Problem with shell script

The Startup file contain following lines.
Cd $oracle_home
Cd cd dbs
ORACLE_SID=tmp
export ORACLE_SID
svrmgrl >> EOF trial.log
connect internal
startup PFILE=inittmp.ora
disconnect
exit
cd /
EOF trial.log
$ sh startup
after it is going to loop by pressing ctrl c or ctrl z it is comming out.
What's wrong with this.
Can any body help me regarding this script.

1) If you have access to a Windows machine , run the problematic query in windows 'rwrun' and see whether there is any output That way we can find out whether this a 'shell' related problem . [ ie the way cmd lines are passed ]
2) Backup and Edit the rwrun.sh script . There you can see
rwrun $* # or something to this effect
Instead of '$*' , put your command line args inside directly .
Then just simply run using rwrun.sh < no args >
Again , this is to see whether this problem is due to the way shell handles parameters
3) You can even try setting env variables [ as in reports.sh ] and trying 'rwrun' in shell prompt itself
rwrun <.....> # no .sh
4) Please consult SuSe shell docs and see whether % [ or may be ' and \ ] has any special meaning.

  • Problem with a script to remove graphics

    Hello,
    I have tried to build a javascript to remove all graphics whose extension is not ".EPS" (with "EPS" really in upper cases, as it is for Mathtype equations in Word import).
    But It doesn't work and I can't understand why.
    Here is the script:
    //The script intend to remove all graphics whose extension is not ".EPS"
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var myGraphics = myDoc.allGraphics
    //Remove graphic if graphic extension is different from ".EPS"
    for (var p = 0; p < myGraphics.length; p++) {
        var myImage = myGraphics[p]
        if (CheckExtEps(myImage) != 0){
        myImage.remove ()
    //Compare graphic extension with ".EPS" and return myExtValue = 0 if it matches exactly
    function CheckExtEps(myImage) {
        var  myString = myImage.name
        myExt = myString.substr(myString.lastIndexOf( "." ))
        myExtValue = myExt.localeCompare(".EPS")
        return myExtValue
    When I run this script, ALL the graphics are removed, ".EPS" included.
    I do have ".EPS" graphics in my document and I expected them not to be removed.
    So there is something wrong somewhere, but I don't know what to change.
    Any ideas?
    By the way, I have a more generic question as a beginner:
    I am working with ExtendScript Toolkit. How can I do to check my script step by step?
    For exemple, how can I display my variables values as "myString", "myExt", "myExtValue" at each step?
    Actually, this script is a step for a bigger script I intend to build to deal with Mathtype equations in Word import.
    After not-EPS graphics beeing removed, I wish to relink all remaining equation prewiews to eps in a selected folder, by consecutive order.
    But this is a big piece of scripting to swallow for me, so I'm working slowly, step by step.
    TIA
    Best regards
    Nicolas

    Hello Ariel
    Thank you very much for your help.
    1. I added semicolons at the end of lines, but the script result is the same.
    2. Running line by line, I could see in the Console where is the problem:
    variable "myString" is always undefined.
    Well, I have to get more inside my script...
    Thank's again
    Best regards

    Well, I can't see any semicolons in your script. Maybe that's just the
    email interface, but there should be semicolons at the ends of lines.
    In the ESTK, you can step through a script a line at a time. Just click
    on the downwards pointing arrow instead of the "play" arrow. Each time
    you click, the script will advance one line. In the Console window
    (Windw>Console) you can then type the name of the variable you wish to
    examine.

  • Problem with navigation script

    Hi I'm having trouble getting a button work correctly when
    pressed it should take user to a particular label on the main
    scene. Is there a problem with my script? The button is inside a
    movie clip which is inside another movie clip. Thanks in
    advance.

    this quite difficult to explain but here goes. i have a
    complex button with a roll in roll out effect. ie. a movie clip
    acting as a button that shows different buttons (in another movie
    clip) when it is rolled over. I then want the different buttons to
    go to other parts in the main timeline. the code works fine when
    the buttons are on the main timeline but because it is within
    another two movie clips it doesnt work like it should. In fact the
    script i have used in the first movie clip also affects the button.
    This script is as follows and belongs in the first frame of the
    first movie clip. In other words, I need the button not to be
    effected by the following script but by the gotoAndPlay script.

  • Need to enable Usage Tracking With Shell Script

    Hi All
    I have patch 11.1.1.6.7 installed in system. I have Redhat linux 6 sytem
    Can we enable usage tracking with shell script ? if yes how ?
    Thanks
    Samit Baghla

    Hi Samit,
    No you can not as per my info because everything to be configured for the usage tracking is via repository and enterprise manager. You need to invoke it in em and rpd you need to do modelling. I still did not understand that why you want to create the shell script !!
    Thanks,

  • SQL in Connection with shell scripts

    Hello everyone,
    I have a conceptual question:
    If people like to implement their SQL-Scripts attached on a shell script(Ruby, Perl, or even OS-Shell), what are actually the benefits doing this? Can someone please give me a szenario, which is very effectively if we do it with combination with shell-script.
    My second question: does oracle sql developer support this shell combination?
    Thank you..

    Wrapping sql script in a shell script provides flexibility. Shell can provide better parameter validation than SQL, better output handling, and better error trapping. Personally I would have the sql script separately for purist modularisation reasons, but you can merge the two.
    e.g.
    getdate.sql
    select sysdate from dual;getdate.sh can look like this
    sqlplus user/pwd @getdateor
    sqlplus user/pwd <<EOSQL
    @getdate
    EOSQLor
    sqlplus user/pwd <<EOSQL
    select sysdate from dual;
    exit
    EOSQLMy preference would be for either of the first two.
    You can use various shell facilities to capture the output of the sql statement for use elsewhere. Variations of the above example can be use to get the current database date and time into the shell environment for use in other queries, or in the shell itself.
    You can run SQL Developer from the command line, but the tool of choice for command line is SQL Plus.

  • Problem with shell commands and scripts from an Applescript Application

    Hi-
    I am fairly new to OSX software development. I am trying to build an application that creates a reverse SSH tunnel to my computer and starts OSXvnc. The idea is that my Mom or anyone else who needs help can connect to me without having to tinker with their firewalls.
    There are plenty of resources on how to do this, and I have found them. What I have a problem with is the following.
    I am building this application in Xcode as an Applescript application, because Applescript and shell scripting are the only forms of programming I know. I use an expect script to connect through SSH, and a "do shell script" for the raw OSXvnc-server application to allow screen sharing.
    The problem is that when I click on the button to launch OSXvnc-server or the button to launch SSH, the application freezes until the process it spawns is killed or finishes. For example, I can set SSH to timeout after 60 seconds of no connection, and then the Applescript application responds again. I even tried using the ssh -f command to fork the process, but that doesn't seem to help.
    I am also using "try" around each of the items.
    What am I doing wrong? How can I make the buttons in my app launch SSH and OSXvnc-server without hanging the application while it waits for them to finish?
    Thanks so much!

    See here for an explanation of the syntax.

    Dear Timothy,
    Within the Oracle software you have installed on your machine, there is a script called "dbstart" within the <ORACLE_HOME>/bin directory. This script provided by Oracle can be easily modified to check whether the server is up and should help solve your problem.

  • Problems with rsync scripting

    I'm having a problem scripting rsync since updating from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.  I had an Applescript that would backup a USB thumb drive with rsync.  It stopped working after the upgrade.  The odd thing is that the exact same rsync command works from the command line.  I re-wrote the backup script as a .sh file.  Same problem.  I can run the script from Textwrangler and it works.  Running it from the file gives the same error.
    The rsync command:
    rsync -azv --ignore-existing --delete --exclude='.*' '/Volumes/No Name/' '/Users/scott/Documents/Documents/Backup_USB_Drive/Backup_New/'
    The error:
    building file list ... rsync: link_stat "/Volumes/No Name/." failed: Invalid argument (22)
    done
    sent 29 bytes  received 20 bytes  98.00 bytes/sec

    rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-42/rsync/main.c(992) [sender=2.6.9]
    Help.  How do I make this work?

    Maybe I'm missing the point, but this seems to work for me:
    try
        POSIX file "Volumes/No Name/" as alias -- alias "No Name:"
    on error
        display dialog "Where is volume “No Name”?"
    end try
    do shell script "rsync -azv --ignore-existing --delete --exclude='.*' '/Volumes/No Name/' '/Users/scott/Documents/Documents/Backup_USB_Drive/Backup_New/'"

  • Problems using Shell scripts and Automator

    My problem is that when I use the "Run Shell Script" Automator action, it won't work if I type the script inside the action but it will work if I just type a path to the script file, which is less elegant as I then need to copy the Automator app made as well as the script file.
    Here is the script I am trying to use
    #!/bin/bash -f
    if test -f ~/Library/Preferences/SPACE.com/Pro/Registration\ File
    then
    open -a /Applications/Starry\ Night\ High\ School/Starry\ Night\ High\ School.app/
    else
    ditto /Library/Management/Preferences/StarryNight/SPACE.com ~/Library/Preferences/SPACE.com
    open -a /Applications/Starry\ Night\ High\ School/Starry\ Night\ High\ School.app/
    fi
    exit 0

    Well I found the problem. Or at least I got it to work. I tried typing simple commands and scripts into the Shell Script action and had no issues with it running. So I then slowly expanded and typed out my script:
    #!/bin/bash -f
    if test -f ~/Library/Preferences/SPACE.com/Pro/Registration\ File
    then
    open -a /Applications/Starry\ Night\ High\ School/Starry\ Night\ High\ School.app/
    else
    ditto /Library/Management/Preferences/StarryNight/SPACE.com ~/Library/Preferences/SPACE.com
    open -a /Applications/Starry\ Night\ High\ School/Starry\ Night\ High\ School.app/
    fi
    exit 0
    Having typed it out in the script it runs fine. It seems you can't paste text into the action. To test this hypothesis, I copied the working script out of automator into BBedit and then back into Automator, the script no longer worked. Not sure why that is happening, but it does work if I type the scripts out.

  • [SORRY] exec command problem for shell scripting

    I know this is not an appropriate place to ask questions about shell programming, but I have tried many other places... and no helpful help yet. So, here I am.
    I am writing a simple shell script that would actually execute a java application. However, I want to give the users the option of running it in background. So,
    COMMAND="java blahblah"
    DAEMON="&"
    exec "$COMMAND $DAEMON"
    But, when I run it, it spits out an error message saying something like "Invalid agrument: &".
    Is there a way to exec'ing "java blahblah &" using variables as arguments to "exec" command???
    OR is it even NOT possible?
    This problem seems so trivial, but took a man out of me. :( Please help.
    thanks
    yosep

    execute a java application. However, I want to give
    the users the option of running it in background. It doesn't generally make sense to exec an ansynchronous process, and one can introduce varying errors in this method. Just simply drop the exec. The java process will async off and the shell script will exit leaving no shell process running. Simple as that.
    BTW, you generally exec a java process if you wish to replace the shell with the java process, but then the async request is given at the caller, she who actually calls the script (genarally from an interactive shell).

  • Problem executing shell script for rwrun

    hi..
    I wrote a shell script to make a report similar to the batch file in windows.
    My OS is Suse 8.0 with oracle installed in it..
    I have the script like this..I used 2 lexical parameters for my rep file.
    /opt/oracle/OraHome1/bin/rwrun.sh test techy/techy@simone batch=yes desname=test_3.pdf destype=file desformat=pdf atable=\'\' whereford=\'protokolle.haendlernummer=\'Ludwigsburg\' and\'
    This one works fine but the one below doesn't give any output. The pdf fiel is just empty. I wonder y,,may be any problems with the spaces or escape characters.I didn't get any error when executed the scripts.
    /opt/oracle/OraHome1/bin/rwrun.sh test techy/techy@simone batch=yes desname=test_3.pdf destype=file desformat=pdf atable=\'\' whereford=\'protokolle.haendlernummer like \'L%\' and\'
    thanx and waiting for soem one to answer..
    regards
    Kovi

    I solved it by doing the following..
    opt/oracle/OraHome1/bin/rwrun.sh test techy/techy@simone batch=yes desname=test_3.pdf destype=file desformat=pdf atable=\\'\\' whereford=\\'\\ protokolle.haendlernummer\\ like\\ \\'L%\\'\\ and\\'
    from the Java Program..
    Important thing I discoverd is there should be a space at the beginning like whereford=' prot...' and it sok now..
    thanx ...but I still has other probelm now..which is to invoke the report from a servlet which executes this shell script..Problem with DISPLAY variable..I cannot run rwrun.sh without DISPLAY variable..
    Is there any way to set this variable for tomcat service.
