Problem with Syntax Coloring (Syntax Colouring) in Xcode with Python

I have a Python script with a bunch of doc strings. Doc strings are multi-line comments delimited by either triple single-quotes (''') or triple double-quotes ("""). When they appear as the first statement in a class, function, method or module, they are automatically set to the _doc_ member of the given class, function, method or module. This in turn allow that text to appear when the user types "help(myobj)" in the interpreter.
My problem stems from the Syntax Coloring in XCode not detecting the end of some multi-line strings. The point at which this begins is random; it does not occur with the first multi-line string. Any syntax after the randomly offending multi-line string is colored as if it were part of the string and so syntax coloring is effectively deactivated for the rest of the file. There does not seem to be a way to get XCode to rescan, re-examine or reload the file and different installs of XCode's syntax coloring die at different places in the source. If there is no way to tell XCode to refresh / rescan a file, is there a way to set the syntax coloring stack depth?? Maybe the problem stems from too shallow a stack depth for the syntax coloring. Anyone have any ideas?

Actually, XCode seems to correctly color the file when all multi-line strings / doc strings are using triple-double-quotes ("""), but NOT with triple-single-quotes ('''). Because ''' is legitimate python for indicating a multi-line string, I think this may be a bug in the syntax coloring algorithm.

Hi Kevin,
Sometimes you need to instruct process chains explicitly. Even though you have it mentione din your InfoPackage, still it needs another process (and variant) to load from the PSA to the data target. In the RSPC screen where all the processes are listed on the left hand side, under Load Processes and Post Processing, you will find Read PSA and Update Data Target as the second process.

Syntax coloring of 'other'..

Hi there,
currently I am on my trial for the new Flash Builder 4.5. What I really dislike is the absence of coloring 'other' things in Actionscript files.
In the Java section it's called 'other' and things like classes, datatypes etc. are affected.
The things highlighted in lat should be affected by 'other':
var test:TestClass = new TestClass();
public function giveClass() : TestClass {..};
Is there any chance to get a solution for this? :-)

ProjectBuilder/XCode has never been able to keep up with my typing speed no matter how much processor I throw at it; something CodeWarrior was able to do (with infinitely better syntax highlighting and code browsing) on a 100MHz Performa. It's just a nightmare project full of NeXT era cruft nobody's taken the time to clean up since it's free.

Syntax coloring in code view not working in CS6

I just got CS6 installed for Windows XP, first time using it, and the HTML syntax is no longer color coded like I was used to in CS5 and earlier.. I assume you would turn this on/off through View > Code View Options > Syntax Coloring, but when I try to select this, nothing happens and the option remains unchecked in the menu.
It seems to be the only thing in the Code View Options menu that I cannot turn on/off, but it's not grayed out or turning up any error messages or anything...
Any idea what's going on?

It's a work PC that just got set up with CS6 for the first time - I wasn't able to find that cache file (the instructions are for CS5 and earlier), but since this started happening straight out of the box, I'm not sure the cache would be the problem?
And no, the "Syntax Coloring" option is not greyed out - it's actually black, so looks like it SHOULD be selectable, but I click it and nothing happens, and it remains unchecked. That's the confusing thing.. no obvious hurdles to toggling that option...

No syntax coloring

Hi,
I have recently decided to try out dreamweaver CS5 and almost immediately upon installation all the syntax coloring in gone. In the menu the option is not grayed out but no matter how manner times I click on it it's not turning on. I have checked in preferences and all the colors are assigned corectly for code coloring a check mark just never appear next to it. This is probably the single most important feature for me since I always work in code view. I am working normal html, php, and css files. Nothing dreamweaver wouldn't recognize I even tried starting a new document so it's not my files that are causing it since I can't even get code coloring turned on with the templates that come with dreamweaver.
Please help me if anyone can.
Other things to note:
In the menu under view>visual aids all the options are grayed out (the syntax coloring option is under style render and it just won't turn on now gray).
The side bar with the line numbers is black (when I first loaded dreamweaver it was a different color I think but I can't remember by the second time loading it code coloring was gone).
I am using windows XP in classic view.
Once again please help if you can I would love to get this software I really need a better code editing program but so far all it's done is drive me crazy.

you know in case anyone else comes here again with the same problem and the same answer.
As it turns out when you customize you windows color scheme it can conflict with code coloring. Why is beyond me but I realized I had gone and changed some parts of my color scheme in between using dreamweaver the first and second time. I reset my color scheme and the syntax coloring came back. I wasn't sure that was it and I really liked that color scheme so I switched back to it to check again and sure enough all the syntax coloring is gone. Why this happens is truly bizarre. I have add in some minor color changes to my current theme and it's ok so far so apparently only one or some of the settings in your theme customization can effect dreamweaver like this. Oh well. Strange bug surely I would think syntax coloring would be seperate from all the windows defaults especially since it's only cosmetic changes.

Syntax Coloring Not Functioning

Hello All,
For some reason my code is not colored as it should be. I'm
using Dreamweaver 8 on a Windows XP.
I have tried to enable it by going to "View > Code View
Options > Syntax Coloring, but a check never appears indicating
that Syntax Coloring has been enabled. The "Syntax Coloring" option
isn't grayed out, so it should allow me to select it, but it just
doesn't.
My preferences for code coloring for all document types are
set to their defaults.
It is not because of un-closed tags or any error in the code,
this problem happens in all the default documents that Dreamweaver
ships with.
I even did a "repair" re-install but still no change.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm trying Flash Builder 4.7 but I see there is missing features in the Softaware.
I didn't found this important features in the preferences and I think you could add this new features in the new version of FB:
Syntax coloring like Flash Professional: Coloring the AS3 keywords properties and methods like (addChild, x, y, width, height, etc.)
Custom format code. In FB 4.7 there no way to custom the format code in AS3 but you can do it for Java.
AutoClose : Inserts matching bracket, paren, brace or quote
A list of color themes
I hope it will help to improve this software.

I've always had the feel/assumption that Flash is more of a priority to Adobe than Flex / FlashBuilder evere was/is. Try using FlashDevelop with Flash to compile.
If by action we can assume answer then the following I would assume:
Adobe: Don't fix old bugs in FlashBuilder even when it was still named Flex, only seen updates to major / critical bugs
Assumed reasoning for this: Low priority product, not enough resource allocated to product development, no development time assigned to enhancing / correcting the old components, eclipse product enhancement is beyond their skill set, or just simply don't care...... pick one and go with it.

Adobe: Added new commands to intelisense and informational popups when they arrived but apart from that not much else has been done.

Syntax Coloring for PHP in HTML Files

I'd like consistent syntax color throughout my documents,
which can be CSS, HTML or PHP. However, when I write PHP code into
anything but a PHP document, it comes out in a single, or
dual-color format making it much less "pretty", and not nearly as
easy to read. HTML has CFM and ASP color options, but not PHP (and
I don't want to have to format the color twice in preferences
anyhow). I've tried grouping .html files in with the PHP/MySQL
color grouping in the DocumentTypes setting (Dreamweaver
8/Configuration/DocumentTypes), which works, but results in a crash
each time I do anything but look at a document.
Anyone experience this behavior, or better yet, have a
solution to make Dreamwever's syntax color consistent within
itself?
BWT, this refers to Dreamweaver 8.0.2, Mac OS X 10.4.7. And
the rest of the Studio is installed as well.

In dreamweaver cs6 12.0, build 5842, there is no syntax coloring on main code view?

In my dreamweaver CS6, why is there no syntax coloring showing on the main code view window on php or any files? It works in window>code inspector, but this does not have all the same functionality. ther is no preferences icon anywhere that I can see to turn this feature on or off? This used to work until just recently. Nothing on google, but the main basics. I tried checking preferences under syntax coloring and all is okay and shows color. I also reinstalled and restarted PC. I am on a macbook with retina display. on mountain lion with latest updates. CS6 is different than cs5 in menus. Please help soon!

Thanks for the help. I didn't think the retina did, I just wanted to help clarify what I was working with. I tried changing the external editor also and that got the split design view working again, but still no code coloring gosh darnit.

Syntax coloring / Keyword adding

Will it be a big pain in the neck to change the syntax coloring?
Could I add my own keywords to some kind of list.

One huge gripe I have is the fact that I can't change the colors in FlexBuilder to match my liking, and SO many terms are colored using the default
that it almost makes syntax coloring a bit worthless.
2:
I'd like to be able to change the list of keywords / reserved words / class names / instristic class to add whichever I feel like.
I like having addEventListener/removeEventListener/addChild/removeChild/getChildAt/getChildByName different color than everything else because I use them so much. I enjoy being able to tell what's what at a glance. Once they're colored I know there's no typographical errors.

Code hinting in FlexBuilder leaves a lot to be desired. In FlashDevelop if I have a property named _viewPortTop, i could hit enter for the new line, then start typing 'top', and the available options will come up pruning the possible choices as they are filtered out.
In flex builder, I HAVE to put 'this'., to even GET the list or press ctrl+space which is cumbersome to do each and every time. If i even make a typo, BAM, whole list is gone.
I don't like seeing 'this' all over the place, since 'this' is assumed in scope.
If there's an error, then it's a scope issue, go fix it.
I don't want to clutter my code just cus the hinting is lackluster.

I just read your bug http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-20285 and your workaround: "Press ctrl+space, EVERYTIME you want code hinting without having to tyoe 'this'"
This is by design, not a bug. I believe what you maybe misinterpreted as a feature is that code hints show up by simply typing. This is not true. We follow the JDT convention for explicit code hinting and implicit code hinting for AS in most cases. See auto activation in the JDT preferences for more information.
We also have implict code hinting for MXML cases. Here are some examples of both AS and MXML:
Implicit code hints:
Start of MXML tag "<"
Start of attribute inside an MXML tag "<s:Button " the space character triggers code hints
Member access "myButton." the period character triggers code hints
Extends keyword "extends " the space character triggers code hints
Vector type declaration "Vector.<" the < character triggers code hints
new expression "var foo:Button = new " the space character triggers hints
Explicit code hints can be triggered with CTRL+Space at the user's discretion.
For the case your are referring to, there is no implicit trigger character. You do have to hit CTRL+space in this case, that's the expected workflow in Eclipse. I think you are suggesting that any AS identifier character always trigger code hints. Are there other IDE's that you've used that do this? I'm curious to see an example.

How does syntax coloring work?

Hello.. I was wondering how to do syntax coloring? I was planning on making a simple editor which has that (not for java at least). I think I've seen some Java classes for that but what if I want to define my own keywords?
Hm.. so does the process involve tokenizing each and every word and compare if it is a keyword or not and everytime there is a change in the text area that process is repeated. Or is that just plain brute force? Can anyone here recommend something more efficient?

around for quite a while. I remembered a general discussion about
how to go about this, but when I went to his web site I couldn't find it.

Code syntax coloring/format toggle?

I am a super newb to Flash Builder, but I own 4.7.
I have a MXML file that I found that I'm redoing to suit my needs. I have the original open next to my version in case I screw something up I have referance.
Wilst switching between them I made a "happy mistake". Somehow I hit CTRL something something, and it reformatted my code with color syntax and some organization.
See the difference? I like the new coloring!
I don't know what I did and i spent 3 hours f'n with preferances and settings all over the place and I cant recreate this! What did I do and how do I do it again?

If your syntax coloring is incorrect in DW, then usually it's because your syntax is incorrect. That's the purpose of syntax coloring. Start where the coloring is incorrect and go backwards until it is correct. The syntax error should be in that area.
With that said, there are a few cases where DW does not recognize the syntax. If the syntax is correct, post a link to your page so that we can see it.

Syntax coloring within java editor

I'm looking for an java editor that can display an XML-File with syntax coloring. At the moment I am using the ostermiller editor (http://ostermiller.org) to display java-source files. But this editor does not support xml-files. There would be a possibility to generate an xml-lexer for the ostermiller-editor using the program JFlex. But where can I get the XML grammar description input file for JFlex?
Do you have a solution?

As the author of that package, let me point you in the right direction. I had started writing an XMLLexer at one point, but I can't find the work that I had done. It is possibly on another computer.
The XML spec is here:

It is written in BNF form, which is great for parsers, but not exactly what you need for a lexer.
The trick in the translation is to ignore the recursive definitions and focus on the peices.
So, you can ignore the:
document ::= prolog element Misc
and focus on things like:
Char ::= #x9 | #xA | #xD | [#x20-#xD7FF] | [#xE000-#xFFFD] | [#x10000-#x10FFFF]
Note that jflex does not represents hex numbers differently, and Java only support unicode, so the really large characters can be ignored.
your JFlex rule would probably look like:
Char=([\x9\xA\xD\x20-\xD7FF\xE000-\xFFFD])

Turn off JSP syntax coloring in 12c

How do I turn off syntax coloring for *.jsp files.
JDeveloper CRASHES and CRASHES and CRASHES or HANGS or SOMETHING ELSE WRONG whenever I try to edit a JSP file.
I just want JDeveloper to handle the file like a POTF (Plain Old Text File) since it cannot correctly handle it as is.
Quite honestly, and I am not trying to disparage anyone, the JSP handling is HORRIBLE. I have to use Notepad++ to edit these files because JDeveloper just HANGS. Actually it cannot even crash. I say "Save all files and exit" in the panic dialog and it neither saves the files or exits.

JDeveloper version is 12.1.2.0.0
WIndows 7 64 bit w/16GB of memory.
MaxPermSize is set to 2048M.
I am happy to increase the amount of memory, but that doesn't appear to be an issue. :-)
I have SQLServer running locally but limited to 2GB of memory. And I am running a local Tomcat server with a 3GB perm memory.
And then I have all of the usual windows stuff running including corporate email (i.e. Outlook).

Hi all, i'm new to Mac book & Xcode. I'm learning and facing problems while creating a new file for Xcode. Before i upgrade the software, i have no issue to create simple steps in apps. After upgrade Xcode to 4.6 version, i'm facing lot's of issue eg.
1) "the identity "iphone developer" doesn't match any valid certificate/ private key pair",
2) can't select the box "with XIB for user interface" if the subclass is "UIViewController"..
