Problem with the standby database?

i am working on 10gr2 on rhel4.
i am creating a standby database on the same servr machine.
i have taken a cold backup of the primary database and edited the parameter files for the primary as well as the standby database.
the only problem is that i am unable to open the standby database in the read only mode. following is the problem:
SQL> alter database open read only;
alter database open read only
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-16004: backup database requires recovery
ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
ORA-01110: data file 1: '/data02/logical_stdby/prdbs02sb/oradata/system01.dbf
thanks

if i issue this command on the primary database, i get
SQL> select status, error from v$archive_Dest where dest_id=2;
STATUS ERROR
ERROR ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
what is the reason, my logs are not propagating to the standby.
also some entries from the primary alert log file is as below:
Thu Oct 4 15:19:26 2007
Errors in file /opt/db/oracle/admin/prdbs02/bdump/prdbs02_arc1_17509.trc:
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
PING[ARC1]: Heartbeat failed to connect to standby 'PRDBS02SB'. Error is 1031.
what is the reason??? please let me know if anything else is required for troublshooting

  • There is a problem with the Outlook database.  Your database could not be rebuilt. [-18000]

    For home use, I recently changed from Windows PC to MacBook Air.  I have an iPhone 4 which I synched without problem to the PC.  Since I have used Outlook for years on Windows and trusted advisors assured me Microsoft Office on the Mac is the same as Microsoft Office on Windows, I decided to continue using Microsoft Office.  Because I cannot get my Outlook calendar to sync reliably to iCal / iPhone and because I have found a small but meaningful number of features I use daily in Outlook Windows do not work on Outlook Mac, I have never been in so much pain!
    The latest problem is Outlook does not complete startup.  I get this error:
    There is a problem with the Outlook database.  To use the database, you must rebuild it using the Database Utility.
    I run the utility but it never completes successfully.
    Step 1 of 5: Scannning...
    Step 2 of 5: Verifying...
    Step 3 of 5: Copying records to new database...
    Step 4 of 5: Recovering data...
    Your database could not be rebuilt. [-18000]
    I have found many articles about this problem but they all seem to assume that you can successfully start Outlook then you rebuild the database to fix data corruption in Outlook.
    What if I Outlook never completes startup?

    Here are the steps that solved the Outlook data corruption problem.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/your-datab ase-could-not-be-rebuilt/5caff467-3ab2-464a-9fe6-00ad913b5f2e
    The question was:  Your database could not be rebuilt
    The key is to create a new Outlook Identity, remove the database file, then copy your data records into the new identity and use the Outlook database utility to rebuild the database.
    It's a wonderful feeling to see Outlook start up successfully after a few days of downtime!

  • There is a problem with the Office database - Office 2011

    Good day!
    I recently installed Office 2011 for Mac and i'm getting the following error message: There is a problem with the Office database. Excel comes up with the error message but i am able to get past the error and open the application, but it freezes when I try on Word. I have to force quit the application to close it completely.
    I've searched online and tried all the suggestions - even those from the discussion board: Problem with Office Mac 2011 database. I've completely removed traces of the software : http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2398768 and reinstalled using the disc,  as well as followed suggestions to rebuild the database. I also installed the latest Office update: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44026 from Excel (As it was the only one I know of that's functioning after the error message) but to no avail.
    Here are the tech specs:
    OS X

    Office 2011 for Mac
    Version 14.4.4 (140807)

  • Space problems with the SAP Database MS SQL 2000

    Hi,
    Actually, I have a size problem with the database, I have MS SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack4 on a Windows 2003 Server environment that is my DataBase Server of my ERP ECC 6.0. On the other hand I have a storage where I have 229 Gb of free space used only for the database files of the SAP data and the SAP log file.
    But when I check the DB space allocation on trx. DB02 I saw this:
    3 Database files and 1 transaction log:
    The 3 database files are: PRDDATA1 (size 15,313 MB used 15016 MB) , PRDDATA2 (size 14106 MB used 13984 MB), PRDDATA3 (size 14472 MB used 14352 MB) and the log file is PRDLOG1 ( size 1000 MB) all of them with no limit option and growth by 10%.
    So I went to the SQL Enterprise Manager and I saw that my Database PRD properties and I got this information:
    My database size is 44892.48 Mb size with only 1330.36 Mb of free space and that is alarming.
    So the question here is how ,if I have a storage where the sap data is storing with 229 Gb of free space, can I make the database files grow up in order to use all the available space of my storage.
    Can you help me please because it is critical being my productive system?

    I resolved this issue myself. Thanks for all your help.

  • Problem with a Standby Database

    Hello,
    if have some problems with a special standby database. why special? because i try it whit another, which was newly build with oracle tools and everything works. I mean the redo log transfer and the log apply and everything.
    At first I try to use the DGM, to guide me through the process, but this manager didn't start to copy anything of the database files. So I make an offline backup from the database as you can see in the oracle data guard doc. later on I used the DGM again to build a data guard configuration. Everything seems to be fine. But then I get ORA-16778: log transport service for some site has an error AND ORA-16766: physical apply service unexpectedly offline.
    I don't know what to do now. I really try to help myself but it always stop at this point.
    By the way ... merry Xmas!!!

    Hi,
    ORA-16766: physical apply service unexpectedly offline.You must check in the alert log why the MRP is going down, the info is in this file.
    In order to get more comments, give us a "snapshot" of your install:
    . Release
    . Configuration
    . Folders structures
    . init file (pfile/spfile) contents
    And paste the MRP error stack from the alert log.

    Yoann.

  • Problems with second standby database

    Hello All,
    I have oracle 10gr1. 1 primary db and 2 physical standby and 1 is in the same network with the primary and the other is on a remote network. The primary and the standby on the same network is working perfectly well. My problem is with the remote standby. Some log are not being archived. See output below
    SEQUENCE# ARC APP
    1755 YES NO
    1761 YES NO
    1772 YES NO
    1774 YES NO
    1782 YES NO
    1789 YES NO
    I get this error RFS[10]: "Possible network disconnect with primary database". I think it has something to do with the network connectivity of my second standby and the master db. What parameters should I tweak to avoid this?
    Another thing is arhived logs from seq 1728 were not being applied. I tried manually recovering the archive log from 1728 but it says there is an error in the log. I tried getting the specified archive log from the master db and tried recovering it manually but still the same. How would I solve tjhis problem? Would rebuilding the second standby do the trick? Help needed badly.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi,
    About seq 1728, if the archive has been lost or alterred, you'll have to rebuild the standby. At least take a backup of the first standby and restore the datafiles at the second standby.
    About network connectivity, are you using DataGuard? If so, did you setup the FAL (Failed Archive Logs) server/client parameters on your standby? You can even set your fal_server as being both the primary and first standby..
    You should investigate the network connectivity problem with your network administrator. Check alert log and trace files plus sqlnet logs to see when/where/why the communication with distant site fails sometimes.
    HTH,
    Yoann.

  • Connection problems with the Olite database

    Hi,
    I have a problem when I want to execute a BPEL Process from the process manager. I get a java.sql.SQLException with the following message "[POL-3207] a corrupted data page was detected".
    The fact is that another person (with his own account) installed the SOA Suite and executed the same code before and it worked. But when I connected to the computer remotely using my account and tried to execute the BPEL Process this error appeared. Since then even the former user has the same error message. Is there a way to solve this problem or do I have to reinstall the SOA Suite? Is there a problem using the SOA Suite with different windows accounts?
    When I also try to see the instances after executing the process, I get the following error:
    The following exception occured while processing this request:
    Cannot find instances.
    An attempt to fetch the instances using the where condition "" from the datastore has failed. The exception reported is: [POL-3207] a corrupted data page was detected
    Please check that the machine hosting the datasource is physically connected to the network. Otherwise, check that the datasource connection parameters (user/password) is currently valid.
    sql statement: SELECT * FROM admin_list_ci WHERE ci_domain_ref = 0 ORDER BY ci_modify_date desc
    Oracle BPEL Console v10.1.3.1.0
    Is there a GUI program to access the Olite DB instead of using the mobility sql in the command prompt?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Amir

    Hi rajesh,
    You restart your Olite database. You can do one thing.
    Goto control panel->Administrative tools->services-> Stop & start Olite multiuser service.
    Then try to run the polsql.cmd command.
    Hope this works fine.
    Cheers,

  • "There is a problem with the Office database" - Microsoft Office 2008 issue

    It was all going so well.
    I upgraded a MacBook to SL over the weekend. Everything was working well until yesterday (Wednesday) when, on opening Word I got the above message. The Database Utility reports 'an error occurred while trying to verify your database'
    Other issues are that Entourage will not open, with a report that "The Entourage Temp folder could not be found".
    I have reinstalled SL and Office and patched Office to 12.2.0. Interestingly the 12.2.1 installer cannot find a version of Office to update.
    I've followed the various threads on font issues, but nothing seems to be working. As a temporary fix, I will be re-installing 10.5 but I'd like to know that Office 2008 is stable before going through the upgrade again.

    I've had a chance to play around with a few things, mostly by following the advice at http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2009/09/hottopics_using_office_for_mac_with_snowleopard.html
    After creating a new user account I noticed that Office worked fine until the next time I logged out/in or rebooted. My MacBook is bound to a 10.5 server so I wondered if something was being reset by the server.
    To try this out, I unbound the MacBook, set up a new account, and tested it by multiple restarts and log out/in. This configuration works fine so I guess it's something to do with being bound to an OD. Just one more thing to try if you're having problems

  • How to sync the standby database with the primary?

    Hi..We have dataguard setup for our production databases(10.2.0.3).
    I need one clarification regarding the standby database sync with primary.We identified one of our databases is not in sync with the primary and for longtime the archives are not getting applied at the secondary.
    We decided to take the incremental (from SCN)backup from primary and use that at the standby to resolve the gap as described in the book "Oracle dataguard concepts and administration".
    But, before doing that,we observed couple of structural changes were not applied at the standby(ex:some tablespaces were not created in secondary where as they were there in primary).
    How to apply these changes at the secondary as the standby is in mount state.(Can I open this database and create those tablespaces ?? or do you suggest any other way.
    Thanks for your reply.

    This points to a setup problem. Something missing, a parameter set wrong etc.
    While your question is asking something different - How to correct, I would consider how to prevent. Unless you have a gap or logs not applied you have a deeper issue.
    If you have a gap or logs not applied then correct it and check to see if the missing object are present.
    The key parameters for Oracle 10 are :
    FAL_SERVER=STANDBY
    FAL_CLIENT=PRIMARY
    STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=AUTO
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT='STANDBY','PRIMARY'
    LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT='STANDBY','PRIMARY'
    log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=/u01/app/oracle/oradata/PRIMARY/archive VALID_FOR=(ALL_LOGFILES,ALL_ROLES) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=PRIMARY'
    log_archive_dest_2='SERVICE=STANDBY LGWR ASYNC VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE_NAME=STANDBY'
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_1=ENABLE
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_2=ENABLE
    LOG_ARCHIVE_MAX_PROCESSES=30
    Check them on both sides for issues.
    If your standby is really trashed consider using RMAN to duplicate it. You might end up saving time. I have Oracle 11 short notes on this but it will work on Oracle 10 too.
    http://www.visi.com/~mseberg/duprman.html
    Otherwise use statements like this to resolve you gap.
    ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/STANDBY/archive/PRIMARY_1_20_716110538.arc';
    ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/STANDBY/archive/PRIMARY_1_21_716110538.arc';See Section 5.8 Managing Archive Gaps of oracle document B14239-05

  • The Critical Problems for Creating Standby Database

    The Critical Problems for Creating Standby Database:(I want to create a physical standby database on the same system of the primary database)
    1. Should I copy all the backup datafiles, standby controlfile and password file to a same directory before the first time to mount the standby database?
    2. Before mounting the standby database, Should I change the datafile's name to a new one in the standby controlfile? How to change them?
    3. When issuing the command to mount the standby database, should I specify the controlfile's name.(using which controlfile to mount)
    These problems are not clearly secified in Oracle documentations.

    Can you point us to the Windows specific documentation you refer to?
    The parameter DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT should take care of the new mapping for your datafiles (and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT for logs), so you should be able to put them where you want and use the parameter to point Oracle to the correct location. You should not need to change the name in the controlfile.
    Place your standby controlfiles where you have the control files defined in your parameter file and Oracle should recofgnise that it is a standby db. You should not need to specify which controlfiles to use (if this is even possible), your CONTROL_FILES init parameter points to them.
    Not sure about the password file....my instances are on separate boxes and the password file has the same name on both primary and standby.

  • Problem with the input file format to be stored in database

    Hi,
    I am facing some problem with the input format. I am using the table name as data.employee. But i could not able to process the message forward. I am getting this error,
    com.ibm.db2.jcc.c.SqlException: java.sql.Connection.close() requested while a transaction is in progress on the connection.The transaction remains active, and the connection cannot be closed.
    Can you please help me prposing a solution for this format.
    Thanks,
    SOorya

    I think you are missing out the COMMIT operation.
    At the DB2 end before closing the connection if you do a 'COMMIT' then this may remove your error.
    i.e. after you close the Resultset>close the statement object> perform 'COMMIT' operation--> then close the connection.

  • Why process 'timestenrepd' on the standby database keep consuming 600% CPU?

    Hi all, I have just created a empty active standby pair where there are 14 regular AWT cache groups.
    After call of ttRepStart on the standby database, it takes 600% CPU(24 cores CPU) all the time.
    There is no data in the cache groups and I found the error logs in the tterrors.log file:

    Please note that this is a newly active standby pair where there is no data or workload while the problem occurs, it makes me very depressed.

    Ok, Chirs, here are my steps to set up the active stnadby pair:
    1.steps on the active database:
    % ttIsql eppdb;
    command> @init_user_grant.sql
    % ttIsql "DSN=eppdb;UID=cacheuser;PWD=timesten;OraclePWD=oracle"
    command> call ttCacheUidPwdSet('cacheuser','oracle');
    command> call ttGridCreate('myGrid');
    command> call ttGridNameSet('myGrid');
    command> call ttCacheStart;
    command> @create_all_cache_groups.sql
    command>
    CREATE ACTIVE STANDBY PAIR eppdb ON "baal", eppdb ON "diablo"
    RETURN TWOSAFE
    STORE eppdb ON "baal" DISABLE RETURN ALL 5 RESUME RETURN 20
    STORE eppdb ON "diablo" DISABLE RETURN ALL 5 RESUME RETURN 20;
    command>call ttRepStart;
    command>call ttRepStateSet('active');
    command>@load_cache_groups.sql
    command>exit
    2.steps on the standby database:
    % ttRepAdmin -duplicate -from eppdb -host "baal" -uid cacheuser -pwd timesten -cacheuid cacheuser -cachepwd oracle -keepCG eppdb
    % ttIsql "DSN=eppdb;UID=cacheuser;PWD=timesten;OraclePWD=oracle"
    Command> CALL ttCacheUidPwdSet('cacheuser','oracle');
    Command> CALL ttCacheStart;
    Command> CALL ttRepStart;
    After the replication agent is started on the standby database, issuing a 'top' command in the bash on the standby database server,
    I can see the process 'timestenrepd' consumes 600%+ CPU all the time except for stopping the replication agent.

  • Since Firefox 32.0 was downloaded on 3/9/14 I am experiencing brief hanging when clicking onto websites or links. Is this a problem with the new version of Fire

    If I click onto any link or webpage I am quite often getting a briefing 'hanging' before Mozilla responds. I also get a message at the top of my screen stating that Firefox is not responding and the loading symbol justs spins in circles until it eventually frees up and opens the page. Prior to Firefox 32.0 being downloaded on 3/9/14 I had no problems with this 'hanging' at all. I can only assume it is a Firefox issue as I do not have the same issues if I use Internet Explorer or any other programs installed on my computer.

    You can check for problems with the history that is stored in the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    CORE 10.2.0.3.0 Production
    TNS for Linux: Version 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    Now i want to increase the number of process in primary database. Primary needs downtime. But in this circumstances, should i bounce the standby?
    Let me put all my questions here.
    1. Should i bounce the standby at this scenario?
    2. Here are the commands and sequence of steps to shutdown and start the database. Please correct me if i am wrong....
    2a) shutdown the standby database first. (run this command in secondary)
    connect / as sysdba
    SQL>ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;
    SQL>shutdown immediate
    2b) shutdown the primary(run this command in primary)
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET PROCESS=999 SOPE=spfile;
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
    2c) startup the primary
    SQL> STARTUP
    2d) Start the secondary database
    connect / as sysdba
    startup nomount
    ALTER DATABASE MOUNT STANDBY DATABASE;
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;
    3) After start the database, how do i ensure, primary is shipping the archivelog to secondary?
    Any help is highly appreciated...

    Not required.

    You can just mount
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;

    Check the alert log on the standby.
    Instead you need not shut down the standby at all.

  • Recover the standby database

    Hi, I have both primary and standby database in ASM and I need to recover the standby database as it's falling behind for too long. The steps I did are:
    1. backup full database on primary
    2. create a standby controlfile and copy to /tmp on the standby
    3. on the standby, RMAN>restore standby controlfile from '/tmp/std.ctl';
    4. RMAN>restore database;
    5. SQL>recover managed standby database disconnect;
    However, the recovery always shuts down and I get the error:
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '+W08_DATA_DG/w08p/datafile/system.295.662256331'
    What's wrong with my steps?
    Your suggestion is greatly appreciated!
