 isn't supported out of the box. You can deploy directly to iAS 10g (9.0.4), standalone OC4J 10g (9.0.4) instances (one is included with JDeveloper 10g), iAS 9.0.3 Java edition, standalone OC4J 9.0.3, and selected third party servlet engines.
There are two issues that you would need to workaround to deploy a 10g ADF application to iAS 9.0.2. One issue is that 9.0.2 versions of some of the ADF libraries (BC4J and UIX for example) are on the global application.xml classpath of the iAS 9.0.2 customer home OC4J instance. You would need to manually upgrade your 9.0.2 instance to have all of the ADF 10g libraries. The second issue is that some of the ADF 10g libraries (like BC4J) require JDK 1.4, and iAS 9.0.2 shipped with an earlier version of the JDK. I personally don't know if using iAS 9.0.2 with JDK 1.4 is a supported combination, but I will try to find out for you.
By the way, you might wonder why we don't have these same problems with with iAS 9.0.3 and 9.0.4 since the ADF 10g libraries are more recent than what shipped with those releases. In OC4J 9.0.3 and 9.0.4 there is a "search-local-classes-first" option in orion-web.xml that allows classes provided as part of a web application to be loaded in preference to what is on the global application.xml classpath. We use this feature to deploy ADF 10g applications (and include the JARs for some of the ADF libraries in the WEB-INF/lib of the application). In addition, there is a tool called the ADF Installer that is part of JDeveloper that will upgrade versions of some of the backward compatible ADF libraries (like BC4J) in the global application.xml. -
Problem with setting oracle type parameter in viewobject query
Hi There,
I am facing a problem with JDev1013. I have a view that has JDBC positional parameters that are supposed to be in parameters for function like:
SELECT x.day, x.special_exact_period_only
FROM (
SELECT x.day, x.special_exact_period_only
FROM (
SELECT
x.day,
rb.special_exact_period_only
FROM TABLE (
RentabilityPkg.findMarkerSlots(
'start',
? /* dchannel */,
NULL,
? /* resorts */,
'special',
NULL,
? /* code */,
NULL,
TRUNC(SYSDATE),
TRUNC(SYSDATE + 365 * 2),
NULL
) x
JOIN resourcebase rb USING (rentabilitymanager_id)
UNION
SELECT
x.day,
rb.special_exact_period_only
FROM TABLE (
RentabilityPkg.findMarkerSlots(
'start',
? /* dchannel */,
NULL,
? /* resorts */,
'composition',
NULL,
? /* code */,
NULL,
TRUNC(SYSDATE),
TRUNC(SYSDATE + 365 * 2),
NULL
) x
JOIN resourcebase rb USING (rentabilitymanager_id)
)x
ORDER BY x.day
) x
WHERE ROWNUM <= 30now the JDBC positional parameters take our custom defined list type defined as:
CREATE TYPE NumberList AS TABLE OF NUMBER;
we are setting the parameter in the views with the help of oracle.sql.ARRAY class like:
* Set parameters.
public void setParams(Integer dchannelId, Integer[] resorts, String specialCode)
try {
System.out.println(this.getClass() + ".setParams()");
ARRAY arrParam1 = ((NWSApplicationModule)getApplicationModule()).toSQLNumberList(Arrays.asList(resorts));
ARRAY arrParam2 = ((NWSApplicationModule)getApplicationModule()).toSQLNumberList(Arrays.asList(resorts));
System.out.println("arrParam1 - " + arrParam1);
System.out.println("arrParam1 - " + arrParam1);
System.out.println(this.getClass() + " ARRAY - " + arrParam1.getArray());
System.out.println(this.getClass() + " -- " + arrParam1.length());
System.out.println("arrParam2 - " + arrParam2);
System.out.println("arrParam2 - " + arrParam2);
System.out.println(this.getClass() + " ARRAY - " + arrParam2.getArray());
System.out.println(this.getClass() + " -- " + arrParam2.length());
Object[] params =
{ dchannelId,
arrParam1,
specialCode,
dchannelId,
arrParam2,
specialCode
setWhereClauseParams(params);
System.out.println("DONE WITH " + this.getClass() + ".setParams()");
catch(Exception ex)
ex.printStackTrace(System.out);
}the toSQLNumberList() method is defined in our App module baseclass as follows:
public ARRAY toSQLNumberList(Collection coll)
debug("toSQLNumberList()");
DBTransaction txn = (DBTransaction)getTransaction();
debug("txn - " + txn + " : " + txn.getClass());
return NWSUtil.toSQLNumberList(coll, getConnection(txn));
public static ARRAY toSQLNumberList(Collection c, Connection connection)
//printTrace();
debug("toSQLNumberList()");
try
ArrayDescriptor numberList = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("NUMBERLIST", connection);
NUMBER[] elements = new NUMBER[c == null ? 0 : c.size()];
if (elements.length > 0 )
Iterator iter = c.iterator();
for (int i = 0; iter.hasNext(); i++)
elements[i] = new NUMBER(iter.next().toString());
return new ARRAY(numberList, connection, elements);
catch (Exception ex)
ex.printStackTrace();
return null;
protected Connection getConnection(DBTransaction dbTransaction)
//return null;
debug("Inside getConnection()");
CallableStatement s = null;
try
* Getting Conenction in BC4J is dirty but its better
* as otherwise we might end up coding with connections
* and the Transaction Integrety will be
s = dbTransaction.createCallableStatement("BEGIN NULL; END;", 0);
debug("DOING s.getConnection()...");
Connection conn = s.getConnection();
debug("DONE WITH s.getConnection()...");
/*try
throw new Exception("TEST");
catch (Exception ex)
ex.printStackTrace(System.out);
debug("conn CLASS - " + conn.getClass());
return conn;
catch (Exception ex)
ex.printStackTrace();
return null;
finally
try { s.close(); }
catch (Exception ex) {}
}Whenever we try setting the parameters in view using setParams() and use this view to set the model of a java control it thorws the following exception :

ADF Tutorial: problem with chapter 10 (Deploying the Application)
Hi!
I'm learning from ADF Tutorial (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/ADFBC_tutorial_1013/index.htm) and I have problem with chapter 10. After deploying finished application on the server (OracleAS10g) I try to test it but I get this error everytime:
500 Internal Server Error
Servlet error: An exception occured. The current application deployment descriptors do not allow for including it in this response. Please consult the application log for details.
I get this error after typing login credentials. I didn't consult the log, because I don't know where to look for it (could you tell me please?). I did everything as described in the Tutorial, but I know there are mistakes (in Tutorial), so I don't know what to do.
Thanks for any advices.Hi,
I'm running Windows XP, JDeveloper version 10.1.3.4.0, Oracle AS 10g version 10.1.3.4.0 with patch. When I tried to deploy same application on Windows Vista and OC4J, it work perfectly, which really confuses me. I think I found log file so I will post it here. It's long, I'm sorry about that:
