Problem with using a srting with \

hello every body
i read a string from a data base and i copy it to a txt file , the string is :
String nom="d:\dossier\fevrier\avis de virement\liste7";
when it's cpied to the txt file it becomes
String nom=" d : \ d o s s i e r \ f e v r i e r \ a v i s d e v i r e m e n t \ l i s t e 7 ";
and i use this code in java program
String s=cf.lectureid();
String s1=s.substring(0,s.lastIndexOf("\\"));
String s2=s.substring(s.lastIndexOf("\\")+1);
System.out.println(s1);
System.out.println(s2);
to have
s1=d:\dossier\fevrier\avis de virement
s2=liste7
but cause of the space in the string java change all the space in ( )
so i dont know how to delete all the space from the string ????
and there is another pb wich is how to double the \ because
s1=d:\dossier\fevrier\avis de virement
generate an error so it must become
s1=d:\\dossier\\fevrier\\avis de virement
please hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllp

i have tried
s1.replace("\\","\\\\");
but it does'nt work
the error:"FTPclients.java": Error #: 300 : method replace(java.lang.String, java.lang.String) not found in class java.lang.String at line 44, column 10
and i have imported import java.lang.String;
